"Silver solder" here is one step below brazing on the temperature scale and requires the use of an oxy torch!
Now i have read this thread a bit now- so I apologize if I ask something that has most likely been asked. But basically these Sossaman rigs are very basic machines with pretty good cpus- in a sense are these diskless? or are they run on linux to keep the cost down?
Of course, with questions like these maybe I shouldn't ask but, I would love to put a few together to crunch away. Though if I have some of this correctly some of the parts are hard to come by in the US.
Observing also that folding crunching data is in some aspects a small financial commitment-using the system but drawing more power than usual. Though maybe I am mistaken- am I confusing this for a small size folding farm

Anywhere I can find a list of the various sSpecs on these chips? I've had lots of 771 LV/ULV chips pass through my hands but usually don't deal with this socket.
@Dave: If you know of a few sSpecs (ES or release) I can try to locate some CPUs if people in this thread are interested :)

It did exist, that company that made the box with 4 blades in it used the 2300's in their systems.

now my night, assembling the "modded" sammy, pull out my PCP+C610 to install my brandy assed new Corsair 400w PSU that comes with a 24 pin and 8 pin and guess what?
It isn't a 8 pin but a double 4 pin and connectors are wrong for the 8 pin on my board..
Even the box shows a 8 pin but not inside..:mad:

I'd contact the Corsair rep here, sounds like maybe it has the wrong connector on it somehow - 8pin is 8pin I would think, so that 8 pin probably wouldn't work on any board that requires it.
But ... how will he know you care? :lol:
Had enough for one night..1:23am here..I think this board may be considered a $30.00 contribution to science and learning..:shrug:
I'll screw around with it some more tomorrow and if no luck pop the orginal board back in..
Crap... try resoldering the resistor in its place and see if it fires back up?
omg.. this is the longest thread eVer. Well not the longest-but the coolest, most intriguing and most likely in the end result for a good cause! Had some work stuff to do and went to class late and am still reading through this whole thing- it's not like someone can quickly scroll through this, would probably miss something.
Dave I want to know what your end result with that PSU- they like a good price for product and I am getting a list together- I bid on 2 chips last night before I hit the sack. Not the best price but still OK probably gonna pick up a few boards also. "Ideally" I want to get 2 or 3 of these things running by May; they seem perfect!!
