As much as I have panned, slated and disagreed with Charlie in the past as controversial as this sounds... I think.....he has been right on a few occasions recently (awaits flames).
1) He broke the news about Larrabee being axed (and I actually mocked him for this thinking he was making up nonsense)
2) He was onto something being up with Fermi and it's yield problems
3) ATi Radeon HD5870X2 was indeed the 5970
4) Fermi and it's spins
I am sure others will add to the list of recent Charlie dribbles that have been right.
Perhaps Charlie's style has changed because he misses his old sparring partner..... Derek Perez ;)

I agree with you, the second you through say... S.T.A.L.K.E.R Complete 2009 at S.T.A.L.K.E.R or play GTA IV you certainly do need more horsepower and VRAM. I really do hope that Fermi has at least 1.5GB of VRAM (hopefully more). Or that ATi get on with releasing 2GB models of their 5870!

The only people make comment like the above are extreme AMD fans.
I own a trifire setup of AMD cards in my current setup. My only recent benches have been done on AMD hardware and I have already proven this.
This article is still bad news. Everyone knew a2 was already done a while go so it should be no surprise that a3 is just coming in.
NV is promising trying to get a January launch, this article says February at the very best(unlikely) and more likely a march launch. How is this good news?
The thing is its still bad news, but doesn't have the tone that its the end of the world, catasphrophic to the company news.
Stuff like.
Nvidia couldn't even hit 2%, an order of magnitude worse than the most pessimistic estimate. Ouch. No, just sad. So sad that Nvidia doesn't deserve mocking, things have gone from funny to pathetic.
Even the poster child for unprofitable chips, the G200, only missed its clock targets by about 10%, and was only seven months late. Fermi is looking like it is about as late, but 20% down on speed. Talk about starting out on the wrong foot. Even a puppy can take a wobbly step or two soon after it's born, but Nvidia doesn't seem to be able to do even that
What you are seeing is a classic behind the scenes coverup. Lucid has a very interesting product that Nvidia doesn't like, because it threatens Nvidia's noxious SLI tax. The only real question now is whether MSI had its arms twisted or its pockets lined to kill off Lucid based products. Whatever the case, the user loses, and Nvidia unfairly profits. It might have gone unnoticed if it wasn't such an obvious hack job and carried out so badly. And if that isn't a hallmark of Nvidia these days, I don't know what is.S|A
IT LOOKS LIKE Fermi A2 silicon has finally taped out, so the timetables are a little firmer once again. There is no chance of a real launch in 2009, making the chip a shining example of Nvidia's engineering mire.
These are just some of the things that show how much different the tone is.
The most noticeable is the end. Charlie always gives one slap in the face at the end of his articles in regards to nvidia. He didn't do it this time.
He wasn't close to the first to mention Larrabee being axed, those, he also mentioned it the day before it happened. Nvidia and Theo both said Larrabee was axed before hand.
Fermi and yeild problems were obvious to anyone, considering the yields on a comparatively simple chip like the 58xx series. Although I do admit, was was optimistic for Nvidia for a while since I thought they wouldn't screw up considering how expensive a mistake g2xx was for them.
Didn't fudzilla claim the 5870x2 being the 5970 first.
I am not saying he doesn't have good sources, it just that the proof you used aren't the best examples to prove it.
Considering how close to accurate specs Theo from BSN got to the original Fermi specs when no one else had an idea(he got some stuff wrong, but got most of it right), I am surprised Theo website is still being called for another abbreviation. He also did call larrabee months ahead of it being canceled.
I have been talking about this way before this article was published on OCN, actually. I am not the one who is actually under NDA. My information comes from another person who is under NDA who has breached it by telling me and for that reason I do not feel comfortable revealing any details or sources as it may be linked back to the person who told me.
This is all petty and irrelevant though. This entire argument will be laid to rest come Q1. Again, what I have said in the past was all speculation on my part and that was before I had contact with the source under NDA.
I am putting my reputation on the line here if this doesn't come true. It will though and that is why I am completely confident in saying what I am.
The past info on Fermi that you provided that was incorect was not spoken as speculation but as facts that you had much like what your saying now.
Im not saying I dont appreciate the info you try to give us, but when you do not acknowledge that it is only speculation. It makes it realy hard to put much faith into what your saying now.
There's always an excuse for why someone can't verify (or prove if you will) their supposed "information."
More often than not, it's a sign that they don't have as good a connection as implied. :)
How is 003's information different from this pos http://vr-zone.com/forums/519373/gf1...s-coming-.html ? LOL!!
No offence, but "faster than GTX295" is as good as saying nothing.. That could mean anything from Barely faster than a HD5870, to faster than 4 5970's in Xfire..
I don't think ANYONE on earth expects it to be slower than a GTX295, infact it's almost impossible, so your info isn't really info at all, you can't lose
Can we just ban this guy? We don't need people coming in here claiming they know someone that's under NDA. Everything that comes out of this posters posts are nothing but delusions from a fanboy.
Until we get some actual factual info, posters like these need not apply here. Oh, and I know someone with info on the 5890's that's under NDA. I can't tell you who it is though, but I will say that I really do know this guy. ( See how stupid that sounded? )
Speaking of bans, personal attacks are against the rules here. http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/8449/attack1d.png
Touche.
It had to be said though. Any posts dealing with people claiming they know someone under NDA and 'teases' posters, should be a bannable offense as well. It just causes arguments. If you simply say you have info and are under NDA, that's fine. Don't go the next level and tease us with it and telling us what you're posting is true.
That is unless you actually used it, as you can ask anyone that does and they'll tell you it gives the ultimate in gaming immersion, even in older games. A completely new experience. Have a read over on [H], where there are many users with an Eyefinity setup and they all have posted they'll never go back to a single monitor setup.
But nice try! :D
Oh don't worry, we will definitely be looking at these statements again come Q1. There isn't much I enjoy more then revisiting predictions.
But even if the prediction is correct it does nothing to verify that it came from an NDA connection. The only way you could prove that would be to post or have posted information that wasn't public knowledge at the time. If you have, as you say you have, then feel free to point it out.
Agree with me.
Breath boys, breath.....It's not a matter of life or death. Interesting article though and yeah it is nice to see it toned down.
