Right guys so am getting like 60 c running now kombustor for 15 minutes here is the screenshot with the OC system http://img534.imageshack.us/img534/5397/captureta.png
I thought i'd try and improve the temperatures I was getting with the MK-13's, I also took on board what what someone had pointed out, namely that the bottom card was bending. I replaced the standard heatsinks with some enzotech forged copper ones, used OCZ Freeze for the TIM and lastly changed the fans to 140mm Noiseblocker PK3s (1700rpm).

Definitely not silent anymore but still quieter than stock cooling at load and a drop of 25c load, i'm very happy.
cards bend all the time from heat sinks, it's really not a big deal
Hi guys
Here is Extreme version of MSI afterburner 1.6.0 beta6 with fermi support and voltage to 1.5V
http://www.tunerspotter.com/bios/afterburner1.6.0b6.zip
and here is proof and max possible settings :)
http://img682.imageshack.us/img682/5323/msic.jpg
Enjoy :D
Can you guys link me what tools to use for my 480 testing (have not done much gpu over-clocking in a while - used to use ATI tool to OC)?
I don't see any proof, just a screen shot of current settings; I can set my E8500 to 5ghz, doesn't mean it will stable.
FurMark, MSI Kombustor, and for DX11 Unigine Heaven Benchmark
Why are you like that?! Guy just gave us a WORKING Afterburner 1.6.0.X beta 6. I tried it. If you didn't, that is your problem.
http://www.imagesforme.com/show.php/...8_DSC00096.JPG
My new gtx470. Temps are not problem. 66% fan profile ,temps are in low 70 in game without noise.
720mhz gpu on stock voltage but memory oc is very bad. This card is great for people that are ugrading from gtx260 etc.,but i you have radeon 58xx stick to it,especially if you playing BF2.
Max oc on 1.087 is 860mhz.
i would not use any higher then 1.20v without other mods and a ln2/dice pot....just thuoght i say it thats all.
it works np led :)
I was under the impression he was saying that was his OC based solely on his Afterburner Screen.
1.5V is sure high as hell compared to 200 Series, I know the die is bigger but the voltage limit on the volterra 200 Series is 1.188 (by software). Seems like they are allowing a huge potential for hardware damage.
If the limit was only 1.18V, 1.5V wouldn't even be possible by "software" but it is apparently and GT200 cards are different. It's like comparing 45nm on AMD at 4.0Ghz and 1.5V and Intel at 1.28v.
Smolka, i can bench at 1.21V on water my temps hover in 50's so i don't see how 1.08V on air @ 90C+ could be any less dangerous than 1.2V and 50C. Voltage isn't dangerous at all unless you pair it with high operating temps.
btw, i've just tried 1.4V and 960Mhz, instant crash. Poo colored screen like on the ATi cards.
well actually there is a cracked version of the voltage tuner for the 200 Series that allows any voltage, just not covered under any warranty (like eVGA's Voltage Tuner is)
ur funny man... heaven and other s h i t(furmark, kombustor) can run hours on hardest settings without any crash but in a real game u will crash after minutes... heaven LOL..
super safe oc - occt tool -> gpu test - 10min without a fault is rock stable
normal safe oc - TPU gputool ctp1 -> stability test - 10min without a fault is normally rock stable
gamestable oc -> TPU gputool ctp1 -> stab test
-> just hold down the errors until clusterblobs (for my personal choice i would avoid getting more than 1000 err/sec (cluster blobs included) for stable gaming)
ram has to be super stable, so dont wank around with gpu clocks without being sure that ur ram is "ok" :)
dont be disappointed if ur "oh wow im so cool with mega overclock" setting in reality produces endless errors (u can use furmark in background to push the card faster to an "oc test ready" status and punish the mcu a bit more)
Yeah i'm not a big fan of Furmark either. It's a totally useless pile of junk that can kill your card in minutes by putting enourmous stress on your clocked and overvolted card while not really testing gaming 3D benching stability. CS:S is a much better stability tester than this POS.
best way is occt then ati tool since ati tool found what furmark thought was on to be bad
all so just broke 21k in vantage http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dmv=2185416
i wanna prevent XS from getting noob crushed... Years ago XS was top notch!!
im not english, so my voc is ok, its enough for hardwarenoobtalk. dont feel pissed love.
Lets just say I can't wait for some aftermarket coolers for the 470/480... I can't even OC my 470 right now because of the temps (90c when playing just cause 2?!)
I'd think even a bigger all copper heatsink that fits under the shroud would be an awesome improvement... but who knows.
Do about 3-4 run of 3d mark 06 and check out for artifacts or any other bizarre stuff. If there is none, i can grantee you you will never crash a single time in a game. How i know ? My max 3d mark 06 for a hd5770 is 1075core and 1450 mem. It is now running 24/7 on collatz ( a distributed computing project in boinc) and it has never error-ed a single work unit and i can game with those clock no problem.
At Xs gpugrid and wcg grid, we have a little motto that is : Want to prove your stability come try gpugrid and wcg. You will see what stable really mean.
Also got email from newegg, should get my gtx470 sometime next week.:)

can you redo a vantage run bit without physx activated in vantage plz roch ?
I got a nice overclock on my EVGA GTX 480 on air 1.138v 852MHz Core, 1704MHz Shader and Memory is untouched. I plan to go further once I have my Danger Den water block with my Black Ice 4x120mm rad. Furmark is the olny program that full stresses my card so far, I don't have Windows 7 yet but I will! If anyone wants to offer suggestions about mounting my Black Ice GTX480 4x120mm rad to the rear of my Silverstone Tjo9 I would appreciate! :)

