@honda I got the ssd back from samsung. I need to talk to you about ocx tuner. I never ever made partitions on an ssd before as far as I know its a nono but regardless, I made 2 partitions on the 830. one for stripped xp and one for waza.
what settings do you recommend for osx on a ssd? My raptor is fubar and all i have left are ssd these are my settings..
I think I'm missing something.

@ CN guys give this dude some praise. he came in out of nowhere on a 3570 and got 6.25.
I think that deserves a shout.

i didnt install the chipset drivers. does it matter?

tRAS= should be tRCD+CAS+tRTP. If DIMMs can do it then tRCD+CAS+2 (anything lower the chipset will issue a minimum delay on that will default to tBurst active time).

tFAW=16 if tRRD is 4.

This will speed up the run a bit.


tRCD 12 is a bit loose with CAS 9 at that freq.

The rest comes down to how optimised the OS is and Waza.

Thanks but TRas=29 is a minimun for this frequency, no chances to set lower. Maybe I could set Tfaw=16 I didn't try. tRCD=12 not good and I know it, but my memory can't do better (
About optimisation the OS and Waza I know, yesterday i tried more time do waza manually but with ocx tweaker it was little faster )

If none of the above works (timings/freq combinations and voltage) and DIMMs are at max every which way then the only place you have to go is the OS (fresh stripped install, correct setup, optimised maxmem and waza). Only thing with that; the increased IO will hit the DIMMs too so it can be tricky.

IMO that's too cut n dried. I've found plenty of examples over the years where IC density has dictated that tRAS has to be increased for stability before any other primary timing.... but too much takes the stability away again.

tRAS merely alerts for the next row activate to the same bank - a page close. And "too much" should have no negative impact on stability unless one has mismatched tRC. What I provided above is the optimum for a page close scenario.

The rest of the performance impact and gains come down to the scheduling and reordering capabilities of the chipset and the corresponding IO capabilities of the DIMMs. On these architectures (and I do believe we are talking about IB in this thread at least), CAS takes general precedence over tRAS as there will be far fewer page misses than column reads :) The re-orderng here is a lot more efficient than what we have known in the past.

Depends what Intel do at the IMC end, the chipset will have to issue the correct spacing. Whether or not that adds a larger delay you guys will have to test. Most of the timings are 4 clock limited due to the length of a burst and will revert to that even though the register set allows lower numbers to be inputted (internally these will = 4). Depending on the vendor, the timing ranges can be different (1 may = 4 and 2 = 5 instead of 4=4 and 1,2,3 just reverting to 4). When the DQ lines are toggling, you cannot send certain commands to the same bank.

Quick list for you to reference if you are interested, it's nice to see you guys exploring these things. :)

1) All same rank (SR) read to read and read to write delays are limited to 4 clock spacing internally due to burst length. Write to read and read to read DD may go lower depending upon how much IO the DIMMs and chipset can handle with the minimum spacing limited due to issues with crosstalk during a burst.


2) tRAS can go to tRCD+CAS+2 on some DIMMs. This is likely possible when there is a burst chop (not to be confused with number 1 above), which is still four clocks in length but with two clocks masked. I have seen no adverse effects of setting tRAS this low on DIMMs that can do it. If tRAS is set lower than this, you will need to see if the chipset auto spaces to four instead of a possible two where permissible - and adjust to CAS+tRCD+2 manually to prevent performance loss.



3) tFAW minimum is 16, as tRRD is internally limited to 4. Setting it lower should revert to 4 depending upon how BIOS is setup. As a rule setting some spacing here (2-6 clocks over the tRRD X 4 value) is preferable to setting tRRD higher because tFAW is only enforced after four consecutive ACT requests to the same rank, where as tRRD is the spacing between each ACT.

tFAW was introduced to save DRAM power without having a huge impact on performance. Latching a row accounts for a majority of DRAM power consumption hence why this timing was introduced. Most DRAM is designed with some tFAW spacing in mind, so being able to run tFAW at its minimum value is very much limited to high performance low latency kits.

Some of the other stuff I will have a look at time permitting and update guides as required with info.

My gaming OS, unplugged my ram and mounted the GTX3... IMC on this CPU doesnt allow anything, Im jinxed! So.... Once I get a real CPU that is capable of running ram at acceptable speed, I'll swap to tweaked XP, but for now, here is something to giggle of ;)

I've been up and down the block and still having trouble. I thought it was due to making to partitions on a ssd for waza so I took the drive off and plugged in 2 separate m4's one for os and one for waza.
still no good. this is my best so far and its nothing compared to what you guys are getting. this is the psc kit i have. the mvg is not liking the TRCD at 10 so its at 11.
one thing i havent done is install the chipset or vga drivers. would it even matter? no net framework. i did maxmem setting. waza. stripped os. I've spent hours with Zeneffect and he has helped me to the point where he doesnt even know what is going on. based on this shouldnt I at least be around 6.25/6:24 area? :shrug:

i should be in the 6.23 region but something is not happening. I'm about to get a new board. I think Charles is suffering the same as me. there is something in the bios that is just not rocking. my os/tweaks are solid gold. something is holding me back. I'm about to call it on the mvg and get this

dino or anyone know of a matx board that is cheaper I can buy as a replacement for the mvg that will not CB. its all going on ln2 eventually. just think the clarksdale cheap days/ h55m-usb3. what is the equivalent cheapest bang for buck on z77 right now?

