Mr. "Graphics card": First Day of Spring Quarter.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...k/DSC03602.png
It all started while someone was cleaning out the dust bunnies. He decided to make use of an old heatsink.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...k/DSC03603.png
A graphics card was getting ready to go back to school. Week 1 of Spring quarter.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...k/DSC03604.png
While walking to school, he met three nasty screwdriver bullies. They popped off the graphic card's heatsink.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...k/DSC03605.png
He was unwilling to let go of his heatsink.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...k/DSC03606.png
So the big screwdriver gave the graphic card a good beating.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...k/DSC03607.png
He had to get to school on time. Just in case of another bunch of bullies ahead, he went to get his silver armor.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...k/DSC03608.png
And borrowed his big brother's heatsink.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...k/DSC03609.png
This time, he secured his big brother's heatsink with badass black threads.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...k/DSC03610.png
And armed with a threatening-looking fan.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...k/DSC03611.png
The graphics card was once again ready to continue his journey to school.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...k/DSC03612.png
Other PCI cards students were scared of him so they changed seats.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...k/DSC03613.png
Instead of being intimidated by the graphics card, the USB thingys were attracted to his big fan.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...k/DSC03614.png
So, the USB thingys were all over his fan for it vibrates when it becomes turned on.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...k/DSC03615.png
The graphics card thinks to himself, "This is the best lecture ever."
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...k/DSC03616.png
And the fan on the CPU heatsink died of jealousy.
The End
Have a wonderful quarter/semester back at school. :p
LMAO some of these mods are pure genius..the various coolin mods are my favorites of the bunch
here is my mod... slapped on a alphacool naxxxos XP waterblock on to my 260gtx + an old heatsink from a geforce 2 :D
http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t...s/DSCN1344.jpg
desided to put a 80mm fan on the heatsink to keep things nice and cool.
http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t...s/DSCN1345.jpg
heres what it did to my clock speeds :D:D:D pretty good i would say the temps are around 30c constantly. the card has no volt mods :D

I want to hear luie tell another story YAY!:woot::wiggle:
Heh i like that waterblock GPU mod, Im doing the same to my HD2900Pro + I am putting 3 AMD 754 BOX coolers on the RAMs :D
How about modding 7600GS and adding some parts [MOSFET and a lot of capacitors, from really small to really BIG]?
MOSFET is from dead Gf6600, because comparing 7600GS and 7600GT, both by Palit, there was clearly one MOSFET missing ;).
The rest is mostly for fun, no spectacular results unfortunately, but I'm still working on it ;).

lol you need to improve your soldering skill tho :p
That soldering was done by a friend of mine, I'm still learning [slowly...]. It is not that bad - at least it works ;). And that was the main idea, not to do it perfect in every aspect :p:.
And now "the leg of the capacitor" [for voltage measuring] is not only on the PCB :).
In fact it is much more "clear" than that :
http://img74.imageshack.us/img74/3439/vmodbv2.th.jpg
worked flawlessly :) [Commando; 100k VR + 8.2k resistor]
Man some nice Ghetto-mods in here :) Here's a small list of mines... With pics (clickable).

http://tweakers.net/ext/f/f6BZW3Lb9P...Avpd/thumb.jpg
Really mitched a notch there.. but it fitted and worked. As paste i used the stuff thats wrapped between the memory and the stock-cooler.. Really works well. Tightend it together with the screws and it works like a charm

Final result :D
This was more of an experiment ... :
http://tweakers.net/ext/f/oDNjEmGBhY...fkdE/thumb.jpg
Yes, attaching CCFL's towards my TFT. Used an old 12V DC powersupply of a cablemodem which delivered up to 1A. This was the result:

Untill i figured out this was'nt the correct side of the card, my heatsink woud'nt fit no more :D
Later on, a boostermod, since the PCI-express slot cannot deliver more then 75watts:

Alot of people might wonder why the hell an Athlon 64 IHS was doing on a vidcard.. It would protect the core from being chrushed by my vapochill. Really cool temps, -29 at load / 1200MHz core. This was a 8600GT btw.

ghetto mods when.....when most of your water cooling components came from home depot
LMAO! sirheck, that is freaking awesome.
while I was painting my HD cage and I didn't had a CPU in my secondary pc, I just created myself a kind of a Ghetto HD mount :p

HAHAHA
"is that CD ejecting or are you just happy to see me?!"
Too bad it doesn't have a CPU :(
OMG, this thread is so awesome :D Thumb-nailed :yepp:
The various cooling mods are , and so is the first one (box pc), but so far the funniest ghetto-mod is by far catawalks'es bedtime computer partner :D
Here's a new one. I got my open-box X38 board yesterday, and of course whoever returned it stole the northbridge heatsink... I had none that fit, so I had to rig up my own:
http://img511.imageshack.us/img511/1527/ghettosr3.jpg
I got an old northbridge heatsink from a socket 939 motherboard and then cut up some old headphones. I used the insulated wire from the headphones to string up the heatsink to hold it in place. It works well, though it's only a temporary solution.
found the pics from my tempory case from my 2nd pc back :), great time, GF6200 dieclocking, but my mother want's it to be propper on my pc room ... -.-
http://i37.tinypic.com/2qujksk.jpg
and it even has an exhaust fan :)
HD 2900Pro preparing for Watercooling. Its a 754 Box cooler cut to 3 pieces. Its not done yet, ill show more pics when its done...
im soo loving that pic.. looks like a nother killer cooling mod

