Hmm, I wonder why samsung and not Micron.
As you know priority for benchers is GTR because no other chips can run so tight timings and subtimings. I had a hope that P5Q3 will be a good DDR3 board for benching wolfdale but apparently it's not (yet).
The best candidates are still Blitz xtreme, P5K3 dlx (both discontinued :(), asus evolution and maybe a gem 790i
For the time being the safe bet for wolfdale extreme overclocking there's only one candidate, the Asus P5E64 WS Evolution.
Stunning board, great performance, and extremely high average FSB overclocks.
The P45 stars aka P5Q Deluxe, P5Q3 Deluxe, Biostar Tpower i45 and Gigabyte GA-EP45-DQ6 & GA-EP45T Extreme can reach high FSBs as well, but with the DDR3 issues at the moment they're not your best option.
Plus, the average FSB overclock "yields" are higher for the P5E64 WS Evolution. ( I've tested 11 CPUs on my P5Q3 Deluxe sample the last 4 days and I haven't managed to get a single CPU stable for 32M @ 600MHz FSB no matter what ( yes, it could be my bad luck on both the CPUs and motherboard picking ).
My hopes for high FSBs with the 790i are now gone, since my best stable FSB overclock on the Striker II Extreme is 575MHz, and the average is around 550MHz...
Can somebody tell me why there is a difference between the to programs
what is the speed of my memory?
I have a single stick 1X2GB OCZ Platinum edition, and I keep getting BSOD in Vista. Has anyone here managed to stabilize this memory on the P5Q3 Deluxe yet?
Keep everything on "auto" include vdram if you over clock change just cpu volt

ASUS just released 0904 BIOS, it looks promising. Tony or I will have more later today.
Im not handing the 0904 out, please don't PM me for it. I was asked to test and not leak the bios, so it stays that way until Asus say its ok to distribute it.
What is with you guys and the Evo board, its just a cut down P5E3 Premium on the whole, is it not better to just use the daddy board and not the offspring?
we love the challange! it is like masochism. :)
its more to do with manufacturers trusting each other, if someone tells me to test but not leak thats what i do, if they say test and leak out for you guys thats what i do.
Im not here to p155 anyone off.
i do understand it, Tony! :)
looks good! E8400 @ 3.6

This bios works for me.

Test at your own risk, not official but most likely will be.
Post feedback please.
im using the 904 now.
Weird issue on overclock. if i completely shut down and boot back up, sometimes my OC doesnt stay. Like it was say Overclocking failed, press F1. Any insight too this? This was even before the 904 BIOS
New AI Tweaker option is in 0904 BIOS

It's not a memory/system bandwidth related option mate.
I have an idea to test this option, and I'm also waiting for info from my contact.
Alright. Then I have something to go off there. Thanks!
I can't get stable at a higher FSB with a lower Multiplier. I don't want to push my Vcore, and my NB voltage too high. I pushed the Vcore to 1.30 and NB voltage to 1.36. Even that was not stable. I don't know what a safe Vcore would be with this E8400, and for the NB. Apparently my screen shots were not stable. Prime 95 would error out in about 10 seconds.
Right now I'm at 3.6 with a 9 Multiplier, and auto NB voltage. VCore at 1.25 this seems stable. I would like to get close to 4GHz but not sure what to do. Am I missing a setting?
HALP!! haha

There we go
Says
VID = 1.2250
There lies the root to your issues. If it is requiring 1.225v just to run stock [3Ghz], then running it higher will require a whole lot. Your VID is .05v more than mine, and my CPU runs at 3.16Ghz [.05v may sound like a little, but with CPUs it is a lot]. I guess you got to chalk this issue to having an average joe CPU. Sorry man.
Some Voltage measurement points for the Asus P5Q3 Deluxe:

Telo I know you want to help, but if you don't own an Asus DDR3 P45 chipset based mobo, plz don't give advice on voltages...or settings.. this board sadly has major ram incompatabilities and think we have to wait a few more bios updates before some peeps rigs will fly...
Also VID is nice but there are loads of CPU's that can run stock speeds at a voltage way below the VID... your claim is a so NO sir... if he can run 3.6 stable at 1.25 he should be able to make 4ghz around (sub) 1.4 level
My E8400 reads out as 1.2250 too and yet it almost does 4ghz at it (in fact I need 1.24Vcore), 3Ghz is done at 1volt...
I would return this board asap if you still time left on your return policy, it has been a long time and issues do not seem to be fixed, i had nightmares trying to setup this board with several sets of ddr3....just some advice so people dont loose out on money.
The board is fine I think. I'm running 3.6Ghz, with 2GB of Kingston at CL7 DDR3 1600. It's you 4GB guys that are having problems.
Thank you
Hi
What is the maximum FSB that you can get with Q9450 OR Q9... on this board?
What is the setting to get it?
I can get max 484 x 7.5 one more wont be stable ,or boot, no mater ,what I change
I think i've managed to stabilize my single stick OCZ 1600MHz 2GB memory, but now the core speed flickers between a 9 and 6 ratios (3000 and 2000 MHz, respectively). What am I setting wrong in the BIOS?

