Okay, I have read through pretty much all these post and have been able to grasp some of the ideas on oc'ing. I am really new at this and was wondering if there is a good reference for the settings/functions? I would like to get myself educated without having to ask "what does this do?". I am also curious as how much of a PITA is water cooling?

I believe what's important is in how one feels about it at the outset. PITA is relative in this regard. I have spent quite a few hours reading about watercooling and I enjoy customizing and building the various setups. In this regard it is more of a hobby which is what this forum is all about. It is not hard to put together a good watercooling setup and you can make it as complex as you want. There are good sticky reads in the liquid cooling section of the forum. If you have specific questions don't hesitate to ask. People on this forum are more than willing to help.
Just a side note... I got 3.9ghz (490 FSB) out of a Q9450 in this board (on air cooling). Bencheable at wprime.

Thanks for the input. I have read that the PLL is a variable that manipulates the SB and that it should not be adjusted??? Also when you test setting do you go through all possible comination adjusting one varible at a time? I am running at 3.2gHz right now with 400 FSB Ram 400, 1600 with all on auto. So from here I guess its FSB 425, is there a ratio for vFSB to vNB that one can use or do you simple raise one then adjust the other until you are stable.
Yep, you got that right. Adjust one setting at a time and retest is the best method but it can take a lot of time. For some people this is more a PITA then installing some watercooling (ask me!!!!). I've trying to get this CPU stable now for three weeks and its starting to show some results now. However others will manage a stable and decent overclock in a few hours or days which was the case with my previous comp. It all depends on what hardware is used and even then not two pieces of hardware are the same. Hence it is hard if not impossible to give some numbers which also apply to your hardware setup.
Nonetheless there are ofcourse some maximum reference points which you should better not cross while overclocking, e.g. max. FSB termination (VTT), max. Vcore (CPU voltage), etc.
Intel lists a max safe voltage and an absolute max voltage for several settings
CPU 1.3625(max)----------1.45(absolute max)
FSB 1.155(max)-----------1.45(absolute max)
PLL +5% =1.575(max)-----?(absolute max)
I have done a lot of tests with my new corsair ram kit :
nomore memory error with memest 2.01 but always some random freeze during stability test !!
For exemple , i make a first Cpu stability test during 4 hours without any problem . The following day I do again exaclty the same test and my computer freeze 20 minutes later l !

Aquike question. What is the purpose of the SuperPi test and what do you look for after each settings change?
SuperPi testing for me has been helpful in terms of finding stability. I have found this board very touchy with a quad core and 4GB ram. Mainly it has been the ram settings that have been the most headache for me. I have found that adjusting clock skew has been helpful for me in achieving stability. If I was at an unstable setting, SuperPi would crash the system even if Prime95 would not error.
I have some weird issues to with this board but don't know if its board or CPU related. A few pages back I described my problem. It comes down to that I need a lot of voltage (approximately 1.45v) to get this E8400 stable at 4Ghz. Also when LLC on auto it has a total drop of 0.067v and therefore I use performance at this moment.
I manage to stabilize my system (FINALLY) by reducing ram clock speed from 1800Mhz to 1600Mhz with pretty good timings (7-7-7-21-1N) and FSB 400 (multiplier 9.0). The only other things changed are DRAM READ and WRITE CONTROL (both disabled), LLC (Normal) and SPECTRUMS (both disabled). Vcore is set to 1.360V (CPU-Z reading - in BIOS IS two or three clicks more) and Vram is set to 1.8V (stock voltage was 1.9V with 8-7-6-21). The rest left in AUTO.
SuperPI and Prime95 (several hours) passed with flying colors and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. played (Vista Ult x64) 2-3 hours with no crashes or BSOD... :up:
And a tip to cool down the NB heatsink... Get one or two small fans (the size of the fans Corsair uses for its 3-fan RAM add-on) and with a silicone gun put a few drops on the ASUS logo and press the fan(s) onto it. Leave the PC a few hours off (so that the silicone gets concrete) and... voila !!!! You have a pretty effective cooling system for the P5E3's heat sensitive NB chip... :)

You should look at OCZ forum there are some stickies written by Tony with advise on how to get 4gb stable and how to set up the P5E3-Premium.
You shold set the NB voltage manually. When you want to run your memory (2x1Gb) at 1800Mhz it needs about 1.6 - 1.65v. I run mine at 1780Mhz with 1.65v stable.Quote:

Are these the regular OCZ forums? If so perhaps we should post them in the OCZ support section here on XS as well.
Just finished my rig and ready to do some clocking this weekend so any quick settings from an OCZ guys could be helpful. Perhaps a link if you have it?
Isn't 1,65v on the NB a bit high?
So far the AUTO settings (except CPU and RAM) serve to my system stability. In several previous attempts I tested NB volts up to 1.65 (with 4x1gb modules of 1800Mhz ram) but never had an error-free Prime95, and even got random BSOD and reboots.
Maybe the next step is to test my new handmade (:D ) NB cooling system with more ram Mhz and manual NB voltage settings... :rolleyes:

I have my system running now at 400fsb 333NB strap (8 multiplier) which put my memory at 1601MHz. I jumped it up to 425 and the memory went to 1700MHz. I will post my setting a little later as I want to ask the question about the fsb/dram ratio, it is set to 1:2 per CPU-Z. How does one go about changing this? As I increase the FSB I do not want to overclock the memory to far.
