I ordered some of this stuff Friday should be here Monday Afternoon. I noticed you removed your IHS. I'm not brave enough to do that yet, but do you think it will help my temps with the IHS on? Also you have water cooling I see, did you apply once to your waterblock & cpu and never remove again or have you done this a couple of times. Ambients suxed that afternoon by the time I completed 12hours prime, but still not a bad oc stable @ such a high temp of 58'c:rolleyes:

i really don't think it matters whether the ihs is on or off. the gains are minimal when talking about already OCing 1000MHz+, you get the same variance if your ambient is +- 5degree (little bit of an exaggeration but you get my point)
Okay, that was my exact curiosity, as I feel my temps are holding me back to be on water. I get a pretty decent clock @ low volts but temps are high. Was wondering if the other guys on water lids were popped.

another reason i kept the info about whether the lid was popped or not is cause i dont' want people to think in the end its worth the extra 50mhz. someone who is experienced may see the gains worth it, and know the risks. but i can't say that about everyone, and i would hate for some newer OCers to bust their chips trying to get the IHS off cuz they think that extra 50mhz will actually mean something.
Anyone gotten any good 170's from NewEgg as of late? I'm waiting for a check to clear, so, I'm hoping that I can get something good!

Airflow: 1 casefan (like no airflow :rolleyes: )

i think you would be better off getting a 165 from monarch. most have been getting good steppings. newegg is known for having 0551UPMW's. GREAT OCers.....not!Quote:
