I have a GTX285 with parts missing (circled in red). Can you tell me what they're rated for (resistance/capacitance) and how I can return it to stock?

if you want stock voltage: just have 1/3/11 bridged + black resistor
Actually I found out that at stock, those green resistors don't exist and the contacts are not connected. That photo was confusing me. I did short the black resistor but the orange capacitor at the bottom right is still a mystery to me. The one above it was broken so I had to desolder it as well. I'm getting 0.3v for some reason at POST and the card still isn't working.Quote:

for me that link^ was a cure for solid color screens
step 2 definitely increases vcore.. though both vcore and cooling is the cure and cause for solid color screens.. a balance you have to find even after ocp mod
id say just sell your 285 and get a 480 and enjoy vcore mod via soft :up:

how low do I have to get that resistor/part? How many Ohms?
I'm on water so temperature should be okay, my max is around 46/47c on load. ...the solid color problems are VERY annoying.

Well I know this is kind of a dead thread, but I am now seeing 1.28 to 1.29 vGPU now...vMEM is also better....my overclocking has improved. Though I am now running into a weird problem...a problem that I've seen happen before on my cards before mods....where the screen will split and freeze. I have SLI. Its a strange issue, I don't know what causes it...the screen with split. I'll keep at it.
Sup Orange i dunno about the SLI as i never used but i followed Napalms mods and also Crotales and worked as a charm my BFG GTX285 H2O OC still rocking at nice 803/1792/2970 my game clocks ;)
817/1792/3000+ for bench, over that i get solids even with mods

I have no soldering skills so...I have to pencil everything. My mods with the GTX 285 end with Step 2....I can't do the OCP or whatever mod...no skills :(
My temps are friggen great! but my cards are poop...at 1.28/29 volts...I'm not even stable at 775/1748/2800 ...I have to back it down quite a bit.

orange the 10k resistor i lowered to 5k and solid color screens were gone
give it a try it might help you
but if you want to gain more clocks youve got to do crotales ocp mod
use a ~1k~ resistor the way i did the ocp mod @ 1st post.. its easier :up:

I'll try 5 ohm on resistor as well. I found it super easy to bring down resistance on that one.

I lowered Step 2 resistor to roughly 5 ohms as you mentioned and now I'm seeing much better results with overclocking. I'm now at, what seems stable.... 765/1725/2800
I know, not the best compared to you 800 core guys...but I was having issues trying to get it stable before....lowering to 5 ohms did the trick so far.
I can run 3 loops of Vantage without issue.
I'm eyeing the OCP mod...but to be honest, I'm truly contemplating just going GTX 480 with water.

I have a question though- I have two MSI GTX285's, and while looking for a way to up the voltage and get above 680MHz core, someone on a different forum mentioned black versus red trim on the cards and that there were different ways to volt mod each. Looking at the pics in this thread, everyone has a black PCB, but mine is red.... can I still follow the guides here for my cards?

I don't get it...I was getting good results when getting Step2 resistor down to 5 ohms...but I still get solid color screen and freeze. I was able to run countless Vantage loops...and also did furmark and OCCT Gpu testing...and no solid colors, but the minute I load up a game and play for a few minutes, BAM! solid color / freeze.
Do I have to go even lower than 5 ohms on step 2 now?
it's so annoying.
orange youve got to do the ocp mod and step 3
since youre on water increased vcore from step 3 will help
do the ocp mod + step 3 and youll take it further

guess a design thing saw many ppl doing the basic vid mod and getting difs volts, in ma case i have a BFG GTX285 H20 OC stock 729/1674/2780 loaded stock was 1.18vgpu and did the mod and get 1,21ish...so i went for the real thing and im gamming at 803/1792/3000+ vgpu 1,38loaded and vmem stockQuote:
