...or you can get yourself another two of those and have three on a single card...

Possibly... but i really have no room on this 'thing' which is supposedly a 'desk'. :shakes:
Maybe in the future as i'm stretching to buy a card for over £200 anyway.
i'm about ready to upgrade from my old 4870X2.
i'll probably wait until wednesday for the full picture, but i'd just like to buy a single core card that can push decent framerates at 2560x1600 with eye candy enabled
Interestingly, there are no memory chips on the back supposedly, so they're using 2Gbit chips...
I saved many of the slides posted at few forums.
Here is a slide showing both HD 6950 & HD 6970 with 2GB GDDR5. Probably it's still true.
http://img522.imageshack.us/img522/6585/fot006.jpg
That slide only shows ram amount 2GB , we already knew that , talk is about new revelation , 6970 using new high density 2Gbit chips.
Maybe "Elpida 2-Gigabit GDDR5" Link

So the TDP limit thing only really kicks in when the power draw goes over the default TDP in certain situations? i.e. only things like furmark, perlin noise, occt gpu test; overly stressful progs etc?
There seems to be some idea going about that it does it in all circumstances. :shakes:

Staff... you got to give me this one... :D I really want to rip this one apart, limb to limb, and then some :P and then some more :D
Seriously dude... you want to buy something, buy it. But answer this...
Does Nvidia cards support 6 monitors?
Does Nvidia cards support 7.1 HD audio over HDMI?
No?
Then why troll?
Will these amazing power features (if true) be an indication of what's coming with Zacate/Ontario, Llano, Zambezi, Interlagos, Valencia and the other half a dozen or so products AMD will probably release if it keeps up at this rate?
Dude you listed two features one of them requires major Crossfire to be useful for games, and you have the nerve to call me a troll. And 7.1 audio over HDMI realy ? there is so many more ways to get audio, your points are laughable. Its equvalent of saying does your card have a green sticker ? no then why buy it.
Oh and keep that warning for your self.
Edit:
Do you even have 6 displays and 7.1 Speaker setup
 :ROTF:
Yes, you'd get audio, but when i have 8 odd terabytes with HD media all over it... i'd want lossless audio over to my receiver. Monitors, i can add more, but should i have to buy a new card, if i needed then? You see this guy below me making my point... Read it slowly, if you will and try to comprehend it. You buy what offers you more value. What is valuable to you may be :banana::banana::banana: to others and GTX580 is precisely that,:banana::banana::banana: in India where it gets bloody hot (47 Degree Celsius)! Did you see me recommending any card here? Most of us here are trying to help people make an educated and informed choice.
Thanks for proving my point mate!
Not sure why would you direct that comment at me, never told you not to buy AMD if you need a specific single brand feature.
I was saying it at trolls who make it out to be something vital to everyone, like this oneAs if everyone needs 6 displays from one card , it is a very tiny nich market. Same for 7.1 speaker setup over Graphics card HDMI port.Quote:

Random gamer out of the box will have more benefit from PhysX and 3D gaming. If you go by tifosi logic you could say "why get AMD if they don't have PhysX".
Then again some people don't care for any of that but very narrow feature set FPS/dollar.
Cool buy what fits your needs, now why troll and post such nonsense. You do realize exact same statement can be said to you. Or anyone else.Quote:

there is a fair bit of user preference in those things
i think physx is currently a useless pile of crap and haven't seen it do anything of use in game except for more natural looking fog
i would like the 5.1 hdmi sound output on my gtx480 to work better than it dose
currently it detects the amp as a monitor so i have a invisible monitor on my desktop that some items will open on or the mouse can wonder over to
two monitors being detected also prevents the card from down clocking correctly
cant say 3d is of any interest to me but 3 u2711 would be nice
as i said at the start each to there own
i was hopping two 6970 may have been an upgrade option for me but a second gtx480 is looking more likely
still it looks like these cards will be a decent evolution and keep some pressure on nvidia to lower prices
I vote only one cable to my receiver, so radeon is the only option. If only nvidia would see that too.
Wow it must be either coincidence that 480 owners are just damn insecure, or jerks, to not mind their own business and not be smartasses in threads.
(The 470 and 580 people are okay though, way less extremists by percentage. Maybe the lesser heat dissipation does help!:))
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm almost POSITIVE NVidia CAN pass sound via HDMI, just like the radeons can.... Been that way since the GT240 I believe. I know for a fact my lowly GTX 460 can do so.
Perhaps if you took the time to research these things, you wouldn't blindly assume such nonsense?
GTX480 did... GTX460 further branched out the ability.
Yes... NVidia can do 8 channel(7.1) LPCM via HDMI...

