Re: Q6600. You still find that 3200 will be our best shot on a G0? I'm sitting at 2924 now, edging it higher each time I reboot (followed by using the system regularly for a couple days to test for anomalies, inc. Prime95).
Re: 2-->3 SLI scaling. I found the exact same when going from 1-->2; there just wasn't much performance gain in 3DMark06. I don't think it uses SLI very well at all.
Anyone:
I read that a lot of people put their RAM voltage to 2.1v, citing "that's what it is rated for". I tried this with both my P5N32-E SLI and this Striker II - neither worked out very well. Is there something else I'm missing? Does it even help?
Q6600: Well, of course it depends. I was limited initially by using 4GB RAM and couldnt for some reason get higher than 3300 at the most. Then I switched to E6600 (and 2 GB) which I'm running at 3600 without any problems. I think 3.6 is doable on a quad, yes, with the right settings. For what it's worth, I've been able to reach a FSB of 470 on this board.
SLI: my results
1x 8800GTX: 12624
2x 8800GTX: 15314
3x 8800GTX: 15737
However I see decent scaling from 2 to 3-SLI in some games, e.g. crysis and WIC.
Actually, polar bear, now that I recheck, my results mirror yours (1-->2).
SLI: my results
1x 8800GTX: 13003
2x 8800GTX - SingleGPU mode: 12892
2x 8800GTX - AFR1: 9888
2x 8800GTX - AFR2: 15594
Driver: 169.21
Vid BIOS:
#1 - 60.80.0e.00.05
#2 - 60.80.06.00.12
You put yours on AFR2? If you left it on default, switching to AFR2 may be the trick for your system - because I would think you'd get at least a couple thousand points above my score, just based on your OC.
AFR2? Not sure what this means. How do you set it?
It's not a big deal with good scaling in 3DMark as it's not the reason I built my system ;) But sure it's always nice to bring it higher to compare to other systems :p:
That's exactly right, 3.0.
169.21 are bad.
Currently I am running 58.22 on 8600GT and they are pretty good for 3dmark. Not tried 174.17. I get the feeling they won't be as good though. Somebody try 58.22 for 8800GTX and see what you think. If you cannot be bothered running the whole 06 then use the pixel shader 2.0 test on 03 for a general guide to how a driver will do in general for this modern shafer world we live in.
I've been fiddling with voltages tonight and GTL voltage is quite interesting. For 3dmark06 0mv GTL or 40mv GTL would fail but +30mv passes all the time. I am running this in cnjunction with 1.66v on the northbridge.

Andy
what's AFR2?????
hey guys
I am at the process of choosing mobo, cpu and gpu for my build (took quite a while already). Now, seeing good test results of 9600gt in sli - I am thinking it could be a good idea to couple them with Striker 2 Formula.
Initially I wanted to use x38 board (with DDR2 in sig) with fsb ~425-440 (to run RAM 1:1 at rated timings), also lowering the tRD value as much as it will go. That is - I am planing to get only modest overclock for 24/7 use (if e8400 - then ~3.6-3.8GHz; if q9450 ~3.4-3.5GHz)
I would like to ask you couple of question regarding this board to clear up some things:
1) is 4gb of RAM (2x2gb) would allow ~425-440 FSB overclock from your experience? (will use 4 side fans on Stacker 832)
2) Is it as easy to set tRD values as in Rampage Formula (came across anand review...) or its more tricky? I see some people do not have bandwidth improvement (didnt quite get if its a common problem or issue with a particular bios version?)
3) I've read about an issue with LAN ports (like reports lost internet connection or 'limited connectivity'). Is it already addressed with a new bios release?
4) Regarding layout. Is the SLI bridge long enough so that Auzentech sound card can be used between a par of graphics cards? (not sure about the width of 9600gt and auzen x-fi)
thanks for the help :)
174.17 ?!?
I just reformatted and installed the latest from nVidia.. I can't seem to find any newer drivers. In fact, if I search for 174.17, this forum is the only thing that shows, haha.
Oh, also, zakelwe gave the AFR definition - but in case it wasn't clear, these are SLI settings in your nVidia (or nHancer) 3D settings. Some games benefit from AFR1 or 2, and I think you can even select a newer one (AFR3) using nHancer..
