I got my E8400 Batch# Q809A170 I will post results maybe next week, I still have to get a PS for my system, its going to be watercooled! :D
hi guys whihc is the best e8400 ?? thx
which batch pm plz thx
Did anyone get any any degration with the E8400's? I have owned mine for 2 months now and when I stress test my e8400 with OCCT It didn't crash. Now it even crashes on stock speeds and crashes on clocked speeds too. Can anyone help me? What should I do.
E8400 4.0ghz(444x9) at 1.38v
MSI Neo2-Fr
Anyone seen any results on this stepping q803a706 haven't seen one posting of it yet. geez did I get the only one made on that day right now running 4333mhz with 1.37 volts
Finally got my E8400 , Q807A179 lets hope it doesnt have much trouble overclocking past 4ghz
Hmm I'm not sure what to do... search for a 814 which seems to clock like hell... or stick with my Xeon E3110 (4.2 @ 1.33v)... tempting :slobber:
How are the Q745A783 I am getting one from my friend.
3 new E8400 CPU's arrived today : 2 batch Q816A044 and one Q805A546
Currently testing (going straight 3.6ghz, need to quickly test here, if it passes at or below 1.1, I will try 4ghz) one of the two 816's... current result 3.6ghz stable at 1.22Vcore under load, going lower than this I get stuck on the post screen of windows, not a good sign :(
Bios 0812 on the PK5 DLX, Vcore is set at 1.2750, no LLC -- drops to 1.24 in windows and further to 1.22 under prime small FFT's... will post a screenie as it passes 30 minutes, then I will try the 805 ( got a good feeling with that one )
To be continued...
EDIT : Second Q816A044 plus minus the same performance 3.6Ghz at 1.23volts, tried a quick bump up to 4050mhz, I need 1.36Vcore (under load)
Q805A546 seems promising, tried it at 3.6ghz could go as low as 1.1volts there.. now testing 4ghz at 1.24Vcore ( 1.3 set in bios ) temps are pretty high small FFT's 60°C on real temp...cooled with a dual rad....
http://users.pandora.be/OAP/8400Q805a546.JPG
wow so the 805 is under water at 60c???? man these new ones seem worse and worse..
K my test watercooling setup are my old things I still had laying around : Dlaing pump, Swiftech Apogee block, Extreme Flow 240, Yate Loon fans ans 8/10mm tubing
Piccie here :

I'm putting some sort of Excell sheet together from the known results here, just stable 24/7 speed, Vcore, batch and mobo and cooling used
Grab the XLS file here :

Only at post 540 guys , plz ahng in there lol
Nice Q805, I got a chance to get it and the Q745, but seeing your high temps, I am glad I choose Q745.
ive looked and dont see anything in the 7xx's around.. ill have to check ebay maybe.. im only running air so im not sure ill do even anything over 4 with the 805 then.. sucks..
K I did the full list published here in one Excell file (though I took the ones that had some proof and no suicide shots)
Have fun with it, will be easier for some to find a good or crappy batch... though there's some big luck involved

got my 8400 running 450x9 with only 1,24 under water prime'd also at 4,6 with 1,45 but too much heat
what is the Max Vcore on the E8400 on Waterchilled Setup ? Mine takes 1.47 to get stable at 4050 Full load temps are 40C
This is my Q745A567

q808a256
Just snagged a retail E8400 for $141.
Batch# is Q810A055.
Wafer is 6A1356, pretty sucky according to Hipro.
Will toss it under a TRUE w/ some MX2 hopefully this weekend.
Temps seem high huh? It is currently 100F outside and 78F inside. AC keeping us cool!

