hi.please help me to choose psu..i have review..odin,corsair,enermax and etc. but i can't make a choice. so i need spec :
Above 620w(but below 800w)
better performence to support c'fire
modular type.
thanks :)
Get the PCP&C 750W silencer crossfire edition.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817341011
I have a Tt Toughpower 600w, is that tier 3 or tier 2? :D Just want to know for my next build. As it has been flawless, and want to know what tier to look in for the next build.
I dont see the Coolermaster eXtreme power series. Are these any good at all?
http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16817171016
any new updates to the list? just wondering how new psu's are impacting recommended lists...
The 600W is one of the good ones, 550W is not.
No, not really. They have an inflated wattage(500W and above) models, they are built by Seventeam, they are older models, have poor efficiency and are rated at 25 degrees. The 430 PCAR/PCAP and 460W models are decent cheaper options, good value(at least in Aus).
They are one of the less series's though, the iGreen and Real Power Pro are much better.
EDIT: I don't know why the Silencer is rated above the Corsair HX, they are both high quality Seasonic builds, but the PCP&C is no better afaik, I believe the Corsair actually has the edge..
guys i need some advise...
can a Silverstone 750w handle all these?
Intel Q9450 OCed
CoolIT Eliminator
DFI P35
2x1gb 1200Mhz RAM
2x Raptors + 2x TB HDD SATA
2x optical drives
8800GTX
X-Fi soundcard
fan controllers + lcd drive bay + internal card reader
7x 120mm fans
TIA :)
1) PSU Calculators aren't always accurate, or even close to it.
2) If yo entered your CPU as quad processor, don't, its still single processor.
Helloa,
Was wondering if the Corsair VX450 can handle this:
P35 chipset (budget version)
Intel E6750
2GB PC6400
nVidia 9600GT-512MB Factory Overclocked
320GB harddisk and some other small stuff (2x 120MM fan and CPU fan)
Because i don't see it in the list, but the VX450 is a Seasonic build if i'm right.
Thanks.
How about Silverstone ZM?
http://www.silverstonetek.com/produc...1200m&area=usa
so the Seasonic builds are the ones to look out for? which brands carry them?
There, fixed it for you. This tiered list on XS is just horrible....almost a joke. Corsairs not as good as PCP&C Silencers, even though they're practically the same power supply? Enermax Libertys a Tier One? Give me a break. And no updates for over a year? The list should be just taken down and trashed....makes as much sense as having what is up there.
Can anyone tell me how the Xigmatek PSU rate on these charts? They have some very nice specs and they are modular along with high wattage. The one I was looking at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817815003 has 4 12V rails but they even tell you that all four rails combined has a max output of 62A which aint too bad.
I was deciding on that or the PCP&C Silencer 750QB which Newegg has for 90 dollars off retail but the sale ends tonite at midnite. So which should I get, I really would like to have modular but if the components are crap in the Xigmatek then PCP&C it is! Thanks for any help!
wtf?
http://www.burnoutpc.com/modules/sma...mid=267&page=2
gets a awesome review and its in tier 4?
OP needs to update it..
just look at how it performs.. rock solid through out....
and you put it in tier 4 not recommended
How come the Ultra X3 is not in the Tier 1 brands?
According to jonnyguru reviews it got better scores then some of the PCP&C and the silverstone ones.
VX-450 - Seasonic
VX-550 - Channel Well(CWT)
HX-520 - Seasonic
HX-620 - Seasonic
TX-650 - Seasonic
TX-750 - Channel Well(CWT)
HX-1000 - Channel Well(CWT)
Real Power Pro/M 750W and lower are good PSU's, similar to the iGreen, but updated a bit, the 850W and above are very high quality, built by Enhance.
It's a bird !! It's a plane !! No it's the tiered PSU list AND ITS BACK !!
(Blue tights and obnoxious Super Hero not included)
Enjoy, lmk what needs to be moved. I will take suggestions and additions to models that have come out but JG's got the last word on EVERYTHING.
Keep that in mind.
Perkam
were is the corsair TX with CWT is it with the silverstones in T1 or the thermaltakes in T2 with CWT
@perkman nice new avatar
Just one question, why is Delta rated Tier 4? I work in a computer shop and sell about 20 Delta ServerPower 650W power supplies a month. I have yet to see one fail, even in the hands of some extremely stupid people.
Plus the PSU is not modular, which is one thing i like.
thanks for reposting- i consider this the best listing available.
Here's the answer.......

To put it in perspective.....the Enermax Liberty series is listed in the same tier as Seasonic/Corsair HX/PCP&C Silencer builds (all essentially the same power supply as Seasonic builds all of them and they're all almost identical internally)...... yet the failure rate of the Liberty line is terrible....much worse than anything from the aforementioned Seasonic builds.
While the Liberty line has good specs, there is more to a power supply's recommendation than just good specs....durability and reliability should also factor into that, something Enermax's Liberty line cannot claim to have much of.
As an example....a recent review (4-13-08) of the Enermax Liberty DXX 500W garnered this praise from Hardware Secrets:
Quote:
To be completely honest we were somewhat disappointed with Enermax Liberty DXX 500 W, as we expected more from it.
....its efficiency was somewhat low, being below 80% if you pull more than 300 W from it.
This power supply uses a different design on its secondary, which showed to be not so good. Together with the decision of using a single-transistor forward design on the primary instead of the traditional two-transistor forward, the design used by this power supply proved not to be the best for efficiency.
Also almost all protections failed during our tests, showing that they are either disabled or configured with a value that is too high: this power supply didn’t survive our overload tests.
We know that average users won’t probably overload their units, but it is always nice to know that the power supply will turn off if an overloading situation occurs, instead of just burning.
However, when you think that both Corsair VX450W and Antec EarthWatts 500 W are cheaper and better products – both are internally the same power supply and can provide a far higher efficiency and have their protections working just fine – it makes no sense buying Enermax Liberty DXX 500 W today.
ps.....the Liberty DXX burned up in testing........the same testing environment that a Corsair 620HX went through with not a problem what so ever.
Now, I'm not saying all Liberty DXX's are problematic....the 1kw unit seems great, but to lump all Liberties under the Liberty umbrella and categorize them along with many others of known excellent quality just does this list no good for credibility.
Do you know who makes Zalman PSUs? They seem to be pretty good. For what I’ve read, it’s a Korean manufacturer.
Jonny, did you ever figure out what OEM makes the Silverstone OP650? I got bored the other night so I was reading the review for my power supply on your site, and you said Impervio wasn't it.
awesome list, thanks for bringing it back perkam!
I wrote that review over a year ago and didn't know of Impervio back then.
Impervio is in fact that OEM. They use IS-Quasar's robotic facility to assemble their designs.
I have heard though that if IS-Quasar is behind on production that some of the units will be built by Etasis in a pinch.
So is all of that a good thing that it's assembled by robots? No human error is a good thing, no?
I guess your review shows that Impervio is a good OEM, but is the OP650 the only one made by Impervio?
Any of these PSU's good?
Bgears - Don't know them.

What PSU for SLI 8800Gts g92, q6600, 790i Ultra, 2x Barracuda 500gb??
It has to be modular and 750w or more!
Thanks!
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817256009
will this be enough for my rig in my sig.The 620 just isnt cutting it
So what about the StealthXStream?
guys i have a question...i'm currently using a Silverstone DA750w & i wanted to tidy up the cables. one of the PCIE cables have a dual 6-pin connector on just 1 cable...
http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/1336/dual6pinas8.jpg
1 x 24-pin motherboard connector (550mm)
1 x 8-pin EPS12V connector (550mm)
1 x 4-pin ATX12V connector (550mm)
1 x 8-pin PCI-E connector (550mm)
2 x Dual 6-pin PCI-E connector (550mm)
2 x triple SATA connector (500mm +250mm + 250mm)
2 x triple 4-pin IDE & single floppy power connectors
(500mm + 250mm + 250mm + 150mm)
can i use that one cable (with the dual 6-pin connector) to power up my 8800GTX? or do i have to use 2 cables (using just 1 of the 6-pin connectors)?
How is the quality of Zalman ZM850-HP?
I realize Zalman ZM is placed under Tier 2, but afaik (and stated by JohnGuru a few pages ago) Zalman ZM versions use different manufactures for their <750W (FSP) and 850W< (Enhance) versions.
Yes the 850W model is built by Enhance, it is around the same level as the Real Power Pro 850, Antec Quattro 850W, etc, afaik.
Basically, a very good PSU.
