There's a new version of Easytune5 now... I find it easy to use =)
Things are pretty slow on this thread.....
91 more posts and we hit 3000!!
Correct me if I'm wrong people, but this is normal if you exceed a setting that GB thinks will hurt you. For example, mine will run all day at 288 fsb but I can set my FSB to 300 and memtest and run stable for hours, and then shut down and turn off the PSU. When I turn it back on it will reset off on off on....etc till it resets the bios. Sometimes I have to turn it off and on again to complete this.Quote:

Also, your dimm volts on auto is = 1.8 volts. I'm pretty sure bumping it to +.400 should add some stability as well as getting some better timings.

Not normal. My runs stable at 400 and it can run at 450 but requires to much voltage. If you read the gigabyte ds3 support page it tells you what options need to be enabled/disabled.Quote:

Maybe I wasn't clear. Oh...I went back and read what I typed and I was clear. I booted and ran memtest86 and ran stable and then it wouldn't cold boot. I had heard this was a known problem and just wanted some clarification on it. Thanks anyway for trying to help.Quote:

got it
1GB PC2-6400
DDR2-800MHz = CAS 3-3-3-8
GX22GB6400PDC
Voltage 2.4v
Go to the main bios screen and hit Ctrl and F1 at the same time. Then go to the motherboard intelligent tweaker page and you will see the memory voltages. Set the voltage as per your brand. Save the settings and then cold boot (power off and on). Now when you check cpuz it will probably show the right memory and spd.Quote:

Same here. The first boot of the day never works. The BIOS always resets itself. Warm reboots, Priming, gaming all work fine. I just can't get the system to cold boot with my overclock.Quote:

It's a little too hot for my liking, peaking at 70c (Core according to Everest) during dual prime 95 lge/sml ffts.
I booted but failed prime within minutes at 460 but at that time my ram timings were tighter at 5 5 5 18 and I've messed with voltages since then. I'll try 460 again with current settings.
Can someone help me though, what is appropriate setting to mess with when the system boots but doesn't show any video i.e., blank screen, but it's obviously running? I think it's related to FSB Freq. which I've set at 100 for now iirc. I'm pretty sure that when I set 105 or anything other than 100 this symptom presents itself. I haven't changed PCI Overvoltage from Normal.
OK......I promise I wasn't smoking anything before I typed this.
As a part of my testing of F8i this afternoon, I was testing my memory overclocking. My memory has run at DDR904 on another motherboard so I wanted to see how close I could get.
I must have been smoking something afterall.
Not too sure if this is impressive, but I hit 500Mhz 5-4-4 with 4 x 1GB of Fatbody D9 with F8i on a DS3.
8 x 400Mhz on the CPU, I could only wish that it was 1:1 :D
However, my board craps out at 480Mhz with +0.2V, and +0.3V won't even boot, even with cool 7C Canadian air blowing on it.
Hopefully, there will be some improvements in the final F8 release.
BTW, has anyone else noticed that memory bandwith is better at 450Mhz than at 455Mhz? This is 1:1 with a 8X multiplier
The problem is the F8b beta for the DQ6 is very immature, there is a problem with overclocking and the Watch Clock Time Out.
I was also able to set FSB to 425x8, but upon shutting down and restarting the PC just hangs on POST, it won't save the overclock settings. Thus it's not wise to have an overclock with F8b, default settings are fine.
Wait until the bios matures, i also thought the problem was related to the PCI-E frequency, it's not...it's more technical.
"Watch Clock Time Out"?
Like i said, it's technical. A new beta spin is supposed to come later in the week.
lwj5, what you are saying is common for Geil RAM. Check their website. All their RAM is read as 5-5-5-15 DDR2-667 when you first boot up. You have to go into the BIOS settings and manually set the memory timings of the actual RAM.
I would suggest you try memory overvoltage of +0.3 tho you may get away with less if running at 800 and 5-5-5-15
As mentioned above, to get to the settings you need to boot into bios and from the main screen press CTRL+F1 then go into the MB Intelligent Tweaker settings.
The settings are there
He has been told that at least 6 times on 3 different forums in 4 different threads. He doesnt' like the answer, so he just keeps asking LOL!!Quote:

64bits of data can be transferred on each clock cycle. That's the same as 8 bytes. So
DDR2 800 * 8 = PC2-6400
I don't think I've seen PC2-xxxx referenced by GB in the BIOS, manual, etc.
I just received F8c beta for the DQ6, not flashed as yet. Observations later.
 thats crazy talk!, you'd need some high speed fan or watering cooling on the RAM for that voltage.Quote:

F8c, dated November 24th 2006...few days old so i suspect an F8d is in the works. One thing i noticed in bios was profiles, never noticed this before but was probably present in F8b.
You can press F11 to save a profile and you can save these profiles to bios....you can choose from 8 custom profiles and name them as you want, F12 is also another new option which allows you to either load a profile from bios or use the last known good bios/profile. Intel AHCI and SATA bios ROM remain unchanged, JMicron is still updated to 1.06.59.
The overclocking persists, and i think it's releated to FSB.
As you can see from the screen shot below i input my standard 425x8, but once again upon shutting down the PC it freezes/no POST. I have to push the reset buton whereby i POST but upon entering bios my CPU Host Clock Control is disabled.
Thus i have tried something different, FSB of 345x8 and 345x9..both work and i can shut down the PC and reboot (but have since learned that these settings will not work either), anything over 350FSB won't work...it's like we're back to the old days of bios version F1-F4. Appears this new bios is back to beng FSB limited. Something GB are aware of and have said they are coming up with a new method for FSB overclocking.
My current settings are 345x9=3.1GHz running a 4:5 devider on the memory giving me 862Mhz with 4-4-4-12 set manually. [update] - on further use the bios is still unstable at anything above 266FSB, i tried 340, 334, 300...it's the same scenario, once you power down and push the power on the PC hangs, it will sit there for 30 seconds or so and then POST, but your overclocking settings are disabled.
Clearly the Watch Clock Timeout issue has not been addressed in this bios.
Richard please share it with us and new BIOS for DS4 means F7 would have profile option? or GB put it into F8Quote:

I second that. I still hope they will release a new BIOS for the DS4 as soon as the new BIOS for DQ6 is released because they are more or less the same board. If only we could have a more "official" report on that, it would be much appreciated :p:Quote:

Since i have a DQ6 thats all that concerns me, in terms of beta. There is no benefit for anyone to be using these early DQ6 betas....they are too immature to be useful, overclocking is not possible at this stage.
The big one i'm hoping for is updated AHCI and SATA bios ROM's...then i'll put some HDTach numbers up and also show how SATA optical drives work. The profiles have nothing to do with the SLI profiles seen on recent AMD boards, it's more like saving a set of bios settings, say "Richard1" and another profile would have another set of settings "Richard2"...one profile could have say 400x9 while the other has 425x8 etc.
You can save upto 8 profiles in bios, you can boot from a specdic profile or your last known good profile/boot up. It's an intersting additional as it would allow you to save various overclock settings in bios and test each one, without having to input/change bios setting each time you want to test an overclock setting.
HD Tach, see my sig for drives used and stripe size. The numbers are somewhat average compared to others screenies i have seen. However you must remember that folks don't normally post Stripe size, i've used different Stripe sizes and they do make a difference in raw figures.
32K Stripe can add another 10-12MB/s...also note that my drivers are the latest 6.2.0.2002...but, you need a corresponding bios ROM to go with said drives.
I'm using Intel SATA bios ROM 6.0.0.1022 which is the oldest avialable, but GB say they have and will update the bios ROM to 6.2.0.2002.
As such i hope numbers will change when this happens, i can't swear to this but i think overclocking helps HD Tach numbers.
Richard,
Have you tried uping the fsb with easy tune/clockgen? Perhaps this would help? Glad to know they are updating some other things in the bios/raid drivers. I'm very happy with the F7 bios as I've hit easily 480+ FSB...still can't keeps temps down enough tho to make it to 4ghz but 3.8 is ok :p:

HDtech scores is not effected by overclocking, at least on standard HD setup, don't see how raid would be any better since limitation is STILL hardrive.

sry to mention it again but if the reboot with USB connected input devices when overclocking issue could be fixed in the final BIOSes it would be perfect for me!!! (DS4 here)
Something like two cheap 80 or 120GB drives would be prefect for RAID 0, there are plenty of cheap SATA II drives on Newegg with 16MB cache...naturally they won't be as fast as Raptors because of the 7,200 vs. 10,000 RPM speeds.
I currently have a Seagate 320 GB 7200.10 .... Do I need to get the same hard drive to obtain RAID0? Or can I add another SATA drive. And would i need to wipe it out to obtain RAID 0?
The RAID array size will equal the smallest hd size in the array (e.g. 2x 320gb = 320gb disk size. 1 320gb + 1 120gb in RAID = 120gb disk size). I agree 2 smallish SATA II drives for RAID 0 is desireable for system drive.Quote:

Actually the disk size = 2x the smallest drive. So 2x320GB Drives would be 640GB (less after formating of course) and a 320GB + 120GB = 240GB raid array size.
hmmm...been a while since I ran RAID 0...running RAID 1 on my main storage drive now...oops my bad...sorry!Quote:

If the F8 bios doesn't help then I'll be looking for another cpu. The question is which one and I don't think I want a E6400.
Umm Raid 0 Is striping, and it is 2x the smallest size. I have two 74GB raptors in raid 0 right now and get 138.4GB of formated space. I think your thinking of Raid 1 which is mirroring which is a performance drop not a performance gain
All i was saying about the ds4 being available in Europe is that they may not work as hard at it cause its not available to the whole world