Enjoy...
^^^^ thats simply a insane chip.. wow ...
Low Vid but High Full Load Temps if readings are correct....:D
Next week my Watercooling will be ready for action and hope for much better OC...
BTW is was just Lucky...:ROTF:
not just lucky........:D:D
and it`s your first C2D...
Noob Luck i think....
Dagalidis, Tjmax in CoreTemp isn't correct, it should be 95C.;) So your temps would be 10C lower.:)
hmm some benching with my new E8400 never saw this batch before
Q804A249 wafer XXXX817 :p:
4ghz 1.20v
not as good as Dagalidis one but sounds promising
me happy lol
and better than my actual xeon Q746A534 1.29v 4ghz load( same vcore than former xeon Q807A01 but better temps )
http://img398.imageshack.us/img398/4797/q804yz8.jpg
i dont understand how is it possible to have it at 4ghz with only 1.2v:(:shrug:
Run orthos longer! :p:
I pasted 35 minutes of orthos with 1.200v, it took 1.21v to get it stable for 4+ hours.
anyone ever tried Q744A? i search here but no luck :(
lol ThatGuy ! that chip seems very similar to yours
failed prime after 45 min small ffts , should have run large or blend
Anyway , it should be stable with less volts than my current xeon Q746
( 1.29v )
So you miss xeons Q807a091 and E8400 Q814A015 :p:
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...&postcount=179
unfortunately I sold it lol
I changed my e8500 cpu gtl reference to 0.67x, and now it boots only if underclocked before this i have 9.5 x 450 @4.3 vcore 1.32 no with no problems. I have tryed 3 motherboards: Maximus formula, Maximus rampage and p5w dh deluxe, same problem with each one. LCD poster says det ram, I have tryed with 3 different sets of memory.
i tryed change volts and everything but no post even stock clocks with 300 fsb i can boot
Dagalidis, Wow are you nuts????/?, having such a Golden CPU and saying your JUST lucky.
I would kill to have that CPU.
hmm have to fine tune bios settings
yesterday ran 45 min prime small with 1.20v and today failed in less than 5sec with 1.21v :ROTF:
But I succeeded raising my max fsb air cooling comparing to my xeon and temps are quite fine :D
http://img223.imageshack.us/img223/1...4p13kc8.th.jpg
Valid 4.8 ghz 1.56v air
It failed faster with higher voltage,
I want to bench mine above 4.5Ghz so bad, but i can't seem too get above 512FSB. It will completely lock up after a couple minutes into windows. I have raised my FSB, and MCH, i know its not my ram... :shakes:
:help:
Well most peeps look for how batches perform, you can do with the list what you want, but most users can quick reference the batch with some results ( if we have any ofcourse)
I'm planning to add any 45nm I can get my hands on... peeps can pm me and I will try to keep the list as updated as possible...
How do you know it's not your memory?
I benched at 500x9 with 1.6 volts on air. It made it through 3dmark06... I was pleased.
Do you have water on the chipset? If so I doubt your chipset is the limiting factor. I would start with memory than start working with voltages.
It might be different with me considering my 780i... however I had great luck with 800mhz unlinked. Still able to keep very tight timings too.
I have a fan on my NB now, i thought that would help, but it didn't :( Its cool to the touch now, before it was pretty darn hot.
I can do 4.5Ghz, and just barely get a 3Dmark run in before it locks up. I have raised my NB in my bios to as much as +0.275v, FSB +0.25v. There doesn't have to be a load on anything when it happens. Which leaves me to believe its my NB. But ram can cause that al well.
I set my ratio to 1:1 in bios (i have DDR2-1000 ram) so 500x9 i would think wouldn't be a problem. My timings were 5-5-5-15, and the sub-timings to auto. I have to leave those on auto, for some reason if i manually set them, it won't post.
It will do 4.6Ghz, but locks up within a couple minutes, just enough time to get a couple SuperPI runs in
On a side note, i can do 4.6Ghz with 1.44v. And i haven't even tried to see what the lowest possible is for 4.6
Rather unlucky this time...:
Q812A247
E8400 on a Asus Rampage on water. OCZ 9200's at 1202 5-4-4-10 PL7 at 500fsb.
Cant it get stable above 4.2 GHZ
Runs stable at 8*500 at 1.408v / 24C idle, 1.38v / 47C load (Realtemp figures, on water)
Tried 8,5*500, but gave up above 1.55 volts. It would still crash after 2-3 minutes in OCCT.
VID is set as 1,1125 in Coretemp, and 1.2225 in Realtemp/CpuID
Pretty disappointing chip all in all, was hoping for 4,5ghz 24/7
Question:
Is it really true that FSB affects the vcore requirements ? A few of the posters here seem to believe so. Some real life figures would be excellent. 500FSB PL7 really does wonders for the memory I'm using. Does 10700 on all 3 tests in Everest at 45.8ns latency, so I'd really love to stay at this FSB.
Also, what about GTL ? There are only 4 possible settings on the Rampage, ranging from 0.62x to 0.67x. They don't seem to have any immediate impact from what i can tell. Neither does PLL from what little ive been able to test so far.
I flashed my bios, and that fixed it!!
Finally broke 20k!
:yepp::yepp::yepp:
http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...m1/20kyeah.jpg
I've been working on getting a run at over 4500 for the last week. Just today I figured out that I am going to try set PLL and VTT manually, as the auto on my mb really ramps these up.
I've been posting mostly in the Striker II Formula thread on this, but will also let you all here know how it goes too.
Eh not sure, i didn't really even try and see what the lowest voltage i could use was. That was just for a bench run, but with my chip being such a low voltage chip. I should raise my 24/7 clock, as 4.0Ghz is stable with only 1.216v
Tomorrow, I'm going to try for 4.7Ghz. I can't believe this whole time, all i needed was a bios update to get me past ~510FSB
Some BIOSes relax Chipset Timmings and get able to work on higher FSB but at the same time you loose Performance.
This week i will try some special DDR2 Kit 2X1GB Cellshock, Can do 1247 @ 4-4-4 CL 4 from Hipro5.... :D:up:
http://www.thelab.gr/attachment.php?...0&d=1211123375
Now that is some awesome ram!!
I actually got my 8400 to run stable at 4250 mhz now at 1.45v. I let the motherboard set FSBt and vMCH automatically.
It turns out the Rampage seems to undervolt FSBt by alot with this chip. Even set at 1.38 in Bios, it would be 1.30 real. Now its at 1.42 real, wich seemed to help alot.
Also, according to Anandtech, loadline calibration should be disabled on the Rampage for E8400. To me that sounds like a load of bull. With it enabled, vCore never budges a notch. I set it to 1.45, and it stays at exactly that under load. Im sure i could get it to run stable at 4500 aswell, but it does seem to require atleast 1.5v under load.
Anyone else have any ideas on Loadline Calibration with these chips, aswell as the FSBt requirements ?
Also would love a reply regarding high frequency CPU overclocking at high FSB's in terms of voltage requirements. Would a lover FSB allow higher CPU clocks ?
Finally, what about the memory enhancement settings on the x38/x48 chipsets ? On Gigabyte cards its called Memory Performance Enhance, and on Asus its called AI Clock Twister. They both have quite substantial impacts on memory performance. I keep AI Clock Twister on Stronger (max setting) on this board. Should this have any effect on the CPU frequency possible ? (when all im doing is say change from 500*8,5 to 500*9, eg only changing ratio)
Hi guys
How do you think about this fpo q74882sd (e8400) ?
thanks
oki , gonna finish priming this chip and pm you with .
finally not as good as my former xeon q807 but better than average penryns and better temps too . Gonna keep that one this time lol
4 ghz @1.248v