Anyone mind helping me pick a PSU for my future rig ? Needs to hold:
Q6600 G0@3.6ghz or E8400@4ghz
ATI 4870(prolly OC'ed) or 4870x2
2x2GB ram @1066 mhz (2.1V)
Regular P35 mobo (prolly a giga/msi/dfi/abit model)
1xSata 7200 rpm WD 5000 AAKS HDD
1xIDE 7200 rpm WD800 HDD
1xDVD writer
1xFDD
1xCpu cooler Noctua NF-B9-1600 @ ~1600 rpm
4xNexus Real Silent PWM 120 mm @ ~1000 rpm
4xNexus Real Silent PWM 80 mm @ ~800 rpm
1xAccelero S1/S2 gpu cooler
TV-tunner (PCI)
It doesn't really matter if it's modular or not, i'll do my best regarding cable management in either case. I'm pretty much on a budget but i need a stable and reliable PSU. No further upgrades will be made on this PC so i don't need it to hold anything else in the future besides what i mentioned. I've run a "simulator" on a website (can't remember the name now) and it gave me an approx. of 773w @ 100% load (both cpu & system) and 30% capacitor aging (worst scenario i could imagine :P )but it kinda shocked me since i initially thought 650 was enough(corsair 650 TX). The rig will run ~16/24 most of the time, and ~8/24 at full load. Ty in advance for your time and help :)
how about Silverstone Strider 400w & FSP saga 400W?
what tier are they?
So looking at the Tier lists, these would be the best
The Enermax Galaxy 1000W would be the best if I'm not getting this wrong?Quote:
Tier 1 Brands - The Most Powerful And Stable Components On The Market
Enermax Galaxy
PCP&C TurboCool
PCP&C Silencer >610
Zippy/Emacs SSL
Zippy/Emacs GSM
Zippy/Emacs PSL
Silverstone ZF (Etasis 85/75/56)
Seventeam ST >600 (SSI, V2.91)
Silverstone OP/DA >700W
I'm looking for a modular, 900-1000W power supply, 250$-280$(max) budget. That would be the best choice? If there's anything better for than this respecting my budget limit, please say so! ;) ( I know I already have a good one, but giving it to my aunt since her PSU died ^.^; generous much :P )
I'm planning to upgrade some parts like my GPU to a 4870X2, get 2-3 more HDD's, water-cooling system by next year and some other stuff...well see!
EDIT: nvm, went with Silverstone Decathlon 850W ;)
Im not sure this thread is even active any more and take the list with a grain of salt. I own PC Power and cooling as well as Galaxy PSU'S and curently use CoolerMaster Power Pro 1000W and it is excellent yet it is listed as stay away from. The OEM that makes the Coolermaster also makes the Silverstone.
I have not seen a bad review on it at all, even jonnyGURU gave it a nice review. It also has the single 6pin and 8 pin cable for the nvidia 280GTX so no need for adaptor or 6-2 pin as seen on most PSU's.
Do not take this thread as final word on PSU.
I think this is possibly the worst one I've ever seen... STAY AWAY!
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817339001
Em I hesitate to ask this lol but uh, I only see the "Old List", is the new list here? If the answer is obvious, I'm going with this thread is 15 pages long, I'm not going to read the whole thing. Also, where is the Tier E list?
Ive been watching also I am sure its taking some time and they will get to it.
While I am here I thought I would ask opinions on the
PC Power and Cooling SILENCER 750W QUAD S75CF Power Supply Anyone want to throw some advice opinion out Im all ears.
Here is pretty much the system its going in. It should be over kill but I want room to grow/upgrade.
Processor: AMD 5000x2 Black Edition overclocked to 3.2 for now
Memory: OCZ 1066MHz DDR2 PC2-8500 Reaper HPC 2GB (2x1GB)
Video Card: ATI HD 4850
Hard Drive #1: WD 200gig
Hard Drive #2: WD 200 gig pair are set to raid 0
Optical Drive: burnt up right now lol
Power Supply: Ultra X-connect 550
Sound Card: Creative SB Audigy2 ZS
Monitor: Samsung Syncmaster 204 bw 21" give or take it's a widescreen
It is an great PSU, and its also alot more than you need for your setup. Even fully overclocked an 500-600W quality unit will run it very easily.
An thread like this is very hard to create and maintain. This one should be just deleted, it has alot of outdated info and subjectivity. We should leave this to experts and do our research at sites like jonnyguru, hardocp etc...
IMO, we should just have an sticky with links to proper review sites :yepp:
Coolermaster Tier 5? I've had the 620W one for 18 months now and it's happily powered various rigs for the past 2 years without problems.
how about XIGMATEK PSU as far I know this made by CWT....:):)
Nice list I like it alot I had a neo HE it was a nice PSU for awhile till it blew out :)
So.... has this list been updated with new models and new brands? I saw one advertised in Maximum PC I wanted to ask about. Let me find it.... The Commander Series by In Win. I've never heard of this company.... probably just a gimmick made out of cheap chinese parts. :(
http://www.overclockersclub.com/vima...ex2008/222.jpg
http://blog.steadymart.com/wp-conten...06/inwin03.jpg
The In Win commander 850W didn't do to good in testing (Load tester was used) while the In WIn Commander 1200W did much better (load testing used)

This forum is dead! Why?
EOC & Hard still have very active PSU forums &
OKW is posting good stuff over at jonnyGuru, why are we dead here?
Does anyone want to revive the forum?
I will help.
Dave
*sigh*
I'll see if I can make a smaller guide this time with recommended PSUs in different price ranges (like top 5 PSUs @ $100, top 5 PSUs @ $200) etc etc.
If i've learned one this from this thread its that making a guide based on wattage is completely useless when you have Rosewill 620s and Corsair 620s to confuse new members.
Perkam
Believe me, I feel you!
I am fully updating the PSU Guide & all Sub-Guides at EOC &
then I have been requested to post them at over 12+ forums & probably 100+ sites.
Please fell free yo use any of my work as we are both trying to achieve the same goals
Oh & please upgrade Xcilo a few tiers, I have personally tested several of their units &
if in sale of represent a "Best Buy".
PSU: Power Supply Guide for Today's & Tomorrow's Computers
Best Wishes,
Dave:up:
I'm aware of the guide m8. It's a very nice and thorough one, albiet a bit messy.
The only requirement I would see in a guide atm is:
1. What should people buy at certain price ranges.
2. What can that PSU handle in terms of power (OCed Quad, CFX and SLI, etc)
Beyond that, the only PSUs that need to be put on are ones with no issues with load and efficiency based on reviews from Jonny and others.

how about silverstone op 700w which tier is that?
The Silverstone OP700 is basically a non-modular version of the DA-700W & is ideal for demanding environments due to its full 700W's being available at 50C.
I "guess" it would be a tier 2. Highly Recommended.
SILVERSTONE OP700 700W (Rated@50C)
+3.3V@24A,+5V@30A,+12V@58A,-12V@0.5A,+5VSB@4.0A
Specs: http://www.silverstonetek.com/produc...op700&area=usa
$120: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817256033
I would rate it tier 3.
Even tho it does 700W @ 50c, most quality units are also rated to run at 50c....
Tier one its the likes of signature series, enermax new line, etc..
Tier 2 imo is corsair, seasonic, cwt designs, among others with exceptional review results.
Older models like this silverstone are solid but a bit outdated and not very good value...Tier 3 imo :)
Whaaat newer Silverstone units not that great ? :eek2:
Any information or links to confirm what models.
seasonic are very similar to the new enermax line and they are better then silverstones
the new m12d line is very good and is smaller then the enermax new line of psu's + it has the same efficiency rating!
silverstones are a bit crammed in the inside and there is no power switch which means that it was hard to get everything in to the psu chassis
the good thing about antec signatures is the continuous peak power if i am correct
the tier chart is quite correct but i would put seasonic m12D in the tier 1 because of its similarity to enermax's new line
wooo... bro need some expert view here i just got myself a new silverstone element series 750watt .... what tier is it in may i ask u....
If your Element 750W is anything like the FSP made Element 700W unit just tested at JonnyGuru's website, I certainly wouldn't put it in Tier 2, or 3.....horrible ripple on the +12V rail when loaded......
Link to review...done Apr. 26, 2009.
Hey guys,
How good is the Topower Powerbird 900w & Seventeam ST850ZAF stack up against Antec and other brands?
Thanks.. Ended up purchasing an Antec TP-750
Hope its enough for me
what about HEC COMPUCASE?

Which PSU whould I get for a core i7 build?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371009
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817339026
You'll never need more than this for an i7 build: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371025
But if you want a Tier 1 PSU, get this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371018

Iv had my coolermaster 850w real power pro since last feburary now,
and i love it, hasnt let me down yet, no annoying noises or problems with it atall, why are they so low down on the list ?
How would you guys rank the new Corsair HX 750 and 850 ?
The best at their wattage levels along with the Antec Signature series although the Corsair is ATX while the Antec are CPX which does not fit all cases.
And the HX400 is that also Tier 2 or so?
They even give it 7years warranty :D
----
Btw Perkam, about your post above about Silverstone.
This is only about the new models or?
I have a Silverstone DA650 (v2.1) from august 2007 i believe, hows that?
HX 620 and 400 would be Tier 2.
Basically, Tier 1 is meant for the PSUs with the best design and efficiency that can power the average overclocked Xfire/SLI system today (HD 4890 Xfire or GTX 285 SLI for example).
Perkam
