I think its the same principle as a heat pipe, moisture/liquid in a vacuum boils/turns to water vapor at a low temperature which then condenses on the cooler surface thereby transferring heat to a larger area faster than conduction. The only difference I see with what is being termed vapor chamber is rather than reduce cooling fin area and impeding airflow with heat pipes they've created a base chamber which allows for better airflow and more cooling fin surface area.

Yes and no.

The main benefit of a vapor chamber is surface area. With a typical heatpipe setup, the pipes themselves only make minimal contact with the cooling fins. Thus, the effective transfer of heat from pipe to fin can become a bottleneck in the cooling process.

With a vapor chamber ALL of the cooling fins make equal contact with the top surface of the condensation chamber. This means even distribution of heat over a larger area which in turn leads to higher cooling efficiency. Think of the chamber as a giant, flattened heatpipe.

That failed because it had a tiny surface area / volume ratio.

I'm actually ... looking forward to this card. Any card with good acoustics is buyable to me.

Just a blurry person looking down at the card in the reflection... it wasn't detailed enough to really pick out much of anything, but it looked like a real photo to me. Young guy in his early 20's, white, no glasses, dark hair... that's about all I remember seeing. The rest of the label was just black.

lol you obviously are not from America, Craigslists was an ad website which recently took down its adult services section... that description of the image on the GPU cover would go quite well if accompanied by a price per hour.. ;)

on a serious note, I am quite eager to see this card in action, who knows i might even switch camps once more

Hehe, I can't say I'd really ever seen that section of the site :p: to know that's what you meant :). I'm quite looking forward to seeing the info on the card though, probably going to grab two if they're affordable enough.

I got ideas for AMD that would change their whole company big time.

Viral and facebook has become the new targets due to how communites often inform lesser informed people what they buy.
580gtx is a great card even if I never buy another Nvidia card, still its a great one.

Im excited to see how these things clock on air, let alone water. If it werent for the fact I had my 5870 since launch, I'd have picked up a 480 due to its potential on water and the 580 appears to me more of the same in the right direction.

If the 6900s are truely delayed, I don't know what to make of the situation. Since I'm running a moderate resolution I have a feeling at lower resolutions the 580 will best the 6970 as with the 5870/480. That said much remains to be seen with Cayman... I'd rather not kick myself later on.

first Canadian listing I've found and it's kind of pricey. I'd say the MSRP has to be at least 499.99, or this place is really gouging, considering we're at about par right now with the green back.

GTS250 is a card you'd NEVER trade for an 8800GT, PERIOD

Yet, you think, and say, along with every other nvidia basher and hater, what you said: :

The plain facts ARE - G80, G92, G92b, G96(505M transistors) 9600gt, G84 - ETC - were a very versatile set of cores, manufactured on a very large and wide variety of PCB's at an incredible amount of rop, memory, core speed, heatsink requirements, nm processes, massive core transistor counts and differences - for instance, FAR OUTWEIGHING the tiny 3M 4870-4890 core transistor count difference of ATI - a REBRAND for SURE if we use your standard and actually tell the truth !

You would NEVER exchange a 9800GT for a GTS250, the performance difference is far too great.

48 shaders, 64 shaders, 96 shaders, 112 shaders, 128 shaders....

How about we cut the years long crap, and tell the truth ? :up:

If 6900s gets delayed, then the price of 580 will raise too, due to shortage and such BS (just like 5970, that you could never buy at release price).

It's a tricky choice, because if 6900s can make it out in time and beat/match 580, then nVidia will probably fight back aggressively. With both a price-drop on 580, and maybe release a new GPU too (maybe a double-GPU one, or something).

So it's a tricky choice, lets hope AMD can deliver a competitive GPU in time, otherwise we are going to pay a higher price for 580 later.
