Maybe next weekend for me. My knockout punches didn't show up from Harbor freight, so I was limtied on what I could do. I did mod one drive cage to mount the drives backwards and created a new power cable for the three HD's.
What is the advantage of mounting the PS upside down? I've seen that in several pics. Is it just to get the cables closer to the back wall of the case?
Yes, and also to have the PSU sit upright, the way it would be if mounted at the top of the case. Not only does it allow the stickers/labels to be read properly, but also vents the hot air from the PSU outside of the case, rather than inside.Quote:

I just built my first pc using this case and an 850w Antec Quattro.
My question is for anyone who is using the Antec 900 with either the tpq-850 or tpq-1000.
I have seen it mounted right-side up like in this picture..but that would be the correct position if it was a top mount psu. When it is mounted like the picture there are two vents that will be covered up.
So basically I am wondering if anyone knows which way is better? Here's my dilemma... I mounted it upside down so that the little vents are facing upwards but this means that cables are coming out on the door side of the case making management much more difficult. I would like to have it the other way but I feel like having those vents covered up might be bad.Quote:

It looks so much better that way though because the labels are right-side up and the wires come out on the side closest to the mobo. Only issue I'm thinking is those vents were designed for a purpose and I don't know what I should do lol.
We just cut a hole in the bottom... no covering up :yepp:

Will likes his case to breathe easily, so he 'upped' his entire case (with those awefull plastic cheap-ass feet :rofl: ) but mine has to work a little harder and suck for life :ROTF: (I didn't up my case, but I am confident it is breathing within standards because I accidently covered it up one time and believe me, you will hear that :D )

i think this side vents putting down on this way , don't affect the psu ! on this way mounted you got better CM :up:

I havent really read through this entire forum but am wondering if anyone has a thermalright ultra 120 extreme with the mounted parallel with the floor? In other words so that the airflow through the fins go's up instead of through the rear of the case... I have it like this because I figured it would be better to get the airflow going toward the largest fan instead of the smaller rear case fan.
Also heat rises. Unless I'm missing something I don't know why more people aren't doing this.Quote:

Well heat rises slowly. I actually tried this with both my Infinity and my TRUE. In both cases, the verticle position always seem little cooler, (2-3C), contrary to what I expected at the time. In my case, I related it to a smoother air flow from the top mounted drive bay fan ---> HSF ---> Rear_Case_Fan. I also removed the grill behind the case fan.Quote:

I've since managed to file the hole in the side window into something a bit more round! Had to cut my own new panel so the TRUE 120 could fit with 3 fans in-line.

It's not much compared to the work some of you guys have done, but I wanted to share the way I've done the dust filters in my case (because otherwise the nine hundred is a total dust magnet!).
In each of the drive cages, there are six points to hold the drives away from the fan - you can also rest a dust filter on these, but traditional ones won't fit. You could try and put them in front of the fans but it's a squeeze and takes a lot of unscrewing to remove them for cleaning.

Instead, I cut a reinforcement from some plastic packaging, and stapled filter fabric for the back. Originally they were square but I had to cut them narrower to fit in the drive cage.

The filter then fits in position. It's quite easy to remove, just unscrew the drive cage, slide it forward and pop off the fan assembly. The plastic/staples combo is waterproof so it's easy to wash.
For the side intake, a normal pre-bought fan filter should do the job if you screw it to the back of the fan.

Hello, great thread here, very inspiring. I'm planning to apply some of the ideas for cable management in this thread to my 900 case. Just looking for where to get one of the PSU extension cables.
I am looking for one of these that was posted in this thread:
I checked my usual source for PC parts Newegg.com, but they seem to only have 4 pin extension cables. FrozenCPU or ebay didnt seem to have it either. So it's sort of a two part question, firstly can I just use two of the 4 pin extensions? Or, if not where can I find that 8 pin extension for the CPU EATX12V power slot? Thank you.Quote:
