Hipro, do you know if vref voltage have any impact to motherboard overclockability? I measured voltages straight from my KHX sticks, and vref is about 0.08V lower than it should be. According to Winbond datasheets, vref voltage should be excatly 1/2 from vdd voltage, just like vtt voltage.
I already figured out the fix:
Cut vref traces going to each memoryslots, and solder wires from memoryslot vtt pins to vref pins. Then vref voltage would work like it should, and it would be also ajustable (by the same trimmer as vtt).

This IC7-Max3 maxes out at 292FSB with 5:4 divider. Currently I have VTT, VDDR, Vnorth (1.7V) and droop mods, but still it cant run at high fsb (loose GAT settings). With 3:2 divider it can easily run over 300FSB, but the performance takes a colossal hit :(
Maybe I should continue my endless trip, to LGA775 ERA ;)

yeah 5/4 doenst run real well on my ic7 over 295.. but 3/2 and 1-1 will run over300 with np. (i had i stick of pc4000 simpletech nitro that would run to 310 mhz)Quote:

Hipro5 many people remove MC64 to stablise Vdimm and Abit do it now too is there any reason you didnt remove it for your Vdimm Mod?

UNFORTUNATELY..Those people you are talking for, misanderstood the reason WHY ABIT don't put MC64 on their Max 3 series boards any more...... ;)
ABIT didn't took it off for stabilisation reasons......They took it off because some of the mobos(and I think a lot) couldn't boot up at all with the MC64 capacitor AND the 680 Ohms resistor and that's ONLY for the Max 3 series boards.... ;)
As a matter of fact I've tried that too on IC7 and IC7-G boards..No change at all and a bit worse I could say .......On my mobo except of the MC64 (100nf capacitor) , I've solder another 100nf in paralel with it......NOT exceed over 250 - 300 nf overal coz mobo won't start(bootup) if moded.... ;)

Yes above 2.8Vmem on Max 3 series a cirquit is "in" with a transistor and two resistors so as to archive up to 3.2Vmem......That's the problem.....Even if you have the MC64 on your mobo or unsolder it , the VTT will never be OK......So there isn't a "complete" cirquit running on the Max 3 series for your Rams.......Quote:

After succesfull VAGP mod, I swapped my graphicscard and ripped the upper wire of VAGP mod off :( It ripped the trace off too, so its quite *ucked upp.
So can I just solder a wire between VAGP mosfet and Winbond chip third leg, and perform the mod that way?

Hipro! - you have run into the same mistake i made - luckily i noticed within a minute.
Running that mosfet to 5v, doesnt just supply the VDDR mosfets with 5v...it also supplies the south bridge, the AGP mosfet regulator and the PLL CHIP - not to mention others.....those chips are going to burn up! - my pll chip was scorching already for the minute it was on 5v
Do a continuity test from the output of that mosfet (the drain tab) to top left pin of the pll chip - and ya will see what i mean.
Please see my mod here on how to do it without incinerating your PLL nd southbridge :/

Just done some more thorough checking - the AGP regulator mosfets are not powered by it....the PLL definately is, VDD and VDDA on the ICS952607 are connected direct to that mosfet output where that 5v mod is) and is definately burning up when at 5v - well beyond its 3.3v rating.
Im not 100% certain about the southbridge, but it was getting hot very quick (more so than normal) when i booted the board with no cpu or ram installed (to test and measure voltages).
Its also possible certain lines to the northbridge are coming from that mosfet output.
I'm working with the 5Volts mod over a week and so and I haven't got any problems yet.....Anyways I'll take a look of it as soon as I can...... ;)

What about vtt tracking? Is the normal vtt mod able to handle, say 1.9vtt? (yes, 3.8vdimm)
VTT doesnt have a problem - since it has plenty of headroom with the 3.3v rail.
To get those mosfets off, you will need to use a large chisel tip on your soldering iron (bigger contact area on the metal tab).....it helps if you have got an adjustable soldering station, but it is possible to remove them with a 25 watt soldering iron - altho i recommend something thats 40 watts.
Put the tip on the tab, apply some solder until it flows along the metal tab, then with a small precicion screwdriver try to prise it up - its tricky as you need to keep the iron on it as you do this.
It maybe easier just to toally desolder it (desolder the 2 legs 1st) etc then just solder those 2 legs back on when ya removed it.
I really need a dedicated benching board to try all these cool things!
i was able to replace my vtt mosfet with a 30 watt iron i left the legs atached heated metal tab and lifted with a small screwdriver.the attached legs keep it from flying all over the place

I recommend ppl dont perform the 5v mod for now until hipro has finished checking it.
As i say the PLL chip is definately getting 5v when the mod is performed in this way, and its only rated for 3.3v....it gets scorching hot and i believe it will burn out - it may take a few weeks but i do think it will burn out for ppl who are doing more than just the odd bench - ie. ppl who intend to perform this mod on their main pc.

Yes.......The PLL chip gets 5V from the Rams IF you mod your mobo with the 5V mod......Not the Southbridge.....PLL chip gets hot but with a heatsink on it you can make it..... :D
For real now.......I would suggest ppl not to do the 5V mod IF they don't have heatsinks on their Mos-Fets and on the PLL chip.........After all.......That's XTREME...... :D

GROUND is the one side of the MC371 where one cable is soldered and the other spot is the THIRD spot from the IC and to com and serial ports side (not the CPU side) of the mobo......There's a missing resistor there.... ;)
Where can I measure the vcore?
You can measure in on the sides of the big rounded coils near CPU socket....NOT on them coz they are covered with some sort of varnish....On their sides.....

which mosfets went down.thats what happenned to me testing a 3.2e@3.8 with prime.would appriciat a photo of there location.i let it run overnight and next morning the comp was off.tried restarting but it couldnt.any clues to what happened.tried testing all the other hw and they work.i thought it was the ram mod that did it.couse im not so good in soldering.and as soon as i tried touching the wire on the mod it came off.so i sent it to a guy who fixed the mod and put all the other mods on while he was at it.got it back tried to boot and nothing. :( like the psu tries to start but fails.please helpQuote:

I'm gonna do the vcore stablization mod just after doing the vdimm mod. I cannot solder the capacitor's on the back of my IC7 because i would not be able to put it back to my case. My friend told me to do it another way but i'm not sure if he is right. Please check this out :)
The whole thing is about unsoldering one of the capacitors from the mobo and connect some extra like this www.gorajec.net/Adasi/mod_eng.jpg .
cut a hole in the case so it will fit
Yes i know that's the easiest way but the reason i want to do it another way is that i don't want to cut my case again :(
