couldn't believe it myself, but Gautam said that it would be the case and he was 100% correct. it just goes to show how much the stock heat pipe assembly does hold watercooling back. i don't understand why they continue with these horrible designs with heat pipe roller coasters and waterblocks when the entire time they hinder cooling tremendously.
nope, no skew settings or much of anything out of the ordinary. here is the kicker though, much anything over 600FSB, even at tRD9, i can't get to run dual 32M stable. i have managed a dual 32M run at 610FSB but with tRD of 10. obviously, as my last set of results under LN2 show, benching well above 600FSB is no problem...even with the air cooling attachment. just any form of real stress on the NB is a no go much over 600FSB on my board.
yes, it is a well documented fact that most all recent Intel chipsets treat the 3:5 ratio when on the 400 strap as a 2:3 ratio. CPU-Z picks up what the BIOS tells it to and that is a 3:5 ratio but in reality, it is actually just 2:3. a couple of us did some extensive testing and came to this conclusion based on bandwidth after some folks were posting obscene clocks on the 3:5 but with terrible performance. it was then confirmed shortly after by one of the MB manufacturers.
Just halted a 2 1/2 hr prime blend run at 430x9 at 1:1 mem (1720) - might be getting somewhere at last. Thanks to MnM and EF for posting detailed settings - I am using a hybrid of both so far. Just dialled in 450 so we'll see how far this gets. On AIR with stock heatpipe assy bar AS5 and washers so we'll see what happens ...............:)

I've just picked up an E8600 from YoyoTech yesterday, they received a new batch of Q820A627, which seems to be getting great feedbacks on the 8600 clockin' thread.
Finalizing my stability tests and will post it later on :D

By the way I tried different Clock Twister settings using Everest bandwidth bench, and for some reason you only gain performance benifits going up from "Light" to "Moderate", but then performance goes down using either "Strong" and "Stronger". "Lighter" essentially means this internal timings tighening is turned off, as there is a relatively big performance drop off going from "Light" to "Lighter".
So basically for best performance use "Moderate" Clock Twister settings, at least untill a BIOS fix this issue...
at different FSBs and different memory straps/ratios/mem timings...you can get a benefit from going to Strong, but at the same time i have also found in those instances, Stronger provided less bandwidth than Strong, like you found.
general rule of thumb...there are no hard fast rules, just things that seem to be the case at the specific settings you test at :up:
haha, but at least it's easy to check at whatever settings you are working with.
on that note though, i have never found Stronger to ever beat Strong, but have ran into the situation where Stronger won't load Windows while Strong does so i am assuming that would be a situation where it would be on top :shrug:
Thanks to everybody for sharing information! Finally I got my own RE installed and now it is my turn to ask for your help.
I can not get two stick of my 2x2GB dominators to boot - it hangs with a black screen and the LCD poster says Det DRAM. Every time I boot with one stick after not being able to boot with two stick the post screen tells me overclock failed pres F1 bla bla indicating some setting is not right when using two sticks). Both sticks work fine if I only use one stick (in slot B2) and the memory I use are on Corsair's compatible list for this motherboard. I always put both sticks in the white slots (A2/B2). I have the stock heatpipe with the TIM replased with MX-2 everywhere and the washer mod. I have not tried to OC yet, only set basic settings manual (disabled all the CPU stuff and all onboard devices except LAN1). This problem is there both with BIOS 0301, 0403, and 0501 (the latter is what I use now).
My memory use Samsung IC, their SPD is 8-8-8-24-2T at 1.8V. Unfortunately I do not have other memory around to test.
I suppose I have overlooked some little setting or trick but I hope I have tested the most common things and therefore "qualify" for asking for help.
I have tried to leave all settings in Extreme Tweaker on Auto except CPU ratio and FSB (to prevent it from setting FSB to 450 automatically) and gradually setting things manual to the point below:

You can try this at your own risk of course. But take your ram voltage up to 1.9 .I found with my ram and this board it would not even boot at the rated 1.9 volts but if i take it to 2.04 it boots fine. I do have a differant kit and i can overvolt to 2.1 and not void my warrenty ..So thats why i say do so at your own risk. You say they both work by them selfs in the b/2 slots but what about by them selfs in the a/2 slot what are the results from doing that ? If they dont work in that slot by them self. Might be something wrong with your mobo and adding voltage i doubt would fix it.
The reason for CSX Diablo mem in conjuction with this RE not working nicely in some cases might be due to the bios not being able to read the spd correct.
Look at the pic below, 4 instances of CPU-Z, all showing the SPD of memslot 4, all showing completely different information:
It's like this, from cpu to the right: A1 A2 B1 B2, channel 1 is the blue slots, channel 2 is the white slots.
Thanks EF - been priming at 450x9 for about 90 mins now - the small room I call an office (play room really:)) is like a sauna!!. Prime is now on the 560000LLi @ 12k FFT loop so looking good so far. If this works then i'll try again with CR1 command rate, breaking 11k read speed on Everest now so things are moving on. I never thought this was possible and was about to try X38 !!! but it seems that CPU & NB GTL's make the world of difference. Once I have this nailed i'll rip off the stock cooling and kit it out with Thermalright H/sinks similar to Vega22.
What S/W are people using to capture screen shots ?
Excellent work with your E8600 BTW :up::up:. So what CPU will you use for gaming - quad or dual ?
MnM - will post my bios settings in the morning once Prime has completed some more hours. Some of the voltages are midway between EF's and yours so might not run as hot. My auto Performance Level is 6 so I really don't know how this is worked out as we have similar hardware unless it's due to you having all the memory slots populated.
good question Ron and the distinction between benching and 24/7 has to be made. the best kit for all out memory
frequency for benching seems to be D9JNM but so far has only been demonstrated with a single kit...

they are D9JNM which i just don't get because i was under the assumption most Micron was similar in needs/wants
to run high clocks. if drive strength is the issue then perhaps D9JNM likes low drive strengths? :shrug:
the other thing to keep in mind is what FSB you are going to be running. 1100MHz memory i don't think is really a
benefit to any benchmarkers except perhaps the 32M LCC junkies like myself to be truthfully honest. with dual
cores, you are going to be running 600FSB+ which gives us 2:3 for high 600FSB+ clocks and 5:8 at or around
600FSB...or at least up to 620FSB you are still under 1000MHz so 7-6-5 @ 1000MHz or a bit less is the ideal kit.
my D9GTR and D9GTS run this with no problems on this board, both being exceptional kits on all platforms it seems.
for quads, you are likely around the 500FSB at the top end, perhaps a bit higher. either way, the 1:2 ratio is likely
the ticket there and again, right around 1000MHz or just over. if you have a bad quad that only runs 450FSB then
pretty much any kit will be fine because the RE doesn't seem to have issue with D9GTR for high CL6 clocks with my
G.Skills (D9GTR) clocking up to 860MHz 6-6-5 for dual 32M SPi quite easy. if you happen to have a quad benching
over 500FSB, then perhaps you will be wanting that elusive D9JNM kit as D9GTS/D9GTR seem to run out of gas
much past 1000MHz, CL7 or CL8.
i won't ramble on anymore but I think you can see what I am getting at. In the end, it seems RE owners looking for
top benchmark results should be looking for the best CL7 clocking kit they can which comes down to D9GTR or
D9GTS...despite the negative comments I have made. The logistics of what FSB you are benching at will dictate
your needs though.
keep in mind this entire response is directed toward benchmarking and not 24/7. but...for 24/7 the above
information is somewhat relevent, at least the part about what FSB you are going to be running, for 24/7 600FSB
isn't likely going to be the goal; neither is 1100MHz memory or 1000MHz CL7. i like the combination of 450FSBish,
900MHz CL7 for daily use...assuming you have the multiplier to hit your highest stable CPU frequency at that FSB.
because we all know, memory frequency is about the last thing you should be considering for 24/7 stability...CPU
frequency is king and memory clocks/timings/chipset timings should always be sacrificed for CPU frequency for 24/7 :up:

lifetime of a computer component. they are now usually coming with D9GTS but have had some D9JNL and perhaps
some D9JNM as well, so what you are going to get is hard to say. it is such an easy bin that they can throw pretty
much anything on them now and hit spec.
