Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of is the thermal tape removing an IC. I have my Corsair Dominator fan on them. I'll have to take the laser temp thingy home from work and measure temps.
I'm planning to upgrade my kids board to an EP45-UD3L, since it's cheap. I'm wondering does it also run the P45-A3 chip? TIA! :-)
Yes it does, I just built one for my boss's office PC. I used that board and E7400 with some Corsair XMS DDR2-800 2x1GB sticks. I ran it at either 400fsb x9 for 3600 or 425fsb x8 for 3400 with RAM 1:1 and it was quick! I could have ran it higher but didn't as it he wouldn't of noticed. I would recommend replacing the stock cooler and using a case with some room for a couple 120mm fans. 1 for front and 1 for rear as usually but if you can get one on the side to blow at the motherboard that would be great!
I never posted my results of my Q9650 @450x9, well, here it is.

took me 3 weeks to fully stablize it but now it 100% stable :)

I would like to know, ehich one is for you the last stand for vcore on a quad for 24/7 on air??
Thanks radaja! Thanks to Sergio for helping me make the transition from the M2F to the UD3R!
yea i did the exact same thing.only it was by accident.i went from the P5Q-deluxe,in hopes of something better(i thought if it cost more it must be better)so i got the M2F.but i died and as luck would have the day newegg first got and posted the UD3P for sale i was looking for a cheap board to hold me over till my M2F got back from RMA.and what a surprise these boards turned out to be.
half the price and two or three times the performance.anyways your in good company here.a lot of happy and helpful members here to help out,but it looks like your doing great as is:up:
keep us updated on your 9650-UD3R endeavours
looking good already:D

If that doesnt work try going up one notch on your MCH Reference to .890
If that doesnt work bump the MCH ref back to .850 and try going up a couple notches on your CPU Vcore. If it still fails, set everything back to stock and open prime and let it run a couple hours. If your 1066mhz ram fails at 1066mhz with no overclock then you know the problem. Or just run memtest.
I have 3-45nm quads and all will do 4.0ghz on less than 1.30v vcore (bios), I think it is your settings or like you said, your Ram
Under Advanced BIOS settings, at the bottom. Set "Init Display First" to PEG, default is PCI. Maybe nothing but on my GTX I freeze or crash if that is set to PCI not PEG.
well i am so damn happy with my new E8400 EO vid 1.23.now that i got another kit of cellshock pc8000 im having more fun and more options.
i decided to see what the lowest vcore i could use at 9x445@4005 and it turns out that i can drop it down two notches below default vcore:D
and the cellshock at almost ddr1200 with only 2.08vdimm:up:
so heres 9x445@4005 with 1.21 bios/1.18 cpuz load ddr1186 w/2.08v
http://i40.tinypic.com/dnzsld.jpg
i just tried 450x9@4050 w/1.18v and ddr1200 w.2.08v
and it's priming just fine :D:up:

I tried running my MCH lower, 1.38v and upped my vtt to 1.28v. But i got an error, I guess I need 1.40v MCH....
yes on my system i have to go for 1,4MCH as im always over 1170Mhz with the Gskill on Turbo Profile, if i remember you are on turbo profile also mate, maybe it can handle it good if you go for standard, but with thight timmings it'll ask for more at least in my case...
cheers

and finally 8.5x530@4500 w/1.34 ddr1272 w/2.24
all runs use basicly the same settings except vcore and vdimm and vMch/vtt
http://i39.tinypic.com/34ryhsn.jpg
its nice to finally have a cpu that needs so little vcore.
i havent had to use more than 1.36v so far:D
when i get better cooling i'll be able to go 1.39v and see what
it really can do:up:

Please, could you put in your bios-settings in this Code when running your CPU with for example 4,5 Ghz? If you didnt set manually please put in auto or standard.

Just picked up an e8400 EO. Going to try my luck with a dual core on this board. 1.2375 vid, not a good start lol. Have an old CO 8400 with a 1.125vid with 2 stuck sensors, but a good clocker.
mine is 1.2375 vid oo.and is an awesome cpu.whats your batch#? mine is Q843A771
mine will do 4123GHz with default vcore,1.237.:D lets hope you got a good one too:up:
Hey radaja, my batch # is Q843A900. Trying to figure out the reference voltages. priming at 4050 now.
Was wondering what percentage to use for MCH Ref. to vtt? Got a bsod a few minutes ago. Had the CPU REf set to normal and the MCH Ref set to .738 with VTT at 1.260v. Was trying 450x9. Maybe just bad settings but doesn't look like this is going to clock as well as yours.
mine likes 0.750 for vtt/1.28 or vtt1.20 mch ref 0.700.and cpu ref at 0.76 for vtt1.20
maybe try this

