Well, I did remove the CPU... Re-installed it, but still, no go.
My board isn't posting at all... Stucked on DET DRAM on the LCD POSTER.
I will RMA it...

0902 test results?
0902 flashed and nothing changed. The cpu multis are shown as "9.0" ect. instead off "9", because of the new "x.5" multis but that`s only optical for users without that supported cpus. Performance is the same with same settings in everest cache bench and settings ran 30minutes OCCT without an error. It`s not a long test but when nothing changed in performance, the settings should be as stable as before I think and I want to play sth. now and have no time for a long test now :)
has anyone had problems with
DDR2 800 Crucial Ballistix Ram ????
Anyone got a PCI card in the first slot (aboce gfx card) ?
I need to run a X-Fi in this slot, but how am i gonna do this ?
Hey Guys, me again. My SE will be here sooon. Can't wait. I wanted to get more info on the memory subject. I know couple of you guys recommended me the Crucial Memory and it look good. I just wanted to let you guys know that I plan to put 2GB on each slot of SE. So when my new system is finally up and running, it will start at 4GB of System Ram and Add more later if needed. So I don't want to put in Single 1GB sticks. I plan to get 2GB Single Stick.
The Asus SE supports the following right - PC2-5300, PC2-6400 and PC2-8500? So when I am shopping for Ram, What THINGS do I need to look at when buying Ram. What's the HIGGEST BUS can I get on my Ram anyway? I know the board supports 1333MHz Officially and goes up to 1600MHz. So if you guys can comment of this, it would really help me find the best and Good priced Ram for my system.
Also I have been using Kingston and Mushkin Memory in my current system. Do they have good Ram for the SE MB. If you guys can, please give me some other Manufacturer that I can look at. Once again thx for all the help guys and I will let you know when I have the SE in my Hand.
THX,:)
P.S. Fusion:welcome:
To remove the NB and SB, coudnt u just run a few hours Prime to heat it up and then turn it off and try to remove it asap? I find it abit risky using a hairdryer as it could warm up some other components from the board, as it can get nasty hot with a hairdryer.
Well if preferable is you could pop it off when getting the board out of the box, the more you use it, the more it seems to stick, seems there some bonding action going on there, I covered my board with newspaper to avoid extra heat to be blown on the surrounding components....
Just installed bios 902
EXACT same settings as bios 802 and pc wont boot.
EZ Flash wont let me revert to 802 when it used to revert to prior bios
Anyone else in my boat or am I the lucky winner today?
Seriously tho anyone with ideas on the problem?
You'll have to use AsusUpdate in Windows on another Dos based flasher to flash back...
Yes onboard disabled, same with onboard controller and firewire, just leaving the two Gbit Lans enabled.
Maybe it has something to do with using both PCIe Ports ?
Just tried Amiflash, says is dosent support my bios, grrr
off to google
F@%king Asus , I'm on the phone right now.
The pos tech guy is telling me my ram is bad.
I am trying to tell him the problem just started after I flashed to bios 902.
He still saying ram, problem is it works and passes memtest in another pc
Explain to him you know the ram isn't bad, that it worked previous to flashing and as such should be fine 10mins after flashing. They're crap, they read from scripts so half the questions any half wit computer user could ask, they still don't have answers for! :(
This is really frustrating, he wants to rma the board, all I need is to revert to bios 802.
I live in canada and I have to send it to the us, fork I'll be 30 + days b4 I get a new one
Must be a way to flash back
Had a similar prob downgrading from 802 under ASUS Update - remedied using easyflash utility in bios.
oh :banana::banana::banana:, this is not good. I think I'll stick with 0901 for now. Maybe try to go back to 0602 since flashing an old BIOS seems to be such an excercise. Keep us updated Grnfinger, plz!.. Also, it's very curious that we have access to ASUS FTP for the latest and greatest. All I can think of them saying on the other side of the phone when they ask what BIOS you're using and you say 0902, and they say, "Sir, there isn't a 0902 yet, not on our website, where did you get it?" D/L with extreme caution I say! Translate those dancing bananas as S.H.I.T.
http://esupport.com/techsupport/award/awardutils.htm
Try the AMI Flash app there?
EDIT: This one, http://esupport.com/techsupport/utils/FLASH867.EXE , in particular?
I get "bios not supported" then the window closes
Is it possible to edit the 802 bios somehow to change the date so I can flash using ez flash?
I was just looking in to that for you. I'll try to get something done, but it won't be until tomorrow as I'll need to source the right apps.
Don't worry dude, we'll not have you undoing that whole water setup just because Asus can't code a decent bios!
Ok, slight update. Try an older version of AsusUpdate. Just been reading a similar problem elsewhere and the guy downgraded to version 6.6 of the AsusUpdate I think, and it worked...
Thats great news
Really apprieciate the help, I was begining to think I was s.o.l.
You are the man!!!
I happend to have a A8N disk and installed Asus Update 6.0 beta and the little bugger worked.
Back to 802 bios and running smooth again :D
Thanks again for the help, you saved me alot of work and frustration.
Now to call Asus and shat all over someone
guys the only way to flash back is to boot into dos with a floppy
then use the OLDEST version of AFUDOS you can find..
I've had this issue with my last ASUS board.. and its the ONLY way possible!
More than a pleasure, good sir! Glad I could help you out. I know Asus are :banana::banana::banana::banana:es for bad bios files and that they will always just try to replace the board rather than help, so I couldn't have that!!! :D
Or use the way that we just used above?
Does 0902 fix the temperature problem?
What's up with this?
Maybe your version of Everest, check bottom copyright?
There are actually parts of the chipset that still calls it Bearlake... Everest finds a few of them. I guess this shows the chipset is a direct evolution of the P35 chipset?
I didn't have any trouble going from 0802 back to 0505 using ezflash.
the X38 is still bearlake.

