I noticed that when I flashed to the latest beta BIOS (965pdq6.F8c) that the option for HPET is now added.
I had thought that the registers of the timer should be 32-bits for full functionality and that 64-bit support would be forced to 32-bit. So why is there an option fo 32/64-bit?
I was also just curious to know if x64 XP supports high precision event timers. If memory serves me right, Vista supports HPET.

Does this reported problem (loss of OC bios settings) have to do only with the DS3? I was considering this board (or the DS6 rev 2.0) after being disappointed with the reports of SATA issues with the 680i boards (EVGA). The last time I checked (couple of months ago) this was one of THE boards to go with - now I'm not sure.

Seems to be a new bug introduced in the F8 series of beta BIOSes. Folks using the S3 can use the same BIOS and they do experience the same problem. Heres hoping GB can fix this before they officially release F8 - otherwise its a great board, great overclocker. But not holding the OC and taking ~10 reboots to get it to hold sux. Once it's running and the OC sticks its a nice board. At this time I wouldnt suggest this board to anyone, this issue is too frustrating. Everytime I would cold boot my system I would have 15 mins of screwing around to get it to come back up with my overclocked settings.Quote:

The F8c bios has 1.06.59, it makes sense that since it's not final as yet to update the JMicron bios ROM to the very latest.

Interest in this thread and the boards has decreased because of the extreme waiting period and the extreme issues with the new/beta bios. My board is being replaced by newegg because of the F8J fiasco and I can honestly say that if they send me a rev 1 board, it will go up for sale instead of going into my machine.
I'm running my backup C19-A SLI in the mean time and it is more stable than the DS3 ever was. It won't overclock as high, but at least I always know it will boot and run without problems. That is a sad commentary in my opinion.

Does anyone think the "D9 flaw" will affect running tighter timings with lower frequencies in addition to the "FSB/frequency" cap of around 460/920?
For example it is known that d9MGH will often run 3-3-3 at FSB 400 or at least 3-4-3 provided you give enough volts (2.3 volts usually works)
My Crucial Ballistix is running 3-3-3-12-16 at 533mhz on my nforce4 board. It would never run that tight on the DS3.Quote:

Anyone know if f8i will work on ds3 rev2 boards? I know they changed out the nic controller for the one in the s3. I'm assuming it'd be fine since people are flashing ds3 on their s3's. Not really bothered to flash from f7 though. Running 400fsb and 4:5 1000 4-4-4-12 2.3v at the moment. Vdimm set in bios is 0.1v less than actual set voltage for me.

The DS3 Rev 2 has shipped sporadically from newegg over the last month. You can't be sure yet which one you will get. I am hoping my replacement ends up being a rev 2.

I installed this F8 Qualification BIOS but when I tried to get back into the BIOS I got a continous beep and restart. I tried pressing the Reset & Pwr buttons together and removing the pwr cable but that didn't work. I finally removed the pwr cable and shorted out the Clear CMOS pins. That worked.
I noticed that when I pressed Ctrl-F1 there's a new menu item 'Advanced Chipset Features'. Under this item there is one option that's not greyed out. It's 'GbE LAN'. Anybody know what this is for and should I leave it Enabled or Disable it?
I currently don't have my E6400 installed; just my 805D. I'm probably not going to reinstall it to see if does me any good until I see how this BIOS works with a few other DS users.

My disclaimer is that I flashed it to my S3 board, not a DS3. But that shouldn't really matter.
Anyway, at first it was cold booting continuously after the initial flash. Reset the CMOS via jumper, all is well.
I set my OC, same one I run stable with the F6 bios for the S3 - 490x7 1.425v bios, ram at 5-6-6-15 timings 2.1v
System cold boots a few times and then resets the bios. Will not take that OC no way no how, always resets. Tried different cpu voltage, different ram timings. No go.
Clocked it down to 480x7, 1.45v - Does allow me to boot to windows. If I shut down and restart, resets bios and back to square one.
So it looks like it's a better bios overall then F8j, but not so good since it really killed my already stable OC.
I do like the fact that bios profiles are added so you can save your settings. 8 slots is sweet. I hope they add that in the next S3 bios revision. But I also hope that I don't lose my OC on the next S3 bios.
Back to F6 and my higher OC.
No I believe the ds3p is more closely related to the dq
15 minutes and I'll post my results... Still haven't came close to maxing my OC's due to either a weak clocking ram stick (have 4 sticks) usb issue (no ps/2 adapters) or weak PSU (still waiting on my RMA... Using a 430W Cooler Master 18 amp 12v...)

Didn't they fix the issue with D9 going over 450 Mhz with this BIOS, oh yea and added profiles to save your overclock and supposedly the issue where rebooting the computer lost your overclock.
Why is none of this mentioned?

F8i BIOS, but this doesn't matter because unfortunately it's nowhere near stable at these settings.
F8i, F8j & F8 final are all quiet slow in 3D benching compared to the F7 BIOS.
Noticeable slower in ... let's say ... '01 system tests. :(
The F8's aren't really useful for us with an E6600 or higher. We're not in need of very high FSB. But the F8's are probably a must for those with an E6300/E6400 Core 2 Duo.
I'm back to DS3 F7 BIOS on my rev.C2 S3 mobo.
I'm happy with the speed of this BIOS, the OC'ability of this BIOS is sufficient ( for my needs ) because my L628A E6600 isn't the greatest clocker in this sucky world. :D
I got no problems with my D9GMH & DS3. I'am using bios F8I.
1:1 divider 483Mhz 4-4-3-9 (max cpu freq )
4:5 divider 520mhz 4-4-4-12
damn guessing i'm going to hold off flashing. no real complaints with f7 so far
A little improvement for me, but I'm still having other hardware issues. Improved my OC a little, but nowhere near potential. Going to try my two good sticks instead of using 4. My PSU is terrible, I've been waiting for a month for my PSU RMA (Kingwin 600W mach1) and still nothing...
My ram will definately hold back my OC, they have elipda chips (PQI Turbo DDR2 667 4-4-4-12.) I've maxed 4 of them @ 910mhz 5-5-4-4 on my P5W DH (455mhz FSB.)
With the F8 bios, if an OC fails, it will reboot 3 times (the cycle where it turns on for 3 seconds and shuts off) but it then boots, sometimes at the same OC. It always saves my settings, just have to reenable the clock control.
can anyone confirm if the OC not holding on a cold boot is still an issue?