p.s. Tony have you got any technical info on the new BIOS setting ? ( CPU Margin Enhancement )
thx Bill!
This option affects FSB signal, and it's here due to... Intel recommendation.
Basically it affects OC margin for upcoming, cheapo Q8200. It _may_ enhance a little typical Yorkfields as well.
Performance mode does not change anything, Compatible - yes it does - Optimized - depends on CPU uCode.
@Voltages... I prefer measuring them on the caps, so back side is where I like them :D
I'd rather not tell ppl to measure their voltages on Mosfets or SMDs due to ( 1) Need True RMS DMMs for "accurate" readings ) [ 2) SMDs for the danger of short-circuiting something ]
I'm not 100% sure, but I think it helped me gain some FSB with the E8500 when I switched it to "Performance Mode".
NB and RAM voltage points..

i know this is not a big achievement but after 2 days finally i could do SPi 1M on DDR3 2000. so I am happy now! :)

im using the 0902 bios with the above settings and it's 24/7 stable under full load and benchable.
i cant get the ram to run over 1550mhz though.
EDIT: my ram can do 2146mhz stable for me on my p5k3 dlx and my e8500 has done 5ghz on water and 5.62ghz on TEC.
fitseries3 ... flash to 0904
Benchzoner, no idea, Asus will never tell I bet, we will have to look at registers.
Sharing settings with DDR3 i have found to be a waste of time, to many chipset variables for it to be a sure way of gettting a stable system using close to the same hardware, chipset and ram ic's are never the same, they always need something different.
Also for those using some of the newer OCZ 1800 rated dimms, some are a slightly lower bin samsung which does do a lot better with CAS9, so if you are having issues with 1800 and CAS8, move to CAS9 and try again, you can usually climb up the fsb again.
tried 0904 and 1600mhz will post but BSOD on bootup everytime. tried different timings, voltages(1.8v to 2.1v), different straps and still nothing. same crap. what now? this is crap that i have to underclock my $300 ram when i know it's capable of 2100mhz+ easy.
EDIT: oh great..... now it's flashed itself back to 0507.
Here's what I've been told:
I have a feeling that this has got to do with GTL ( CPU & NB ) enhancements for the "Auto" options.Quote:
The Compatible mode is for Q-spec processors and the Performance mode is for the non Q-spec processors. If you leave the option to Optimized, the BIOS will select the best option for you.

I think asus recycles and RMA's out the boards you guys on LN2 brutalize lol
i swear i had many Asus rma boards with 680i/intel chipsets that looked beat up or had frost damage on one a couple of years ago.
carry on, sorry to thread jack
interesting Super Pi screenies
Does the 1M test not use the ram???
my slower setup at the same CPU clocks had the same results if not slightly faster using DDR2 and lower FSB
you need to run 8m minimum to tell, 32m is better
Going to tag along here :)
P5Q3 here with OCZ Flex II 2x1Gb to review.
Quick test shows 2000 on the ram (stock settings, air cooled) possible, but not stable yet. Think I have to ease a little on the Performance level. Hope to report back with screens and settings when I've got full stability.
iboomalot... do you want me to play along ?
Sure you can keep up with SuperPi 32M with DDR3-1800 6-5-5-16 1T ? ;)
any BIOS updates lately?
not yet
you have what we have at this time, and im still finding downclocking the ram, running tight latency around 1333 is faster and much easier to set up. I can do 1600 now 7-7-7-22, but its slower than 1333 6-6-5-18.
Wierd board
i can get 1600mhz to boot at 7-7-7-20 but BSOD every time when booting XP and Vista. i've tried more volts and 8-8-8-24 and 9-9-9-27 but no go. anything under 1550mhz is 100% stable though. this is with crucial ballistix 1600mhz kit rated for 8-8-8-24 @ 1.8v or 7-7-7-20 @ 1.9v
not worried if I "keep up" just wondering how far Iam lagging behind
I have to switch to DDR3 this winter and buy 3 sticks just wondering how much advantage if any switching to DDR3 which requires a new MOBO and buying ram.
from what others posted seems some but slight advantage depending on program.
--------------------------
"run both ram settings back to back"
Iam misunderstanding your request ???
Hi guys:D
Do you have problems with 2x2GB kit?
How would you guys compare memory performance on this board to some previous ddr3 asus boards, mainly the P5E3 dlx and the P5K3 dlx?
I'm setting this board up tonight and received one of the later shipments from buy.com.. not sure what to expect.
I just read through 12 pages of this thread end to end and all I can say is thanks for everyone's hard work and sharing beta bios's.
I have the 0904 bios ready to flash and 2 Mushkin (2x2gb) micron kits to test on here and 1 OCZ ReaperX HPC 2x1gb kit. I can't wait to lose some hair like everyone else.
On another note, I was wondering if the P45 chipset ddr3 limitations could be the reason there is no Blitz/maximus "extreme" ddr3 variants of these boards?
I am running my single stick OCZ 1600 Platinum Edition 2GB stable at 1066 MHz 7-7-7-24 with 1.7v, but when I run CPU-Z it detects the memory running only at half the frequency (534 MHz). I tried installing the memory on both the orange and black slots, and nothing changes.
Does anyone know what could be the problem?
http://img244.imageshack.us/img244/9...4208zh4.th.jpg
I have 2x2 GB Corsair 1600C9 and 704 bios,3dm run but if i launch spi (32m) the system freeze :shakes:
Whit old cellshock 2x1GB 14400 i haven't problem:shrug:
P.S.
I have the same problem at 1333 MHz.
Im beaten, moving away from this board for a while...sorry guys.
I just don't think P45 is ready for DDR3 much above 1333 at this time.
enough is enough.
we hope you'll be back as soon as a new bios appears.
Hey guyz, thought I'd join in here as well!
p5q3
q9450
ddr3 1800mhz supertalent cl7
Been playing around with this setup for a few days now too. running the 0904 bios. Had some promising results but mixed results. I'm also kinda new to oc'ing. Found a sweet spot setting using X.M.P. 450bus cpu X8.0 3.6ghz! 1800fsb, ddr3 1800mhz 8-8-8-24 This setting is stable with most settings on auto.
On the other hand, while tweaking the settings in a more individual way here are some of the values I have been able to get with my quad:
bus 470-480.
cpu as high as 3.8
fsb maxed out around 1920mhz.
Only problem with going this route was I couldn't get the ddr3 past 900mhz (lowest setting). By the way, I LOVE how this board tightens up your timings for you on auto.
So could someone help me out with how to push this setup to the MAX!
Starting with most settings on AUTO, what would be the procedure of OC'ing.
This is what I tried.
1. CPU multiplier to 6.0 ddr multiplyer to lowest.
2. Push bus to 470-480 (my maximum).
3. Bring the CPU up to 7.5. 3.8 Ghz. Still loading and stable
4. Bring DRAM up to above 1500mhz no longer stable.
After trying this board I really don't think setting any voltages manually will help cus the AUTO is so damn good!
Can any of you suggest a more logical approach?
Goal: Bus speed of 500mhz (FSB2000). CPU 3.6ghz is good enough. DRAM speed of 1800mhz(rated)
If the q9450 simply cannot do it, then I might pick up a wolfdale like most of you guyz are using~~
thanks
WS
I've got big CPU problems since I use 904 BIOS (the one I use to solve some of my OCZ RAM problems...).
When the "CPU Margin Enhancement" is set to "Optimize", the CPU has lots of errors on core 2 and 3 (Q9450). Core 0 and 1 are ok. Can't run prime95 more than a second, the two last threads immediately stop on error. It even nuked my system due to file corruptions, I had to reinstall.
When using "Performance mode" instead of Optimize, the CPU is ok at stock voltages, but errors on cores 2 and 3 (like in Optimize mode) when I undervolt it. It ran all ok at 1V before using this BIOS.
I also found the "performance" to be more stable.
I have not touched the "CPU Margin Enhancement" yet. I am stable with a E8400 3.6. 9x400 at 1.2v. RAM 1600 CL7. I may try a few more tweaks to up the FSB. but this board so far has been stable as hell. Good stuff.
Hi all!
Today I got package from ASUS Nordic. Thanks Kinc! :yepp:
There was P5Q3 Deluxe in the box :D
I see that most of you have problems with ram overclocking. I haven't tested this new board much yet, but it is promising. I can boot in to windows without problems at 600fsb. I only tested PL10/11 and some memory overcloking today.
Here is some random shots from my first quick tests.
I will write settings etc. when I find more stability. All parts are on aircooling and low voltages of course
