Yep cheers:lol: Had trouble waking up this am, saw the bios & a mobo revision , only realised when i woke up that they were for the model T:shrug:Quote:
Both the above posts relate to the GA-X38T-DQ6 models. Took a while for me to realise
Cheers:)
The new heatsink on the X38T/X38 has 30 fins on revision 1.1 PCB, as opposed to 22 fins on revision 1.0 PCB.

Does anyone know when a new bios (not beta) will be released by Gigabyte?
The latest not-beta bios is F4 from 19/09 already
f5h isnt beta either
Can someone please tell me what is the best CPU cooler to get without having to mod the board heatpipes to make room?
Will a Scythe Ninja work?
Main concern is I DO NOT want to mod the board.
Headshot...the Scythe Ninja Rev. B works great!...no need to mod or remove the crazycool backplate. It fits perfect, add a Scythe 1,600 RPM fan and you're cooking!

Evening,
Well I finally managed to get my 4x1GB Crucial Ballistix PC8500 running on the GA-X38-DQ6 (Bios F7F) motherboard after a lot of swearing!
I'll post my BIOS settings later but basically I had to sacrifice the speed of the memory to get it to run correctly. I'm hoping with further tweaking and newer BIOS revisions then I can get the full speed out of them.
I did email Gigabyte about the problem but they weren't to helpful. I thought I may email Crucial about the problem as they may have contacts within Gigabyte and after all they are selling the memory on their website as being supported on the GA-X38-DQ8.
With regard to the new ROM code for the Realtek chips it should be possible to do this yourself using cbrom. Although I haven't tried this .... *yet* :D

hey richard, do you have a Scythe Ninja Rev. B on yours then?
does it hang over the first yellow ram slot? im trying to upgrade from the stock intel cooler but i have the tall dominator ram with fans above them.
never heard of the scythe before you mentioned it , looks very cool.
i shall go search see how it compares to the thermalright in performance.
peaxce:)
Anyone have a solution to why the P35-DQ6 resets bios after restart almost every time? Im getting really tired of it now!
Well after a reboot I lost all my BIOS settings and back to square one :(
Running 2x1GB Ballistix 8500 at the moment. I really hope Gigabyte sort this BIOS out, the constant losing of BIOS settings and instability of running 4GB of ram even at stock speeds is a joke.
If anyone has any working BIOS settings for running 4x1GB of Ballisix PC8500 could you please post them. I'll try again on the weekend to get it working properly with 4GB and write the settings down this time!
Laterz.
Gaz are you saving the settings in your profile? hit the f11 key and i think you can save up to 9 bios variations?
with my bios (latest on gigabyte site) if i overclock to much it resets most stuff to auto ...which is what it needs to do so it can boot.
sorry if i state the obvious.
Hi Freqy,
I had saved one set of settings in the profile but I had to clear the CMOS due to it getting it's knickers in a twist and getting in the recovering BIOS loop... I always have to clear the CMOS when it does this and that fixes that issue.
I had assumed the profiles got lost with the clear CMOS but to be honest I didn't look.
I'm going to reboot now and change a few settings to see if I can get my 4GB running again so I'll have a quick squizz.

Oh man, this board is so frustrating.
I think I'm going to send it back tomorrow, trying to get 4GB to work even at speeds below the stock is so difficulty. The only thing I'm worried about is that Gigabyte release a BIOS to fix these issues, because the features are really good.
Can anyone recommend an X38 board that works with 4xGB Ballistix PC8500 memory and that has esata?
Cheers,
Gazz.
hi,
you should post your settings so the guys on here can advise.
even if its just the intelligent tweak settings,
it may be just one thing you forgot to change. or somthing simple like upping the north bridge volts?
im running 2 modules in the yellow slots. i found that changing the latencies was far more disastrous than volt or frequency changes.
i had to clear cmos about twice during my setup, as you say i'm not sure either if you lose the profile settings clearing this with the jumper? ..might be that way unfortunately. ?
good luck.
Yeah you do lose the settings :(
I'm so torn between sending the board back and waiting for updates to the BIOS or some smart arse to figure out a proper fix for this ;)
I think I would change it in an instant if I thought there was another X38 motherboard that would work ok but to be honest looking at the forums and reviews etc... it looks like there are problems with a lot of them.
I'll leave it till Sunday and fiddle about a bit more and post some settings.
I guess I picked the wrong time to upgrade :(
Gazz
definitely post settings its hard for people to help if they cant see your bios.
(its easy just copy paste a template found on this thread and type in your parameters.
hey i had major probs too..with just 2 sticks at stock 266 x9 (2.4ghz) 1066mhz ram....arrrgg!!! but a fair tweak on the north bridge enabled this to work...im on stock cooling at present so can not comment on extream stuff...but stock values should not be a problem ..should they? .right?
anyway.. i cannot overclock my ram past 1066mhz....there is a bios update coming to solve this i heard.
please post settings.
freqz:)
