I'm not sure why so many are shocked at what NewEgg is doing . Admittedly, it has never been done so blatantly but this has been standard operating policy for them for a long time.
The G2 are gone I wonder if Intel got pissed at them ???

deactived item OOOPS
I had a look and they use the Indilinx Barefoot controller and Samsung MLC. I read a few reviews, and although the Intel is indeed faster, it isn't by a huge margin. The Xtreme Corsair are basically right on par with a Vertex Turbo.
They are out of stock at NewEgg, but for $179 on a 64gig I clicked "Auto Notify" :D
I would rather have the Intel for $220 though. :(
No worries mate, I knew what you meant! I just wanted to post my findings in case anyone else was curious.
Buyed today 3 hd's on uk for 175 pounds, the shop have around 40 items in stock
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820167016
It's back. 350$....
MSRP stands for suggested RETAIL price, wtf is with anything over 250$ when reviewers compare it as if it costs 225$
Got myself the 160GB G2, besides things loading a bit faster, not that impressed coming from 2 velociraptors in raid 0.
after reading some real world results not just HD tach benches the RAID O velociraptors are going to keep my home rig going for atleast another year or two.
But if the price comes back down to 220-230.00 I will be getting a G2 for my notebook computer.

SSD is not about max sequential single threaded performance alone;
SSD come into their own when you start throwing multiple things at it at the same time;
encode a movie, run a virusscan, copy data, and then load up a game/app. a RAID 0 HDD config will never decrease in access times, and that's where SSD come into their own; your system with the Intel SSD will remain responsive, while that Raptor 8xRAID0 setup will noticeably become sluggish:)
Got one of these 80gb intel SSD's
I must say it is 100x better than my 2x Samsung SSD's i had in raid 0. They would pause now and then and just p*** me off, this intel drive is much better and is how my Samsung should
have performed.
seems the two things I will be waiting on to upgrade my home setup is
1. prices to stablize since replacing my two paid for velociraptors 600GB using the intel setup would cost nearly $2,000 for 4 160g units
2. in Raid TRIM is not at this time supported thus could lead to slower response when the units are "used" alot.
maybe at the rate prices are dropping Intel will have a 320g unit under 400.00 by next summer & have TRIM support for RaID by then.
I just didn't realize how fast the raptors were in RAID until I saw the charts I posted. Access times are important but I as a user, seldom multi task too many things at the same time but your point is well taken.
I will be upgrading my notebook at work since the SSD makes more since compared to my slower internal drive thats not in RAID.
you missed out that the file transfew stuff is jsut sequential and its all the random small bits of data which is actually SO slow on mechanical HD's that Flies in comparison on an ssd (and thats where you actually notice the diff also) just general stuff will seem a lot faster
You are missing the point of SSD's. You can look at benchmarks all day long, what it comes down to is how much you notice it when using a computer. Things like program start time, or the time it takes to boot windows. Or even daily tasks, an SSD will obliterate the raptors. Windows mainly writes (randomly, you don't even notice it) in 4-64kb sizes. Which in tests are considered random writes/reads. Which is another reason an SSD is much smoother in the use of an OS.
http://images.anandtech.com/graphs/t...3318/19853.png
That picture alone is my deciding factor of purchasing an SSD.
File creation and copy speeds are oblivious to start time and game speed. I'll have all my data and large files on a nice 1tb platter of discs.
Anyone who says that any part of a conventional hdd is as fast or faster than an SSD quite simply has never used much less owned an SSD. The load time for Windows alone with a conventional drive is enough to drive me around the bend now. I doubt that I will ever use a rotational drive for other than external backup.
http://www.platinummicro.com/
In stock here, at good prices, respectable reseller, i can vouch for them.
Iam comparing 600 gigs of RAID 0 not just a single drive and shown in my screen shot that cuts time down alot.
Many cases SSD is faster but is loading a few extra seconds faster worth the cost at this time not IMO.
I was thinking of dumping my raptors for a 160g G2 but not sure at this point thus Iam holding off.
Kinda funny everytime I reload a map on Crysis Iam the first in the room and only takes about 2 secs :D I play under Crush-Libs if anyone wants to say hi
Dude, they aren't doing anything...!
Ever hear of Supply & Demand...? NewEgg usually gets hundreds or thousands of drives, they are getting them 25, 50 at-a-time and SELLING THEM OUT at whatever price they throw up...
If you want a X25-M at a lower cost, just wait till they are available in large quantities. Which should be in a few weeks.
Supply and demand allows them to do that, but it's still quite a yank considering they had them in and were selling them at $230, $440 just a few weeks ago. I got a 160gb G2 model last week from them for $440 because they got a few in and I was notified. I'm typing on that system right now hehe. Just wait it out a bit and they will come back down.
Just got mine for 260$ at buy.com.
Woohoo.
just bought an OCZ agility, when comparing price to benefit ratio, 150$ after rebate for 60GB sounds better than this for 300$ and 80GB
http://www.macmall.com/ttsvr/p/Intel...07~pdp.fhdjfgg
http://www.ecost.com/Detail/Internal...avid=155442295
Macmall and ecost are now in stock. Finally we don't have to deal with neweggs ridiculous price.
"Notify Me" :D
Damn...
I don't know if they are going to steal your money, but things don't look good over a resellerratings. http://www.resellerratings.com/store/eCost
Try for yourself ;) I don't want to use a HDD ever again (except for stoarge). Although for PCs, the benefit is not nearly as big as for notebooks. The 2,5 inch HDDs are very slow generally speaking (especially when you use a 5400 rpm-drive for energy- and loudness-reasons).
Best thing is: you don't have to need a RAID-0-array anymore.
Buy.com still shows them in stock and I just purchased a 80GB version for $228.00 with FREE SHIPPING. If you go the buy.com site you must put this in search to find it "SSDSA2MH080G2C1" If you try just Intel SSD you get the first gen version. It says still in stock with "Very few left In Stock! Order soon -- product may sell out"
Important: Do not use the incorrect terms 'SATA II' or 'SATA III'
The references embedded within the SATA specifications to 'Gen 3', 'Gen 2', or 'Gen 1' are technical spec naming conventions only and should not be used for marketing and product naming purposes.
Terms to Avoid
SATA III
SATA 3.0
http://www.serialata.org/developers/...guidelines.asp
CORRECT AND ONLY NAME: SATA 6Gb/s
Well alas, I simply meant I don't think there is a 1.5Gb/s version specifically.
So is this drive going to support TRIM in the future, or does it not NEED support? Cause that agility series almost looks better then this .... overall
OCZ seemed to adj there prices better, but this review on all SSD seems good.
AnandTech ----> The SSD Relapse: Understanding and Choosing the Best SSD
Yeah I read that but it still left me confused.. it seems to indicate that intel based controllers do not need TRIM .. or that TRIM cannot save them.. or something else which I'm misunderstanding
Performance degradation on Indilix Barefoot controllers usually is heavy than Intel's or Samsung's (without using auto garbage collection on the beta FW of course), wathever, intel claims TIRM support for Postville SSDs...
So the G2 are the postville SSDs then?
hi, just a question... I installed win 7 RTM x64 and if I buy the G2 drive, It will work better than on win xp ? what do you think about G2 or first model anyway? one seller on ebay told me that his driver (not G2!) with new firmware works better than G2 .. how is possible?!:confused:
thanks.
hello :) .... do you know if this shop sell and ship to Europe (Italy) ? here we have very foxy sellers... the change dollar/euro here is very funny
if the official price in dollar is $ 299 , in euro our sellers, especially in Italy, they make pay € 299 :shakes:
so, I think that when is possible, is better to buy directly from USA... but not always is easy to find where...
if you have some advices, I will be glad :)
PCWorld.fr speaks about a mysterious X25-V in the end of the year from an Intel Slide Roadmap.
Somebody has newz concerning this SSD ?
I just ordered mine and have only used Vertex before. Can not say G2 is better than G1, but all the benchmark and articles out there say that G2 is slightly faster. If you install on Vista or Win 7, the disk should be alligned automatically. If installed on XP, you need to allign the drive first. After that, usage will probably show about the same, although some threads in this forum say Win 7 especially loves SSD's. I know for sure that for best results, I will flash the firmware from Intel that supports TRIM, then install 7 on it.
Don't know about that ebay guy, sounds like he's lying to me.
I would assume the V stands for value since we already have the M = mainstream and E = extreme.
When the 34nm drive came out intel has slide that showed in q2 2010 the x25 will get a speed bump.
Btw here's my new 160gig g2, is that 90mb/sec i see in write speeds? :)

No, the blue part is incorrect. I'm not sure what you're trying to pull here, but you are wrong. The specification is called "SATA Revision 3.0". This is a hardware enthusiasts forum. It's use is perfectly correct.
See for yourself: http://www.serialata.org/technology/6Gbdetails.asp
Once again, "SATA 6 Gbit/s" is only the product name, not the name of the actual specification/standard. It even says so in your quote. So, don't give me that thumbs down bs.Quote:
SATA Revision 3.0
"The new SATA Revision 3.0 Specification builds upon the current market success of SATA, and will help solidify SATA as the predominant storage device interface technology for the foreseeable future."
- John Rydning, IDC
On May 27, 2009 Serial ATA International Organization released the Serial ATA Revision 3.0 Specification.
Sweet just in time I went back to the site and now OUT OF STOCK.. I ordered stuff threw BUY.com before and I guess it is coming from BEACHAUDIO which also ordered threw as well with no problems. It says I should receive the drive today. wow I doubt it came from NY that fast, probably from a CA warehouse.. Looking forward to try this out on my ASUS RAMPAGE II GENE x58 setup.. :yepp:
It looks like the G2 Intel SSD is definitely the drive to buy. Difficult to find one in Canada right now, unfortunately.
Do you guys find that 80GB is enough for an OS/App drive?
Find a German/EU seller that ships to Italy (I would guess most do).
I am getting 4x160GB ones from Germany next week.
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...odlist=froogle
ZZF is pulling a newegg now on us.
http://www.superwarehouse.com/p.cfm?...ecode=SW09W002
In stock with these guys. Better than ZZF or newegg.
IMO Intel will start flooding the market soon now that the glitches are over.
If people just wait a couple weeks and let ZZF and NG sit on the stock they got prices will drop rather quickly.
Holiday season is still along ways away so if everyone sits tight till Oct 1st prices should be reasonable.
379.99 for a 220.00 retail part is redick
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820167023
or
629.99 for a 440.00 retail part
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820167017
Yeah, you just gotta sit it out for a little while till the other retailers get them in stock, then it will drive the price down. I was lucky to get one at compsource for $235
Compsource has them in stock again now for $248, superwarehouse is the best deal for now.
My 2x80 raid 0 test
http://i28.tinypic.com/e6vvon.png
Weird.. one 4k is 45mb other is 66mb
They're not testing exactly the same way.
man, maybe you don't understand a little particular: in italy we have very unbelievable prices.. in germany usually is better, but for the moment, every shops ask very much for the shipping cost.. for example € 30,00 (43 $)
I often buy from USA and they ship by airmail very fast and for very cheap price if you compare our prices..if i remember, 15 $ , or when i was unlucky 25 $ ... nothing if compared with our € 30,00 betweeen our nations..:shakes:
at the end, in europe, for the moment I must to pay your 350 $ (€ 240,00) I think that it is too much:down:
Go look at what two WD Velociraptors do at 4k chunks in Raid 0 and then you will see how impressive these numbers are.
This should put things into perspective (single disk numbers, but they make my point):

Also, don't forget that most RAID controllers have a lot of trouble keeping up w/ SSDs. They were simply not designed for the kinds of I/O that these devices bring to bear when multiple SSDs are hooked up to one controllers.
The good controllers that can utilize SSDs in RAID fully cost more than the SSDs.
I think some of these etailers are shady. I bought the 160GB G2 a few days ago from a place called PCUniverse because they claimed they were in stock.
The next day I received a backorder notice...
I am well aware of how impressive the numbers are when compared with a mechanical HD ;)
I own a single Vertex 60 and I get 29 mb/s on 4k reads. Intel exceeds in the 4k area. He should be getting far higher than 23/24 mb/sec on a dual 80GB Raid0 setup.
I suppose if you looked at your own charts and compared them with the Kersh's results, you would see roughly linear scaling for 4k writes, but a strange non-growth in 4k reads.
Buy.com has them back in stock at $228.00 with FREE SHIPPING-----------> H E R E
Price is already up to 265$! Fing Buy.com.
Find the same thing too, just now. That $265 is not directly from Buy.com, its from BeachAudios. A $228 was listed there an hour ago.
BTW, $238.88 at SuperWarehouse, http://www.superwarehouse.com/Intel_...G2C1/p/1568657.
I bought a 1st gen a month ago for around $220 and it included a $20 bay adapter(a fairly nice one)
have fun waiting half a year for a single digit real world performance difference.
Xlink problem is the G1 is overpriced too :( and no TRIM
Don't forget 4% cashback if you go to buy.com from the bing.com portal. ;)
Hey guys any special links to getting this new 80gb V2 drive up and running. My pack date on box says JUN 24 2009. Do I need to do a FW update first? The only system I have running at the moment is a Windows 7 64bit, and I have been getting BLUE SCREENS lately so I am afraid to run a FW update if it tanks the drive with a blue screen. I think I need to throw in the drive now to see what FW the drive came with.. Any info help would be appreciated..
