Lol this is one of the best CPU's around mate, can you pm that shop plz... I WANT ONE TOO !!!
Great chip kitkeman!
I hear that the q814's can do similar too!
I had my 8400 on the shelf for about a month, just pop'd it back in I cant get 4400MHz stable again on the same settings, more vcore is required, Backed the FSB to 478 and need more volts than I originally needed to run 4300MHz stable.
I did the Rampage mod, I wonder if the bios is requiring more cpu volts than the Maximus
nvm. Anyways does the e8400 perform better if used with a 8.5 to higher fsb ? Or does is have a minimal affect ?
Now trying to find the lowest voltage for my 24/7 setup, 9*400MHz.
So far, its prime95 stable @ 1.136V... going down more:cool:
hey guys Q13Axxx any good? thanks
Not mine! Q813A348 VID = 1.225, core volts for 4ghz = 1.35 (e8500)
Is that Bios setting or CPU-Z readout under load ?
Got my E8500 Q813A446 today ( Thx Nilos ) 3.6Ghz at 1.15Vcore (CPU-Z under Small FFT's load, no loadline calib or stuff on the P5K Dlx), 4ghz (9 x 450) at 1.28Vcore ( 1.3325 in bios) slightly worse than my E8400 but is about 8°C cooler

OC List updated lads
Glad to see there are some good chips in these newer batches. I don't feel as spoiled anymore with my 745.
I will certainly jump on a e8600 when they arrive in shops.
Went through many posts but what would you guys say the average e7200/e8400/e8500 OCs are/?
Leeghooft >> Why I 'm not yet in the OC list ?
anyone get a newegg 8500 in the last few days just wondering if its worth trying one more time for a e8500 my current one is a q805. i sold the q809 i had that one sucked. these newest 814's look to be very nice..
Can you give us a small FFT' screenie plz (some peeps pm'd me that it will require more voltage to be stable small FTT's then with large FFT's)
Look here, way easier :)

Hello, few days ago I post the results overclocking this e8500. Then it reach 4200mhz with 1,328v under load:
http://img148.imageshack.us/my.php?image=1604ae1.jpg
I kept as it for 24/7 and gaming and didn´t notice any degradation at all since superpi fails few times so decided to retest with prime and this is what I found:
http://img520.imageshack.us/img520/4874/1701ftm2.jpg
With the same vcore it fails in 7 minutes.. so had to give +0,02v to the nb, raise a little bit the vcore and reach stability again:
http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/7759/1702vlf2.jpg
I´m not sure if “burn-in” period already pass or I´ve to expect more degradation because just needs +0,016v to be prime stable, at least for now, is a bit messy the need of recheck time to time this cpu, probably the only way to know is keeping as it again 24/7 and see what happens.
Yup 10kfft priority 9 seems to be the ultimate cpu test for me. I also like 1 hour occt cpu test.
I'm currently priming my e8400 at the settings below. I'm curious though if running such a high fsb 24/7 will cause any corruption, data loss, instability , etc issues ? The reason I ask is because i'm able to reach the same oc of 4.0ghz while using less vcore in conjunction with the 8.5 multiplier.
Current Settings:
4.0ghz
x 8.5 multi
470 bus
1882 fsb
vcore: 1.336 ( actual load cpu-z)
cpu fsb: 1.25
spp: 1.4
mcp: auto
All GTLs: auto
These Settings require more vCore:
4.0ghz
x 9 multi
444 bus
1778 fsb
vcore: 1.352-1.36 load
all other settings are same as above
Wanted to post this up, seems VID's might jump a little...
VID CoreTemp 0.99 reads is now the same as RealTemp 2.6.0Quote:

Picked up a nice retail E8400, tested for 600FSB on dice.
Batch is Q807A191.
Air tests to follow.
Heres my 2 month old q748A e8400. I was finally able to reach the same inital oc with less vcore after going through the "burn in" period.
Original required vcore was 1.344 which seemed to be the average for this batch.

Hi! What's the maximum pll voltage for the 45nm cpu-s, that should be given without damageing the core?
Q808A477
4.1 @1.344
I still think it has some more left.
i've only been playing with the chip for half a day. still have to get my memory figured out

Just wanted to let you guys know my e8400 OC has degraded in the last 2 days. Random reboots and tonight I finally ran an Orthos Smal FFTs test and as I suspected the machine rebooted. So I took my OC down from 3.9 to 3.5 and took my voltage down from 1.35v to 1.16v. Sucks!
Any other CPUs that OC better than these damn e8400?!
I've had my E8400 at 4050 Mhz @ 1.328 for months with no problem.
I have lost all OC....I am back to stock speeds. Gay.
What was your max voltage, PLL and VTT set at, or did you leave the settings on auto? I've run mine up to 1.58v with no problems other than keeping it cool enough when benching (on air).
Have any of you tried 6.5 multi? My P5K SE cannot set this multi. I've tried 2 different bioses.
http://lh6.ggpht.com/d.hopero/SEXjrw...0/DSC00922.JPG
I set the PLL and VTT voltage at the minimum( 1,1V and 1,5V ) as you suggested yesterday and so I managed to hit 4100Mhz( 507x8 ), but its not primre stable, cause after 1H and 15 min the prime95 app stops, erery time at the same iteration. Before this it was stable at 4050Mhz,( vcore 1,36V pll 1,6 VTT 1,4 CPU, NB 1,55V GTL 61%, NB GTL 61% ). I raised the fsb up to 513, after 10 minutes the system froze as I started the fft, or Vista got deadlocked, ot threw blue death, setting the vcore higher to 1,38V didnt, but lowering that voltages you said helped a lot. But its not stable yet as i said, I tried NB as well at 1,55V and 1,4V but it didnt seemed to have an effect. I messed around with the glt references, but it didnt seemd to work. What do you think what shuld I set, or this is the endof this CPU?
mobo: p5k-e ( max fsb 540 )
cpu: e8200 (max fsb 540 I dont know maxbe it could be higher cause the mobo is off at 540 )
psu hx620
ram: ballistix 1066(1:1, cl5, blend stable 1225 with 2,35V)
cooling: TRUE+2x120mm fan
load temps : core temp 60°C, real temp 50°C( its possible that the sensor is damaged, or bad cause it dose not display any voltages under 45°C and the CPUTIN( mobo sensor) is 60°C as well, i guess the real value should be about 75°C )

Q807A253 anyone ?
The Q807A241 / A269 and A276 have been proven to be great clockers, so the A253 like you have might perform as good.
Buy it and test it, I'd say.
It's here , also SS , but Commando it's on the way. Thx for your answer ;)
Hope to work better then my Q749 , 56xx on LN2 with 1,9x v .
My new maximum clock:
http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o...vvv/4325-1.jpg
4325 Mhz, 1.4v in bios, temperature under maximum strain is 67-70 degrees.
Do you think this is safe for 24/7? I still have orthos going and will try and reach a couple of hours.
R410A instead of R507 in the SS and the cpu went straight up.....

My hands are freezing, been overclocking with my window open here, Durban tonights air temps are 10 degrees. How wonderful is that.
So overclocking time with basically my window open and trying to superPI.
I did try for 5ghz, but i think watercooling not gonna cut it. Maybe ICE water, but definitely DICE.
Will have two loops going, two separate watercooling systems on the board, two for the Chipset and PWR chip and then my cpu and gfx card. See if that helps.
Anyway here are some pics.

Wow!!!
To actually freeze your whole room and your poor hands just to overclock ...
Xtreme!!!
For the sake of the art!Well done :)
lol thats great stuff, nice try for 5ghz ;)
Lol thanks guys, yea im going to be trying for 5ghz, this whole week its going to be cold. Winter, gotta love it. I hope to at least use less volts to my North Bridge.
I find that the vtt doesnt help at all, all it does it make the overclock unstable. so i leave it at stock or just below 1.2v. I was able to run cas4 aswell which is great, having a hard time figuring out the right settings for high FSB. my ram i know can do cas4 at 1200mhz.
Would the GTL's help with a higher overclock. How would i set them at say 556FSB for 5004mhz overclock?
This might have already been asked here, but how do some of you get up to 4 GHz on so low voltage??? I have to get up around 1.45 just to stay stable at 4 and anything above that I have to hit almost 1.5. I know every chip is different, but come on. What gives?
First up is ya mobo, yours is known for bad droop/drop (never had the EP35 but in everything I read it's about the same as the predecessor)... so if you opt first for a higher specced model (PWM's) than you will need for sure less voltage... second up is the batch ( plz look in my list to compare results) : there are golden, good, average and really bad CPU's out there... try to find your batch plz...
I have had 4 different E8400's and one E8500 now... it's all about testing, some or much luck involved and good setup in bios, mobo design and good cooling and ambients...
Don't trust CPU-Z for voltage. If you have DMM it'll be usefull. I don't think that your mobo doesn't droop more (or if you had luck like me and have 0 dro(o)p out of the box on my vanilla than it's ok).
For the second, I don't think so. NB Voltage allows you better memory stability (sometimes) and for low FSB (freq) you don't have to raising the FSB Voltage.
Hello it seems like i`ve ended up with a not so overclock`able cpu, it seems that i can only get it stable at 4ghz with 1.41 voltage, the question i have is , is it safe for daily use gaming and all that or not? the temps hang around 56-60 degrees under strain. oh yea and it seems it`s default voltage is 1.225.
You will need a bios setting of 1.6v or higher to attain 4500 MHz. You will also need a very good cooling system, water preferably, or a very good heatsink/fan. Stock heatsink/fan is insufficient.
To get there, increase your voltage by 0.250v each time you have upped the CPU clock. If it is too low, it will:
1) Not load to the windows screen, add more
2) Not fully load to windows, add more
3) Load to windows, but bsod very quickly
4) load to windows, bsod when running a program
5) Load to windows, runs program, reduce volts in smallest increments until stability is decreased.
You will also have to control PLL and VTT settings if available on your MB.
Start with a PLL of 1.60v, and increase it very little.
Start with a VTT of 1.20v, and increase it slowly.
Here's the highest I've gone thus far, it's reaching 100F here regularly now... so itll be a while before I push higher clocks. Running a Maximus "Rampage" Formula, with latest Rampage BIOS.

FPO number Q812A268, my board is a Gigabyte EP35C DS3R with F2 bios verion installed, i`ve tried with F3b and F3e but the results are mostly the same, 2 GB of Corsair XMS2 6400 CL4, Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro 7 on the cpu, the ram voltage is 2.1 when oc`ed it runs 1:1 with the cpu, i don`t know what to say have I stumbled upon a very hungry CPU or am I not doing the correct changes in my bios.I must say that the PCI-EX clock is set to 100 or 90 in both ways the cpu needs 1.4 to hit 4 ghz, i don`t leave it on auto because it doesn`t start at all at that frequency, that`s about it.
well then i guess i`ll have to clock it like it is. pana crapa:D
Sa dea domnu sa nu! :D
"sa dea sa nu dea" it won`t even clock to 3.6 on stock voltage so i guess it`s a piece of... candy :D
well i don`t have to bump it that far, at 1.28 i can enter windows with it at 3800 but it`s not stable, for 3,6 it nees about 1.25.
My Q809A348 doing now 9*450MHz@1.296V at load...! :)

I think I'm definately going to buy another e8400 as my 4.0ghz vcore requirements are a bit disappointing (1.352 load). would i tbe best to buy at a local store or from newegg ?
local store depending on what there return policy is, newegg you got 7 days from invoice.
I finally got my E8400 stable at 9x450.
I was expecting worse from this batch, but I'm very happy so far with my results.

Pox,
by your temps in RealTemp, I'd say your voltage is a little too low. At 4050, mine idles around 27c realtemp. Also:
PLL 1.6
VTT 1.2
hiya ive got prob with my 8400. Ive got difference in temps on each cores... the difference isnt 2-5C but 17C! what i think couse probs with OC my chip. What can b the reason of this? Bad mounted water block?
http://img379.imageshack.us/img379/2...6510kj7.th.jpg
The ambient for me is around 27-31c, my setup normally idles around 34c, yet one of my cores shows 26c...what this means is it's a stuck sensor on idle. If I run full load of prime95 or orthos, they are identical or within 1-2c of each other.