Midget Mariachi http://photo-shack.com/img/c930eecd0...cc445f708f.gif
the trusty waterblock in action again, but this time i've made a vgpu volt mod to my HD4850 it seems to overclock pretty well with just plain water cooling..btw the voltage that was used was 1.5v.. + i have custom cooling on the volt regulators :D old heatsinks that i scavenged from an old dfi lanparty expert mobo.
http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t...s/DSCN1408.jpg
it clocks pretty well doesent it :D..

WOW, Good job . A friend of mine was trying to come up with a way to cool his 360. This is perfect, I'm gonna forward this to him.Quote:

My addition to the thread - A toolbox PC. 1.1Ghz CPU, 384mb ram, 12Gb HDD, TV-out card. It has a wireless keyboard and mouse if required but it's main interface is a trackball I bought on eBay from an old Air traffic control tower.
Its used as a karaoke machine as a I didn't own a laptop at the time and it seemed a good use of some bits and pieces I had lying around.

and another cooling mod by me ..(again) :D. this time the victim is the 9800 gx2 aka "hamburger"... i just bolted 2 D-tek fuzion waterblocks to the card and voila my load temps are bellow 35c constantly :D i can overclock the core all the way to 820mhz ( 3d stable)
http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t...s/DSCN1417.jpg
The airflow in my case is reversed so the intake is in the back and the exhaust is in the front.
This cardboard duct is taped to the 120 mm intake fan and directs the airflow to the stock i7 920 cooler reducing my temps by around ~7 degrees Celsius.

http://compru.us/PIX/100_0071.jpg
Running at a comfortable ~70 Celsius 100% load on all cores and ~35 idle with the case cover closed and the ambient room temperature is ~75 F. Running it at 3.33 Ghz Prime stable 12+ hours. By the way the case is a LIAN LI PC-A05B, very good case IMHO.
Dang. Whys the card at an angle like that?Quote:

cos the sli link cable is on the bottom and its pretty easy to open up the dual pcb's and fit 2 blocks on the card ;)
it shows more clearly on this pic ( same one that i posted but with out the flash)
http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t...s/DSCN1419.jpg
I see. the cards were stuck together at one point. They run toghether through the sli bridge? what powers the second card?
*n/m just read a review on that card. There getting pretty tricky with how there doing sli these days.
Does it split the 16x slot into 8x per card? lol Im just full of stupid questions this morning. Nice mod non the less.
ammm its sort of like the 4870 x2 but instead if having the gpus on 1 pcb the 9800gx2 has 2 of them and are connect via connector that uses sli technology and it actually has 2 bridges that connect the 2 pcb's
here take a look
http://plaza.fi/s/f/editor/images/X-...3071520319.jpg
You have water on the video, and northbridge, but not the cpu, why?
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...11-06_2001.jpg
The above illustrates my extremely crappy soldering skills. I was putting a new VGA d-sub end from an old dead CRT, onto a working CRT that had a faulty cable (you know when it starts losing R, G, and/or B...) To finish it off, I insulated it with tape, and then braced the join with a flattened out PCI expansion slot bracket, then taped that up to make it "neat" Worked like a charm, luckily I got the wiring correct.
Thats awesome, bet that card cranks out some Serious performance. Specially with the blocks on them like that.Quote:

Soldering looks good to me! you should see the muffler I welded onto my car after I figured out I couldn't grind stainless steel down LOL. I usually just twist the wires together then plastic dip them. But this has inspired me to start soldering them, thank you :)Quote:

Some modifications on the mod to make it even more ghettoer(does that word exist?:p:).
Some hot glue to the board and dvd drive to make it more stable and a fan controller
http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/1998/ghettoch7.jpg
So thats how you got it to stick to the wall LOL :ROTF:Quote:
GamerBR
Iniatially the wood boards here hang by just a screw on the wall,so it could spin, the dvd drive with only the screw was vibrating a little bit,now it's perfect, the motherboard was ok with only the screw, but I applied hot glue on it too:p:.
The dvd drive is being hang on the wood board only by scotch tape(a lot of it),the fans and the hard disk are also being hang by only scotch tape:ROTF:.The fan controller is hot glued and the motherboard is being hang to the wood board by 5 hanger screws with a nut on the side of the motherboard and 1 on the other side of the wood board.
I've done a lot of ghetto mods.. lol

never did any real OC but it did get some cold readings in the BIOS
Some of that I came up with and some of it was ideas I got from forums but over all I've done a lot of ghetto stuff :p More pics of these on my mods site http://mods.333networks.com
About the oil cooled one,how was the temps? And did you clean it afterwards or just threw it in the garbage? It must be a pain in the ass to clean this :banana::banana::banana:.
i put a HR-05 SLI chipset heatsink on a wireless adapter. does that count?
Since I was using a torch anyway I thought it would look cool to burn the holes, still have that case in the attic but don't use it. After I needed the Oil PC parts in other places the motherboard and cards were hung from the ceiling in my basement over a bucket, then toweled off and used again but I never could get that little film of oil off the parts.
Today I put my old AMD Athlon XP cooler on my FX5500 :D

