I just noticed your 4.2Ghz . Very nice !!!

Yep. After a couple of years of reading about others that got great chips that gave high oc's with relatively low voltage, I finally got my hands on one. So far I am 5 hours prime stable with the settings I posted except for the Northbridge voltage. I boosted it up to 1.23266.
I ran into some serious problem and need some help. When I drain my loop few drops of water fell on the board, luckily the system was powered off. I strip everything off the mobo and then hair dry it and make sure it's completely dry. After I hook everything back up few hours later, my system boots no problem, though the CMOS reset itself so I reload the profile I set earlier. After afk for a bit, the computer goes into sleep mode through win 7, and refuse to wake up. I tried force reboot. Now it won't even post. The computer shuts down few seconds after start it up, then it reset itself. ON the LCD screen it goes from welcome to LOCKED to shutdown, then time resets.
Any idea what's going on?
Well, I have the same problem. Every time when my computer goes to sleep (i'm also using Windows 7 and RIIE) I can't wake him up again. I need to power him off and then again on. Luckily, he boots every time normaly after that... Dunno what's your problem but I think that it's not because of water on your board.
My ex-Bloodrage was completely wet because I benched outside at 5h in the morning with fog but she worked perfectly after that :D
I"ve got the same issue with my system when changed the CPU for one some cooler. If my rig was with monitor OFF and i awake it, the monitor ON and the comp freez just immediately. I'm using power save management and in idle my new CPU has very low idle Voltage (about 0.95V) maybe it's driving my comp to freez. Or maybe there is not enough Voltage for memory controller(QPI?) I added Voltage for both are- for cores from +0.25V to +0.5V(1.288V for 4.2gHz) and QPI from 1.375V(actually less) to 1.4V and the problem was solved. I still testing the new CPU and i'm sure- boosting one of them will be enough, but i don't know which yet.
I used distilled water, and got spilled at northbridge and a bit between the PCI-e ports. If I press power button (on board or off), it goes on for 1 second and then automatically shuts down. If I hold the power button, I can get the debug screen to show DET DRAM before it shuts down. I tried different video card, different stick of ram. No luck. The only changes I made besides the idiotic water spill, is to put my video card under water and mobo out of water.
Any idea? Possibly overheat?
PS I also tried removing the battery and reset CMOS with the baCK BUTTon, no luck as well.
Did you have your psu unplugged from pc when you cleared cmos ?
Oh, I have not try that yet. What's the proper way to clear CMOS without pressing the easy button? Popping the battery out with PSU unplugged?
Thanks I got it fixed! It works after I reset the CMOS. From what I know, I am guessing this is one of the problem I had with the board. For some reason, if I unplug the machine for a while, the system automatically set my overclock at some unreachable area (i.e. 5.0+ ghz). I guess this explains why it shuts down automatically.
What BIOS version are you using?
Seems you are having cold boot issues, perhaps try flashing the BIOS to one of the latest versions, 1504 works well for me.
Hi ... I just recieved my rampage2 ex... and I dont have an idea about how to gain sth about 4,5 ghz with my i7 960 ... can anyone post somehting like a bios template just to let me know how to start with oc? ;)
Do u think 4,5 with an i7 960 is possible? (I know ... "Why didnt you buy xeon?"... I wanted the 24x multi ... and 960 is@d0 as well ... so here we go)
thx mates
toyz
You want 4.5GHz for 24/7? That's impossible I think... I mean, maybe it's possible but with some crazy cooling.
really? h mmm ... was just thinking / dreaming ;) what do you think is realistic with i7 960(multi max. 24x)?
Multi is not the problem, problem is temperature.
First try to get 4.2GHz with temperature under 75° and then you can try higher. ;)
It's not impossible, check my sig...
do you recommend the 17er bios for oc?
With some normal air cooling or low end water cooling it's impossible.
You need to have some high end water cooling. Some guys even have 2 radiators ;)
But toyzruz didn't say which cooling does he have so we can only gues how much can he get out of his 960 :)
A 960 could do it, but depends on the chips behaviour and cooling. 4.5GHz 24/7 is entirely possible using even a 920, it's only 214 BCLK with the 21 multi. Unless you have a below average board, you wont be BCLK limited until around 4.6 on a 920. You'll probably need water cooling though, it will most likely be too hot for air.
You don't need a template, just start winding it up and see what you need to change to get there.
Sold my 17 920 to a friend and I am ordering the 17 960 as soon as he pays me . If I get a decent binning I will take it to where I believe this platform will go .
Can anyone explain this?
The driver no install in the Win Seven 64 bits!

I dont know how well the CPU will OC, but with the x24 multi (x25 with the Turbo multi), 201 BCLK will be more then enough. Here are my settings for 201 BCLK, which should at least keep your board stable. But I can't guarantee how well the CPU will OC...

Hello guys! I'm not new to this forum but I haven't really been on for awhile. I am wanting to become more in tune with my Rampage II Extreme and GENE on X58. I will do my best to read through here to find some insight tips on area of voltages and frequancies but if anybody is willing to PM me with shared notes on a DO i7 920 on this mobo that would be cool. I got a stable daily 3.8GHz at 200x19 w/ DDR1600. I did a few bench test at 4GHz with 20x200 DDR 1600 but got a few BSOD's so I believe I need to learn more of the safe voltages to rais and in what order for safe daily as well as cool running. I will post BIOS template as soon as I get my notes in order.
Thankx in advance!
Hey Nuckin Futs congrats on your new R2X . Throw up your idle and 100% load temps to give us an idea what your working with .
Things have now changed a bit on my main PC. I got the Corsair H50 with dual fans, and installed it today. Temps seemed to have went down from what they where before. On the stock fan i was doing 135F only on idle alone. Now i am doing about 111F on idle. I ran those test from what you can see in the pic's. I am for now running at stock speeds, along with memory (Corsair XMS3 6 GB 1600mhz). Let me know what settings I can try and where I can take this beast, lol. Thanks again.

Well good move on your cooling upgrade . Your now around 43c at idel with stock settings . Lets try for 4.0Ghz first . Go with a x20 ratio & 200 BCLK & core voltage lets use 1.40v . Run LinX 20 times using all memory . If you fail LinX bump up the core voltage to 1.4375v and run LinX again . Watch your temps while LinX is running and report back with results . If temps look good we will push for more and then when you reach your max safely and stable we will fine tune that core voltage .
I started to run LinX and I was not comfortable running it when i saw the high Temps in CoreTemp hit turn orange and hit187F after a few seconds. I ran it under both Voltages with the same result. Right now i am running at 4GHZ with Core Voltage at 1.4375. Should i lower it to 3.8? i am not sure if this will hold when i start to play COD4 or GTAIV, thanks.
That would about 80c it was hitting on you for core temp running LinX . That is very except-able temps for LinX stability testing for i7 9_ _ series processors . Take a look a couple pages back here with my post on LinX runs and look at my temps . Can you post your temps in Celsius please ? Run LinX for 20 times with all memory with the 4.0Ghz settings and that will tell us if your 100% stable there . Use the lower voltage first I gave you .
I tired to run it with 1.4V and all memory and it blue screen on me after about 20 seconds or so, with temp readings around 90C. I bumped it up to 1.4375V but saw the same and i stopped it about 30 seconds in.
@My dog. I have all those settings at Auto.

90c is high , I don't like that at all ! Address your cooling because that will hold you back . I suggest you do not try for more then 4.0Ghz with the temps you have now . 4.0Ghz is a respectable frequency and will give you fine over all performance . I would like to see you lower your temps and until then lets try to get 3.6Ghz 100% stable for you . If that is okay with you let me know . I could right you a book on over clocking but slow and steady wins the race . Over clocking safely is the #1 priority . A bit of information zoo81 is you only have with a i7 920 X20 cpu multi ratio with Turbo disabled . Leave Turbo disabled and use X20 cpu multi ratio hard set in your bios . When Turbo is enabled that x21 cpu multi ratio is only good for one core and is useless for overclocking in my opinion . If you would like to zoo81 you can run p95 to test for stability . It is less stressful then LinX and you will see lower temps when its running but I believe it will declare your over clock stable for you , not as stable as a LinX stable rig .
Can anyone help me with this issue:
I have a rig based on the rampage extreme II. core i7 cup 920@3.8Ghz, 6GB RAM, 2 750GB HDDS in a Raid0 configuration and 3xGTX285 GPUs in an SLI configuration.
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit is installed.
I would like to use standby mode. But unfortunately the rig does not wake up when I restart from standby. It won't boot but it powers up (no boot screen though - the display remains black [no signal]).
Does anyone have an idea how to solve this (hibernate works though)?
I have tried those settings, but my PC doesn't like them lol. My BIOS resets to default when i try those settings. Any suggestions as to what to bump up or down? I feel 4.2GHZ would be a bit too much i think when it comes time for gaming. I think 3.6GHZ to 3.8GHZ would probably be best for me. But let me know what you think. Thanks again.
Okay zoo81 go for 3.6Ghz , setting your BCLK to 180 and your cpu multi ratio to x20 & cpu core voltage to lets say , try 1.375v . Run p95 this time for 3 hours for me . If you fail here try cpu core voltage 1.40v and run p95 for 3 hours . Like I said before , we will fine tune your cpu core voltage after to have it just right for your final cpu core frequency . Like before take a pic of your p95 & core temp results ( or run LinX 20 times if temps are okay ) . After that I will see if 3.8Ghz will be our next goal . After we find a nice safe 24/7 100% stable home for your cpu frequency I will help you hard set your complete bios . Take your time no hurry . Congrats to the Saints 31 to 17 !!! Damn good playing !!!
I have had simular issues on this with mine but only when overclocked up in the 200x range, 181x was fine but it did do some weird stuff like waking up soon after I put it to standby. I could use Hibernate and if I utilized hibrid sleep (standby) it would "locked" lock up on resume from S3 sleep but if I reset it would resume on repost. On my 200x uclk it now keeps waking up after S3 (sleep/standby) & S4 (hibernate) and all known settings are off for timers and wake from keyboards. However, I do have a gyro gaming wireless keyboard and it did this on the non II rampage x48 but if I removed the keyboard it was fine, it stayed asleep.
I too would like to get some feedback on this issue
I followed these guidelines and mine passed with colors at 4GHz but with 20x multi. I am also cool to get 4.2 but I wanna find the lowest combo of temps v/s voltages for daily 4GHz. See below, in BOLD is what I changed or picked.
Now I am curious about the PLL left at lowest. Is it not benifitial anymore to slightly increase this as in X48 w/ core 2 quads? I had mine at 1 level from up from lowest for the longest time stable but moved it down for testing.
Loadline calibration: I had always used in all my ROG mobos sice X38 Maximus. It has and still helps to keep vcore (for my uses) in target but if anything the vdrop will then happen innlow use, not the other way around.
votages? What is a realistic decrease for my i7 920 (DO) if I only need 4GHz 20x200? Can I lower QPI any less w/ stabilty you think or this safe range if temps are good, or is this more to do with DRAM and BCLK? Can I effectively lower my NB/SB core volts then if bk down to 20x200?
Otherwise, it ran good so far. Temps are hitting average loaded in Prime of upto 72c 1/2 & 68c 3/4. Is this normal for a noticable differance between 1/2 & 3/4 core temps? in idle they are cores 1/2= 39c, 3/4= 34c
Remember that your CPU and MB will be stable at different settings than mine, so you have to test with differnt voltage settings. Some get their 920 D0 stable at 4,2 GHz with only 1,2 vcore.
Looks like you're right about the vdrop with the loadline cal. setting I've turned i t back on. For 4GHz you could try vcore @ 1,25-1,27 and QPI/Dram @1,3-1,35 but I would leave the NB/SB voltage as is for now.
has anyone got their i7 920 lapped
im seriously thinking of lapping my i7 and ek supreme lt
i have mounted my cooler many times even trying differnt pastes but cant get it cool with the watercooling i have in my sig
i know the lt isnt the best block to have but @ 4.2 with only 1.3v im hitting 80c surley it should be lower that that
my idle temps are 49/43/48/41 and romm temps about 10c
Before lapping it, just check if the IHS is convex or concave... a lap job doesn't always warrant lower temps, only thing it warrants is loss of warranty... and 80°c's is that LinX stress ? or gaming load ?
80c is linx load
i want too get it a bit lower because any more volts or mhz causes it to go close and even over 90c
i tried to test if it was unlevel but it didnt seem that bad slightly concave
but ive tried everything to get the temps down with no success
A new Bios in Town

Changelog is not aviable.
Mike.
I've have them temps too at 4.2Ghz with my I950, it's just a hothead and that one got a dedicated loop with a 120.3 to cool it down...
Some CPU's are just hotter than others... but you also got loads of blocks in ya loop... that will not help temps at all...
Persoanlly I would stay away from lapping it.
And for your info LinX temps are not even remotely reached in daily use... if ya CPU even reaches 65°C when gaming it's a lot...
Yup for right now your R2X board is taking care of that okay . We will hard set everything later like I do my bios except of coarse based on your cpu final over clock frequency . If you pass 3.6Ghz then go for 3.8Ghz by just increasing your BCLK to 190 and of coarse test and post results . Keep a good eye on your temps and take your time , no hurry .
I recently instlalled win7 and updated the drivers from the ASUS website. For some reason the supremefx xi-fi card software does not work. Even though the hardware is listed in the device manager, the software states that it cannot find the installed device and the software stops... has anyone workind the card with software under win7?
Any reason to flash the new bios if you don't need the added cpu support?
For me, it often fix the cold boot problems and problems with system not waking up properly.
I have some questions about mobo temperature. After switching back to passive air cooling, I see my NB/SB temp rise above my CPU at idle (currently at 47c for both). Will they overheat? Not to mention I am currently back to stock clock after a bios flash.
When my R2E board was on air the NB/SB typically ran at a max of 53-54C at SLI load. Idle was around 46C (ambient ~20.5C). I think the max it's specified to take is around 90C.
Hi I'm trying to out my new Gulftown and I would like your opinion on thesettings here.
http://img229.imageshack.us/img229/1779/settings1.jpg
The 980x is quite different than the 920 on OC requiers lot more vcore, but seem to be a lot cooler.
I'm running the new 1802 bios.
That's some pretty high voltages for a 32nm, not what I was expecting at all. You really need that much vcore? The QPI for only 900 MHz ram and 180 BCLK too is surprising. I've no idea if it's okay, I guess if it needs it it needs it nothing that you can do there.
Ok well probably best bet is to set the voltages for what it requires at that speed/ram settings etc then ask for what people think or otherwise you'll just get people remarking on how high the voltages are.
Well the CPU seems to need high vCore but it runs quite cool anyway.
Did a Vantage run at 4768MHz, you can see the screens here: http://www.diskusjon.no/index.php?se...ost&p=15208990
Not correct AFAIK. With 21x multi set, I have 21.00x on all 4(8) cores even when under full load. Might want to check with the Turbo Tool and see if it's the same for yours.

I have problems with BIOS 1704/1802 , windows 7 starts and then BSOD-s on this 2 bioses, on 1504 no problems .What can be the problem ?
^^
With so little info it's hard to help... :)
This could be any number of things but the most common is probably the IDE settings. Make sure you have the drive controller settings properly configured before trying to boot into Windows. Memory timings, voltage, etc. is another possibility that quickly comes to mind.
Im using 1504s setings ,when try with Optimised Default settings there is no problem with 1802.I thing that problem is in memory settings or some controller because Prime gives error in Blend test in the beggining of the test.I dissabled J Micron in bios to prevent this test in the beggining ,im using RAID 0 ,maybe this is the problem with IDE ?

It's either your overclocking settings or the CPU not making a good contact with the pins that is causing the issue.
Bingo, you need a pin!

Hey guys, haven't posted in this thread in forever!! I want to put a third vid card in the bottom slot for Physx, but I cannot fit my titanium sound card in the top slot with my koolance NB/SB/QPI-Dram waterblock. I was thinking of just selling my koolance block and get the bitspower R2E block since I have heard it will allow my sound card in that top 1x pci-e slot. Do you think it's worth it this late in this boards life to buy another WB? Or should I just wait for the new asus board? If it would be good to get the new block, who wants to buy my koolance one? LOL :P
I'd just wait for the R3E to come out, then assess the options.
so look me PC.
pci-e #1: GTX 280
pci-e #2: GTX 280
cpi : Xonar D2
pci-e #3: 9800GT for physx
all cooled with BP set ;)
