I've had the same problem with the USB plug ins. When it says the memory running dual channel it freezes at any FSB above 399. It also freezes at the same point with any memory voltage above 2.0v. Still haven't got a USB -> PS/2 adapter but I was wondering if using the USB 1 2 or 3 nine pin USB ports will do the trick. Is the USB issue with all USB ports or just the 4 onboard? (965P-S3)

Well at least *I* know i didn't betray GB and release that beta...is there no benefit to using it anyways.
Revision 2.0 of the DQ6 has been posted!
http://www.giga-byte.com.tw/Products...me=GA-965P-DQ6
Now...how does one get hold of this mobo?...how can you tell 1.0 from 2.0?, in terms of purchasing one online?
Is the packaging marked 2.0?, will retails know and advertise as such?
The layout hasen't appeared to be altered that much, from the low res image. The IDE connector has be bent over...in line with what was done with DS3-P. There seems to be some additional power regulators added around the DIMM area...but it appears to be mostly the same.
Can anyone else offer insight into what has changed?
I played at the game of the 7 errors :)
Here you have Hi res pictures of 2.0 :)Quote:

More pics.. here :)
looks great!...they have modified the heatpipes, the plastic pushpins holding the SB/NB have been replaced with spring loaded screws. The SB now has a new heatsink underneath the mobo.
Seems to be alot of Vdroop mods to make power regulation more stable, Vcore has been increased 1.95V. Looks very positive, C2 stepping etc. The 4pin fan header at the bottom of the mobo has been positioned verticle (was horizontal), the previously black plastic CPU protection cap is now clear see through.
Has the ICS chip been updated?, what about the Intersil chips?...i knew the Marvel LAN chip would be updated from 8053 to 8056.
Damn....i want one!
Know what?...i think GB have been using a copper/aluminium hybrid for their heapipes...look at the image, the very base of the SB is a different color to the finned area.
It's like the base of the NB/SB are copper + heapipes...but the fins and the rest of the heatsiink is painted aluminium. The hetsinks covering the MOSFET's all appear to be copper.
However the new design for the SB with the new heatsink on the back of the mobo should give more support and a more rigid design and equal pressure, so as ensuring good contact between the chip and the heatsink, the screws are much better design and easier to take off.

This new board is going to be great..
PD: Richard.. do you find any performance improvement using F8c bios compared to F7??
I did a small eye comparison.. and super pi 2m, is 1.5s faster with f8c..
Guys...the four inductor coils on the DQ6 1.0 have been replaced, but what are they?
They appear to be the same those around the CPU area, what are they called?
Look at rev 2.0 for the DQ6
http://img201.imageshack.us/img201/852/dq610gc0.jpg
Now look at rev 1.0
http://img201.imageshack.us/img201/458/dq620pe1.jpg
See the bottom end of the mobo, near the Purple SATA ports..what are those three green transistors?, some of the capacitors have been moved/replaced, 2.0 Made In Taiwan - 1.0 Made In China :-)
I think its related to stability wtih quad core processors. Maybe the also did it to fix the coil noise issueQuote:

Hello guys,
I am seeking a bit of advice - I have a DS4 mobo and I've been trying to get proper core voltage readings. This seems to be one hell of a task - differerent utilities seem to report completely different results. I've set Vcore in BIOS to manual, value of 1.275V (I'm running E6400@2.8GHz), EIST, C1E, TM2 all enabled. However, CPUZ says core voltage is 1.248V, no matter whether core clock is 2.1 or 2.8GHz (it reads clocks correctly though). On the other hand, Everest reports Vcore as 1.325V@2.8GHz and 1.163V@2.1GHz. With that said, 1.325 is a 'normal' Vcore for DS4. Any suggestion which other utility to use? Or is there some explanation for Everest reporting 1.325V despite me setting 1.275V? When I used RM clock for Vcore control, Everest used to report exactly what was set in the RM Clock - but I want to avoid using RM clock. Thanks for help.

I'm really curious becouse now it seems to be a faulty DS4 board.
I have tested my X-Fi eXtreme music on another two computers and it ran flawlesly. But my DS4 seems to have same problems. It's the same with all BIOS revisions and without X-Fi the system runs fine, I tested 5 hours of movie playback and without a single skip.
It looks like the XFi is somehow overloading PCI bus or something.
Maybe someone from Gigabyte could help me?
System:
E6600, GB DS4, 2GB Kingston, X1900XT, X-Fi
System is NOT overclocked.
As mentioned ALL over the internet. X-Fi is prone to over saturated PCI bus, you can do a number of things to correct this issue (I had same problem on old motherboard, i don't have it with DS3).Quote:

Personally, I think your issue is a driver one, since you say it is ONLY in movie playback? If it was a soundcard issue it would also appear in music also. Did you make sure you have the latest video card drivers AND codecs for computer installed? I would investigate that before the soundcard.
Remove all codecs from system, reinstall the basic ones and try movie playback again.
Thats all the help i can give you.
CPUZ and ET5 are not a reliable source for vcore... you can only trust a multimeter..Quote:

You could try increasing the PCI latency level for the PCI devices in the bios. That option shows up after you have done a Ctrl-F1 on the main bios screen. You can set it from 32 up to 128.Quote:

I have problem with my system on Gigabyte DS4 board and Core 2 Duo 6600 - all at stock speed. When turnining on the comp or restarting, system powers off for a moment and then powers on again and then post and go on. Sometimes it goes at once but let say 80% is first power off and then on. System is rock stable. I had no single crash or reboot when working. I noticed it loads different bioses - sometimes it's main bios and sometimes backup. When updating bioses I have to update both of them ;-).
There's one more thing with my cordless Logitech MX700 mouse (ps2) on this system. Sometimes after system starts, on welcome screen with user listing mouse works OK, but when I click on user to login mouse freezes after user profile is loaded. I have to remove and then inserts cable to mouse ps2 port and then mouse is active again. It happens only after system start - when changig profiles later there's no such a problem.
I wonder what could be cause of these - faulty board, cpu, not compatibile memory, still early BIOS. I thought it could be incompatibile memory or early BIOS but we have F7E and problem still not solved - maybe it's faulty mobo?
Reseting CMOS, removing battery, changing bios to newer didn't help to resolve this. I tried every bioses from out of the box F2 to actual F7E and found no fix.
I also e-mailed Gigabyte support, but they only advised me to update BIOS or send them the board.
Here is my system:
CPU Core 2 Duo E6600
MB Gigabyte GA-965P-DS4 @ F7E
HDD SAMSUNG 250GB SATA II SP2504C
VGA Gigabyte NX76T 7600GT
Patriot Signature 1GB (2x512MB) PC5300 667MHz DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (PSD21G667K) (seen as PC 4200 533)
DVD-RW Pioneer DVR111
Audio SB Audigy 2
Tagan 380W U01
OS WinXP Home SP2 with all updates.
does the f8j have the cold boot issue?
Thats rather odd, the F3 was the best BIOS for me, allowed me to reach 490 FSB no problems.Quote:

Eeks - hopefully that was just bad luck that killed his DS3!
dnottis: Gotta dig that one... I have serious trouble in believing that it wasn't just bad luck, something tells me Gigabyte would test their BIOSes enough to warrant that they won't kill your mobo.
Anyhow, I think I'll be testing that one myself as my new CPU arrives from Intel tomorrow. Can't say I'm having real issues with the F8i either, except that the board only does 493FSB. :)

First Unsheathe memory module power-cable and every expansion on slots except Graphic Card then put one module on DIMM1 and try to boot
if it dosent boot try DIMM2,3,4 + CLRCMOS every time and dont forget while CLRCMOS get out power-cable and battery + short CLRCMOS Pins
if failed set one memory module on DIMM1 get out power-cable + battery and get out CPU for 10min then put it and try again
if failed again try boot with low-end Graphic like GeForce4 MX or lower
if failed again Cleanup your boards and send it to RMA and tell them that you buy a DS3 but it can boot with your CPU I hope they replace it for you (I've experience)
So who has succeeded with F8J ... come on ... I'm going to be a poor college student, so someone do it on his/her mobo

When Giga Byte will release BIOS without cold boot? :(
Not to say others aren't having issue, obviously they are, Mine has been fine with F8j and F8i at 490 as long as I don't use auto for voltage control. If I use auto then it's random whether it will boot without resetting my bios settings on me. I am manual now and it's fine with the cpu voltage I set, all the rest are auto except vdimm which is +0.3v so that it meets it's own 2.1v spec.
Readings I mentioned (1.325/1.163V) were taken from 'Computer/Overclock'. You are right, the 'Sensor' reading is in line with the CPU-z, also with Speedfan Vcore reading. These with value of 1.25V would correspond with the BIOS setting of 1.275V. The only question that remains now is whether with a BIOS setting 'Core Voltage Control' to manual the CPU/mobo does adjust Vcore according to the actual core clock. From the 'Sensor' reading it doesn't seem so. Also it seems that Vcore values from the 'Computer/Overclock' reading are just defaults from BIOS set for the clock multiplier, 8 - 1.325V, 6 - 1.163V. Do you have some suggestion on how to control the core voltage according to the CPU clock? It doesn't seem to be possible from the BIOS...Quote:

wow...I'm staying with the f8i for now...

yea still wont hold OC on a cold (few hours off) boot. Reverts.
Hey Bingo, wassup with the cold boot issue?
So the problem i noted with F8b/c beta for the DQ6 is called "cold boot"?...Gigabyte called it a watch clock timeout problem, it was only introduced in the new betas.
F7 works fine, so it's effecting all boards then...there's alot of work to be done on these bios.
Has F8j updated the JMicron bios ROM to 1.06.59?
Hate to be repeating myself but DS4 F7e has introduced problems with connected with usb devices when overclocking, which seemed to be fixed at F7b, which was not as stable though. Can't Gigabyte get it right ? They seem to fix one thing and another goes wrong. Plz don't tell me next BIOS will introduce again the X-Fi problem!!!! (which was fixed for me btw in both F7b and F7e. I had problems with X-Fi reinstalling with all previous BIOSes)
X-Fi problem is/was introduced again with F7 final for the DQ6, same goes for the F8 betas i have tried.
You also only have a gig of RAM and I doubt it's D9. That could also be contributing to your limited success.Quote:

Well my DS3 was dead. I am sending it back on RMA this afternoon. I've never done an RMA before. I wonder if they will just replace the bios chip or the whole board.
Anyway....in the mean time I have dusted off my C19-A SLI board and configured the nvidia raid 0. Funny, it could run circles around that jmicron controller, but the board doesn't OC worth a darn.
How long do GB RMA's take anyway?
Anyone here have there PC run at +350 FSB and have there memory At 3.0x??
On a DQ6..
Ok, well I've had enough of this board. I enjoyed the lack of Asus vdroop but the cold boot issue is enough to drive a sane man insane.
Overclocks great but seems like this board and the p5b isnt even of the same generation, like rev 1 vs a rev 2. The issues it has seem to be something GB just will never get a proper handle on, detachment from the community hurts. I dont understand why we dont have people from Asus and GB on these forums to get immediate feedback. We have folks from the memory companies here. I think the detachment from their own customers is what is really hurting some of these companies. Nvidia as well with the 8800 has a drive mess on their hands right now. The latest drivers cause a ton of issues but since there is no public way of filing feedback to them it's nearly impossible to get the issue recognized - ati has a nice submission program and issues that users find are resolved. I guess if I was ever brought in to consult my best suggestion would be to penetrate the user base and find out what the problems are from the users, not the in house beta testers that cannot seem to find / fix or identify a problem.
Thanks, but...Quote:

Well, I'm going to wait until the official F7 BIOS arrives and then I'm going to buy either ASUS P5B Deluxe or ASUS with nVidia 680i, but definitely NOT Gigabyte.

1. Which PLL to choose in Clockgen?
Right now I'm only using Easytune for FSB clocking and it's a bit of a pain compared to clockgen.
2. Could someone who's hitting 400MHz FSB or more post their M.I.B. bios settings because I feel a bit like I'm fumbling in the dark with some of them...
Why don't you just use a non-beta bios and wait till a final, stable bios is out to upgrade?Quote:

Sorry, I'm not sure I follow you exactly... however, typically, there is always some difference between the vCore reported in Windows (by Easy Tune, CPU-z, Everest, etc) and what has been set manually in BIOS. Whether the vCore reported in Windows is accurate or not is debatable (typically believed to be inaccurate), however it does serve as a fairly consistent guide if you always consult the same program (Everest for instance). The difference between Windows and BIOS essentially comes down to vDroop under different loads, i.e., I have 1.475v set in BIOS and 1.42v reported by Everest under load. This value fluctuates a little. When you change the BIOS setting, you should expect the same change reflected in your Windows monitoring tool.Quote:
