Thats what I'm using and I'm still getting the cold boot issue.

My 920 does 4 Ghz but i need 1.5 volt & 45 idle
so i settled for 3.8@ 1.35 volt 200x19 and 10C less with ht on
Im going to stay with this untill this is fixed( I hope)
my everyday OC

Any luck yet? :D
When it comes to this coold boot issue, that's something I've experienced with my Asus P5N32-E Sli nForce680i motherboard, my Asus Striker Extreme motherboard, don't think I had it with my P5Q-Deluxe though?
Anyway, this seems to be a Asus issue and not a motherboard issue in my opinion and is a real pain in the arse!
If that coold boot issue will start to haunt me, I will just keep my Rampage II Extreme until the Foxconn BloodRage, DFI LanParty UT x58 or something arrives and get good reviews, and then I'll simply RMA it and replace it :)
I don't have cold boot issue but I'm using regular PC3-10666 memory and I don't run OCed all the time. I only did a few CPU Up Level OCs to a i965 to see how it runs and it ran okay although SuperPI freezes every single time when running the 32MB test. I guess either my memory or CPU sucks, so I put everything back to stock and just run it that way. No money to buy higher speed memory, so I will never know if mine has the cold boot issue or not.
working on it ramguy, I should have it on later today!!
Here you go ramguy, I had to improvise a bit!!

Heres my OC, got it stable @ 4.2 HT disabled 1.440 volts on cpu.
I know its too early to tell but 1.440 cpu volts should be pretty safe for a 24/7 ?

Nah, that's a crapshoot. I noticed that if Uncore is much greater than QPI or the memory speed gets very high I will lose channels, but not always, even by a long shot. And when it starts to happen, I reset the CMOS, re-enter my settings and I'm back to normal. Something else is causing this.
ATM, I am running 4.14GHz with 1800MHz DRAM (3600MHz Uncore, and 3960MHz QPI) with no problems...
Also, after cold boot not happening for a couple of days, I have had it happen twice in a row in the last two days (today included).
I am also having the cold boot issue when overclocked. Currently running my 920 @ 3800 mhz with 1.35 vcore. I will post all of my bios settings here shortly for others. :)
Ok, anyone having cold boot issues and NOT using a PCI based X-Fi sound card? I know guys, but please humor me. :) Thanks.
im using just 3 gtx260's. i have all onboard stuff disabled.
i only get the cold boot issue if i leave the machine at a high memory OC when i shut it down for the night. im using gskill black PI 1600mhz 3x1gb
Question for everyone: how many of you have noticed that older 2x1/2x2gb kits OC better on x58?
Ok concerning the cold boot issue, i think i'm on to something! I've set my RAM timings manually. Especialy this one "DRAM Back-To-Back CAS# Delay", AUTO sets this value to "0" and i have set it to "18".
Since then i'm cold boot issue free, 3 days and counting  Can you guys test this and confirm if this is working for you?

OK. I can confirm that setting is the one. However, setting the DRAM Back-to-Back CAS# Delay setting to 18 causes a huge hit in memory performance (cuts it in half according to Everest). I simple set it to the lowest possible manual setting of 4 (BIOS sets it to 0 in AUTO) and the cold boot issue is gone and a minor hit in memory performance which I can make up on other settings anyways.
Good job..maybe we should be working at ASUS???:D
PS - This also fixes the sleep issue I was having earlier. I can now come out of sleep mode without issue as well!
Good to hear that this is working for you to  I didn't test it with Everest yet before i was sure that the issue was gone! But you did it for me, thx for that :D
ASUS, interested :ROTF:
Yes i noticed that to ;)
well your answer is a crapshoot  this is on my board :yepp: i dont use the uncore and if i overclock my bus speed to 150mhz and leave my ram set to 1600mhz 1.65v my ram drops down to 4gb, when uping the voltage to 1.7 and higher it drops more down to 2gb, down the volts to 1.6 i get all my ram back, i have more testing to do tomorrow.
Just curious.. If asus ever release new revision of this motherboard, will you be able to RMA your older revision board for the new one?
Do you even understand what crapshoot means before you decide to run your mouth? Maybe I'll point you to a definition...
crapshoot - http://www.thefreedictionary.com/crapshoot
Next time bite your tongue please....nobody was insulting anyone.
Now that we got that out of the way, are you on an R2E or EVGA X58? Because EVGA has some serious issues with memory it would appear...and this is a R2E thread so quite likely EVGA experiences will not apply. Also, what do you mean by "you do not use Uncore"? You cannot "not use [it]". Uncore is part of the CPU and it stands for everything that is not CPU core (yay Intel engineering team, great name  :p:), i.e., cache, IMC, etc., and it needs to run at minimum 2xDRAM speed.
No. That would be an equivalent of a mass recall. That is not the point of an RMA. But it would be nice if that's how it worked. :p:
I have not tried this yet, but this seems to point to a memory incompatibility issue. Can't say that R2E does not have this problem...also, I would say you need to test this out over a couple of days, or at least in my cause I would have to as cold boot problem does not happen all the time...
Maybe this board just needs a nice warm blanket and some tender hugs to run nicely
Hm... It kinda sucks that their customers will have to pay for their mistakes! Has Tony even guaranteed the new revision or are those just rumors. (btw ordered my gigabyte board :) hoping good results)
Sorry about that sounds like some thing some one said to me awhile ago, im running a evga board and memory support has got alot better with there new bios that come out, when i mean i dont use uncore i leave it on auto, and seeing we both have the same problem, can u test my theory out please, when u oc your system to 3ghz just using the fsb and your memory set to 1600mhz on 1.65v, when ocing to 3ghz your ram run at 1800mhz even more when turbos on right?, do u lose memory running at that oc or not? if you do just try gropping your ram down to 1.6v would be a great help. what did asus say about this problem, i email evga they havent got back to me yet.
Guys, I have the R2E with Corsair 2x2gb 1600 cas8 memory. I am oced to 4.2ghz and I never have this coldboot issue....
Can anyone confirm the rampage 2 fitting into a cosmos s case with tri sli 280's? Im looking at geeting this case but have read that the rampage 2 needs 10 expansion slots to fit tri sli 280's. The cosmos s has only 7 expansion slots...
It will fit but you will have to bend the power supply brackets upward to let the PSU sit directly ontop of the Filter on the bottom. As it is right now it will not fit because the cosmos s has a PSU bracket/stand on the bottom. Just barely not enough room. Like 1/4 inch short. But like i said just do about 5 min of work and you can get it to fit. If you don't want to bend it you could dremel it off.
It Won't....You need at least 8 expansion slots at least and most cases only have seven, like the cosmos 2....Luckily my Lian-li PC-p80 has 10!!
http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/fullimage.php?image=9987
actually, i guess you could if you did that, but isnt the exhaust of the 3rd card blocked then??
Also you could actually mount your motherboard one slot higher and get it done. Because mine has a wasted slot at the top of the board. The hole's in the mobo will not line up in EVERY spot but they will line up in about 5 out of 10 spots. enough to safely secure your motherboard to the mobo plate. But then again, your I/O Plate would'nt line up right. I'd just do a little dremeling. I can't believe coolermaster did'nt just fix this. It's not like they would have had to change anything major. Just needed to cut out a extra slot. The metal is there to do it.
Too much effort. I guess i will settle for the lian li p80. Is this case good for air cooling? Cause im tossing between this and the thermaltake armor +. Both have 10 expansion slots.
Is the corsair ram TR3X6G1600C8D on qvl list?
I love my pc-p80, I bought a side panel with a window and added 2 120mm side fans. It definitely cool very well with air. The Thermaltake Armor is not as good beacsue it is steel not aluminum. aluminum has better cooling properties, but the Lian-li is more expensive!!
I have the armor + and it is just fine.. Only issue I have with it is that I don't know where to put my Black Ice GTX 360. I can easily fit it on the bottom, at the expense of the HDD bay, or I can have it standing straight up at the expense of room. Its a nice case, but if going for an expensive ($500+) watercooling system as I did, hindsight I'd invest in a MM case...
I ordered the radbox to do just that, but I dont know how it will look yet, as it will be here on the 23rd. I was also thinking about putting it on the top, face down, and drilling holes through the plastic box above the drive bays. I think may look dope too. Too many options... Ahhhh!
edit : on a side note, Tahoe is my favorite place in the US. I moved there for a year right after high school - delivered pizzas in Incline, then worked at Heavenly... Oh, to be young again. Or to be old enough to retire!
I just used a couple of old 120mm fans, removed the fan part sanded it off and just used the frames and long screws with wahers to mount it!! I didn't even have to order the rad box!! Here is a pic!
<a href="http://s246.photobucket.com/albums/gg118/Shagarama/?action=view¤t=sean_7.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg118/Shagarama/sean_7.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
Looks good! I have the 6000WBS, though, so it is slightly different than mine. Same concept though. Thanks for showing me how it will look. I think I will probably go that route.
Np, make sure to post some pics when your done! ;)
I tried everything that could be tried. No joy. The board I got is simply defective. I did find that I had better but not perfect results with the Corsair HX620 power supply. YMMV. I've got my Newegg RMA lined up and am packing up the board this weekend. Dissapointing. Hopefully I'll have better luck on my second board than you. If not, back it goes. $400 and it's got to be perfect.
I've been stretching the time out hoping to get another shipment/revision. But if I get a second defective board I'll ask Newegg for a credit towards another manufacturers board. They've been pretty good about making exceptions for me over the years. Spend a lot of money there. I'd give it a try if I were you.
Damn I was about to order a rampage II, but I think ill pass after some reading here :(
The reason for the cold boot issue, I think, is not random. There has to be a common denominator existing between all the users that have this problem. Replacing the board is pointless as I neither think its revision based nor relating to certain batches of the board. Incompatibilities with certain users hardware, coupled with too young a BIOS seems more likely. Anything could be causing it for some and not others depending on their setup, too many variables exist to pin this down as to 'that' or 'this' ATM.
I say we wait until we get a bigger picture of the overall situation, along with whats certain to be numerous BIOS updates forthcoming.
Yes, $400 or £300 is quite a bit for a board, but we all knew that before we bought the thing, and after all, this is a board to get ones hands dirty, and that's what we are getting, immature hardware running on immature software, I have faith, give it time to develop and we may just reap the benefits. :)
I wouldn't return it. It will get fixed with a bios update. I'm almost certain that it is due to memory timings being too tight with certain types of ram (as Asus always wants to be the first and fastest out of the gate typicaly). Something really useful would be a list of what people are using for memory and the timings.
I agree with your statement 100%. Now if we can only get Asus to realize there is a problem, so we can get a little closer to a fix. After my lengthy discussion with Asus's tech support (support supervisor) they were unaware of the cold boot issues. I did what I could to convince them there is a problem, I even sent them I link to the Xtreme Systems forum, but I have a feeling my words fell on deaf ears.
Even though i'm not going to buy this board, i want to help you guys out. I'm almost certain that this has something to do with ram. I havent heard any complaints from people that are using adata ram. But not everyone with corsair ram has this problem. It's kinda weird.
Btw i checked the qvl list and corsair dominator 3x2gb 1600 cl8 is actually listed there.
Yes you configured memory the same, is the rest? His mem settings may work with the rest of his hardware, it may not work with yours? Take overclocking for example, one guys settings may work perfect for him, does that mean if you have EXACTLY the same hardware, it will work for you? CPU Batch can make all the difference between a great overclock and a good one, for another example. ;)
GOD ****ING S**T!!!!!!!!!!!!! WTF IS HAPPENING??? This HAS to be the BIOS!! People who are getting this have usually different hardware. The only thing that connects you is ram, but it's maybe just because everybody buys corsair ram for this.
