I thought my 9550 was good but damn these chips are awesome! Loaded vcore is 1.200, bios setting 1.20625 for 4ghz. :) Now its time to see what it can really do.

I was already running a Q6700, so I had the board dialed in even before I got the Q9650. I always test at different FSB speed intervals I feel are important (just drop the multi to 6x and test the FSB to its limits).
But yeah, there is a difference between a dual core and a quad, mainly voltages. The NB voltage (MCH for Gigabyte) is higher for a quad then a dual core. For example, on my previous ASUS P5E, I could run a 515 FSB with 1.43v NB. But with a quad, I could only run a 423 FSB with 1.45v NB.
With the UD3P, I've seen 500+ FSB with quads, but it takes 1.5v MCH. The default is 1.10v for 400 FSB, so you can see just how much that is. Yet the board can push 671 FSB with a dual core.
EOD thanks. HOSS331,great job, very low volts for 4ghz
Nice clockin' Hoss331, I can't wait to test mine out.
oh ya your going to like it :yepp:
thanks
whoopi! its here.batch #L826A965.looks like i got your twin here EOD.
I've just started testing mine. 1.1875 VID. started with 3.6 (only needs 1.20 vcore for stability with orthos). It may even go lower, I'm testing it in stages.
Well I had to make some changes to get it prime stable past 6 hours. To be stable at 4.25GHz I had to up the vcore to 1.368 which show an actual reading of 1.353. With this the idle temps were 38C and the prime load temps were 63C.
So far so good, 4.1 with 1.2312 bios. Im going to try for some 4.4 clocks next week, just breaking it in for now. :)

man, now these are so cheap I really want a new one. when seeing people like the guy above hit 4.1 ghz with less than my VID alone.. that sucks. lol I needed 1.25 to load at 3.0 Ghz.. sadness.
Still a great chip, but I want another.
So would my chip possibly reach higher overclocks with the same volts I'm using with other motherboards, some need lower volts than others to reach the same clocks right? or no, is that all how the CPU needs it.
Yea, these chips are finally cheap enough to warrant an upgrade from an Q6600. I wonder how many people are hitting over 4.0 with a Maximus?
You have a great chip Robilar! I started with my goal of 4.2Ghz and got that stable. Then today I decided to see what 4.0GHz would take. It took just +0.006v over vid:

I have a Q6600 running at 3200 on a Abit P35. Would it be possible to get to to 4K with the Q9650 with a mild voltage bump with the P35 board? I know this looks like it would be possible with the P45 but if upgrade boards probably going to wait for a P55 and a i7 chip.
Looks like some great results so far....
yes, im running @4.0 right now on a MSI p35 NEO2 FR. This is a rev.1 board with bad VoltageReg (mucho vdroop). I think this is a 4 phase board.
P35 is still a respectable o/c board. Sure its no P45; but still...
I am really loving this chip
Btw.. on this motherboard with the crappy vReg. I had to run 1.6vCPU (bios) just to get my 6600 (1.325 vid) to run @3.6Ghz
With my 9650 it takes 1.28Vcpu to run @4.0 Ghz
my settings for the Nb were the same with the 6600 vs 9650 on this board. Only difference is the Vcore
Vtt 1.3 nb 1.45 sbio 1.8 sbcore 1.05
maybe i can lower them, but I haven't tried yet
9650 installed. quick run at stock to check and see if cpu is ok and to see how warm it runs.vid is 1.25.http://i43.tinypic.com/2wch9x0.jpg heres the first OC. still priming so far so good.pretty happy with temps so far.i will keep you guy posted. http://i41.tinypic.com/15nku13.jpg
Well 3825 MHz seems to be my cieling with this Zalman 9700 cooler :(
I have repeatedly with dozens of tweaks attempted 4GHz and just cant get windows to fully boot, I've come close getting past the password screen but it freezes shortly after loging in..
I have a vid of 1.16
Currently have stable occt 1 hr @ 1.175 425x9 = 3825MHz
I had to put a fan on my NB as it was pushing 50'c + now idling @43'c
I mainly played with the voltage and FSB i tried increasing my NB v but no effect there?
One thing that is bothering me is the load time to boot, my previous 6600 on gigabyte gax38DQ6 seemed much faster I count the times the bar rolls across the screen before the password prompt and it used to be 4-5 rolls across now It takes 10?? My benches are rocking @ just under 23,000 on 3dm'06 up from 18000 w/ the 6600 @ 3.4ghz I just cant seem to hit that 4ghz marker :( Any suggestions would be very welcome, heres my voltages
Asus Formula Maximus
Vcore 1.16v
cpu pll 1.632
NB v 1.632
Dram 2.32
FSB term 1.344
SB v 1.072
ddr2 controller ref v 1.152
SB 1.5v Voltage 1.552
Any help greatly appreciated
:shakes:
Vcore 1.16v to low set 1.25-1275v more maybe needed for 4ghz
cpu pll 1.632 set to 1.50- 1.54 in bios
NB v 1.632 to high try below 1.50
Dram 2.32 to high try lower <2.20
FSB term 1.344 ok for 4ghz
What to do about the abnormally high core temp? One core is 10c higher than the rest. Just ignore it?
Rest of the cores look great. I really dont think that one core is really 10c higher.
Thanks for these #'s but.... Still no go wouldn't even post 9 out of 10 times
Changed vcore incrementally from 1.25 up to 1.35
pll from 1.47 upto 1.54
NB from 1.48- 1.54v
Dram -2.18v
???
Any other ideas?
1.175v boots right up to 3.8 ghz ?
I know with a vid this Low stock it has to be able to hit 4 ghz.. I havent tried voltages over 1.4v so that might be the ticket just don't wanna fry the chip :) It might go though ?
:shakes:
Edit**
1 other item noticed, I was reading somewhere that it might be vista and that reinstalling a fresh copy might solve the problem?? Any possibility of this being true?
what is your vFSB/vtt at viccan?
well to actually run vista its @ 1.39v
ive tried uppin it to as high as 1.46v
Funny thing is even when i up my vcore to 1.206 which gets me to 3870mhz
My vcore in cpu-z as well as 3 other prgs. report it as 1.17 still?? should I kill the loadline cal and see if that helps??? I am completely stumped
Funnier is vista doesnt show the oc in the sys properties my q6600 always showed the stock then oc'd value??
vic:shrug:
so far so good. its a little scary as to the volts required to get 500fsb.but im on my way.http://i43.tinypic.com/2n7hb3q.jpg
