Oh c'mon m8... that comment wasn't meant to be an attack on anyone's input and you know it. Being a little sarcastic is just the way I deal with this, because I never had dying mobos before and because it sucks.
Now, I have been around long enough to know that it's not my fault these boards died (except that I did overclock, which doesn't make me more guilty than any one of you).
I did check the block pressure, and like I said, it was as high as it gets.
Better cooling probably wouldn't help, considering andre X_X is having the same problems with a Dualcore. He was also running folding with >100A drawn from the CPU and he uses stock cooling with extra fans so I'm guessing it won't help either.
However, if you are right and the problem really is about cooling, we will see with the next one, since I will be using the new prototype block Mips sent me that goes directly onto the PWMs with thermal grease.

I really can't accept you blaming me for being the one who killed these boards out of stupidity or carelessness. It's not true and you know it - you'd also be mad if this had happened to you, now wouldn't you :mad:

:mad: So by this reasoning, I killed my board because I suck at OC'ing? Even though I did not change the stock cooling other than adding a fan, and I did nothing more than what I've done with all my previous systems, which is Fold 24/7. I call BS, and you're out of line Ace.:nono:

Well, now all the sudden , each time I reboot my PC I get BIOS ROM error and everything turns to default! it is all the sudden, I didn't change anything.

anytime we, as a collective group of overclockers, adjust the design of the board by altering the cooling method, we are taking a big chance at harming or killing the board....blame is, would be soley on us, not abit.

i wish you good luck that the modified block works for you...but...i will tell you that 165 amps is not right...i would have discontinued right away and have taken a smaller overclock to prevent the failure....i had to do that with my 2nd 9650...it is a bad overclocker and it draws the board into overheating the core and PWM...

Since you're such a bad ass OC'er, I challenge you to go get a Q6600, OC it to 3.6+ on an IX38, and SMP fold for 1 month without any buzzing sounds. Instead of accusing people of killing boards through negligence/stupidity, how about you contribute something useful to this thread??

well just want to share my ix38 n q66 already run for a few month running at 3,6@1,4v bench ~4G

still doing ok :D even not 24/7 but its my only gaming n bench rig

just re-apply th paste n use nut&bolt +4cm fan :) but i guess some get unlucky :yepp:

LISTEN, you opened your big mouth first...this was between jcool and myself...SO...when you entered the discussion you caused the REPLY...so...stay out of it!

as to working out the problem with this board really comes down to the user...if you overclock with high voltages, you are going to get high amperage and a LOT of heat!..the two can and WILL destroy the board.

So why does this same problem not happen with other motherboards using digital PWM's? If other manufacturer's mobos are not having these problems (and I haven't seen any such reports) then it points to a problem and/or limitation with Abit's board, not the user.

R*r, good to hear your board is doing well. What's the amperage reading in uGuru?

I mean is part of your career or just a hobby. because would it be cheaper to just buy four playstation 3's and fold with them? Or how about a server board and some xeon's which probably would be more equipped for the higher temps.

Purely hobby, but I have had family members succumb to both cancer and Alzheimer's, so the project is near and dear to me. ;) I'm building the system to be for gaming and such, but I leave it on and folding when I'm not using it.

About the 165A, of course I stepped down as soon as I saw it... but it didn't help, because one or more phase chips died. See, after the incident, I got like 110A at 3Ghz with 1,1V or so :(

Bottom line is, this mobo definitely has problems with permanent high load, no matter if the cooling is altered or not. I sure hope Johnny and Abit can figure it out together.

It's a distributed computing project done through Stanford University. Basically there's a program that runs in the background and takes advantage of your unused CPU cycles. no amp indication in Uguru for the IP35 Pro...only temperature indication...the Pro uses conventional mosfet circuits to provide power to the cpu...the AB9 QuadGT and the IX38 QuadGT use digital power chips so amps can be monitored.
