Absolute I know what you mean. I'm in Texas, my 170 is on water. I can't even get my Opteron 146 to clock 3ghz on air like it did easily in January. I'm beginning to think it was a bad time to invest in overclocking hardware because I have no way of knowing how high these chips can really go with all this heat. I'm stuck @ 1.4v 2.8ghz. Prime fails anything higher. But 3Dmark 06 runs fine @ 3ghz.
Heh, well it's not as hot here as you guys in TX and PA so normally i don't need AC ever, but 5 computers on in a dorm room that's like 12' by 16' is another story lol
Maybe if it keeps getting hotter at this rate i'll be able to use my phase change on a coldbugged Opteron without a problem LOL
*actualy believe it or not, when my other roomate wakes up (what a lazy guy, 11AM) we'll have 6 computers on in here.
My 170 @ 3+ Ghz running rosetta
My 1.6 Dothan running rosetta
Roomate #1 with a 2.53 Ghz northy dell
Roomate #2 with a 2.53 Ghz northy running rosetta
also his 805D @ 3.8 Ghz running rosetta
also his laptop running a dothan at 1.86
holy craps.... i used to have a set up like that at my parents, but they got tired of the electric bill, and now that i have my own place, i see why.

Ofcourse I need your opinion!
welcome to XS- nice OC, nice 06 score, nice rig ;)
but you belong here: Official X2 Overclocking Thread
i would give the CCB1E another chance. i would also try better cooling. of course all results are YMMV, but this is my 3rd 170 and i dont really feel like buying/selling another one. im very tempted to get the CCBBE 165 though. i need to stop spending so much freakin money, heh. the next big investment i put towards my machine will probably be a custom watercooling kit. need to do a bit more research first though.Quote:

i hope i dont get flamed for that last comment, lol. :)
I plugged my 0551 and everything works fine, it's the chipQuote:

yea i know. i was SO tempted to get a CCBBE off ebay, but i resisted the urge. instead i bought a ring for my gf. too bad i cant mod that, lol.

nice, 2780 was as far as i could get my CCBBE to go on stock volts. it would boot at 310 and 311, but wasn't stable.Quote:

either the paste is starting to smooth our of my room got colder. around 38ish now.
start burning it in at 2700, i've always said i don't believe in burning in, but it may have gotten me from 2750 to 2780 on stock.Quote:

yea it is, my goal for my CCBBE was to get it stable at stock voltages at 2800, and then hope to burn in at the "linear" .1 volt per 100mhz. but i don't think this chip can do it. but i'll sure try.
It can be if you choose to do it right :) Or you could just do 1.6v and throw it to 2.8GHz and call it quits, done in 5 minutesQuote:

This is a great thread here CompGeek, good job.
I have a CCBWE 0551 UPMW, at 2.61ghz, 1.45v, stable as shown in my sig, and I can do 2.7ghz happily at 1.5v. It's not a killa stepping like some of the CCB1Es, but I wouldn't say that it is one to avoid.
my 165 (CCBBE 0610) does 2.8 on stock volts, but only on decent weather. It's freakin hot in soCal now, so stock volts is outta the question. So now I'm at 2.8Ghz @ 1.39V prime and 3D stable.
sweet result.Quote:

Ehh, it's warm and damp here in NY when I ran that test. No AC, so I imagine room temp was 22C/72F. As you can tell, it's a pretty high load temp for just 1.39v (1.425v bios).Quote:

welcome to XS. nice clocks with the 0551. its on the avoid list because the list was created to guide users in buying chips that will hit 3ghz. so if you want to hit 3ghz, avoid those steppings.Quote:
