Where did this BIOS come from?
Printable View
OK, you may have seen this one coming: now that I am stable-ish, I want to know why. Why did raising the NB/CPU, DRAM and the two DRAM Timing Control settings stabilize me?
If this is not the appropriate place to post this question let me know where and I will move it on over...thanx
New BIOS 0705 is on the ftp site now for the M5A99X (and other M5A boards). No changelog yet and still won't allow me to unlock my 720BE (says CPU not supported but unlocked on a M4A79 board OK).
Got my replacement new CFV yesterday after first board was DOA , Tried Bios 0602 but language is other than English & it shows message on post how many cores have been unlocked , using bios 0051 bios with XII 550 Be unlocked to X4 at 3.8Ghz , NB @ 2.6 Ghz.
0038 is my favorite BIOS
Changelog now posted and it just says "Support new CPUs". What happened to "improve core unlock stability" mentioned elsewhere with he later releases of the Crosshair BIOS. Looks like the new AGESA code that is aimed at Bulldozer (according to Raja) might not be fixed to allow unlocking for the older processors.
when's the next official bios release for the Crosshair V?
I hope there's more added stability so I can hit 4ghz stable on my P2 x6
After updating to beta 51 with S3 on Crosshair V, i can't get in to EZ Flash utility anymore. Screen just goes black. I tried resetting bios to default also to no effect.
So i flashed 0602 bios trough windows with asus update which went ok luckily. Still just a blank black screen when i enter EZ utility with 0602.
Is 0602 official or still just beta?
This is the best I can manage so far with 0051 Beta bios , pushing any further is like hitting a wall :brick:

Also pretty happy about idle cpu voltage & speed , but have to manually change EPU setting between Power saving & High performance as Auto mode doesnt lower cpu clock speed & voltage. C&Q & C1E are enabled in bios.

Looks like pretty decent gains for an unlocked 550
Can someone here tell me what is the max amps that the fan connectors on the board would run safely at? Can I run 2/3 fans off off a single Fan channel?
Any body likes to try 0705 beta bios for CVF : http://www.2shared.com/file/rhWbb0ka...ASUS-0705.html
got it from : http://www.asusrog.com/forums/showth...705-Bios/page4
Have updated to 0705 , was able to push my PII X4 B55 to 3.900mhz @ 1.5V which with 0052 Beta bios would not be stable at 3.900Mhz even with 1.54V. Have not changed any other settings on mother board.
Thanks Raja....
Any news about ASUS Sabertooth 990FX BIOSes?
I'm waiting for a new version especially because there is no way, with current 0402 version, to avoid the CPU fan error message at startup, if no fans are connected to CPU_FAN / CPU_OPT headers (as in liquid cooled systems or if, as in my case, I want to control my four 3-pin fans so I have to connect them to system/chassis headers).
I'd like to report that the latest BIOS for the M5A97 EVO has fixed the extremely high cpu temperatures while navigating around in the ASUS EFI menu. I guess the initial release was just loading all cores while in there, and now it is idling.
Haven't noticed any other differences, but I don't have an FX CPU, which is where I'm guessing most of the effort was put.

Im considering buying the Sabertooth, but seeing the LACK of bios support from Asus, is making me think I should look to other manufacturer......
UEFI updates for the Sabertooth are coming - undergoing qualification now.

Any update yet on if we likely to see any BIOS updates (for all models not just the Crosshair)to fix the core-unlock stability problems with Phenom II's? The recent 0705 release for the M5A99X for example just added new CPU support. There was talk earlier that the problem was caused by the BIOS being focussed more towards Bulldozer.
Hi!
Thanks for the information.
Are you in a position to comment on Asus European warranty status?
Im asking as there are many Sabertooth 990FX being advertised on ebay for sale.
Would the warranty on these be Asus responsibilty?
Unfortuntely for some of us, we have no distribution in our country for such products, so we have to turn to ebay for this.............
Finally got around to buying a 9-series board. ...for a customers build, but oh well. M5A97, wonderful value board. I wanted to say how much I love the EFI bios, boot times are reduced and the bios is very responsive. I almost can't deal with my M4A89TD Pro/USB3 now... XD
bingo was supposed to send me an M5A99X Evo to try out a few months ago knowing how financially strapped I am but the package never arrived. I'll get around to buying one eventually it seems, because I run crossfire and I want bulldozer to work well.
Any Bios/beta update for CH5?

Raja, will be in your best some thread about Llano mobo support? Thanks :)
Hi all,
I've got some serious issues with my rig, hope you can help me out. Yesterday my rig failed to boot from a cold start with a blue screen of death occuring in the middle of the boot. Restarted, then set back everything to default. Then booted again but same happens. Then removed the memory, tried with one module, then the other, the same happens. Then on the next bootup the mobo came up with the overclocking failed EM and it reset everything, including my RAID settigns, so I had some restarts again with tinkering on this but again it constantly failed to boot. It was behaving strangely in the BIOS as it showed only the hard drives that were on SATA ports 5-6.
Anyway after the 9th or 10th reboot the board just failed to post with the VGA LED lighting red. Took out the VGA, put it into an other PCI-E slot, the smae again. Powers up the ventillators to max then shuts them down and no screen is coming up et all. Then put in my spare VGA (X800GT), the vry same thing happens, VGA LED lights, no POST, no picture et all, fans spin down after revving up to max.
What is going on!?? Any suggestions?
Config is in my sig.
Hi
I just have the M5A97 BOARD
I search all the bios options to find any way to make my pc start from any keyboard key like my asrock 970 extream 4 or my P7P55D-E PRO
both have this option but M5A97 DIDNOT
it so important for me
Raja, what is the changelog on the 705 Bios you posted for the sabertooth? Is there a posibility to change the Chassis Fan Profile to a lower % than 60? Thanks.
Change-log will be up when uploaded on the ASUS site (should be up within a couple of days). If you need to see the change-log sooner, check one of the other 990FX boards as it will be the same AFAIK. No idea on the fan control you can flash to 0705 and have a look.

Hi Raja,
Is this bios tuned for BD? I only played with it for a few hours, but had some strange results on my Thuban (1055).
The biggest quirk was the inability to use TurboV to raise HTRef >280. Don't get me wrong, I could set it higher, but
the actual clock didn't raise. This was verified by CPU-Z and actual performance tests...
The other thing was it appeared to be running my ram in single channel mode, again as shown by CPU-Z (vers 1.58).
I didn't bother to performance test the mem, but I wasn't able to achieve the same clocks anyway, so I flashed back to 0402.
Overall, I just had alot strange things happening on Thuban with 0705, including the need for hard CMOS resets a couple times.
On a bright note, I backed up 0402 on my bios flash drive before I installed 0705 and when I flashed it back
it kept all my OC settings and everything is back to normal.
Thanks....... Dave
Setup:
1100t x6
RipJaws 1600, 7.8.7 24 2t 1.5v, 4GB
I had same issue with single channel, but it was due to the Bios only seeing one stick of RAM. Then after a reboot it was back to 2 sticks. When in windows, I had CPU-Z showing one of the sticks of RAM having a 10.8.10 24 timing for the XMP profile. The sticks are identical. After a couple reboots, it was finally normal and has been stable. I am only running 3.8ghz/4.2ghz(turbo) on stock voltages.
That's not bad Jay, but you know me... I don't use Turbo and I tend to push things farther than what's reasonable sometimes. :p:
Since I'm running a chip with locked multi's the HTRef thing was the biggest problem.
Like I said, I only played with 0705 for a few hours and the results on a locked chip wern't very good.
Nice clocks BTW for stock v's! I hope 0705 holds up for ya!
Personally though, I'll stick with 0402 on this 1055 for the time being.... :D
L8r....... Dave
0705 UEFI has updated AGESA. AMD are taking things further into the realms of Bulldozer tuning from here on in.

