Nice result Chri$ch!
I just hit order on my Ud5 and 920...
No, its ~58% OC :D (2.66 * 2 = 5.32Ghz = 100% OC ^^)
Vcore is a bit high for the speed imho, running 4500 air at that speed.
4ghz stable at 1.25v
3400mhz @ 1.120V ( air, Intel boxed cooler )

Nice CPU, my 920 need 1.36v for stable (prime) 4Ghz :(
hehe, i have only crap memory -> need a good tc kit :D
Edit: my first SLI test on GA-EX58-UD5 (8800GTS G92 SLI)

i don´t know because i have no tri-channel kit :(
I did 4080 MHz with the 920 and Corsair Dominators shown 6 posts above, that was with 1.5V though which may be a bit uncomfortable for most of you.
Can someone give me a hint.
I have a Gigabyte X58 Extreme (F3 bios) & i7 965 & 2X 1gig Corsair 1800C7.
On an X48 my memory has done 1960MHz @ 7-7-7-20 2.1v
But on this board I can't get it below cas# 10 @ 1600MHz
Currently on BCLK 133, memory 2:14 1860MHz, uncore on 28X. Vtt 1.50v. IOH core 1.30v
I set cas#9 & it posts with cas#10.
Nevermind, two days of frustration & it turns out it just sets cas to 1 higher than what you set in the bios. tRAS also.
Bios set 7-7-7-20. I tried setting cas to 6, but no post. Any chance CPU-Z is just reading cas# wrong?

Whats the best memory to be using, I was going to by a 6GB Kit but didnt want to rush for the bad overclock memory straight away, any ideas?
For what i read the locked versions need a bit more voltage to establish the high bclock, don't think its realy needed for cpu speed.
this i can do @1.39v with a proper fan at my true cooler, room temp 22C , no case.

Chri$ch how can I switch 130W TDP protection on ex58-ud5?
Thanks in advance :)
can we use any ddr 3 ram with i7 or something special like triple channel ?
Currently 3.81 GHz here on a 965 using 158 Bclock.
The P6T automatically raises vCore if you leave it on "Auto" and raise the Bclock. I passed 12 hours of Prime95 with Asus' auto vCore of 1.42, so I'm experimenting with lower vCores to reduce temps which were edging over 70C.
Failed at 1.25 but it's passing at 1.30, yay!

What do you guys think would be best for achieving a 24/7 4000-4200Mhz on air stable?
I checked hwbot and noticed that the 920's get capped at around 3800 or so while 940's and 965's are neck and neck at 4200-4300Mhz. I was thinking the 940 would be my best choice. Mobo will be a Rampage II formula (if DFI get's nothing out in one month).
What do you think?
Able to hit 3.8 GHz on a i7 920 on a gigabyte x58-extreme.
Using air cooling (TRUE 120).
Vcore 1.375V
QPI 1.260 V
190 FSB
8:2 RAM
36x QPI
16x uncore
Temp max: 56 C (good airflow)
One thing I'll say is that bringing the uncore multiplier below 16 made it so I couldn't even POST past 3.5 GHz.
I'm also running into a weird situation with RAM (like a previous poster here), where it adds 1 to the CAS latency in CPUZ.

just bought today a 965 @ 3835A538.....
waiting for mem and will start playing..
Are 3 sticks of RAM needed for a setup to work, I am waiting on my other set of G.Skills to come in the mail today hopefully. So when I pick up my setup later I will only have a 2x1GB set to work with.
you can also work dual channel..
What's the setting called in the P6T bios that turns off TDP Protection?
It downclocks the CPU when it overheats
oh my bad, its CPU TM Function, cpu configuration > cpu tm function
although i left it on, and i haven't seen it downclock my cpu yet, then again, i only let it run at 4.3 for like 5 minutes lol
Thanks!
i think it was dr who on another thread ...with the exact term "wont go in a great ball of fire"
Every reviewer says the Core I7 920 has locked CPU multi, so 19 multi isn't possible, only 20 plus turbo is possible. How are people getting 19 multi?
No, multiplier from 12 to 20 is unlocked. only above 20 is locked (or max 22 with turbo on one core or 21 on all cores)
Oh, right...kinda like the E6600, I forgot about that. So that makes the AC characteristics of the mobo all that more
important (regarding the Bclk).
Another question...are all the various clocks/multis adjustable independently? For example memory clock, unclk, QPI etc.?
I'm wondering if there are going to be other bootlenecks that will keep a 920 from achieving it's full
CPU OC .
anyone tell me how hot these are getting under a true...btw I'm hoping to join you but I have to wait for a little more funding before
Anyone know where I can buy a i7 CPU cooler in the US?
You can get this adaptor: http://www.jab-tech.com/Thermalright...X-pr-4323.html
Only works for certain Thermalright coolers though. Anyone know if there will be converters for watercooling blocks? Specifically the d-tek Fuzion rev.1.
Here is a pic of mounted Fusion v1 :)
I didn't tighten the bolts on the motherboard left them loose so they can go through fusions plate holes :) than thighten the block down - the resulting pressure is very good - of course not so good as proper retention kit but until one is released I'm pleased.

