looks like i needed to bump the fsb voltage a bit more
right now im running-
450x8
fsb volts : +.15v (needed +.1 to get my cpu stable, and +.15 for the ram)
mch volts: +.1v
is that safe?

I was going to make another annoying first post about the core2 system I built but instead I followed instructions and started reading up on the recommended links. Not only did I learn about the availability of Antec cases in the EU circa 2003 but my most pressing bios mystery was unraveled after a mere 10 minute invested perusing these sage quarters. Also, I feel smarter but it is probably just the caffeine. Now I will return to my studies before I post about how the 5L bios gave me BSODs (probably my own fault) and see if its just a coincidence that other folks seem to share my preference for 5H.
This a great resource. Love my DQ6 but its got a hell of a learning curve.

Yes of course inf -driver is needed regardles of SP version.. SP2 is a must for data security. Thats why i would install it in a hurry. Cannot imagine why someone would voluntary be online wit SP1. Anyways there must be something fundamentally wrong if DVD-drive doesnt work after a clean install... just like you adviced device manager is exactly what i would also look first.Quote:

I have the same MB ...clean installed XP SP1 about a week ago...had PATA HD as master and PATA CD-RW/DVD drive as slave. No problem there. If one has just DVD- drive on ide cable one has to set it up as a master. There cannot be slave without a master. Always setup HD as master. After this one should install inf -drivers and see if that helps.
I´ll soon install Vista from PATA DVD-drive (setup as master) to SATA HD... will see how that goes.
You see it correctly. :) Installed sp2, nothing changed. Tried 3 cables, no go. But I may have the solution. One of the pins (or what you call it) is only half the height of the others. It is pin no. 21, which is responsible for some DMA thing :) (and guess it is related to some Windows stuff). I guess I tried to put the ide cable the other way round and it pushed the pin back. I didn't notice this then, but clearly I have a non-working rw drive since then. :)Quote:

You can try to pull that pin back... jus be very carefull not to overdo it bcause solder or the pin can break quite easily. I did this once to my floppy.

Other than extra pcie(4x) slot,firewire,ide connector placement, and better nb heatsink.....is there any difference in terms of performance between the
-DS3R vs. -DS3P. Do they both have similar issues or does one work better than the other such as memory dividers,stability,etc? Im just thinking that since the placement of adding PCIE 4x slot, therefore making the board layout a bit different may affect performance in different ways for both types of board. I am leaning towards -DS3R because i dont care for firewire I ony care for overclocking and it seems both can do that well. I am just worried about memory divider issues or other bugs that are only present in each board separately.
Anyone can share some input? Seems like to me reading from here they both have same issues so getting one vs. the other wont matter? Thanks for reading.
F5m beta bios for the P35-DQ6, bios dated August 1st 2007....it fixed an issue with the "official" beta on the Gigabyte website relating to an unknown device being listed in Device Manager, namely the Trust Platform Module 1.2

Anyone had any flakyness with the DQ6 i was doing a slight overclock with an e6850 380fsb 1.35v and I bumped up them memory still not to its capacity when i set the setting in the bios goes back to defaults kept doing it tryed using easy tune nothing still runs stock well i removed easytune reinstalaled an old version and then updated it it mysteriously started actually working. LOL i go to install new version of easytune try to set the setting press go and poof reboots no overclock bios even has the settings now its back to not overclocking again. Ive tried removing easytune altogether setting in bios nothing. I Only had the memory at 912 well under its rated speed. Its just flaky sometimes its overclocked sometimes its not. Any clues from anyone having similiar issues