reply to Funcwagen;
Ser your fan speed manualy to 70-80% then you will have much better temps. It is very noisy but you can use headphones when gaming.
man i got sooo miffed at my lackluster results with dice on my 470...i put my stock lapped and modded cooler back on with some dice to cool the air
1860(915)/2040 o6 run 980x on dice

just a few clocks shy of my dice results :shrug:
What is the voltages on your GTX 470? MSI Afterburner limits the voltages to a low value of 1.138v (stock is .98v), I've heard if water cooled you can go as high as 1.3v on the GTX 470/480. What OC utility are you using and what programs do you stability test for GPU/Shader/Memory errors? I find ATI Tool is showing errors before the more torcheress ones do, doesn't make sense why a more stressful test doesn't show errors and ATI Tool shows then when not fully stressing the 480 cards...?
i'm using 1.15v in this ss...the thing is its at no more then 40c.
as for stress testing 06 vantage and 03 is all i use....furmark and the like will send cards to an early grave.
i run stock if not benching
Anyone have 70.00.21.00.82 from an EVGA SC floating around?
GTX 480 @ water ....
http://www.abload.de/img/vantage96619302410_sn29f.jpg
Perhaps you might be able to help me understand overclocking tools, every overclocking tool and/or program that fully stresses my graphics card show no signs of artifacting, yet ATI Tool shows errors where all others do not. Why is this and is there something wrong with ATI Tool that would give false negative errors?
Thanks,
Systemlord.
For stability tests use 3DMark Vantage, for error scan "OCCT GPU test", it works fine with GF100 series.
this was just a quick push 850core mem 4.080ghz mem shader 1700

why is all unlocked bios damaged when I try to extract.
Looks like Nvidia's new beta driver increased DX11 games by a wopping 30fps, I knew it was only a matter of time  I wonder how he got his hands on the new beta as it's not on Nvidia's website...?

Hi
Can anyone with a GTX470 "21" instead of "A1" bios post it here plz?
/wekk
Mate its attached ,Bios is modded to these clocks "700/1400/1800"-70.00.21.00.03
No artifacts with my 470 & there's no need of extra volts
A feedback for ^ bios ... would be gr8 mates , by the way u have to set custom fan profile for the GPU ! :)
thx very much for the bios!
But when I tried it I had much lower fps in games than with the evga 470 sc bios. But that was because I had Xtreme Tuner on with the "21" bios and the bad fps was the same with the evga bios so I will try the 21 bios again and close the xtreme tuner.
/wekk
yes it was the xtreme tuner that reduced my fps
woot woot woot 900 core still 1.162 funny thing is at 1.2v it wont do it recon ovp kicks in

Yupe, default at 1.038v for both gtx480s.
That was on stock cooler.
I'm still waiting for 4Slot SLI Connector to cool them with EK FC-480GTX (Ni+Acetal)

mmmm 5870 or 480
It all depends on whether you want slow DirectX 11 graphics features when they are released, this is Nvidis's Ace in the whole! Nvidia has some beta drivers that increase DX11 frame rates by 30fps on one particular game and that's only the beginning! The DirectX 11 muscle in Nvidia's new architecture and is just waiting to be tapped into! The 5870 is out of gas and has shown what it's capable of with good mature drivers, the GTX 480 however hasn't shown all that it can do yet.

on my GTX480 it's 1.088V in MSI AB - 1.035V real, .05V difference. I should've checked the readings with a MM before. I think i'm getting old.
edit : oh yeah and my stock vdimm is 1.49V.
Same on GTX 480:
http://www.hardwareluxx.de/community...6-post897.html
in my case 1.125vcore @ soft = 1.245vcore @ dmm
@ load not idle vcore
yes i'v i checked with dmm and noticed that with the 470 and 480...msi ab monitoring does pick it up in load situations.

I have in bios 1.063 full load= 1.145V (multimeter) clocks 830/1660/1060.

Furmark measured.
U're right it's 4000Mhz mem actually
Pls do not quote my pic

Just ordered my 2 GTX 480 SUPERCLOCKED from newegg next day overnight shipping. hopefully they will scale better than my quad GTX 295 sli setup.
The new drivers boost Vantage scores by quite a bit. I'm scoring 28k+ and i'm not even at my top clocks yet.
what aboutfor Fermi bios on techPowerUp! VGA BIOS collection?Quote:

Whats the lastest BIOS revision for the 480? mine are 70.00.1A.00.02 and are blue screening in BC2 @ 800/1599/1848 1.025v. (on air, water blocks on the way, waiting for Skinnee results)
Are you sure those clocks are stable? Have you stress tested with the EVGA tools?
Yea your voltages seem too low
yeh your right, after setting it to 1.050v its 100% stable. default is 1.025v! thats low compared to some here ? dont really want to push clock further until under water, the heat from these cards without blocks on 'em is going straight into my tfc triple rad sandwich destroying my nice i7 temps! These things run ridiculously hot

GTX 480, W3520 @ 4,2
NapalmV5 I would like to see a GTX 480 reach 1GHz core clock, now that would truly be an exciting achievement!
These GTX 480's overclock like champs even though they run pretty hot on air! I feel that if your going to invest in (2-3 way SLI) these hot cards one really needs water cooling to get the most out of these GTX 480's! :yepp:
alright systemlord ill give 1ghz a try @ stock cooler