Drop me a PM with a list of the OS "tweaks" you are using plus UEFI screenshots of CPU config and memory timings (include the timings you are using for the run itself).

What Gungstar said above is correct also. :) To me this seems like a possible UEFI config error and a combination of incorrect memory timings for the frequency used. Get those wrong and the scores will tank.

I am on 100 - is it better to be 100 or other? Only managed to pull down temps twice ... both times crashing when trying to run 32m at only 5.5ghz - but stopped - too annoying not ahving anything to heat the pot up ...another try tomorrow!

Don't use CAS 7 Trans, it's copy is far lower here than C8... you just need a good ram set for this... my TridentX's ( similar to yours, are the best out of my ram sets. ) but don't go TRCD 12 on air at all. Massman still has the BBSE and the good Samsungs RipjawsZ, but to get sub 20 sec needs mega tweaking and/or chilled dimms...

I also saw you were using 4 cores and HT on, set 2cores and HT off... 1 core is again slower then two...

so im playing with psc for now and getting a feel. i have yet to see 2800 on the mems out of ivybridge :shakes:
on the other hand... i have booted 2600 7-12-7-27 :wasntme:

stability is a real struggle with c7 2600 on air. mabye i should try using a better fan. the dominator airflow fan might not be cutting it.

I think you need extreme cold for them timings... air won't cut it, unless you are in Antartica..

i dont think extreme cold is the answer, just more cold. i live in los angeles, if i could get 0-5c ambient... ever, i bet it could do it. as it stands now i have central a/c so i cant ever get the room below 18c.

I use a 12000btu window unit, my wife hates it, but the air comming from the unit is 6c. You can take the temperature sensor out and wrap it with insulation to prevent it from getting cold and telling the compressor to turn off, keeping the room extremely cool . You can get a decent one for around 300.00 at most places.

A dehumidifier also helps in preventing condensation. I keep both running in my little benching room all the time.

Still trying, spent way too much time trying to figure this out. Testing all the ram I have, and this is the best time so far.

Has to be OS tweaks now, the ram is a tight as it will go.

tRCD and CAS at that frequency possibly best time 6m20-21. As for the tRAS, it will be 22 clocks before the burst is made, the page cannot be closed until the row and column is latched, so going any tighter than that will simply force the chipset to issue a minimum spacing. 24-26 is the fastest internal timing that is possible.

Thanks for the help Raja! I was trying anything to lower the time, thats about the best it I can do with the memory I have to work with. Spent a small fortune buying different kits, this happened to be the first cheap 2133 GSkill ripjawsz kit I bought for x79.

Best I seem to be able to do. Can't get turbo to work with my usual 32M OS and can't seem to match it. Also can't come close to the mem clocks around here, probably doing something dumb.

I needed to enable PLL overvoltage in order to post at higher than 2400 divider (2600/2666).
I was struggling and wondering why none of my mem kits don't even post at 2600. Don't know if that's logical (I'm an AMD guy), but seems to work for me.

enable pll overvoltage was necessary to go beyond 4.8ghz[on the sandy days]. msi bios actually enables pll overvoltage if it goes past 4.6ghz[i think] which is a neat feature.

Yeah, I know about sandy, but kept it manually disabled for Ivy while at 5GHz, because it didn't make a difference for the cpu clock. And I haven't tested it with LN2 yet.
This was the key for POST-ing at 2600 memory, but I don't know if there's something other that is wrong with my settings.
The thing is I treid various vccsa, vccio, pch, vdimm voltages and stupidly slack timings, but nothing helped, except enabling PLL. It's on auto by default on MVG and the board enables/disables it when needed.

Well I've been having problems with memory clockings also with MSI Z77A-GD65. I can run 1200 8-10-8, but anything above that is really really hard, or impossible. I have 4 BBSE sticks and 4 PSC, none wont work at 2500 no matter what latency, but on 1200 @ 1.85v BBSE I can run with this settings LINK and I get 6:22.7xx, but there is a lot more in it

Tested with both 3770k, exact same behavior. On M5G, they can boot 2933 with Samsung lp memory

tested some trident bbse on ln2 -150c but going to need more vDIMM to get anything like this to pass, fails loop @ loop 4 consistently...tRAS has been on biotch on all my trident kits... not much better than air timings would pass.... was still fun though :up: looking forward to 2.3v on MVF when released

You need to enable maxmem = ~600 MB and LSC first before doing waza, I don't think it really helps with 2GB+ ram available...the goal is to get all of the running processes out of the ram if I understand correctly.

his LSC is already running but he should try maxmem like you said

Thanks for the tip :up: I did sort of try that but couldn't see any benefit although I'm not done yet :) That run was just server 2003 as is, real time & affanity & a copy.

I'm kind of lazy so my OS is server 2003 LSC & background services are already setup out of the box. I'll play about with max mem/pcilock & shutting down services etc next.

thats a good run c-n. thats about what a 3770k will do w/ 2400 8-11-7-27 1T. if 3750k is anything like 2500k, its a full second slower when compared to 3770k just because of cache.

Thanks Zen. I was thinking up to about a second as Splave commented on here one of his runs was 6m23.500 ish without wazza & my 3570K runs 6m24.500 with the same timinge etc. The only difference was Asus v Gigabyte.
