Hi, folks ive just installed my sapphire 5850 im not at all familar with ati because ive always been with Nvidia anyone help me how do i turn my fans up on ati overdrive cuz its greyed out ? i think overclocking is not possible for me is it ? lol cheers in advance.
Strangly my xfx hd 5770 can bench and be completly stable for gaming at 1.25v 1070/1450 but if i lower the mem to 1300 and up the core more than 1070 with 1.35 it crash even in the vantage run. I think i need better cooling for my card before i try to go higher. Also my gpu score are about 10258 in vantage which it seem to me to be low to what i have seen from others.
@Dan7777 if you use msi afterburner you can go in the config file and change the value of enableunofficialoverclocking from 0 to 1 and it will let you go for more than the 960 core 1445 1175v limit of your bios and it with work with every card.
Anyone tried the driver in Sapphire webpage?
They have one released @ December 21... also an Xcode something with 30Mb... also from dec,21.
You have to make bootable usb in this way and format the USB in FAT32, not in FAT. Also you have to select USB like first bootable device.
Here is a guide how to flash ATI card in DOS. Download the latest atiflash and Asus 5850 bios and rename it with short name, for example asus5850.bin (dos don't like long names of files ) put them both to pendrive, reboot and type command dir to see the files in pendrive and after that type the command for flashing: atiflash -f -p 0 asus5850.bin if you with single card. After flashing reboot and you have new bios, reinstall the drivers and go benching :).
Cheers!
Ordered this card yesterday. Anyone disapointed with similar card ?
Brand ASUS
Model EAH5870/2DIS/1GD5/A
There hasn't really been any major problems with the 5000 Series that has been discovered yet, but with more time something may become apparent. The only thing even remotely wrong is the VRM bottleneck on the 5970, but that is only when OCing.
Thx Led.
I think that Asus card come with an unlocked Bios already and they waranty the OC with the Volt range they give.
NO i have a HD5750 since the HD58xx have been hard to buy ... was waiting an HD5850 from a local shop but i finnaly decided to buy this HD5870 from newegg ... Cancelled the one from the local shop.

Why dont you sell your GTX295 for an HD5970 ?
Youll wait few month ... Fermi isnt going to be out soon in the 2010. Only optimistic ppl spaek about Q1. Im pretty sure its going to be Q2.
was having strange low score (about 10200 gpu score) with 1.25v 1050 core and 1350 mem and then i tried 1.282 v 1085 core and 1350mem and look what i have got as score in vantage
