Good job iandh!!
I picked one up in flint, Mi for 77.99. The chick at the register told me if I bring in the stores number that had them for 47.99 I could get that price.. we will see though. Man, these buggers are friggin huge though! Kinda the exact opposite of my Lian Li a05b i just bought :).
Talked to an "Operations Manager" at a store in Avon, Ohio. They had this case for $67.99, when a store 30 minutes away has it for $47.99. I asked her if she would price match and she said no, because prices are based avaliability and demographics.
Lame.
My store doesn't have them on clearance and the dept manager wouldn't even discuss a discount.
I'll just have to wait a while and see if things change.
I picked up one for 47.99 @ Bestbuy in Evanston, IL (on Howard Store #313). Its on clearance and its huge, dont take your 2 seater convertable like I did...

Haha, awesome i still got it!
btw, i also had to return mine because one of the standoffs would not screw into the motherboard tray for the life of me, it was messed up and i ended up stripping it. But my exchanged one works great!

Its about the same size as a Stacker w/ wheels. Wow, the camera shows the dirty filters :(
Got one of the last two cases at my Best Buy. I'll get some pictures up in a bit of it compared to the side panel of my old Craptake Tsunami (er, Thermaltake) and my Silverstone Olympia power supply box.
I got some pictures of the case itself, what it comes with, and some pictures of the transfer from the Tsunami to this case. Bear with me though, taken with a cell phone.
Is there a Lian Li window I can purchase?
I did not realize it was THAT big. I don't own a cosmos, so I can't compare directly, but I'm guessing this is bigger than a p180 eh?
agreed. From what i can tell it would have to be a pc 1000 or 2000 series case. However, there are a number of versions of this case series. Thsi is the one I suspect will fit:

I've been meaning to call Performancs-pcs and ask for specific specs on the panels they offer.
just an update for people still trying to find this case in the los angeles area.
i purchased mine at the atwater BB in glendale for $71.99. they still had one more when i bought mine on 3/13.
i tried the pasadena store but they were out even thought their system says they have 3 instock.
city of industry store has 2 that i saw but still $119.99.
a buddy of mine grabbed the last one at the montclair store last night (3/15) for $47.99.
what :banana::banana::banana:ing bull:banana::banana::banana::banana: everyone here practically gets it for $50 and I'm stuck at $120
:banana::banana::banana::banana: this state I'm moving
a friend picked one up for me for 47. in comparison to my p180, there's no contest, the p180 actually smokes it.
the case cover feels light and flimsy, it looks like it will scratch easy. i feel like i have to be extra gentle with this case, which is not what i had in mind.
well i'll take a closer look at it tomorrow. maybe some fatmat and a thick coat of paint will keep the rattle down :/
hehehe... welcome to threes club lol... :D
first case - office file/video/payroll server
second case - home office computer for my work away from the office (this case is overboard for this build rofl but what the hell @ $43.12 its a good deal)
third case - not sure yet but I am leaning towards either selling it on ebay or putting a phase change in it
hmm I qualify for the 3CC though no RocketFish case. :p
I just picked up 3 of these for $47.99 at my local bestbuy. Thanks for the heads up on this really nice case everyone!
P180 is very prone to scratches, its wayy too much plastic for my taste.
My side panel seems to rattle because it doesn't line up right, I don't think. Harddrive vibration doesn't seem to be dampened too well, but for $50, I'm not going to complain. I'll find some rubber or something to dampen it.
Well, I guess I should mention that I have yet to power my system up in the case. idk if it will rattle or what, but I aree that adding a few dampers here and there wouldnt; be much of a problem.
i've experienced zero rattle and vibration...guess i got lucky.
I wasnt basing the construction quality on the weight alone. i dont know, maybe i just got a bad case. the panels on the rocketfish are wearing at the seams, which looks like crap IMO
i understand the p180 has tons of plastic, but that's what makes it a great case. plastic is a better damping material than metal. also, the interior of the p180 seems very rigid. not to mention the precuts to hide the psu cables really come in handy. there isnt any room to do the same in the rocketfish. i guess i like the ideas and thought that went behind the 180, whereas the rocketfish was slapped together(not implying the construction was comprimised).
all that aside, yes it is a great case for 50 bucks. though I personally wouldnt pay much more than that
ps: would one know if i can have it exchanged at any bestbuy? the one my friend bought it at doesnt have any more cases :(
Hard drive suspension works well in this case (no pun intended). I have my Samsung 500gigger suspended in the bottom 5.25" bay, can only hear it when it seeks.
Oh, and be sure to remove all fan grilles. And rubber-mount your low-speed fans. And buy Dynamat/roofer's tape equivalents with which to coat the inside of the door and other surfaces of the case. And a Seasonic-built PSU (HX520, VX450, HX620, etc.) for even more silence. *deep breath
Not the quietest case in the world, but with some work, it's manageable. :)
Haha, I actually have done all listed above and it is quite silent.
First thing I did was strip the grills and drill out the mounting holes to mount the fans with the included hard drive grommets (quite useful since I won't be mounting more than a few hard drives).
I also have a VX450, previously a 520HX, and they both are amongst the most silent PSU's I've owned. Very cool running as well.
I'm thinking I'm going to need to silence my optical drive though somehow.
If you are looking at getting a Windowed door for this case. Look at the part number W-75B. This door fits perfect. I got my info from Lian Li themselves. I just installed the door on my Rocketfish, and it looks great. Performance-PCS has the door, but watch out for high shipping prices. Here is a pic to show you guys.
Cant this thread die already!
Often the most challenging and unavoidable noise producers in a case, especially in a giant aluminum one like the Rocketfish. I'm thinking the best way is to surround the drive with high density stuff; vinyl floor tiles, carpet squares, anything to help absorb noise output.
Oh, and Nero DriveTool can reduce DVD/CD read speeds, less noise.
I wish that window didn't go down so far... I don't want it to show the power supply or harddrive racks. Trying to hide those...
Here is a thought...
Tape off the part that you do want to show and then paint the rest (bottom part) black from the inside.
You'll end up with just what you're looking for and with it painted from the inside, your not likely to get any scratches on the paint.
You could find all sorts of alternative solutions that would accomplish the same thing.
just one for $50 but I might just get more for the hell of it.
$49.99 at the best buy in Bloomingdale IL. Just grabbed a couple. HUGE.
At the top of the case, with the vertical grate in the back above the IO ports... what's the story on size there? I've got the case sitting on my desk here at school with the side panel off, and judging by eye, a 120mm fan won't fit there. 2x 92mm maybe? Could help get stale air out the top.
EDIT: 2x80mm would fit there nice with a little cutting. If you look at the top of the case, there are some rail type things that hang down that would need to be trimmed in the back, but 2x80mm would definately fit.
Went to Buffalo while on my weekend trip to Niagara.
Walden Galleria had them for ~$95. Had the guy check stock of other stores in the area, and both Amherst and Clarence had them in stock for $52. Only managed to fit two into a Corolla. Customs didn't have a problem with the HUGE case in the back seat :D
Hehe it's AMAZING how many of these cases are on Ebay now....good luck with the sales guys. I'm glad I got mine for $50.
After having time to mod my case a bit I tend to agree with the poster who said the case isn't quite up to Lian Li quality standards. After getting my hands dirty cutting radiator fan openings into the top panel and swapping my hardware into the case, I do have to admit that it's not quite Lian Li quality.
My PC-60 had a power supply plate that allowed me to mount it to the power supply and then use thumbscrews on the outer mounting. Also my PC-60 did have considerably more edge guards...that I will be stealing from my old case and using on my Rocketfish. Other little knit-picky things I noticed weren't quite Lian Li quality....but still an awersome case for an awesome price that I'll get years of use out of.
Last little observation..WTF is a Rocketfish?!?!? What marketing project birthed that bastard child of a label? The best I can come up with fish are associated with water...which is associated with surfing...so a rocketfish is surfing like...um...rocket scientists on crack???
I finally saw this case in person, and I like it alot. simple, nice door, decent airflow, lots of room, and plenty of room for modifications like a nice blow hole, or better side intake. Also this case is made by Lian-Li it says it right on the box.
man, $49.99 for this case in philly. anyone want me to pick them up one? :D
I would like to know too, if there is any way to buy one in Europe.
USA Deal only. :(
I called my local store, and they say they have 9 of them.
Do i buy them all? lol...
$100 + shipping :D
<_<
>_>
Just picked one up at my local BB in Indianapolis, they were marked on the shelf at 49.99 :D :D What a deal!
"Your total is 53.89"
I felt like I stole the frickin thing lol
anyone plan to profit from this? how much fair value?
no stores within 50 miles with in stock :(
all sold out at full price. booooo.
Picked up 2 this past weekend - 47.99 + tax for each. I had to end up driving to 2 stores to pick them up as the 1st store only had one in stock. Anyway this case should make a fine companion to my 3 other Stacker STC-01's.
Will try to move parts from my backup server into one of this sometime this coming weekend. The 2nd one I will probably gift it to my brother.
Just picked one up, couldn't resist. Total after tax was $51.35.
anyone try sound dampening material on theirs? I'm contemplating it
Are these available for ~$50 in EVERY store? Online it says $120, how do I know if my store is selling it for the good price?
I'm going to try some when I cut holes in the motherboard tray for wires. When I put the side panel on, it rattles ever so slightly.
No, I went to one store that was selling it for $67.99, and then went to another that had it for $47.99.
I just picked one up for 49.99 - 10%. Sweet deal, they still had one left when I left.
The cashier said the coupon was not valid...... Then she keyed in 10% off.
Paid $72 for mine. Not a bad deal. Bigger than my Gigabyte Aurora 570, but the Aurora is definitely sturdier (especially the front door).
san antonio bb still wants $100 for 'em.
and they are saying that IS the sale price..
grabbed one over the weekend for $51 badass case
If shipping these beast weren't too much I'd sell one ot two.
Surely it's better than your Stacker? ;)
I would take one over a Stacker any day.
USPS parcel post shipping on one of these is about $25. Not too bad.
Just snagged mine, Salem NH is now out. Might get a second though just to have around.
didnt someone here say they showed this thread to a Bestbuy manager?
I bet that manager must be thinking who are all these obsessed people with this computer case lol?
@SHIFT
where did you get yours for $50 in nyc?
haha yessss. Clearwater bestbuy has them for 47.99 and a couple of bestbuys around them do too. Gulf Coast is still $120.
I hate bestbuy, but sweet deal.
So metal Lian Li case badges that will cover Rocket Fish?? Anyone?
Okay I took a bunch of pictures. Spread them around, but give credit when credit is due ;)
Photo Gallery
I was going to do something like that, but all I had avaliable was the camera on my phone. Well done.
