wont prime for over 1 min so not at all. If I could keep the temp down It could probly be stable with a bit more tweaking.

Heres a new stable clock. Same chip as used on the Biostar board, now on the Asus 79-T w/water cooling. Could probably get more out of the IMC but I wanted to make sure it wasn't a factor....

Great idea! - imo. this will be my benchmark to jump onboard.
I was going to build a Core i7 workstation this year but I'm just not feeling the warm fuzziness I got when I built my Opteron workstation's(OC value).
So I'm gonna wait for PII silicon to improve and see how things look from there.
I can buy a second video card with the money I will save building an AMD rig :)
Im topping out at 3.63ghz right now, I havent really played too much yet because I was out of town but seems like Im hitting a wall somewhere, and it def isnt temp. I havent really bumped the voltage over 1.38v on the proc either though, anyways here are my results:

Also debating swapping mobos out if I cant get past this. Is anyone enabling ACC? Not really sure if its applicable as a mobo setting due to it being enabled already on the proc itself now.
It's the vcore probably, for 3.7-3.8Ghz you'll need around 1.45-1.5V(my estimate from known results at XS).If you have good cooling 1.5V isn't that high(1.35V is def.)
So with the vcore at 1.45v it should still be safe? Im using the Noctua U12P in my sig and I have yet to see my proc under core temp exceed 40C. Thanks :-)
Would anyone be interested in my running tests with the spec benchmark for 3dsmax 9? I'm downloading the benchmark for fun but I could test scaling across a range of speeds from stock to 4.1ghz if it would be of use to anyone. I would do solidworks too, but I'm not sure if my version is the right one for the benchmark.
Just a quick recap in case anyone runs into this issue. This was my experience but YMMV. I purchased the Foxconn A7DA-S with the 940 and it will not POST. I took a friend's AM2 chip and it POSTED. Created a USB "boot disk" with the latest bios, P06, and flashed the board. Popped the old AM2 chip out and the 940 in. The computer POST and then booted up completely. So if your mobo doesn't POST, then you'll more than likely have to use another AM2 chip to flash the board first. This is for the A7DA-S board. It seems like those with the A79A-S bios, it POST but only identified the CPU as an AMD unknown cpu. This brings me to the next few quotes:
With the P06 bios on the A7DA-S board, the multiplier that I see is in the xNN.N format, not in hex. From what I remember, it went all the way up to x30 as the max multiplier. I don't know if they have made any changes to the BIOS since you guys have flashed it or it's due to the different boards (maybe the NB chipset? 790FX vs the 790GX?). Just my experience.
Please show some stabilitytest-screenies.. like OCCT.. running..
Just to document anything regarding "temperatures" (coretemp=same for all cores on Phenom=one sensor) and other usages than running CPU-Z. :p:
@dawei213:
Some boards/bios'es do not have a problem booting with an "unknown CPU".
Others again will not boot.
My Gigabyte GA-MA69G-DS3H and MSI DKA790GX boot'ed up fine with X4 920, even with a bios "not supporting" PhenomII.
Flashed.. to get "support" (and CPU "ID String") and more otpions in Bios.. for both mb's.
This is the way it should be. There are no special instructions in a new CPU-model that should stop it from booting in a pin-compatible socket.
Where can I grab OCCT?
Here's a little more for you just finished playing with 3dmark Ill run prime a little later... Still not happy with 3.7ghz, I want atleast 3.8 before I give up. Granted this is just 3dmark and not a multithreaded prime instance but here's a little more:

I posted this in a couple of other forums but for those of you who do not visit those I have some good news and some bad news.
The bad news is I no longer have the (ES) chip as I sold it off to someone else so I could get a Retail chip to see if it was pretty much the same. Why do I say that is bad news............well.....it was not a Phenom II 940 BE (ES) AM2+ chip......it was a Phenom II 945 BE (ES) AM3 chip. I just confirmed it today when I took a look at the pins on the AM2+ version and they are different. There are other things that have caused a suspicion as well, but this actually sealed the deal.
Anyway some one is going to have some fun if they can get them an AM3 MB and some good DDR3.
:(:(:(
The good news is that it is indeed a 945 and that we could see some results sooner than later for the 945. Also we now have an idea of how they will overclock on the current platform as well.
I actually sold it for the same price I paid for it + $5 for shipping. If I would have known what it was I would have never sold it, but bought a new MB when they became available.
doh
better luck next time buddy :)
