Ordered from Nerds.Net. Shipped from Memphis TN. 04-18-07 Batch #L644G465.
A rather average CPU with max OC somewhere between 3.0-3.2GHz with 1.5-1.6V.

Ordered E6420 from shopblt, shipped from Tennessee and I got a L644G.
well my question maybe silly, but isnt this processor supposed to be called E6450, as I remember the new generation with 4mb is supposed to be 50 deries not 20 series
ordered my 6420 from ZZF last night for $199 not to shabby since everthing free ship there :D
seems like the 6420 runs cool but its a mixed bag when overclocking
we need a stepping/distributor graph for new potential buyers
when you get your CPUs from ZZF please let us know what the batch code is, L651B518 seems to be a nice one for OC
...TIA

It would seem that the L644G, shipped from Tenn is experiencing some growing pains. :(
6420 now at $185, that's quite good.
E6420, stepping L644G

Well, maybe there's hope for the L644G.
There may be at that...after running orthos blend at 3.2GHz/1.45vcore for 5 hours I shut the system down and ran some errands today. I came back home and just for the hell of it I booted into windows at 3.2GHz/1.475vcore and clockgened up to 3.3. All good running 32M pi. Ran orthos and system rebooted. Increased the vcore to 1.5 and FSB in bios to give 3.3GHz and orthos ran for an hour. Stopped and clockgend up to 3.4GHz/1.5vcore. Orthos blend rebooted within 10 minutes. Rebooted and set vcore to 1.55 and FSB to 426 (3.4GHz) and right now orthos is running along fine (1 hour so far). Maybe there is something to "burning a chip in" as yesterday and this morning this chip would not even boot into windows at 3.3GHz and 1.6vcore set in bios. The coretemps are reading 57/57C at 1.55vcore so again this chip seems to run cool compared to others I have used on this board. And FWIW this $52 open box board from newegg ROCKS. Doesn't have a lot of features but sure as hell OCs chips very well.
err.. $185.97

the cheapest I see is mWave - $189 +7.02 shipping
PotGoblin what is the batch of the processor you got from ZZF?
I wanna get an E6420 but at the same time the E6600 looks like a good deal too, still trying to decide...
I already have an E6600 but it wont OC higher than 345mhz FSB... it will boot at 400mhz FSB but with 1.60v :S and not even stable, I hate my L628A.
That's funny to me because I followed the link, saw the on-hand quantity, posted my sarcastic post...and never looked at the product description that showed it being an E6320. I clearly wasn't paying close attention, was I?
By the way, along with a good price on the E6420, mwave has the E4300 for $117, which is the best price that I've seen for a retail box, even with the $7-$10 shipping tacked on.
Now the big question is, of course, what stepping are they shipping.
Do you people think an E6420 could be overclocked to 3.6Ghz if you get a good one???? (with a reasonable voltage of course)
I would really like an E6420 that could do 450mhz (x8=3600mhz)
I don't have my cpu from ZZF yet - i ordered it last night after I got home from work - should have it later this week.
won't do me much good yet since I am buying my system in 3 stages, got the cpu, ram and psu last night, next week when I get paid again i will probably order another $500 in parts. I hope to have all my parts purchased with in the next 3-4 weeks.
I'm contemplating buying a few of these, testing them, and then selling the ones that aren't the best OCer. But that sounds like a lot of work to test them all, lol.
Maybe I can just drop voltages at stock speeds and see which one will run with the least volts and go from there (kind of like Xeon testing?)