Here we go! Older batch: Q746A487 requires more voltage apparently:shakes: but I'm still happy... just hot!
Of course it is 78 Fahrenheit in here... so not bad IMO.

Hmm...could you run a quick FSB test with multi 6?
arghh how does everyone get these 807a's??? i see soo many good ones in those and ive ordered 3 different ones and cant get one...
Just an update... I did experience the dreaded burn-in or degradation with my E8400.
I originally was 24hr. Orthos stable at 4.1 GHz w/1.328V actual. Now, after a month and a half my OC has settled to 4.0GHz w/1.330V ish actual. It has been rock solid, but I did lose a little bit of my OC and it took a little bit more VCore. I'm still happy with 4.0GHZ for $200 though!. It also appears that any degradation that is going to happen, has already happened.
I noticed the samething myself yesterday. I originally needed 1.34 real vcore for 4.0ghz, now it requires 1.36 real for the same speed which means i'll be idling at 1.39vcore before droop. I decided to drop my oc down to 3.99 using the original vcore.
What is BIOS stable? How bout an hour or two Orthos? Then I'll be asking questions!
A fine batch... Just a bit older. I have Q746, it does require more voltage than recent batches but will get you to 4.05ghz and above (might!).
I had same problem. I was 1.375v @ 4.05ghz stable for hours the first week but after about a month it failed in 45mins. I had to bump up to 1.39v, which isnt bad but kinda sucks!
Just got my new E8400 (Q809A348), haven't pushed it too much, but whats for sure, it can do 9*400MHz@1.200V easely. Thats what I expected, tough :)
Will test it later...
Got a E8400 today with batch Q812A233, havent seen any around but it´s so good that i hoped. But 500x8 with 1.3250v in bios and 1.31 in cpuz seems to be stable. Haven´t tried any prime yet but for some gameplay it´s working perfect.

what is considered high voltage id vs low?
i just recieved a E7200 w/ vid 1.1000, is that average? good? bad?
Looks like mine has "degraded" or had its "burn in" time. I tried to run orthos, it fails after 1 minute and a half.
Before it was stable at 1.216v load, now im priming at 1.23v load.
However! i have been benchmarking the past few days with voltage from 1.475v up to 1.55v (1.55v was not long, a couple minutes at most. Mostly 1.475)
I noticed before i could boot into widows at 4.6Ghz at 1.44v, now it needs about 1.475v, maybe less.
mine , sorry i forgot the batch i will post soon
http://img26.picoodle.com/img/img26/...tm_46ce929.png
I wonder if i do it again, if it will "degrade" more. Or if all the damage has been done... i love running 3dmark at 4.6Ghz :p:
they might read out the VID better now (or worse), for my Qx9650 it's hilarious...
note : I added the older coretemp and for my Qx that seems more realistic... or you can say this CPU does 4ghz at almost stock voltage...naaaah

Will add the E8400 in the weekend when I get the CPU back
Going from 4050 to 4095 yields a 5.9 rating for Vista on my setup. Is it the same for everyone there?
E8400 @ 4095 and quite cold w/ low volts still all around. It's not the super chip we've seen around here, but I did manage to "draft" him out of a few other higher MAX VID retail boxes from Fry's. :D I only wanted 4, this is all gravy.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...e8400_4095.jpg
succeeded to raise my fsb at 568 on X48
( failed at 570 , freeze after getting vista desktop lol )

It's characteristic for these cpu's to need a little more vcore after they
burn-in. However after it completes the burn-in phase it will not (should not :) ) degrade further. I've seen this happen even at stock vcore.
After my CPU completed the burn-in phase it needed +.024mv to be
100% stable @ my initial overclock. I have since had it up to 1.6v (for brief
periods) and It has not degraded any further, and I check it regularly.