5.1 pcm via hdmi works on my gtx480 as i said above and while its not perfect it sounds a lot better than optical out from the mb
also the max res seems to be 1080p using the hdmi lead that came with my evga gtx480 to the dell u2711
but wasn't this thread about cayman? :)

I'm just waiting for the response from this thread when the reviews come out. It's going to be epic. :ROTF:
Monoprice is your friend when it comes to cables.
http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2
$5'ish for a 15ft cable...or is that still not long enough?
Either way, I can understand on the needing 2gb of ram considering your monitor size. That, my friend, is a valid reason for a decision.
by accident didn't see me response to you :)
I''ll repeat again what the 6970 will offer more then your beloved nv580
cost less with probably only few fps less in some games which will never be noticable
2GB ram
less power consumption, so cheaper in the long run
3 monitor setup out of the box (yes we ship 25K units a year like that so I love it that ATI brings that to the plate, only need 1 gpu now)
2 displayport + 1 hdmi + 2dvi got to love the choice without required conversion.
able to combine with APU in the near future for free for enhanced performance.
better cf scaling then SLI
or yours when you see nv is dropping 50$ on the 570 and 100 on the 580 because of competition... but then you'll be no where anymore in this thread...
comments are epic depending on what anyone would expect of a card.
I expect slightly higher 5870 perf with much better dx11 performance with power consumption under controll, very sure i will be right and it is the right card just in time ready for the next shrink to increase perf and size while nv needs the shrink for powercontroll and size controll, that is the opposit and not so bright future of nv.
I'll rephrase as good as sli scaling :), since nv fanboys have been crying out loud for years that it was better then cf...
From Anandtech forums (scaling performance excl. 6870):

Oh I'll be here don't you worry.
Actually most likely I'll buy a 6970 since I'm going 3-monitor eyefinity next and eventually go crossfire too. Still I don't have delusions about GTX 580 class performance for GTX 570 price or 100$ price drops. AMD will price these according to performance. :yepp:

The secret of the AMD 6900's second switch
Quote:
Easy enough, it swaps the shader count. The 'normal' count is 1920 for a 205W 6970 card, and the switch opens up the full force of all 2520 shaders. The reason this switch is set to 'low' is that between the clock speed advances, 730MHz/1920 shaders to 920MHz/2520 shaders, it blows the card through the 300W cap for PCIe cards.
Hahahahahahahhaha :D:D:D
It's a joke. Check the end of the article

whoa!
I was going to wait for 6970 to compare it to 580 before i make a purchase but after some research i have found out that GTX 580 does not support bit-streaming pass-through for Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD Master so its 6970 all th way. Whats the deal with that? the 460's have it
Also you dont need 7.1 for good audio, 5.1 is enough with a good setup.
Headphones + simulated surround sound FTW! :D
Cmon how come there's not more tests/results of these cards by now...
haha love the charlie article :D
funny thing is that people who claim that unlocking SPs is possible will take it as a source and simply ignore that it's a joke...
That picture is biased, fake or whatsoewer regarding GTX 570 performance
Look at Crysis Warhead, i underline with red:
http://forum.lab501.ro/attachment.ph...0&d=1292304389
GTX 570 25FPS ???
And like a dream 6970 beats in all games, regardless the resolution, i don't think so...
No!

Ahh...yeah.....NO.
All reviewers test their cards differently, in different areas of the game. Perhaps they just tested a more graphically intensive scene?...you don't know that.....do you?....it obviously isn't safe to compare different benchmarks even though they use the same settings.....results differing from other ones could mean anything......like I said before, it's inconsistent because they could have gone into a more graphically intense area.....and what about the hardware that they use? the CPU, ram? Drivers? OS?
Nice try at pulling a fast one though, but it won't get by me.
That's total bull:banana::banana::banana::banana:. I just red the offical review:Quote:

If 6950 is close to GTX 570 and is at $299, I will impulse buy or otherwise...
So I guess we're going to get cayman sucks or cayman rocks threads on the 15th onward
How come we don't have any sold benchmarks a day before launch??? is it still under NDA?
Yes, indeed. Tomorrow everything will change.;)
A very basic calculation has come to my mind... As you know, Cypress was absolutely RAPING GF100 in Performance/mm2. Which should mean that Nvidia should have been able to increase Perf/mm2 much more than AMD did, since they started from horrible levels.
However, when you do the math...
HD5870 -> HD6970: 320mm2 to 390mm2 = 22% die size increase, 40% performance increase => 15% increase in Performance/mm2
GTX 480 -> GTX 580: Same die size = 0% die size increase, 20% performance increase => 20% increase in Performance/mm2
AMD has been able to keep up with the ratio of efficiency increase of Nvidia... and keeping in mind they have started from a much much efficient level already, this is quite a feat. Actually they had a couple of months more time to do this than Nvidia did, yeah, but still.

or did amd spank them for thier (cough) accidental 6800 serie leak so they never got any cards?
16hour or so to go.

Part from the performance, it seems that HD6970 is not out of the GTX580, but some say the driver is not perfect.
However, the price point of view, these two original houses offer a special edition are as follows
HD6970 ... 11998 元
HD6950 ... 9198 元
From the price side view, HD6970 GTX570 is indeed positioned to rival!
What's up with Lost Planet 2?!
And also how much are those 2 in US$ ?

Yes in deed but Amd's new arhitecure doesn't count for nothing?
Have you forget that is just the AVG FPS, what about min/max. Probably MIN FSP is lower at 8AA than 2AA or 4AA.Quote:
