Anything new for DQ6 ? bios ?

Last night I finally got my D9s to run 4:5 with my E6600 & 9x multi, I had timmings of 4-4-3-4. But its a real pain to even get this, many reboots and fiddling.
Seems to me 965 chipset does not like or just plain can't handle high FSB (anything over 400mhz) combined with tightish DDR2 timings. No matter how much juice you put through the components. You nearly always get this crazy odd reboot thing in a circle. Heck, in fact it does'nt even get to the POST properly...:stick: Just goes on for a few seconds, then off for a couple... repeat... repeat...
This is so typical of Gigabyte. I had a similar experience with the GA-G1975X mobo, that board had great voltage options for overclocking in bios and active chipset cooling, but could not O/C a dual core beyond defualt Vcore for S**T !
There is a lot of potential in this chipset and the motherboard with its cpu circuit system and heatpipe cooling but let down by non-optimized bios IMO.Would also help a lot if chipset drivers from Intel were more mature, after all these are only in the 2nd incarnation compared to 975X which is now at 4th revision.

i cant say for certain on the DQ6 but i know for a fact the DS3 hates the SOME D9 micron based ram. you hit a wall around 950mhz and it wont let you go any higher no matter how lose or how many volts.

and yes the problem is totally surrounding the immature bios and poor coders at gigabyte.

i find it nice to have a cheap board and alot of bios's that improve things but i feel bad for you guys who spent the extra money (and obviously didnt research the board enough) cuz the DQ6 is 100% worse than the lesser DS3 for whatever reason.
i dont think when it comes to the DQ6 its all the bios's fault either. maybe it is i dont know but gigabyte has been ignoring the DQ4/6 users.
i do feel bad for you guys.
here i'll sell you my DS3... then i can go buy a AWD9 Pro MAX Ultimate Super Extreme wtf ever its called lol.

when using @bios to update, should "Clear DMI Data Pool" and "Clear PnP Data Pool" be checked?

yes you can it wont hurt anything.
it usually dont help but it wont hurt.
that is basically just a 100% flash instead of a 95% flash...
the DFI boards the Ultra-D and such you could force those kinds of 100% flashes with bios switches. but i dont think the gigabyte flasher has any switches that i know of.. so you just click those options when you flash.

How do you use the CD/DVD to boot into DOS? Are you talking about the gigabyte cd? So I just set the CDROM as first boot device then I just insert the CD in and restart?

I believe the Gigabyte motherboard CD is bootable. So, yes, change the first boot device to CD. Reboot and, I think, press any key to boot from the CD. If not, press NO KEYS when '...boot from CD...' message is displayed.

Sorry, can't remember whether you have to press a key 'to boot from CD' or to 'NOT boot from CD'.

Hmmm, whether I press any keys or not, it just says press any key for xpressrecovery. How do I get to DOS?

Sorry, I've lead you astray. The Gigabyte CD is not going to cut for you (obviously).

If you have Nero installed, use that to create a Boot CD. Search for Help topics in Nero Burning ROM called, 'Making bootable CDs' and 'Template for making a bootable CD' and follow the instructions.

Once you have a Boot CD, follow the instructions from kenofstephen and the instructions to boot from CD mentioned.

usb or regular.

and i say this whole heartedly and without hesitation....

if you dont know how the fvk to get into dos you need to unplug your pc and walk the fvk away from it. your gunna hurt yourself and then just b|tch and whine about the board is crappy cuz you dont know how to use it properly.

System OC stable but won't boot after some time.

Hi, I'm new to the forums, love what u guys are doin here...

I own the gigabyte ga-965p-ds3 mobo with an e6600 and Twin2X2058-8500C5 memory modules. I have my FSB set to 380 with an 8x multi making te CPU run at 3040 MHz. Memory multi set to 2.50x resulting in DDR2-950 running 4-4-4-12 with vdimm +0.4, rest at stock but got my vcore manually set to 1.32500 (which is the stock setting in my BIOS) to prevent auto overvolting.

Now this slight OC (considering the peepz running 450+ FSB) has been running very stable for me. I can run 3DMark06 nonstop and haven't had any crashes whilst gaming, which is enough stability for my standards.

Funny thing is when I leave my pc off for 2 to 3 hours the system won't boot until it eventually resets the FSB to 266 (or rather disables the manual adjust setting). This means I have to re-enable it everytime I leave my pc off for a while. Not an impossible problem, but just plain annoying. Using BIOS F5e

Anyone got some advice...? Would be greatly appreciated. Thx

I was too lazy to check before. But I've rebooted and tried it out. Yes, it is bootable, but there is no accessible DOS prompt using the Gigabyte 965/946 Chipset Utility CD on a 945P MB.

The only option is Express2Recovery. Go into that and there is no option to go to a DOS prompt.

Lestat, are you talking about a different CD?

Thanks GAM! I used these settings to succesfully create a Boot disc that would work on this board.

Then clicked New and burned away. After booting, selected C: and cd DS3 (where my files were.) Typed in flash895 965pds3.f4 and lived happily ever after. :D Die Floppy! Die!!

Welcome to the boards :)

You may need to increase the vcore during the boot process for it to be able to start at that frequency. There's an option in the BIOS that allows you to increase it initially and then run it at a different voltage.

You may also be experiencing power supply issues; there's a much greater power requirement on power on.