So where does Beechwood come in to it then? Now I'm confused? Or is Beechwood the name for the specific x38 chipset?
got me I get nothing on the search results

Try this:

Note: Beachwood
It was a short on the mobo caused by the mounting bracket for the Ultima90 cooler. I pulled off the cooler, inspected the mobo where the hold down screws pass through the board, and noticed some exposed copper where the mount rubbed against the board (note to self... in the future, totally remove those mounts before you try to release and pull out the CPU). Cleaned everything with 99% Isopropyl alcohol, put some tape under the Ultima90 mount where it touches the board, put everything back together, fired it up and no more problem.
I was just about ready to do an RMA on the board.
Hooray, I will sleep better tonight (and apologize to my wife for my surly behaviour over the past 24 hours).
Now, back to the OC. Thinking of lapping the Cooler and CPU to resolve the one overly hot core (6 degrees C hotter than the other three)- picked up some 400 and 1200 grit paper from Lordco.
Lapping is the next thing on my list of things to do, too. Got the TRUE to lap, my Q6600, an E6850 and a cheapy silent yet efficient CoolerMaster heatpipe heatink to lap!
I'm hoping it'll lower the temps right across the board and give me some more headroom for a few 100 more MHz?!
Finally managed to "boot" with 475 FSB... Here are my settings:
PLL: 1,72V
VNB: 1,65V
VMEM: 2,15V
VFSB: 1,60V
I'll try to lower each setting to see what is the limiting factor
Hey!
I`m probably gonna buy this board, but what is the difference between the SE and the normal version? (the led etc and watercooling?)
Also what kind of 3dmark scores can I expect from this:
Q6600 G0
Team xtreme 4 gb ddr2 pc-6400
Corsair 450 watt
Sapphire HD3870
Maximus Formula
?
I still have huge voltage drops even with these bios, Check it. My Memory went under 1.0 volts

Anyone out there who can help me with my X-Fi not working in first PCI Slot (above gfx) ?
Use Everest. In the Everest Preferences you can setup which sensor information it can send to other applications. And in OCCT pick Everest and setup the sensors. Just make sure Everest is always open before OCCT or OCCT will lose it the settings for monitoring... :(
What is changed in 0902 bios?
ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/mb/so...ula/MF0902.zip
I'm prime stable here with qx9650 at 4400mhz 1,5Vcore under liquid, anyone have this cpu with this mobo?
Haven`t got that voltage drops when runnintg OCCT, but ionly with a C2D, perhaps, it`s a quad problem!?
Or your board, or psu?
I'm on a Quad and I don't get the voltage drops...

0902 BIOS?
Sorry I don't read all posts. I don't seem to have all these problems. I just really look to make sure new BIOS are good before I flash. And try to give some advice when I can.
Warboy,
so you are reading out the voltages with a program?
Wouldn't trust this a 100%, so relax.
Oscilloscope anyone? :D
is there any bios setting that need to be set for crossfire to
work on this mb
thanks
Good point, but thats why i want everyone to try it. If its the program, Everyone will get the same problem. I've already thought through it ;)
I'm telling OCCT to read volts and temps from Everest. So everyone that has everest, and OCCT Beta. See if you get these same problem on any X38 board.
Components: ASUS Maximus Formula, Intel QX9650, Corsair Dominator PC8500, Western Digital Caviar 320GB, Sapphire 3870 (2), Enermax Galaxy 1KW, Dell 3007
I put all this together yesterday, and am having very strange problem. I can only describe it as trying to watch a DVD on your tv, with the tv on channel 4 when it needs to be on channel 3. The display is split in half horizontally, with either the bios or desktop displayed in both the top and bottom sections. The display flashes in and out, and is striped vertically with pink and white stripes. I got it to go away only on the desktop by cranking the resolution up. But the bios still does it. The problem was there with the shipping bios 0401 I think, and is still there with 0901 (latest?)
I have installed all chipset drivers and VGA drivers, even did a new install of XP, and am stumped on what to do next.
@GunslingerOCS: So you are using both PCIe x16 slots and a sound card, which slot above or beneath gfx card ? I didn`t tried the slot beneath yet because my Raid controller gets real hot and i don`t want to heat it up even more by putting another card under it. Fact is i can`t get my X-Fi to work in the first PCI slot, can you ?
Warboy, I use Everest, OCCT and as you know I'm on an X38 and I don't get the problems at all.
I haven't ever had the massive fluctuations like you have...
Oops that sound card is in my 680i rig, I'm using included top PCi slot with bundled card for now. Will edit sig
Here's my quick test for reference. I'm running 4x1GB (mixed bag of DOM. 8500s and Team Xtreem 6400s @ 1080MHZ. Vdimm is set to 2.2v in bios.
PS: Test took about 2:17 minutes. Bios version is 0902.
@warboy
I don't have the v fluctuations either. Its pretty consistent within my OCCT graphs. I do remember this happening back in my Opteron 165 days with my DFI board/smart guardian. All I did was unplug the 24pin connector and plug it back in. Sounds too good to be true but try it?
Damn, so anyone who`s using both PCIe x16 slots AND using a different soundcard than the one from Asus, could you pls check if the card is working in the top PCI slot ? I have to get this damn thing to work :)
iceman, for some reason, i remember reading that there were compatibility issues using that top slot with other cards. i guess it's "allocated" for the factory sound board. not positive though!!!
how do you use everest + occt to draw graphs? which version of everest? i can't make the version of everest i have (4.10.1091 Beta) work with the latest occt beta (1.2.0b06), that's why i'm asking. i do not know what i may be doing wrong. any comments appreciated.
Anyone using 0902? If so hows it working?
Unfortunately my highest stable FSB appears to be just 450 with my QX9650 and with my Q6600 G0 I had to push 1.76 vNB and 1.75 for vFSB in order to get 470 fsb stable.
Im not sure at this point if its the chip with a CPU ceiling or the mobo regardless im running at 4.8ghz with a multi of 12 and shes nice and stable with some decent scores with my 8800gt.

Oh for the love of Christ. Just flashed to 0902. The 266 strap is STILL broken. Honestly, what's it going to take to get this fixed? Tried relax set to 0 and 1 and it still won't boot. Just sits at DET DRAM. This board is just awesome, but for crying out loud just fix it already.
On another note, any previously saved OC profiles will not work in 0902. When I tried to load mine, it would just cause the BIOS to reset to defaults.
Asus really can't seem to get a decent bios nowadays. The new bios for the Striker Extreme is the same, newer bios, more bugs, less overclock and more headaches! :(
does anyone here use the software that came with the mobo ? I ordered it today (260$) :) and seen that it came with extra software. I am so glad this has a power on/off button.
Hopefully Bios's mature , until then I'm problably only going to run 2.8GHZ :P
Well I just gave this board another OCCT RAM 475MHz FSB run...with a North Bridge load temp of 29*c!!! It still failed, even with 1.75v vNB, 1.7v vPLL and 1.65v vFSBT! :(
I got my 115cfm Vantec Tornado out for nothing! :P Looked good though, strapped to the North Bridge! :D
What's the highest dram frequency on can obtain with this motherboard? I hope over 500MHz
A lot of people run their ram @ 600MHz, async from the FSB.
Is there a switch for afudos that allows you to force it to update an older bios?
I had an older but it said something about boot block.
