wait ?
For all waiting for new eye-candy: In the process of updating all MDPCs, I came to the original murderbox of 2007. If you want to see a little bit of history and get some wallpapers: click me softly :)
Cheers Vullf!
I think Daniel has had to wait long enough - the next stop will be his house. :)
Very nice David, cheers. :)
Thank you CryptiK!
I still have a lot to learn; fortunately there are so many talented folks in this community to gain inspiration from. :)
Thank you hoax; I really appreciate your words of support. :)
golly how time flies!
Thank you Nils - your friendship has brought out the best in me... what more could a person ask. :)
Project Update: There’s still a bit of tweaking to do but we thought rather than make you guys wait another week, or three, we’d at least finally reveal the “slight twist” in Daniel’s build. :yepp:
It’s actually a slight twist on internal lighting.
Personally, I was never a big fan of CCFLs or strips of LEDs; there had to be a more elegant lighting solution that blended with the evolving direction of style and aesthetics. It struck me one day; one of the most flattering and dramatic light sources is the photo studio softbox – why not install a softbox within the computer. The TJ07 was the perfect case to test this concept on by designing and installing a softbox right on the midplate. The objective was to create a diffused, evenly lit panel that radiated light and could be drilled through for LC hoses – all while providing just the right amount of illumination to the contents of the upper section... without being overwhelming.
After extensive design and prototyping, we feel we’ve nailed it. Although the light panel looks very simple, there’s actually much more to it than meets the eye. There’s a special material within the outer box that provides the diffusion. Essentially, the outer surface is for looks; oh and to keep the highly toxic "light emitting" chemicals contained safely within which is why nobody should ever attempt to take one apart! Doing so may result in impotence or in some cases, an erection lasting longer than 4 hours.
While this is still a prototype, we’re pleased to say that we’ll be offering these yet to be named err… murderlightboxes at our shop. We don’t have final pricing yet but should do within the next few weeks. Obviously these models are designed for TJ07s but if there’s interest, we’ll also offer them for other cases in the future. More details and completed build shots to follow.
I will say that the luminous effect on internals surpasses our expectations – especially things like hoses that pass through it and CPU blocks and motherboard bits and ram and sleeved cables and, well, everything lit by it looks pretty sweet!
Without further gum flapping, we present the first glimpse at Daniel’s sLight twist...

It'll look better with all the innards installed and internal case parts powder coated black, but at least the wait is over!
Thanks for looking in. :toast:
Amen, it was well worth the wait! But of course, I already knew it would be. :D
D.
OMG Charles, that's the kind of concept I was thinking about. I love it.
This one have to be in a museum.
As usual Charles you never cease to amaze me with your skill and creativity - you are truly a master :yepp:
I agree that this one belongs in a museum.
Keep it up
Fantastic work there, you always seem to come up with ideas I wish I thought of first!
I hope to see some Lian Li versions of this in the future :yepp:
Charles, if you ever come up with a Lian Li MurderBox, I'll buy one for my server, so this one won't get lonely :).
D.
Speechless...
Man, what do you smoke to come up with such great ideas?
If only i was half as creative. :D
Very impressive. I also love the shot with the Vancouver city lights in the background. Looking forward to seeing this build progress!!!
Wow.
Charles, you know me, now I want one.
And price is not an issue. ;)
Wow, very nice. You are making me rethink my next case purchase.
Well Charles theres a reason your MDPC 002 indeed, an addition like this says to me "I need to go bigger" if I want to stand next to the best builds of this coming year  :bows:
Charles: Great day.
Wow, i bet that will illuminate a PC extremely nice
GOOD WORK
wow charles, that looks amazing
you know you keep rewriting the books man, i cant believe your still barely scratching the surfaces of all this.
you sir are an amazing man
Now that's an original lighting idea. You are elevating casemodding to new heights.
Wow! beautiful Charles. I have to ask, are you going to do any other cases other than the TJ-07. I have a great deal of Soldam cases, I would love to see modded.
Looks good, how will it effect cable management?
temjin reinvented!
beautifull Charles
Charles...
New request: Hi-Res Backdrop pics with that beautiful nighttime skyline of the city. ;)
i would have to say that this piece is exquisite...
truely amazing
great job
Wow..........................
You're taking your designs to the next level, it's just simply amazing.....
looks great! will there be one in the top of the case above the graphics cards too?
All you would need to change the colour is a cheap lighting gel (the gels they use to change the colour of stage lighting in theatres). Cut to fit, and attach to the light box. Project done.
You can even get those gels in many different colours, and for dirt cheap.
Love it. The light module is lovely. You take great pictures too
BRILLIANT (No pun intended....ok...maybe a little :D ) Idea!!! :up::up:
I love it when someone finds something new and different, showing us that there is no end to the creativity to be found with modding!
Inspiring photos Charles. It's great to see that another one of your ideas developed into something fabulous. I'm just wondering what's next up your sleeve.
Excellent work!
Wow.
I’m truly overwhelmed with your comments and support guys; thank you sincerely!
Your words of encouragement motivate me immensely. We’ve got stuff we’re working on that we can’t wait to reveal. I’ve learned my lesson about premature announcements so for now I’m going to keep my yap shut, my nose down and just keep plugging away. :yepp:
This is an amazing Community with so many talented people and such a positive vibe. Huge thanks to all of those who work behind the scenes to make this place possible!

Zen frog!, and yeah, that's looking incredible, cant wait to see the next suprise
Wow, great idea Charles, your inspiration inspires me! :D
Can't wait to see what the next "twist" is...
I love murder Mod TJ07!
I've to congratulate the creators by the great work that you can do with the sleeving! Congratulations!
Now, I'm waiting by other mods with other cases
The background is simply stunning. Hats off to you for such impressive designs!
Wow that mod looks wicked sick...
Im just speechless. I used to despise the TJ-07 case but this thread has just totally convinced me to buy one. Just a shame i dont have the skills or tools to do similar sort of work with such attention to detail.
Charles. You are very talented and I believe there is no one to oppose that. I really like the extra time you put in every detail and your work has inspired me a lot in my build. Check it out if you want:
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=206381
It really strikes me that you are using very similar methods as I when building, measuring and cutting. Also I can see all those things that are so unique for aluminum. When you first post a project like this many people might think that installing 3 pleds like this is a jiffy, just cut three holes and mount the displays, right? Not really, measuring and getting everything lined up perfectly might take hours. Although you've got acces to a water jet things might not be as easy as it looks. What really impresses me is the accuracy of everything. All the mounting holes and the depth of the counter-sink. For me, drilling a hole is a three-step procedure. Take a 4mm hole as an example. First I take a very sharp "cone-drill" and make the first alignment of the hole, Then I drill the hole with a small drill, like 2-2.5mm, then finally I take the 4mm drill and enlarge the hole. This is to avoid the drill-"sliding" as much as possible.
What surpriced me though is that you didn't mask the surface when using your jigsaw. You managed to get those typical scratches created by it. Although they aren't deep, I personally can't stand the look of them whilst working on the panel, so now I always mask the panel of before doing such work (leaving the marking on the panel unmasked though, I see you found out that you get a lot better precision by marking directly on the panel rather than marking on masking tape).
Take care man, love your work!
Wow Aluchill that is a sick build, thanks for bringing that to my attention.
master case modder + master photographer :P
Amazing! I just hope it doesn't fall of that ledge.
Cheers DragoonXX!
We've got lots of stuff on the horizon. Now we just need more hours in the day. :)
Cheers twwen2. :)
I'm really anxious to showcase how it looks loaded with internals!
Thank you norim_13!
Hopefully the wait won't be too long. I can say that new designs are a high priority. :)
Cheers Eddie3dfx!
Thank you Blacky!
I must say that when I first saw your post, I thought your sig was intended for me. errr... it isn't is it? :)
Thank you Scubar!
I built the first murderbox on my living room floor with very limited tools. Obviously a lot has changed since then but I'm a firm believer that where there is a will, there's a way. :)
Cheers NysoO!
I'm a massive fan of your work and have been deeply inspired by your recent project. Thank you for taking the time to make such nice comments - I really appreciate that. :)
I'm wondering if maybe those "scratches" you're seeing are possibly the lines caused by the bending brake when the angle was formed. They're very noticeable in the bare aluminum but won't be an issue after powder coating. I can tell you that all the surfaces were properly prepared so as to achieve a perfect finish after powder coating. After all and as I'm sure you'll agree, it's all about perfection. :yepp:
Thank you lkiller123!
Cheers hotwaxisbad. :)
It's funny you should say that... it was indeed a concern - luckily there was no wind!
Thank you Rocky!
Project Update: Nothing exciting to report I'm afraid - parts are at the Powder Coater... cables are being sleeved... It's small detail time before the big assembly. Making sure all the little bits that can hold up a build are on hand. The finish line is starting to draw into view. I will say that there will hopefully be a little something interesting revealed near the end of the week but that's all I can say for now. Not because I want to tease... but because it's not for sure yet. :)
Thanks for looking in. :toast:
Absolutely amazing photos and design Charles! This look a-bloody-mazing!
Keep up the great work mate!
Charles ... you are my guru :)
I know how you feel with that one, for me, my build keeps getting held up on account of two main things- money and time
dont have the money go get the parts I want (and Im not even going for ultra high end.. a GTX 260) and I dont have the time to just sit down, clear my head and plot/ doodle/ figure out how I'm going to do what
final build is going to look stunning
I do have one question for you (Hoping you might have some experience with them) http://www.mainelectronics.com/heatshrink.htm <---how is their heatshrink? I'm looking into getting some of the adhesive lined, I just would like to know what kind of quality it is (cheaper than ordering from cableorganizer.com, much less shipping cost)
Thanks for the images of the drill bit! Don't worry about a part number, the pictures will do just fine! I'll see if I can't find a similar bit somewhere around here. And might I say that's a pretty spify idea you got there with the sLIGHT twist :D! It all makes sence now!!! Excellent job with it - can't wait to see those final images of the finished case!
P.S. And to think that I thought that "Aboot" was only how us maritimers talked, lol!!!
Mike
Wonderful Photos, and of course beautiful case..
awesome job man
Just when you think it cant get any better than this Charles just bumps it up another notch
Great work m8 :D
I'm dying for an update....
*bump*
Thanks Brenton. :)
Cheers Malik. :)
I'm a HUGE fan of your work and photography... always inspiring!
Sorry for the late response.
I've been in that shop just once. I will say that glue lined heatshrink is great for some apps but I've found that good 3:1 thin walled stuff offers a much better result. Less bulky for one thing. When I first started sleeving PSUs I was using the glue lined stuff and it added so much to the thickness at the connectors. My advice (if it's not too late) would be to go with the thin walled 3:1 stuff.
Cheers Mike. :)
Thank you r0ssos. :)
Thank you Mr_Mike!
Cheers Tims!
hehe, I know it's long over due. :yepp:
Truth is, it's hurry up and wait time. Got a bunch of stuff going on behind the scenes - just nothing worth reporting on just yet. Looks like instead of shipping the case to Daniel and have him create the upper loop, I may be doing some of it. We're discussing what the best course of action is ATM. Certain Mips may be making the trip to Canada only to be turned around and sent back to Europe. In any event, there'll be plenty for Daniel to do!
Another thing is the EK reservoir. I'm not a fan of the puny little clear plexi holders that come with so I ordered a set of the beefier black ones. Problem is they don't fit properly - the res just slides through. This got me thinking that maybe another solution is in order so I got to work on designed new mounting brackets (murderMounts?). I had an idea for a "floating look" and came up with a concept that's going through prototyping now. I'm sure you guys would rather wait till it's complete and see it in action rather than some crummy renders. ;)
Still waiting on the powder coating. Well actually, it was waiting on me. I was hoping to go down and photograph the whole process but I've just been too busy. I gave them the go ahead today to run the job and I'll have to try to shoot the next batch. I thought some of you might like to see the process from start to finish. Maybe I could even resurface zen frog!
nah, I havn't ordered anything yet...I've still got a bunch of heatshrink I've ordered from performance PCs, but the main thing I was looking at the adhesive was for fans and SATA cables...I use 1/4in for fan cables (black with red tracer, not available in a smaller diameter) and i've been finding that it occasionally slips around, same with the heatshrink i've done on SATA cables...I can either get a good grip on the connector end, and not so great on the cable itself, or a good on the cable and not so great on the connector endQuote:

When can we expect to see the case with components inside it? I am interested in seeing how this thing looks finished!