P.S. Should change my hoses as they are two years old already!
Does not matter what i try after enableing turbo boost i canot select 21x or 22x, computer boots into windows at 21x but as soon as i use ET6 to up the speed the turbo turns off.
There must be something wrong. It would be good if Setfsb worked with Gigabyte EX58 Extreme.
U can't select it, the chip does it automatically. If u have turbo mode on, do something demanding, the multi will jump to 21. If you disable 3 cores, and do something demanding, that 1 core will have a multi of 22x

have you install the jets
how are your temps for the (North / south bridge)
is there any settings you have found that help the overclocking
what uncore, dram volts & are you using
cheers

From what i read, the Uncore multi needs to be at least twice the memory multi, or it won't post.
I'm still somewhat confused about the QPI multi's. Looking at BIOS screen some boards call them 18x, 22x, 24, on other boards it says 36x, 44x, 48x.
Perhaps some of the bios programmers are confusing GT/s with GHz.
6.4 GT/s = 3.2 GHz i believe
Very nice my friend
Hi,
I never bought the jets so I'm without.
Never watched how are NB and SB temps and I think GB UD5 shows only one chipset temperature.
The overclocking was pretty straight forward without much fuss I've just set the settings in BIOS and voila there it was working like a charm on 3800mhz :)
Below I apply screens of EasyTune with my settings for 3800Mhz.
nice mount you made there, creative.
My first tests. :)
BTW: Only on air with a Noctua NH-U12P. ;)
i see quite high temps here...what are the default temps on load ?
i've seen a test with 70°C+ on 100% load / default clock, so what temps are safe with this i7 ?
75°C its ok ....
My i7 920, VID : 0.975 ;)

That's coil whine and comes from overloaded or overtemped PSU's. Be careful. PSU's start to get ineeficient if they are ran past 80% of their rated specs, and they can fluctuate, have poor ripple current properties, and droop past that.
Never really found this out... Would running lets say 1.75v memory kill a i7? Sorry for noobiness, thought that it may have been fud?
Nobody knows yet. Until it's tested over time it could last a a day, a week, a year, or maybe more. There is a thread about that in the Overclocking section at the top of the forum though. People are posting what they are doing so far, but nobody can draw any conclusions from it until it is tested over time. The safest thing to do is to stay in psec unless you can afford to replace the CPU, and don't mind the risk. Anything outside of specs is obviouasly risky. Of course we already know that.
Thanks man. Looks like I'll have to look around for new memory, not worth 300 dollars to save 100 bucks... :(
Had a little time today and pushed the memories a bit further :stick:
Still 1.6v in bios 7 8 7 :cheer2:

i920 unlocked downwards, heres a quick validation of the msi platinum I havent had time to oc it but i just upped the fsb to 3ghtz without increasing any volts. Was real stable. I have to learn how to clock this board, Runs good on my cheap kingston ram 6bs in tri channel. This board has ol school dip switches also and is a monster compared to my old X2.

I was wondering if I could get some help with my sig rig. Basically trying to get 4GHz to bench with tri-channel(one set of my HZ's was in the mail when I got the setup on monday, so been running dual chan) and haven't had any luck. I know I probably am overvolting things, but it seems to be the only way to get anything to work. For cooling I am using a CoolerMaster Hyper 212 with MX-2. I've included a link to the ram I am using and pics of the BIOS screens for overclocking. If anymore information is needed let me know and I will update asap. Sorry for the size of the pics.

there is a 1366 version of the V8 available (seen in one place here) and i've seen a socket adaptator for cooler master products and socket 1366
is the +0,5 volt limit between qpi/dram ans ram bus or vcore and dram bus ?
if its with qpi you'd better be carefull...
isn't your clocking issue due to turbo mode enable and multi on auto ?
@Gligy
thx, fine settings for just 1,6v! But i need more than 3GB. Hope the 3x2GB Kit will do fine too =)

Hey....anyone for a X58 memset development?
Just received a 920 - 3837A768 testing it tonight :D
If anyone needs to figure out the right base clock and multiplier combination to run the core, uncore, ram and QPI close to their maximum values, i made a little tool like the one i made years ago for the Athlon 64. (see sig)
Just enter the maximum MHz that you know your core, uncore, memory and QPI bus can do, pick the right cpu model, and hit the submit button.
I just kinda got it working and i don't have much time to work on it, but it seems to do a pretty decent job so far.
There might still be some multipliers missing as I'm still trying to find out exactly which ones are available.
Especially the QPI multi is still a little confusing because some boards have 18x, 22x, 24x while others call them 36x, 44x, 48x.
On the form the QPI speed should be entered in MHz not GT/s. For example the stock QPI speed of the 965 is 6.4 GT/s, which is 3200 MHz.
(Still debating on if i want to get an i7 now, or wait for 55nm Geforces to get a new setup)
overclocking these things are tough...what are the biggiest things to watch out for...im using evga x58
