Coolermaster V8, V10

Regarding the V8: Lots of talk. But quit drooling. I bought and installed one. Will most likely take it out when I get the energy. Want to know the biggest drawback to this thing? You have to attach it from the underside of the mobo. You got it. Was going to write a report when I get through testing, but, bottom line, so far it doesn't seem to be any improvement over my IX14.

The installation requirement is absolutely terrible. Want to check and replace the tim? Pull the mobo. Want to replace the fan? Pull the mobo. Want to do just about anything but gaze at it? Pull the mobo. It's attached to the underside with four nuts that you supposedly tighten up with a supplied socket that has screwdriver threads stamped into the top. Problem is, the X-shaped back plate has a rolled up flange all the way around it, including around where the nuts are installed. You guessed it. The socket is bigger than the remaining space, meaning you have to complete tightening the nuts with a pair of pliers.

Just two examples of brilliant engineering on this piece of hardware. There are more but I won't bore you with them. In a word, it sucks. The many positives are more than offset by the negatives. And it amazes me that no one who has actually installed and tested this thing has commented on it.

And, no, you can't jury rig hardware to fasten it from the top side. I tried. Unfortunately the attachment points are well underneath the body of this monster, which precludes reaching underneath to tighten whatever up. Unless, of course, you pull the mobo.

Just out of curiousity. Always looking for the ultimate cooling solution to get my Q6600 to 3.8. :) Saw it advertised for a couple of months when it wasn't available anywhere. Liked the idea of the 8 heat pipes. Then I was in my local Fry's looking for some wiring hardware, and, lo and behold, a whole stack of them. And, yes, it's just about the same size as the IFX14. A monster, but fits my case comfortably.

I just installed one 15 minutes ago and it honestly isn't as bad as you are making it sound.

the V8 DOES look nice :yepp:, i can even say it looks HARDCORE:D but it just doesn't work well. It can't beat the TRUE which has six heatpipes:eek:

Installation was a breeze for me.

But i guess i depends on ur casing....

Yeah, it's very nice to see the newer cases coming with cut-outs for installing/removing today's HSF's.

The ATCS 840 is ginormous btw!

N520-Hyper tx for 1366 processors?

Interesting 5 heatpipes 3 full U pipes, N620 being 6 heatpipes and 4 U heatpipes.

Should perform fairly well for mid range overclocks.

idk why those cooler master looks powerful, but they don't perform that well:p:, anyways i've heard that the V10 will be a TEC cooler:eek:... i bet the price are going to be skyrocket high:rolleyes:

i just got a v8 and to be quite honest for the price :down:
overtighten the support srcrew and :eek: thtreads get stripped:down:
better find some longer screws before you install it
better yet dont buy it and get a true:rofl:
with my true max temp @ 4.6 i seen in prime was 62 with v8 it jumped to 71
it even idles 4c higher

Well, the first line of the review explains a lot. They loved the V8. In my controlled tests of the V8, TRUE and IFX-14, the V8 didn't come close to matching performance. This was using a Q6600 oc'ed from 2.4 to 3.6. I can't imagine testing one of these things at stock settings, otherwise just leave the box cooler installed. Anyway, the V10 adds no more cooling for the cpu than the V8, just now you get to blow more air over your memory. I can post the results if anyone really wants them.

Bottom line, if bling is the primary criteria, overriding cost and performance, by all means get one. :)

The V10 has a peltier, but its a waste on pure aircooling, but its still a huge difference between v8 and v10