Man,... I cant wait to the the final stage of this project, opened this thread everyday waiting for an update.
:up::up::up::up:
Wow Charles, i'm really looking forward to set my eyes on the res holders. I don't like the black chunky ones and the plexi ones are prone to breaking.
I had given it some thought myself but couldn't really come up with something nice, i really like to see your solution to this. ;)
Haha, looks like I could read some xrays off that light box :)
Can you do it in pink? :)
I love you Charles, Nils, so inspiring :) Inspiring me to work out how you make your parts so I can thieve the ideas ;)
Charles always keeps Blushing us with his finest parts ;)
LOL! Was that meant to be dirty Yil? Or was that meant to suggest something else and we hit the language barrier? :D
Coz HOW DO YOU KNOW CHARLES PARTS WOULD MAKE YOU BLUSH? :D hahaha.
I think I just hit the language barrier over there and could not find the right words.
But everytime I take a look at my MurderMod its pure sex!! :P
Blushing should be Stunned;);)
Thanks for the comments Guys! (and Gal) :)
I know its been a while but I assure you stuff is going on. For one, we're waiting on LC parts. Ok, that's not really stuff going on per se. There is the final version of the lightbox being made; oh, and the res mount prototype - we hope to have that Friday. Another thing we still need to figure out is how to mount the 4 SSDs Daniel is planning to install. There are a few multiple drive enclosures on the market but availability seems to be an issue. The goal is to incorporate the SSDs into the existing drive cage up front. Perhaps something will have to be designed and fabricated for this purpose.
Powder coating has been done and I was anxious to assemble Daniel's PLED mount and make sure there were no unwelcome surprises. Fortunately, it all went together perfectly which of course was a big relief. :yepp:
What's an update without pics...

Daniel, I'd like to say it was a stunt double I was holding over the edge but I'm afraid it was yours. Now that I think about it, had my hand spazzed out or a horny Seagull flew by and spooked me, it would have fallen 300 feet. Probably not the smartest thing to do but I'm pleased to report that it is now safe and well protected - wrapped in a blanket of foam. No more shenanigans... promise. ;)
Thanks for looking in. :toast:
Superbe Charles like always
Cheers my friend
That turned out great ..... Can't wait to see all the little "twists" incorporated into the final build
Amazing.
I always had a soft spot for clean and slick modding. The PLED support really looks great - factory-spec.
Dude, I freaked out for a second!
Pls don't do that with the fully assembled case! :D
It's really nice, seeing how perfect it all comes together.
D.
sick:eek:
w00t3rs!
very nice Charles, the powder coating has a very nice finish.
Oh no - the blue man group lost one of there members. Now we all know your real identity .
Charles, please post some pictures of the case with installed side panel too. BTW: N1 work
WOW Charles, great craftmanship!!!!
Looks like you feeling like a brain surgeon!!!
SUPER+
Gr Yil
As usual Charles your work is amazing - I cannot wait to see it fitted to the case :yepp:
Keep up the good work my friend
Very clean Job Charles.
Excellent work Charles!
It is evident now why the extra piece was used over the PLED's. Who would want to look at those screws, that would have been an eye sore and completely out of place in such a well put together masterpiece.
My God thats hot.
Fantastic work as always Charles!
Its good to see such well thought out plan coming together as perfectly as that :)
Stunning and breathtaking Charles!
/heartattack
He is using gloves... His perception is: modding is surgery... And I always admire clinical approach.
Super clean and solid execution, Charles. I'm waiting patiently for final product.
Hi!
Congratulations by the great work!
Can you post some printscreens of the software used to control the lcds?
Thanks
The quality of that is jaw dropping, very impressive.
Hello Charles, first off let me compliment you on the fantastic work - as always.
I have a quick query for you, if you don't mind.
In this image I see you have some very interesting stand-offs.
I'm presently faced with a hardware challenge in my Prometheus project, so I am on the hunt for stand-offs/rivnuts/etc - whatever I can find that will make life easier and with no sacrifice to aesthetics.
Do you mind if I ask what are those standoff assemblies you are using?
Is it just a screw+nut+threaded pipe?
Two by two... hands of blue.
I say MurderMod needs to build their own robotic arm, for the sole purpose of holding pieces of their projects while they are being photographed.
One of the most simplistic cleanest looking mods ive ever seen Charles
Bloody good work :)
I'm overwhelmed with your comments Guys; THANK YOU! :)
Your support motivates me immeasurably. :yepp:
Langer, I chose to go with cylindrical standoffs from Digi Key. I used "brainwashers" - a discovery of Nils to provide the base for the standoff. Without the brainwasher, the standoff would be loose since the base of the screw head would have made contact with the standoff and not the aluminum plate (because of the countersinking). Does that makes sense? What's nice about the brainwasher over a normal washer is the recessed seat that the standoff sits in. While it may not serve as pure function, I really like how it looks. They also really enhance the visual appeal when used with screws - not to mention protect powder coated surfaces from chips since they're plastic... I guess that makes them functional after all.
I hope this answers your question - I'm really looking forward to seeing what's next for Prometheus! :)
It's very funny you should say that - one of my aggravations is not being able to take better action shots while working. I'm trying to figure out a solution so I can get good shots while working with both hands. I've thought of a tripod but it seems so cumbersome and would likely break the work rhythm. Perhaps a robotic arm is the answer indeed! :)
Project Update: Still waiting on the final light panel which is kind of holding things up ATM. It should be any day now and once its done, things should start moving along nicely. I'm working on a mount design for the SSDs and have some interesting ideas I'm hoping will work out and ultimately compliment the build. I could easily go pure function but I'd like to first try something a little creative. Of course, it will either be great or a bloody eyesore... Oh well; nothing ventured, nothing gained eh!
Cheers. :toast:
Ahh it's the 'brainwahers' that made it pop for me as well, I've never seen a washer with a rolled up ledge like that. It actually looks like it could be a kit the way it fits together (MurderSpacers maybe? lol).
Thanks for the info mate... and as for the headache that is Prometheus I spent the past couple days baby sitting a CNC machine - Aerospace grade Carbon Fiber cutouts will be posted soon.
Thanks a lot for the info mate.
Ah Ha ... I have finally figured out the source of Charle's ability to make these amazing transformations of otherwise boring objects into such works of art:
http://shazza53.smugmug.com/photos/4...87_mU5aJ-S.png
Cheers Guys. :)
Project Update: The murderLight panel is done and I'm very happy with the result. There was actually a funny moment earlier tonight as I was taking a few quick pics. My wife came in and said: "wow, that's really cool". Here's the thing - she's never done that before which either means I'm really onto something or you guys will hate it! :wth:
Still waiting on the Mips chipset blocks that Kirk is having Nickel plated but I thought I'd at least give you guys a peak at what the illumination does to a motherboard - keeping in mind it's recessed...
http://www.murderbox.com/uploads/DSC_7339.jpg
I think once all the innards are installed, it's going to be really something!
The res holder is in final production after a round of revisions - hopefully pics in the next few days. The other custom job are the SSD mounts which have yet to go to production. Truth is I'm still wrastling with the concept. I'm hoping to spend some time on the design over the next few days. The rad has been mounted and once the Mips arrive I'll work on the loop and drill the holes through the murderLight for the hoses. I'm really anxious to see how that looks! :yepp:
Short and sweet update - thanks for looking in and Daniel, thank you for your patience! :toast:
oo lala that looks beautiful. looks like the boards getting some studio shots done:) well done Charles
That is simply amazing that is all i can even say
