amd allows hp to build crossfire rigs on nvidia chipsets...:clap:Quote:
from article:
If you're scratching your head at HP matching two ATI cards in CrossFire mode on an Nvidia NForce 680i SLI motherboard, we did too. We can confirm that it works, and even with older versions of ATI's Catalyst video drivers. Voodoo's Rahul Sood told us that he worked with ATI and Asus to make this cross-standard strategy possible. He wouldn't reveal exactly what changes were made, but the good news is your upgrade options are doubled due to this innovation, as this system now support both ATI's Crossfire and Nvidia's SLI dual-graphics cards.
interesting sli on x38 next please oh and for the masses
Sorry, my mistake. Thanks for pointing that out on the brand.
Since OEM's like Zippy/Seasonic/Etasis etc, put out much higher quality PSU's.
On a 2500 dollar gaming computer... I would expect a good PSU.
If FSP unit was in a 250 dollar computer, I wouldnt catagorize the PSU as junk.
Now this is interesting. AFAIK, the board in this system is just a standard ASUS crosshair, right? So the can't have changed anything with regards to hardware. Also, they can't have modded the drivers, as that would mean compatibility could be broken with new driver releases. so I guess that means... *anyone got a PLCC extractor handy?*
I... like it!
Looks almost like a server haha.
I dont like oem computers, but DAMN that looks sexy!
hmmmmmm my gf's dad works for HP, I wonder what kind of discount he could get on that?
best looking overpriced piece of junk ive seen yet, jk, it looks nice and i guess it runs ok, but i like the look of the case a lot compared to the old cases :D nice job hp, now just get your prices down a bit and i might respect you more :p:
Sorry but hp/voodoo does not seem to breath the words performance in my book because I got me a DIY/BE that will kick the living crap out of that overpriced vanity fair:D

You must've missed the fact that FSP has actually started to pay more attention to the retail market and been marking some very nice high-end PSUs for some time now.
The Blue Storm series for once is of very nice quality and comes at a surprisingly low price.
It's not junk even when you compare them to the very nice PSUs made by e.g. Zippy. FSP is the world's largest PSU manufacturer, they have the skills to make to make really good PSUs.

hmm, on second thought, the high-end dell xps looks better than this thing. it has a 3.5ghz kentsfield, cooled by water and a tec.
Except the HP looks to be much more upgradeable. Dell uses a BTX mobo layout and a variety of proprietary mobo connectors so you can't swap in a new retail board. Also, the Dell bios provides no overclocking or tuning adjustments other than a choice of multipliers. The HP OTOH seems like it will have the full Asus Striker bios.
1. Looks amazing
2. HDD Calbleless design, great innovation
3. Case us ****ing AMAZING!
4. With some good marketing, this computer will sell like crazy
also there's some info here

Definitely not for the majority of this site's members, but as the offspring of HP/Voodoo, it could have been much worse. If a casemodder here built something like this, we'd be giving him some serious props. HP might do well to make the case available seperately (sexy hard drive enclosures included:D ), although they'd probably be more concerned about diluting novelty of the product.
And as far as the Dell system is concerned, if someone on this site went to the trouble of using sub-ambient cooling on their quad core, got it up to 3.46 GHz, and then said "That's it, that's the final product"... at the very least, we'd be a little disappointed.
Yeah in terms of performance and a far less restrictive bios, as well as the use of standard parts you can replace as you see fit over time, the HP beats Dell silly.
Concerns:
for air cooled gpu's I don't the the airflow is good enough for them
the hd's also look a bit less than adequately cooled
It's a great start however, far better than Dell's first models. And HP has the wisdom to use parts we can recognize as at least being minimum enthusiast grade rather than hiding the makers. The floating design is nice, but I'd have made YL's standard and improved the active airflow somewhat.
Very good first shot though. I'm assuming price will get better as they get better at doing this. For now it's just a premier showcase piece rather than made for the masses.
Though CNET reviews are generalized, they are good for mass consumer products like dig cams, gps units, etc. Nonetheless, the CNET Blackbird review is pretty impressive.
