New BIOS? Max clock limit removed?
Barr3l Rid3r, if You look close, You'll see, that it's DDR3. On TechPowerUp, there's 3 different Gigabyte HD3870 512MB DDR3 BIOS versions. The mentioned one is newest. BIOS ver .760 :P
2 different .070 are there also...
Also the def clock are all 780/950 :)
Giga's DDR3s are all Qimonda 1.0ns?
That's bad:(
Mine has Qimonda 1.0ns. How can I be sure, that the newer BIOS siuts for my card?
I have plenty of PCI VGAs, but I've never "blind flashed"...
Haven't changed the BIOS yet, but now I searched the max core clock without any mods:D

"open_window_mod"; outside temp ~4C:D
Finally I got my Gigabyte HD3850 512MB Ultra Durable card.
I'm having problems though, I can't get Rivatuner to change the core clocks on the card, it simply won't stick.
What version of riva tuner and perhaps ATI Tool do you guys use?
After I plugged the card in my computer my monitor decided to show everything in pink..:D
Everything is pink now, even when I use the monitor with my laptop...haha!
It seems like the monitor got a "pink virus" from the card..who knows?:ROTF:
Anyway, som help on specific programs and versions would be helpful, thanks!
I used that bios (on first page) for 3850 512mb and there is still lock...830 is max...Everything above that freeze...
Any other bios?
Anyone tried the newest Giga DDR3 BIOS?
Same as mine, it did 930Mhz for 3D06 loop using 1.38v but ceemic has a bigger cooler...
P.S. > Don't try latest ver 76 bios, I got blank using that @780/900Mhz
To get recovered use a USB cell-phone and a PCI card (for those who don't have a floppy)
Rev. A12 R670 is coming and it should bring some extra clock
Hmm, that's bad to hear about 76. For what it's ment to then?
Isn't there any way to edit the original BIOS to remove the limit? Some hex values to copy from 3850?
Yup, ATI tool stable.:D
It's pretty obvious Gigabyte aint binning the cores, they only slap the Hynix mems on there (actually downbinned 1.0ns chips :)) and change a few caps to lower the costs, this is a classic product differentiation to meet the market.
I had a hunch about this when I saw that the Ultra Durable design was the same on both 3850 and 3870.
I get a little bit lower stable clocks on the memory with this bios than with the original one...a 2.0v mod on the memory should solve that.
They do not run hot at all @ 950MHz, barely warm actually..so I'm pretty confident they will perform as 1.0ns versions when given their rated voltage.
I'm going to grab a couple of trim pots and do some proper mods instead of pencilmods next weekend.
Barr3l Rid3r, I hate 2006, it's so crappy without quad:D
Barr3l Rid3r, only test@2006 before vmod: http://ceemic.pri.ee/45nm/13858.jpg
Aircooling powwa: http://ceemic.pri.ee/45nm/81153.jpg
Outside temp -1C; Vgpu=1,76V :ROTF:
At the same clock on 3D2003, it crashed several times during Nature:(
Sweet man....
almost as mine, but I Got a DS3 and a cheap memory...

Atitool is better for ovrclocking then Riva?
Good scoor for that CPU clock:up:
OCZ is cheap? :D My A-data 2x1GB costs ~73$/~47€ ;)