Cool mod , it's a pity though that the card was already dead :p: :D
I gotta dig up my photos, and find the one with my really old ATi 7500, with a P3 heatsink on it + 90mm Delta fan ;) Worked like a charm :)
Thanks
I'm thinking I might put it on my 7900GS
I guess I could post some stuff I've done in the past...
Had to mount my biggest hard drive at the time, 400gb. Rubber bands worked well for a while, but being in a warm dry case, rubber bands tend to break. I found out later zip ties work pretty good as well. While the rubber bands help reduce noise, created by vibrations of the hard drive, I'm not sure how well the zip-ties work for noise reduction as they're quite a bit harder.

yay
haha, some really entertaining stuff in here!
Hello dudes, very good and bizarre mods here, must say one of the best threads I've seen here so far.I vote for sticky.
Leaving the bla bla bla, I'd like to do a mod. I'm soon getting a new cooler for my E8200 and I was thinking about using its stock cooler for cooling my HD4850. BIOS modded, fan start kickin 50% @ 50ºC and 100% when above 70ºC and undervolted...damn that thing is really loud at 100% but I dont mind when gaming, the problem is when summer hits here, (you know Brazil) it really get on my nerves .Of course I though about buying another cooler for the GPU, but anything here is stupidly expensive that I almost give up buying the cpu cooler! (Dont care about warranty too, because most of my hardware came directly from USA :p:). My initial plan is to saw-off the video card heatsink enough to fit the stock CPU cooler, keeping the memory and PWM area with the stock card heatsink. Dont know if someone here already tried this mod, but I'm very interested doing it. Can someone confirm if stock 775 pushpin fits on the 4850?
if you want ghetto mods google darthbeavis, all my mods fit that category
ummm....me too...
I don't know where it is at...

There are some really great mod's here :D
That Ben guy has some sick stuff :ROTF:
super thread
...love how much stick tape and cardboard is used
Lol i laughed my eyes out on some mods.. You guys surely have some creative inspiration.
I hate to see one of those cardboard cases go water cooled and develop a leak. Hey maybe it's a great idea after all, if you start leaking your parts automatically eject!
funny thing is... I ran this for a few months because I'm so lazy.. haha
this was some time ago of course ;)

wow this tread is soo cool lol :P talk about budget cases :P
main rig sittin on desk while in process of modding the case..
the heatsink is stock and missing the push pins since i couldnt use them becasue the mobo is sitting flat on the desk not as ghetto as some here but...oh well
A PC I knocked up to fit into an arcade machine I was building, it had limited space down the side of the screen so I had to hack an old case to bits.

My roomate bought a HP that is overheating big time,He first has this desk fan blowing on his computer as if it was a Car on a dyno w/ its hood open. That got old, so he took my old XPS_720 fans (120mm and 80mm) and duck taped them into the front of his computer, and has them running at 100%. These fans move alot of air, and at 100% in a tiny case like his, there are literally hurricane force winds in the inside of his computer. there is no airflow at all through the front so there is a huge vacum force generated at the front of the computer. It sounds like a 747 is taking off when he turns on his computer.

Sorry for picture quality
Finally got round to modding a spare mouse I had.
Specs as follows..
PENTIUM 4 1.9Ghz CPU :yepp:
SALTIRE sticker for extra coolness :D
just for fun obviously
Starting from the practical stuff... To get HDD's more silent
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...0209182641.jpg
Tried just for curiosity, got about 4-6 degrees off from NB temp. Notice the matching colors!
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...0209183448.jpg
Action:
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...0209183252.jpg
Then to the cooler part... Palit has the 3 slot version of 4870x2... but I have a 4 slot version of 4850 :p:
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...0209182926.jpg
I'll flip that cover so the wire will go from behind... just for looks
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...0209183105.jpg
You can see the grey wire going behind the thumb screws. In the end of that lead, is a BIOS clearing switch. No way in hell the jumper can be accessed anymore!
And you can see the southbridge cooler, a Zalman northbridge heatsink... I did have a fan on it but that is just useless. Maybe I could hook it up.
Now all my fan controller channels are in use. Rear exhaust, top exhaust, 2x front intake, PWM fan, GPU fan... I admit it. I am a control freak!