Hello,
We have news about the Crosshair V Extreme ? :)
I tried some HT Ref OCing and had same issues with the RAM. I was going to see if I could do 300+.
On a side note, if anyone was wondering, the "Hot Swap" setting for all SATA ports is no longer called this, it is now called eSATA, but does the exact same thing.
Edit, I moved RAM to different slots and 300ht Ref was no issue.
Just a quick question to any asus boards owner who also own an aquaero 4.0 or 5.0, does the usb work with the asus 990 boards, CHV, Sabertooth, M5AXX, and by work i mean does windows recognise it is plugged in so it can connect to aquasuite software?
I only ask this because until march this year I've been using various different amd 790 & 890 systems with my aquaero4.0, which ive had for about 3-4 years and never had a problem with it working. I decieded to give sandy bridge a try since BD wasnt coming any time soon so i got a asus p8p67 m pro, only then i discovered the apparent flaw in the firmware of the aquaero with asus and evag intel based motherboards. It simply wont connect error code 10 device could not start in device manger.
I havent had a asus board since m m3a79 t deluxe, the aquaero worked perfectly with that, it also still works fine with my gb 890fx ud5 and msi 870a fuzion, just not the p8p67
I have the aquaero 5, and i got it after i got the Crosshair 5 so i'v only tested on this board. And yes there seem to be a problem similar to what you are describing. Like 1 out of 20 times i am able to boot in to windows with the device connected to internal USB and access it trough the aquasuite 2012 software in windows.
Is it normal, that my board keeps saying "Using PCIe Gen. 2 ... Can't find any device" during POST, despite I'm using a HD 5870 in the first PCIe slot?
ok I am a noob when it comes to AMD however the issue that I am having with my Crosshair V is that anytime I boot in to the bios now the first thing that pops up is an error message stating "Invalid Input Range"
my keyboard and mouse do not work and the bios acts like it is frozen. I have tried different keyboards and mice as well as different ports as well as clearing the cmos and unplugging the psu, but still no luck.
google came up with this:

and

Asus Crosshair V Formula : ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/mb/So...-ASUS-0813.zip
wow 0813 ????
Official support and optimized for Bulldozer (0813).
AGESA V1.1.0.0 and such ;)
No more bd love for us ch4 owners then?

Bios 3017 has old AGESa, too old for recent Bulldozers to work. Any news of new C4F bios?
This is probably not the correct forum for this, but maybe someone can direct me where to post this question.
With a Sabertooth 990FX - SSD's in Raid0 - can not enable 1.) read cache status = read ahead and 2.) Write Cache status = write back.
I am using RAIDXpert and can see the settings under the logical drives, but I can not change the settings to enable them.
Any ideas??
Just noticed a new BIOS (0810) has appeared on the ftp site for the M5A99X. I guess this is for BD (no changelog yet) but I 'm interested to know if this version will have to be flashed (using an older processor) before BD will boot?
Not recommended for Thuban.
Yes, I think this one's for upcoming Zambezis... So, I'll stay with 0705.
0810 is indeed intended for BD (latest, AGESA 1.1.0.0).
CH5F @0813 with my x6 @ 4.2
no problem
M5A97_EVO BIOS 810. I assume it is also for Zambezi.
The 2002 bios version for Crosshair IV is even older than version 3017.
It has no support for Bulldozer what so ever (as far as I can see).
Yep. We're still waiting for the bd support u promised us CHIV users Asus.....
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
Is news: AM3 will not be support new FX
I have the Asus CH4E and I have both the 2002 and 3017 bios files ready to be flashed but I was hoping to hear from someone that had already tried the BD in this MB before I bought one.
Has anyone read of anyone anywhere trying this combination (CH4E+BD)?
I'll try it on the CHIV F when the 8120 gets here.
There's the one review site that succeeded to test Bulldozer on AM3 motherboard and it's this one http://ht4u.net/reviews/2011/amd_bul...en/index21.php.
They intended to use ASUS M4A89GTD Pro/USB3 but new BIOS wasn't ready so they tried MSI 890FXA-GD70 with BIOS 1B6 and it worked fine, even Turbo. DDR3-1866 memory mode didn't work but DDR3-1333 worked fine and according to them results between that board and newer AM3+ board were almost the same. (you can see results at the bottom of that page) Still I didn't notice that they try to overclock it.
Hey OT, just got home from work and my 8120 was on the doorstep a day early...
If you don't get an answer, or Charged can't test if for you, I'll stick it in the C4F this weekend and see how it goes.
Gonna have to play with it in the Sabertooth first though.... :D
I actually hope it works. It'd be nice to know I had another good BD board if push came to shove.
I would love to know this too.
This is what Asus states on their official download site:
I assume they mean BD by new CPU's.Quote:
Crosshair IV Formula 2002 BIOS
1. Improve memory compatibility
2. Improve system stability
3. Support new CPUs. Please refer to our website at: http://support.asus.com/cpusupport/c...Language=en-us
If you read the CHIV supported CPU tab on the ASUS site, the new 2002 BIOS added support for the PHII X4 980.
I got my FX-8150 last night and at first I was only concerned about the actual pins fitting in the socket of my Crosshair IV Formula. Looking at the four "blank" spots on the chip (where there aren't any pins) it matches the socket of the CHIV exactly. However, both 3017 and 2002 BIOSes do not work for me with the 8150 chip. The 3017 BIOS doesn't light up any of the LED's by the 24-pin power connection with the 8150 in and the 2002 BIOS lights up the CPU LED, but nothing happens. I've tried with 3 different sticks of RAM, G.Skill DDR3-2000MHz 2x2GB, G.Skill DDR3-1600MHz 2x4GB and OCZ DDR3-1600MHz "AMD Black Edition" 2x2GB, and nothing. Even tried with one 1 stick in varying RAM slots on the mobo and still a fat goose egg.
It's a good thing these companies want my money, they tell you one thing, then do another.
Thanks for that man. That means another 200 bucks for a mobo to run a cpu that performs less than my current one. Hmmm...
Well it may perform less at stock, but what about max OC on both chips comparison?
I'm gonna get the CHV this afternoon, so I'll post a comparison of the FX-8150 vs. the X6 1090T at their max respective OC's under water.
I'm refusing to upgrade my motherboard due to asus boasting they would support bd on the chiv f earlier this year. If i do upgrade my board it will be bye bye asus thats for sure for false marketing....if msi can do it as per that review a chiv should easily be able to.
Funny how they've just released the 2002 bios dated April this week but still no bd bios, like that will do lol. Hmmmm.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
Raja, I'd just liek to ask what, if anything, Asus is doing about the theory (I'll go with theory, as it seems to be slightly better substantiated than rumour, but isnt quite fact yet) that the CHV Formula is causing sub-standard performance will BD CPUs?
He answered that question two days ago in Asus ROG forum here: (look out for post number #4)
http://www.asusrog.com/forums/showth...ozer-UEFI-9911
That thread also has a link for a new UEFI BIOS 9911 for Crosshair V Formula
Read carefully Raja's notes if you're disabling cores inside CU, you may face non-boot scenario.
Guys I think ASUS is too focused on making sure BD is compatible with the AM3+ socket motherboards before focusing on getting it running on AM3.
Chances are on AM3 there will be either a performance drop or your settings etc will be limited...
You can still run a Deneb AM3 CPU in pretty much any AM2 motherboard as long as you inject the later AGESA code into the old bios...
I ran a 565BE @ 3600 and installed windows on my nforce 590 sli board. No NB multi and CPU multi is locked, but what do you expect?
I don't expect BD to OC ram on AM3 like it does on the AM3+ boards.
I am going to get an AM3+ motherboard, but I need to know first, will Asus write a bios that will provide support for any Zosma chips?
I can buy a 960T real dirt-cheap, but Asus will not provide any Bios support for any of their motherboards......why not?
I'm using a Sabertooth with a 960T. Nothing but issues and crashes trying to overclock through the bios, for me anyway.
Right now I'm using AMD's overdrive which I kind of prefer because you can set the basic multiplier as well as the turbo multiplier. I'm not seeing yet how, if at all, I can increase my bus speed though.
If I do it in the bios- it crashes the system eventually. Hopefully ASUS will include support for this chip in their next bios, but who knows how long that might take.
I have just had the 960T for a couple of days so maybe the problem is with my unfamiliarity with it.
i use 9911 with my 1055T
there are many option for memory config but i don't understand those options
http://www.mediafire.com/file/3jo0hm...-ASUS-9911.ROM
You can leave them to auto.
They are meant to maximise the memory overclockability potential on BD.
