both 1 gig and 2 gig dual kits have performed identically, although on notch up in voltage was necessary for the 2 gig kit vs. the 1 gig.

i've found i shop in germany that still sell's the crucial 5300 3-3-3-3-12 memory. Those are very hard to find over here, in holland it's next to impossible. It doesn't say if it's the 10th anarversity kit or not. The ddr2 ram list however tell's me its Micron D9GMH (B6-3)(handpicked or not ) or Micron D9DQT (BT-3). Memory prices are going to keep dropping, so it may not be worth getting them ahead of time. The crucial ballistix 5300 3-3-3-12 use micron D9GMH. They aren't the 10th Anniversary sticks, I contacted Crucial about the 10th anniversary and they were a very limited edition only offered through newegg.
but even so, they use the same chips dont they ? i'm thinking of buying a striker extreme, this memory, a celeron d( temp, till i can afford quad ) and some thermalright chipset/cpu coolers. I think i can afford to buy a quad around april. you think i should wait a while ? will the prices of the good chips go down because here in europe the onlything the prices have been doing is going up. I'm looking at the gskill 6400 hz right now, price 320 euro's. get my point ?

they both should use gmh's. One's rated 800 4-4-4 and one's rated 667 3-3-3, both at 2.2v. Probably just internal binning and crucial determined some gmh are better than others. Or if they have a good supply (hell, I wouldn't be surprised since they're micron so they get first dibs really), could very well be same ram, just programmed differently.

theoretically the PDP should overclock better but not guaranteed on the other hand OCZ provide better support as well as over voltage protection up to 2.52V

these are no better than the super talent 2x1GB, i got last year
now, they could be D9s but not the great D9s that others are running @ 2.0v
since im stuck @ 2.4v, these probably are stable on ~2.5v @ 3-3-3-8

Well, I JUST purchased a set of the Buffalo Firestix memory....1GB x 2, the DDR2 800 stuff. Yes, they do indeed have Micron D9GMH chips. Yes, I'm not smiling that the price just dropped $40 from when I purchased it 48 hours ago....it arrived 45 minutes ago.
But, Newegg is giving me $40 off my next purchase to compensate, so it will work out. :)
I'm going to grab a 2gb ddr2 800 right now, hopefully it works fine with ds3!

I've never opened up mine either, but based on the results I was getting, most people would imagine they'd be d9's. Mine were the 6400's which are allegedly d9gmh. I was able to get 800 3-3-3 @ 2.2v, 1000 4-4-4 @ 2.1v. Hope this helps :)

Some people say that the 1000 4-4-4 @ 2.1v is pretty normal for d9's. However, people have said that I did get real lucky to get 3-3-3 @ 800 with only 2.2v.
Ok ziddey seems like you had no problems with DS3 recognizing firestix. So I'm gonna take the chance and buy it.
Hopefully I can do a 2.5x memory multiplier and have the ram go at like 900ish with 4-4-4-12.
Kotoko, good luck with it :). I paid a bit more for them since I built my computer right before the peak of ddr2 prices. But still, it's only around a $60 difference, which when you compare to the outrageous prices they charge in retail like best buy or staples or what have you, it's not too bad :).
The buffalo was a real soldier when I first used it. Really really impressive stuff. It even posted at 800 at 1.8v, although I never tested stability (just figured it wouldn't be). But I guess it wouldn't hurt to have a new bios while you try. My board came with F7, which ended up being my favorite bios.
In my testing, it seemed that 1:1 was actually way quicker, especially on the latency scene than a 4:5 upscale.
Word of advice on the ds3: Get speedfan and look at vcore2. That's actually vdimm. Out of the two ds3's I've owned, neither had actual vdimm at the set values. One set 0.1v higher, and one 0.1v lower.
And in the odd event that it ends up not working for whatever reason, there's a real good and easy pencil mod to raise baseline vdimm you can do. Towards the end of my buffalo's life, I needed 2v to get it to post, so I shaded until vdimm measured via dmm was 2v. Just a lot less of a hassle, especially since one of the two ds3's I had acted really funny when vdimm was set to +0.5v or higher (+0.5v gave 2.2v actual).
Dude, wait util the DFI 965 board comes out. I have an S3 ( same as DS3) and it is great, but if this board is $140 like people say it'd be a much better purchase than a DS3 for the simple fact that gigabyte has sucked big time on BIOS issues. Ah, I didn't know you didn't have the ds3 yet. In that case, definitely do not get it. It was honestly the worst board I've ever owned. I mean, in the one hand, there'd be periods where it'd perform absolutely astonishing, being at 520fsb totally stably. But then the next second, it'd be in the bathroom vomiting in the toilet. I would have waited for the dfi myself, but I needed a new board right now, so I got the p5b vanilla. It's actually a hell of a board, and I feel so much better with it than I ever did with the ds3. edit: Well the DFI 975x is like..160s right now, the 965 will most likely be more than that :\
I didn't care for the DS3 either. My Biostar P965PT works much better. No cold boot problems, no bull:banana::banana::banana::banana: with unplugging my system for 20 minutes if I set the fsb or memory settings too high, and it's cheaper too.Quote:

I emailed gskill and they said they are all d9 but they won't guarantee D9GKX.
I was also curious about the F2-8000PHU2-2GBHZ modules. The DDR2 RAM LIST says that these modules are shipping with both D9GKX and D9GCT so please keep us posted on what your modules are! At the moment I'm trying to sell my Ballistix very cheaply so that I can pick up either the kit above or the F2-8000PHU2-2GBZX, not sure which one to go with? Although I'm taking a hit on my kit I'm excited to test and play with a new kit! I'm really trying to get my hands on a GKX kit, hence why I want the F2-8000PHU2-2GBZX!

big hit as in restocking fee? If you got it from newegg just send them an email saying it doesnt run at spec or something of that nature. They will at least drop half the restocking fee if not the whole thing.

I opened them up....the heat spreaders were not very firmly attached and came off VERY easily. So was easy to look at the chips on the PCB.....no real effort to get them off at all.

Well I've been reading more opinions from other sites, and generally if it works, then its an awesome board.
When you get your board, can you try putting the RAM on your board and see if it boots?

Sorry I forgot to reply you however you got a very nice set of ram usually I do expect such high clocks with low volts from either handpicked GMH or high Bin GKX so you are very lucky to have such kit
