On air? That's quit abit since temps would easily his 60C when running Prime95 using qx9650 or is this stipulation based on q9650?
My temps at 1.35 for the cpu is 41C
NB temps at 1.5 are at 40C

I am still struggling with the temp of the NB (on air). Looks like the TRUE120 is warping the board. Below is a pic of how bad it becomes. Only half of the NB touches the copper block of the stock cooling. Tried experimenting with the mounting for the TRUE (including washer trick, and putting different tensions), to no avail. Now taken off all of the stock cooling. Any ideas on how to avoid this using the stock cooling? TIA....

also at the present and i DO stress the word present, the rig is running a q9450 2.66G cpu + 4g corsair ddr3 1333 mem 9.9.9.24 spec anyway its all in the build log so far .. NEEDLESS to say this has NOT been without it's pitfalls
So for ANYONE wanting to rush out and grab this board and run it with a quadcore ...sit back . reflect & think hard . because looking at the crappy job asus has done with this board as far as quality control goes ITS pretty lack luster to say the least . anyway Sure it does Not have the best of mem out there installed but its on the qvl 1333 sect right at the top .. and the cpu is also supported .. so ? anyway for more details on it.. the link again is

Yesterday I decieded to see what was better Speeding HDD or the Intel ICH9. I hooked my two WD 150gig Raptors to the speedy HDD disabled the ICH9. I can say for sure that going threw the first part of the bios up USB final was twice as fast as the ICH9. I was bit surprised and thought maybe this Speeding HDD is going to blow away the ICH9. After installing windows XP pro The time it took to boot into windows was cut in half compaired to the ICH9. So those two things the speedy is for sure better at. I have 3 screen shots first is speedy without the marvell 61XX driver 2Nd is with the 61xx driver 3rd is the Intel ICH9R

As you can see from the benchmarks Speedy with the driver out performs speedy without the driver. Another nice thing about speedy is you dont have to install the driver during windows setup. So no searching for a floppy or having to intregate your raid drivers into your CD. You just simply add it after booting into windows. Another note is installing the driver slighly increases the XP boot up time. From the benches it seems speed flat lines to about have way threw the disk @ about 133 transfer rate. I am not sure but i believe is the transfer rate cap on speedy . Not sure if it is driver or hardware related. I would think two 7200 sata 1 drives would be below this 133. If someone has two hooked up to there Speeding HDD would be nice to see the benchmarks. Taking a look at the Intel ICH9 in raid 0 it does Beat out the speedy. Sandra shows less of a win but if you look at the everest it shows more of a butt kicking. Buffered Read showing the biggest differance with a 100% gain on the Speedy.
I was thinking about redoing this some time soon, these benchmark are only for read speed, to do write speeds the drives need to be empty. So i was thinking XP & Vista dual boot on a 160 Gig sataII drive and running some read and write tests..Also would be nice to do some tests on some 7200 sataI drives ( but i dont have any free at the moment ...Anyways i hope this helps with the question : Is ROG Speeding HDD on my rampage extreme really faster then the intel ICH9r in raid 0
I dont seem to have a problem with my Quad core on this board running it @ 3.8Ghz. Sure Asus for sure did a slack job on the TIM for the heat pipes. ( they need to fire the Guy that does that ). But really i think this board will only produce better overclocks with new bios releases. I think with a band new board with a fairly new chipset your just going to have to face the fact your going to be a beta tester for awhile. Not really sure what your having a problem with but that chip should have no problems running @ 2.66. If your post your settings and what is wrong maybe I or someone else in here can help you get it squared away

Your 32Mb did you mean 32Kb block size when you made the raid 0? Which if that is the block size would be interesting to see your read benches. Since i have mY Block size set up as the Defualt 128Kb.
I really am thinking about hooking up that 160gig and wipe the raptors and get some write benches. I kinda feel like the read benches i posted have created more questions for me, Then what they have answered. One being since write on two raptors will be below 133MB/s is the Speeding and ICH9R going to bench the same? I might just do it although installing windows 2 more times today does not sound like much fun. I would rather be more thorough and with some time Questions could be answered

For those browsing the thread this board runs quads at decent overclocks - just don't expect the FSB speeds that made headlines when this board was released (yet - anyway). Not sure if that goes for all quad chips. EF done very well with his 9650. My 9770 is only prime stable at 405FSB so I use that with a multi of 10. At 425FSB it will play games but not bench. Of course there is always variance in the CPU and Mobo so some will be better than others. Worth reading back a few pages as Mezzro has posted some good info for quad users.
For some reason, my board is not stable even @ stock settings with everything on auto. Memtest fails with all three of my RAM kits, SPI 32M is a no go also.Same thing happened to my S2E(actually it was a bit worse) and I am going through this again :mad:.I think I would have to try a bit harder by doing a trial and error with the BIOS settings. Since everything is @ default, it's reading the XMP profile from my Gskill SPD and running the FSB @ 400x7.5 = 3GHZ for my QX9650. I also took the heatsink off, cleaned and applied MX-2 and did the washer mod(I cut up the silicon gormets that came with my V2110B and used it as a washer :D) and my NB idles @ around 43C and it went up to 53C when running SPI 32M. This is @ a VMCH of 1.35V.I put a 120 MM fan over it and it helped a bit(Idle:42C and Load: 47C).I don't know whether these temps are OK or not(comming from 975x->780i->790i->X48). I thought after getting a stable PC @ stock speeds, I could put my raid card and the OCZ ssds and do a review,since I didn't want the instability of my PC to skew up the results. I guess that would have to wait until I get my PC stable @ stock speeds.Any help to get my PC stable @ stock with any of the RAM kits that I have would be appreciated.
Hi Tekjunkie, try setting as much of the bios to manual settings - this worked better for me. Also enter the XMP memory settings manually and use the white DIM slots.
Your temps are fine - I get around 60 degs load at 1.45v with washers and AS5.
I have tried those settings with my QX9770 and it took me from 410fsb to430fsb with 20 minutes OCCT stable - I have stopped oCCT myself so maybe it was fully stable with 1 hour test.
Just wanted to ask - how safe are those settings? in particular CPU PLL and GTL ones. Are they 24/7 settings?