Going to try that now, Thanks. I do like the temps better than on my quad, hardly gets warm in orthos.
I just got my E8500 C0 to 600FSB on my SS unit.
I feel that 625FSB on a E0 would be easy.
http://img37.imageshack.us/img37/5122/600fsb.png
Was able to get 4050mhz to pass LinX but took 1.30v bios. Not a super clocker for sure but I will keep going up, temps are great compared to the quads. Stuck idle sensor on both cores but under load seem fine.
Thanks for the help radaja
no problem.good luck tweaking it.:)
4.2ghz 1.343v bios. Other voltages the same. Had to switch out the mem, new ballistix 1066 are junk for oc'ing.

I love this Motherboard but I think I like the p35 better for ease of overclocking with a core2dou. My P5Kdeluxe would do 500fsb stable on default/stock board voltages no tweaking needed. I'm sure this board would allow for better max fsb but needs a lot of tweaking.
xzulu, have you had any trouble running ram in dual channel at all? We have almost same proc/ram combo/PSU and I was curious if you had an issues. To this day, on my 3rd UD3R, I can only run single channel memory and I don't have the money/time to RMA this board.
here are my new update with water Q9650@4,2ghz

Hi Panging, I don't post in this thread for a while because I play around with P5Q -Deluxe , but eventually I 'v been sold it and buy new UD3R Rev 1.1 ,and wanna share quiet stable result ,one thing that I think this is the really great for this board is it can do PL 9 with FSB 550 1:1 Dram that It cannot possible with P5Q Deluxe even boot up. :D then get the great score on EVEREST! and Winrar Extraction without CRC Error.
I feel that 550 FSB doen't need high VTT like I setting it only 1.20
If I set it over around 1.24-1.26 It 'll become CRC error on WINRAR Extract with unknown reason:confused:.
And anyway I still don't know why I can't OC well with my Ud3P??
very nice BuGjAE!
clo007,have you tried a new set of ram?i mean a set that you havent tried on the previous three boards.cause i cant believe you have had such bad luck as to get three boards with the same problem.i know you have tried several kits of ram,but have you bought and tried a brand new kit.i can send you my cheap ddr2-800 g.skills that work great on my new board, they OC to 1066 with ease.no charge.i'll give them to you.just pm me your shipping info.if your interested.it's this kit in the link below.

LMK ok.
kagula, I just got done stress testing this setup. Temp in room with PC is at 27C right now...How do my temps look for this setup. Do I have a hot or cool chip? Time to shoot for 8.5x500 for some better performance. I still haven't taken memory out to check what chips are used...too afraid! LOL
http://img42.imageshack.us/img42/1360/8x5001200pl8.jpg
Put my old 8400co in, Batch#Q745A357. Much better than the eo I just got. 1.225vid cpu. Had to use 200d, don't have any 4gb kits that will do 1200.
yes indeed,thats pretty damn good.:D
Thanks radaja, was hoping for a dual core that would let me run 4.4-4.5ghz 24/7 but don't think its going to happen. I have no idea what the temps are on this Co, at idle both cores read 20c no matter what voltage. I adjusted the temps in real temp to show 32c idle, they do go up evenly but without the adjustment they only hit 40ish in Linx under load. I know it isn't correct but best I could do to estimate the temps.
People! I could achieve 4ghz 471x8.5 with 1.37500vcore (bios) 1.344 cpuz, and lowering!
But I would like to know what you thing about LOAD LINE CALIBRATION (LLC), because I got it Enabled.
Later I will show you my settings.
And... OC NUB thanks for your help, there was others users who helped me, thanks!
The problem was on the COMMAND RATE, it was auto = 0 in my settings, so trying to do something else I have changed it for 1 and just like magic It got stable.
Nice Osterman, congrats!
I use LLC also
Those are the settings now:

If it is working don't fix it, but normally the MCH reference should be 1 or 2 notches up from the cpu reference. With 1.20v CPU termination I set the CPU reference to .760 or .785 and the MCH reference to .800 then raise the CPU termination as needed.
So I should put CPU REF on .760 or .785 and MCH REF on .800, and then reise vtt without thouching those REF settings??
And always keeping mch ref 1 or 2 notches over cpu ref..
??
Put the new e8400 back in, running orthos at 4.4ghz. Voltages are high but temps are good considering the amount of vcore Im using . Really want a 4.4-4.5ghz cpu for daily use even if its short lived lol. Will work on getting vcore down later.
Same here, I use LLC too
Got a sub 10 sec pi

Hello All,
I have been running at 4 GHz for a couple of months now with out any issues.
Recently when powering on from a cold boot, the system will crash at the loading windows screen and then load the default BIOS settings.
When I go into the BIOS the red dialog box will be there stating that the BIOS isn't stable.
Can you please help me figure out these issues?
My systems specs are in my signature.
I have posted my Template below.

Hi BuGjAE, nice to see you here again
i never owned or used any UD3P board but i assume the 2 boards UD3R and UD3P is about the same in terms of overclocking ability,
i think your new board probably worked better than your previous one.
Thanks xzulu.
anyways, here's my current max CPU-Z validation on Q9550 4726.25 MHz (556.03 * 8.5) Air true / EP45-UD3R / DDR2 G.Skill 8800 Pi 4x2GB

Nice coop!
Coop,very nice score:up:
pangingIII,awesome OC on your 9550:D
well i took matters into my own hands.instead of waiting to buy a new true,i
figured out how to mount
my mini-typhoon on my cpu.i had to file down the corner, cause it was hitting one of the capacitors
(it mounts from corner to corner).but it paid off:D
15c-20c drop in temps:up:
this exact same OC,the temps were hitting 65c-67c and i had to stop it.
but now as you can see temps are great
http://i39.tinypic.com/2lapno8.jpg
i might be able to run LinX or IBT now, maybe:rolleyes:
Nice temps radaja.
Was able to get vcore down a bit. Just before posting this I got a bsod at 8hrs 5min Ortho's while opening everything up to take a ss . Took this ss earlier this morning.
thanks.i kept putting off modifying the mini-typhoon cause i never thought i would get these kind of results.
when i had the intel stock cooler with the 92mm 4500-4700RPM fan on top blowing directly down,i didnt think
the little extra surface the mini-typhoon had would make much of a difference, but it's all copper and has six
pipes,so i guess it really does make alot of difference.
by the way nice OC
Great job PangingIII with your 9550.
well heres a comparison with my new cooler setup.
the first one i had to stop at 8m cause the temps hit 67c
http://i41.tinypic.com/2v9u6qa.jpg
and now it never goes above 50c:D

Doesn't look like you even need the Ultra 120.
nope.:D
thats exactly what i was thinking.
xzulu, oc nub, radaja, thanks. It used to take twice as long even with dry ice for 32m. I did that so many times,
I think it did something to me:nuts:
radaja, that is a great relief I'm sure. excellent payoff for a little work. pangingIII, really nice job.
What is the maximum voltage you guys feel safe using for MCH 24/7 use? Im at 1.340v ATM but will need more to go any higher than 4.4ghz. I use this PC mainly for gaming. What doesn't make any sense to me is at under 1000mhz using 200d pl9 I wouldn't think it would need much MCH voltage on ram rated for 1066.
That'd be sweet man. I will send you my info. If they work, I will give you some coin for them. If they don't, i'll ship them back.
I have tried 6 different sets of ram...2 sets of ballistixs, 3 sets of gskill, and 1 set of Corsairs. I honestly am not sure what the deal is.
I may just need to RMA this board again. It is really odd though. Dual channel won't work at all, but I can run single channel and overclock the hell out of my processor. I have got it up to 4.6ghz on air...not prime stable but I gamed on it for 2 hrs.
I like the board, I like the overclockability of it and I really like my set-up. I however want to get my 4 gigs going and I really don't want to do a complete reinstall again.
if you have a fan on the NB,i would think that up to 1.40v would be fine for 24/7.i have mine at 1.36 for 9x500@4500 ddr1200 5-5-4-12-30 pl8.
well this cpu is definetly great.9x500@4500 w/1.32v:up:

Yeah I have a fan right on it, so should be ok.
Looks like the typhoon is pretty damn good! Thats an awesome chip you have there.
I took my 8400 out and will try it in my p35 mobo to see how it does compared to this.
which P35 do you have?
Hey guys, I am doing a build for a friend of mine based on EP45-UD3P.
Specs:
Mobo: EP45-UD3P (updated bios to f9)
CPU & Cooling: E8400 (E0), Ultra120 Extreme
RAM: 4gb Mushkin (996580) DDR2-800 4-4-4-12 (the kit have been already tested in my build)
PSU: Enermax Pro82+ 625W
Sound card: Auzentech X-Fi Prelude
GPU: GTX260 216sp
Case: Cooler Master HAF932
Drives: 1x Raptor 150 (OS Drive) on SATA2_0, 1x 320gb seagate on SATA2_1; DVD Drive on SATA2_5
OS: Vista Ultimate 64bit SP2
Mouse & kboard: Logitech g5, connected through g15
There seems to be couple of problems:
1) The system does not detect X-Fi Prelude (tried both PCI slots). When installing drivers there is a messege saying 'multimedia adaptor is not found' (something along these lines).
I've updated bios to F9 through windows using gigabyte utility; loaded optimized default settings. As mentioned the card is not recognized in both PCI slots.
2) One time I got a blue screen which mentioned USB devices (dont remeber the exact name of the error now).
3) I've pluged out the Prelude and decided to test for stability. OCCT 3.1 linpack test blue screened after a couple of minutes.
All tests were made on stock clocks, the bios seem to set vRAM a little low at default (1.8v), so I did change it to 2.0v (default for this kit).
4) I've noticed that the bios lowered the multi to 8.5, so that I had to set it to 9 manually.
My ideas:
1) it seems to me the I might have to mess around with PCI IRQ settings or IDE/AHCI settings (?).
2) Trying appling voltages manually for cpu, ram, nb & sb. Disabling all energy saving/throttling options.
3) Leaving only one stick of RAM, 1 HDD & DVD drive and gpu only. Trying to flash bios one more time (not through windows this time around). Maybe even OS reinstall... Basically - possibly spending loads of time.
I hope you can share some of the ideas and settings & help me to find out possible tricky moments with this board. :)
4.45ghz 7hour+ prime blend. Had to set MCH ref to .74 then go up to 1.30v VTT. This is way more vcore than I'm use to using but its a cool running chip, will leave it at 4.45ghz for daily use, otherwise it would end up in a drawer with a couple other less than desirable clocking CPU's.
Motopen1s, I'm sure someone with more knowledge than me in this thread can help you with the problem you're having. Looks like it will be a nice rig. BTW the bios will auto set the multi to 8.5 until you load optimized defaults or manually set it, that is normal, also set first init display to PEG in advanced bios features.
Well I dont have so much luck with my CPU, E8400 E0.
Doesnt matter what settings, its not stable in prime custom over 4,1 GHz. Seems to be the limit. thanks Radaja for your settings, but it didnt help at all.
One hint for all, dont use LLC, it generates peakes which can kill your CPU by time. These hints can go over the maximum volt allowed for the cpu.
I was able to lower vcore from 1.40 to 1.375 in BIOS. and was able to raise FSB to 510. Everest mem scores at 10435read/10847write/10821copy/50.3lat. What do you guys think of IntelBurnTest? Better to use than Orthos/Prime to check stability?
http://img269.imageshack.us/img269/4...5101224pl8.jpg
I like LinX for a quick test but never feel that its really good enough until it is minimum of 8hours Prime blend stable. I failed Prime at 8hrs 5min yesterday when I went to open CPUZ for a screen shot and again this morning at 7hrs 55min at 4.45ghz when I opened Mozilla, but surfed the web last night for hours while Prime was running. So I guess my 8hrs is good enough theory has some holes in it but that's what I did up until now. Everyone has their own method they use to feel comfortable that its stable enough.
BTW good job with your 8500.
Well I ordered mine from the Egg today. My Abit Pro seems to have gone south. I'll be using an E8400 EO and am anxious to see what my new LV Blades will pump out.
18 is # 1,your going to love your new board:D
and this thread is a great place for help,to help and just to share:up:
i cant wait to see what those LV blades can do,keep us posted:)
bluestang, ive never been to comfortable with excessive stressing.
two hrs prime95 blend/orthos blend and 20 runs of LinX/IBT tops.
and Memtest in windows 100%-200% coverage.i know some people
might say im not 100% stable, they're probably right but its still
good enough for me.as long as my computer doesnt crash( it hasnt)
with the amount of different OC's i try,i dont see why i should kill my hardware
but thats just my humble opinion and the way i feel:rolleyes:
your going to get alot of different answers about this, its really what ever
you think the answer to this question is/how stable is stable?
OC Nub and tadaja, good info and thank for the advice. BTW, how did my temps look for the IBT 20 pass?
temps look good for IBT:)
Jsunn, I would lower the PLL to 1.57 or less.
Have you made any hardware changes? I added a second gfx card for cf and my oc became unstable at the same voltages.
i didnt even notice that, good catch OC Nub.definetly lower pll to 1.57 or even 1.50
when i got my first set of cellshocks,i was afraid of giving to much vdimm, and had that same problem.i was 100% stable at 8.5x500@4250 ddr1200 pl8
it would restart just fine, but when i shut the computer off and started it it would reboot with defaults and go to the red OC failure screen.if i set pl to 9 it worked fine but to keep it at pl8 i had to raise the vdimm.after that it cold started everytime fine.
I noticed that everest and cpuid HW Monitoring programs read the Ram voltage at 2.06v when set to 2.10v bios, raised it to 2.12v and reads 2.08v. I remember reading a post, think it was by Jor that this board undervolts the ram.
