I'm thinking about going to the store one last time and swapping chips... anyone know a good batch for the Q9450?
I've heard they have one old ass chip and the rest are a new shipment... Likely all L81X.
I think the C0s have lower VIDs, but it's hard to tell because both are labeled "SLAWR". >_<

That was just a taste. 3.2GHz stable enough at 1.06v. Prime95 8hours stable at 1.09v, and OCCT stable at 1.12v.
Currently... boot voltages are:
0.98v 2.66GHz
1.04v 3.2GHz
1.16v 3.6GHz
1.23v 3.8GHz
1.30v 3.98GHz
Stable voltages to come after a few tweaks, but... all this from a L9 chip seems really promising. :)
And it seems like I need to flash the board BIOS and stuffs for higher clocks, too, but this is getting fun. If 4.00GHz ends up being stable at 1.4v, I'm keeping 'er there.
Run in realtemp and read the VID. It doesn't change with mobos.
VID range: 1.10 - 1.225v. I define VID as the voltage at which the processor can run fine at stock, not the voltage that some program reads off a chip. Evidently, this one would vary depending on the motherboard. Plus what'll you say to a Q9450 that can run 2.66GHz at 1.02v? Or 3.2GHz at 1.09v?
I really, really hate you RunawayPrisoner. I'm sorry, no hard feelings, but you having a Q9450 that good just isn't fair.
Well... hehe... the reason why I don't include priming screenshots is because... temps are unbelievable. You'd think 1.09v wouldn't be much, but it's really asking for trouble because the HD 4870 is always idling at 60C... and these are my load temps after 10 minutes in Prime95 small FFT at 3.2GHz 1.09v: 74/72/71/73. Weird enough (or fair enough), it is indeed 1.09v according to anything that reads voltage. And reseating the heatsink won't help... because that HD 4870 is still emitting heat at 60C into the case.
It is what the processor needs to run at stock. If you're setting anything lower, it isn't 100% stable. And don't say blah blah hours of Prime 95 means stable... It's only a guideline, not definite answer.Quote:

How well do the Q9450's OC on X48 chipsets? And how is power consumption overclocked? I love my Q6600 but it sucks up alot of power.

My chip's such a bad clocker, it's crazy. I need 1.3 ish vcore just to be stable at 3.2...

Try 24 hours, it should be stable small ffts. I had one core crap out on me at 18 hrs. If it is good for 24 hours, then you definitely have a good chip.
Just reseated the heatsink. Batch is L816 (thanks, Loser777). Last time Prime95 locked up at 14 hours due to memory problems. Now heatsink reseated... and... proceeding to stress-testing for a 24-hour run.
For some reason when I run mine @3.2 the CPU is not that hot as yours does but my SB and NB is taking a lot more voltage than I thought (I set them AUTO) and they are very hot. So end up I didn't over clock it anymore. so what is your voltage for SB and NB?Quote:

Yeah, I think ~50*C is normal for chipset temps.
Like I said, the HD4870 inside is coughing up at least 60C air, so that area (CPU, NB) is always at least 45-50C. I don't even idle lower than 52C. Poor case airflow, I guess. I think I need a beefier exhaust fan.Quote:

here is what I got today I used 415fsb but I can only set to 1.28V and it will suddenly make my voltage to 0 and I have no idea what happen.
So I have a chance to sell my Q6600 and get a USED Q9450 in its stead plus 30$. I am wondering whether it is worth it. My Q6600 will do 3.6ghz rock stable.
My P5k-E Wifi will do 470mhz on the Q6600, do you guys think it'll be able to pull it off on the Q9450? I'm thinking that it may be used because it's a bad overclocker.
I'd like the extra 200mhz and 30$, though:D.
Right now I'm running my Q6600 at 450 x 8.
My guess is your gonna be comparing a q6600 that does 3.6 to a q9450 that does maybe 3.2ish. It's your call. If I had to do it again, I think I would have bought a q6600.