Well actually one of my pals have this board and i want to help him because he's a very good friend of mine and he has helped me alot. And as i'm still interested in this board i kinda feel i want to do something to solve this.
Have you already tried different bios versions?
Different note, I hit 225 bclk, no cold boot problems using gskill pi's 6gb kit.
what dram volatage? QPI volts? Mess with any other voltages?
hmm.. perhaps it's something with the BIOS, but as the exact same issue exist with MULTIPLY Asus ROG - boards, then I guess we will never see any fix for it :(
Nice one! Did it lower the temps?
It seems like things are a bit tight there? You think it will be possible to have a Thermalright TRUE Black with 2x 120mm fans, along with three RAM slots and that black PCI-Express x1 slot occupied and still make room for that HR-05 heat-pipe?
It's a good thing that it's easy to RMA the motherboard upon this cold boot issue, so if I get the same issue on my new board getting here on Monday I will simply swap it with a DFI LanParty UT X58, Asus P6T6 WS Revolution or Foxconn BloodRage, depends on which one of them I find the best..
As the Rampage II Extreme got the highest price-tag as well, there is no worries about having to pay money for whatever replacement board I want!
But it's very disappointing though, I loved Asus for a few years back, the past 1-2 years they've just gotten worse.. Lots of wacky BIOS releases, faulty boards, lots of RAM incompatibility, cold boot on ROG - boards, you name it?
Can't say I'm looking forward to install my new Asus Xonar HDAV1.3 Deluxe Audio card either, it's supposed to give you a bluescreen every time DirectX Audio kicks in? Doesn't sound promising for my gaming at all, no need for the new DS3D GX v2.0 and full support for Dolby Digital TrueHD and DTS(HD) Master Audio on my Creative Gigaworks S750 7.1 speaker system if I bluescreen all the time.
But it seems to have become the habit of Asus lately, release lots of boards.. Tossing barley tested BETA BIOSes everywhere making their premium customers BETA testing their products for them?!
I'm curious...
Do you guys having the boot issue have a lot of fans connected via the fan headers? Or rather connected to the fan headers nearby the CPU socket?
Also does manually setting the CPU Clock Skew and Differential Amplitude make any difference to cold boot issues?
I've experienced on an Asus P5Q where setting up the NB and CPU Clock Skews manually to the right values it made the system a whole lot easier to boot after power cycling the PSU.
Just to make sure I understand this correctly. Cold boot problem is where you get a hang on DET DRAM after switching the PSU off, unplugging it, and switching it back on again right? Then it may take a couple of tries to get it to post?
Yes, I have 4 case fans and the CPU fan.
I have not idea what that is. (CPU clo...............) I'm only a weekend tweaker.
The cold boot issues I am experiencing are different. After the computer is shut down (with PSU still on) I only get a brief flash when trying to turn it on. After that I have to turn off the PSU, wait 10 seconds, and turn it on.
Anyone with no-corsair ram? gskill, adata, ocz...?
...
Try disconnecting all but the CPU fan off the fan headers, and let me know if it helps. There could be plenty of things causing this kind of problem, but it appears from your description it's power related. It could be something as simple as the VRM overdrawing current on the 8pin ATX for a brief instant when you power cycle.
In an effort to keep the NB cool I have put on a Rampage Extreme auxiliary cooler and now a Koolance CHC-125 cooling block, now it reasonable.
My question is sense the memory controller is on the CPU now instead of the NB what is the NB doing to make it run so hot?
Or is it where all the heat pipes come together and thus you are getting heat from the other components??
NB is still PCH pcie controller hub, which runs all the 36 pci-e 2.0 lanes inclusive of the 4x pci-e DMI link to the SB, and 2 x QPI to CPU. Additionally it does transaction scheduling, queueing, etc for all PCIE and SB traffic to the IMC/CPU.
So there's quite a bit of heat generated still. Just not as much as before.
What is this cold boot issue exactly? I searched the thread but I don't quite understand.
Hello.., tried a lil SS on the RE II.. 920..
Bios is 0705
Run my 1866 Corsair at 9-9-9-24 1.6
4870X2 out of box
Strange though.., on air no prob going 1.55 v-core and more.., but with SS.., 1.5 is cap.., over that and boot gets stuck at "vga bios".., havent searched it properly yet...
Ran this 06 with relativ tiny v-core...

I on;y had to bend it so that the watertubing wouldnt be in the way, If there was a little more slack in the tubing, it would be fine....The True black would fit no problem. You should be able to have it straight up and down. It doesn't go over 42C on the NB using Asus Probe. I don't know if this is an accurate program.... It shows way higher voltage on the cpu than the bios or Everest. If i set 1.55 in bios, it shows a range from 1.59-1.61??!! WTF?? :eek:Is there a better temp program than these for x58?

Wow, I wish someone had a change log for this bios! Hopefully not in hungarian, that is the hardest language in Europe! I had a girlfriend who tried to teach me once..........it was a no go :(
Editing........... Hold on.
