These are the last words about the absolute PWM temps, but we still have to pay attention and care about the relative temps. If the temp increases or decreases, no matter their real value, we know that we have worse o better system cooling. Our interest is to lower temperatures over the stock heatsink. Pay and install, reinstall and rereinstall to have higher temperatures is a bad deal.

well, yes and no...if your cooling the MOSFETs behind the inductors and this temp increases, it likely has less to do with the MOSFET cooling and more with your ambient temp in your room or time your system has been running that heat has built up from the whole system. this sensor is no where near your MOSFETs and to use it to draw any conclusion about cooling on the MOSFETs is a little naive. think of this PWM sensor as just another MB sensor which again, is better for judging case temps at those specific locations on the MB and not any single component or the ability of the cooling to any single component. i wouldn't be surprised at all if going from naked MOSFETs to water cooled MOSFETs produces little to no change on this temp sensor in a normal system setup.

IMO, CPU temps would have more impact on this sensor than anything since it is by far a larger heat source than the MOSFETs and just as close to it as they are. the heat transferred from the CPU socket to the MB is responsible for more heat on the MB in the socket area than anything. again, just my opinion so take it for what it is worth based on my logic which is heavily flawed most of the time anyway ;)

haha...well, dears Watsons...in another exercise of possible flawed logic, we can say that if the CPU temp remain the same between one and another measure, we can ignore their value in the experiment.
Anyway, is too much flawed to ignore the great influence that has in a surface sensor, next the socket, the CPU temp. And the super important room temp, the universal enemy.

I figured it was in that area Mine are black also. The question is 3oh6 What did you have to do to get a red one , ( wish i had a red one on my board)lol. Now the even bigger question How they going to make a water block that small. But seriously the inductors even on the left side of the cpu get hot. the top ones even to the left of that sensor are reading the same temp as the power sensor. I am ordering some more ram heat sinks to slap on the inductors. I had enough to to the left side but i only have only left. But it seems to have helped with the left side temp readings. It will middle of next week but i`ll post my findings with heat sinks on the inductors

i slipped the guys at the factory a 10 spot for the red one ;)

likely just a reel change during production. or they probably found a source for the same spec component from another manufacturer for a bit cheaper and switched, happens a million times during the production life of electronics going through an SMT line. i bet there are other red ones out there. of course, if mine was black, i might not have even clued into it being the sensor...the color is what initially got me thinking to take a closer look at it and the possibility it was the sensor.

about cooling the inductors, just remember that they and the MOSFETs are most likely rated up to and/or over the 100C mark. added heat sinks may do nothing at all aside from jam up the area blocking airflow...they may also transfer the heat better to airflow through your case and aid in getting the air they are warming up out so who knows either way, never hurts to try things though. will keep my eyes open for results :up:

A idiot question: Is important that the ram heatsinks that we use for mosfets and inductors cooling are electrically non-conductive? Enzotech use thermal pads non-conductive, but i too using the ones from Cooler Master, i think not so insulating.

The whole thing that started me on all this is ASUS probe gets a warning after 45c on the power sensor. Makes a hell of a noise, scared the :banana: out of my dog. Why they have it set to 45c i really dont know. Might be nothing to worry about. But i figure better safe then sorry.

hahaha, yeah i remember the first time i heard that warning...scared the beejezus out of me too. most of the ASUS warnings are set at a default that was derrived from nothing more than someone liking the number i think. i just turn all the warnings up to what i feel necessary for the task at hand...and turn that damn warning buzzer/message off.

at 45C for a motherboard sensor i wouldn't be worried at all, that just means the air temp around your socket is 45C which is absolutely no issue what so ever. i have been looking around the board looking for the other 'MB' sensor but can't find it. would be nice to know where that one was just to be able to compare the two surface sensors for air temps around the board.

I doubt it really is going to matter electricly conductive or not. The inductor tops have no electrical connections. As i said in the post i made before this one not even sure these temps are to be worried about on the inductors/ power sensor. This all goes off asus probes warning at 45c. till we can figure it out might want to save your cash, unless you have some already that you can slap on there. I found putting a 120 fan blowing on that area keeps it cooler then the 45c it is close between 41c and 44c i get under full load. Also this power sensor runs alot cooler with a dual core then with my Quad. Might be due to my quad being a 65nm

might also be more evidence to the theory that the CPU temps influence this sensor more than the MOSFETs...or exactly opposite since the PWM works a good bit harder for quads than duals :shrug:

i really wish more manufacturers used the digital PWM that was on Abit's boards as having individual on-die PWM temp sensors was sooo nice to have. mmmm, miss the joy my Quad GT brought me back in those days...such a monster at SPi 32M in its time.

First off what CPU you running cause if it is a quad core your going to have to be very very very lucky to get that ram to run @ 2000Mhz. Even with a dual core i know quite a few people that cant get stable at 1600Mhz. So post your CPU and what kind of ram you have and you might have better luck getting some help

This Board have Problems with 2x2GB.
I have 2x2GB CSX Diablos the max RAM Frequenz was 1700 MHz with 7-7-7-21 1T, Strap 400 with 1,64V NB.
My Friend with the same Components have the same Problem.
We wait or a new Bios.
Thats a problem from this Board, with 2x1GB you have no Problems.
Our CPU´s are E8600.

We have call Compustox, they said thats a problem with the X48 Chip.
We must wait for a new Bios.
Wenn i go over 405 FSB and the dividier was at 1:2 i have no boot or becomes Errors.
At a GB P45T Extreme the Rams work 8-7-6-15 2T at 1780 MHz with the 1:2 dividier.
With the 3:5 dividier it works at RAM 1800 MHz prime stable are not Game stable.

Hi Vega22, any chance of a picture ?. I have the same H/S and would like to explore after market N/B coolers. Did you have to remove the complete heatpipe assembly to fit the HR-05 or does it sit in place of the fusion block ?.

Of course. The PWM must runs cooler with a dual than a quad, no matter if it´s 45nm or 65nm. The quad need many more watts in the PWM.

One note: the PWM in the next I/O area runs always alot hotter than the PWM in the another area. This must be due to the sequential power-on of the power phases :shrug:
One thought: the industry invented the dual and quad because it was impossible to continue increasing the frequency in a single processor without burn for heat. After three months struggling with the heat, first in a Maximus II Formula, then at P45 Extreme, and finally at the RE, i am convinced that once again we are coming to the same problem. Until that manufacturers start to sell the boards with a powerfull stock watercooling system and the design of the chassis change revolutionary, the upgrade in search of more and more power/speed is doomed to be a constant pain because the heat problems.

on single channel its all ok but dual channel i have this problem how can i fix it ??

Look at the Home Page from CSX.
They work with a X48 Chip at 1866 MHz.
2000 MHz was on a Nforce Chip.