IMO this board is VERY finicky with 4gigs, I reckon it might work but it may take some work to get there. I think there were a few posts re this in this thread, have a look around. As for myself I quickly gave up the 4gb idea as it was hard to get system stable with high FSB at the same time.
EDIT: found the advice re 4GB:
I'll leave your other q's to be answered by the 'pros' ;)

300pts diff.. I suppose that's okay. Once I saw the proxycon fps start at 90, I was sure the score would have been even higher (because I was getting low 80s before), but I guess not!
I'm only at 2925mhz - I'll edge that to 3200, but I don't know if I'll be able to figure out the right combo of voltages.
hallo is that true that cant run with this board SLI on 64bit Windows vista?..
couse i have 4gb rams and i bought this board...
i ve got 2x 8800GT SLI but still in the box...
please help me...who s having sli with this board on 64bit windows?...thanks:confused:
I currently have this board running SLI 2x 8800GTS 512's w/Vista64 Ultimate.
That is until Vista decides it doesn't have enough resources and gives me a (Code 12) on one of them. It's driving me insane! Any time anything changes (i.e. I plug in a USB drive) it 'runs out' of resources. I've been disabling things in the BIOS, but there's nothing left I can disable... I just want to know how the hell Vista is 'out of resources'?!?!?
I am running with 4x 1GB RAM (Corsair 8500) clocked at 1000MHz 4-4-4-15-2T and 1800 FSB on a E8400. (can't seem to get it any higher than 1800) 2x 150GB Raptors (RAID0) 1kWatt PSU, WC on the CPU and Video cards.
I have the video cards OC'd to 830GPU/1100Mem/2025Shaders and I'm only getting barely over 19k in 3Dmark06. I think it should be quite a bit higher...
I just upgraded to the 1001 BIOS and 174.31 (I think) forceware drivers. I managed to get Vista to recognize both cards again last night. Hopefully they will both be available tonight when I get home.
Has anyone else had this problem (Code 12 - Not enough resources)? There are a ton of Google hits on the error, but none seem to help. (The PCI HackFlags registry hack helped for a little while)
so i m gonna get 32bit OS vista..i think is better but read only 3,2 gb from my 4 gb ram...
If you get the retail version, you get the media for both 64- and 32-bit installs.
I went 64-bit so I could use all 4GB of my RAM.
so again....
i ve got 2x8800gt is it work in sli in 64bit windows vista?...
yes sli will work in 64 bit vista
w00t, i got mine last thursday. gonna put water on the nb, it runs kinda hot
i have so Q's tho:
1. Should i upgrade the Bios, and to witch?
3. what is the recommended setting for 8 gigs of ram (i really dont want to putt them in sync mode)
final 1001 seems to be the best atm
hi ! As i know, driver 17x.xx only support Nvidia G9xxx GPU, can't install for G8xxx GPU !
Do you have an option in bios for ddr2 termination voltage? pc probe says that it's constantly on 1,1V which is 0,2 over default:confused:

I will wait another week and hopefully make up my mind during this time :) (waiting for some other parts to arrive anyway)
 Great news :( , was running stable @ 4.4 on QX9650 on water, just updated to the official 1001 bios and no post only the alternate beeping hangs at Dram Init and yes I have cleared the CMOS and removed the battery:confused:
Any suggestions please ?
Edit post >> Ahh more Striker madness, finally got to post by putting 1 stick of different ram in white ram slot, then set settings rebooted original reaper in blue slots and well it works
How long did you leave the battery out? I had the same thing happen, and was pretty sad when removing the battery didn't help... I had popped it and put it right back in.
I then left it out for an hour and tried again and it worked...not sure why...
edit: I also removed the power cord from the PS. That may have helped.
I've managed to OC the cpu and the ram as well. Look at the screenies:
http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t...0/max_OC_1.jpg
http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t...0/max_OC_2.jpg
But I'm running very stable now at 4.2ghz and ram at 900mhz 4-4-3-4-1T
http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t...650/900_1T.jpg
I can also tighten the timings to 940mhz at 4-3-3-3-1T (3-1-3-6-20 tRRD-tRC-tWR-tWTR-tRFC) or 1150mhz 4-3-3-3-2T but that only gives me extra 200mb/s read speed (from 10050 to 10250) and 1ns better latency.
*Update - I've also OCed my gpu to 666/2100 but can't go any further even though under load my gpu temp is not exceeding 55C... Did anybody ever play with pciex16_1 (2,3) frequencies?
Looking to get this board to replace my eVGA 780i, has any one got a quad Q6600 450x8 or 400x9 prime stable?
I had 450x8 on my X38 board 1.4Vcore on the Q6600 24/7 prime stable
Would be happy with 400x9 mind
Any one?
Hi
I just ordered the board along with a 2x2GB set of Corsair PC6400C4DHX, now my question is: do I have to raise the NB voltage for it to be stable at stock speed and if so to what must I raise it to?
Thanks
No, at stock speeds it is rock solid.
Although even at stock you will see that NB temps can easily reach 70C.
My result with QX9650 n Vapo.
http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...GHz5_final.jpg
My problem now :( can't OC three 8800U at the same time, all my setting for fan speed or clock have just apply for second 8800U. Only use Ntune.
Prettty good score as the Ultra is running stock speeds, I got about the same score with an eVGA 780i with 8800GTS 512 in SLI under XP and QX9650 at 4.5 (450 x10) with ram at 1200mhz... I ran stock WHQL drivers... too bad I didn't have more time to mess with the 780i... as I later found out that 169.21 is prety sucky in SLI lol... with some more optimising you can breach 24.5K easily...

Hallo...boys...please can somebody help me?...
I ve got striker II formula and i need to know settings of bios.. NB SB CPU VTT and....
i ve got E8400 and i would like to try oc around 4GHZ...
i just need to know that settings...in bios... thanks...
if somebody have E8400 oc around 4GHZ please send me settings ..many thanks :D
thanks mate...
anybody check new bios? 1101?
I think it says 1600fsb on the box. Is asus selling a 1600fsb mb that will not do 1600fsb with 45nm quads?
Man.. I can't seem to get much over 15k. I'm sure my bottleneck is the CPU. The system is pretty happy at 2.8 or 2.925ghz, but once I start putting it to 3, 3.1 or 3.2 funky things ranging from minor to major start happening. At the least, misc apps like IE will hang, and at the worst, Media Player with crash the system when you, say, resize the window. Prime95 doesn't seem to crash it tho, so it's not a very good indicator of stability on this system.
My temps are fine - awesome in fact. With the vcore at 1.44v or slightly higher, I'm still seeing temps of 30-40C. I've tried manually setting the voltages to this:
cpu volt - 1.44375
PLL - 1.5
VTT - 1.3
NB - 1.3
SB - 1.5
1.2v - 1.2
Bridge - 1.2
And, that's with the FSB set to 325-350 (2925mhz/3150mhz).
BTW, I've my pair of GTXs OC'd at 620mhz/990mhz (absolute max stable on both cards).
You guys have any ideas? I have heard about some stark limitations of OC'ing the Q6600 on this board, but I've also heard that some are able to get 3.2 to 3.5 stable! So, I'm stumped...
Has anyone tried bios 1101 yet?
Bios 1101 no good for q6600
No multi change
Pll goes to 2V if set to auto.
What gtl are people running? needed +30mv to get 400fsb stable with q6600.
yes 400x9, I can get into windows at 450x9 and 450x8 but not stable.
400x9 1.32Vcore, 1.6Vpll, 1.6Vnb and +30mv cpu and nb gtl, everything else auto.My ram is 2x2G, I'm going to try some old d9 to see if its keeping me from 450fsb. This cpu will do 490x8 fsb in a max formula but I dont know if I want to go over 1.7Vnb to get 450fsb even if 1.7Vnb is still green in bios.
Q6600 on water, testing 425fsbx9 now 1.4vcore, 1.62vpll, 1.64vnb and +30mv cpu and nb gtl.
Q6600 30min occt stable at 425fsbx9.
Learning lots.
WOOT!!!!
Q6600 now testing 475fsbx8 1.4vcore, 1.64vpll and still yellow 1.8Vnb with +30mv gtl as I type. will give screen at 30min.
It only made it 6min at 475fsbx8, occt stopped but no bsod. will try more volts.
Here are screens of 20min 425x9 and the 475x8 runs.
http://good-times.webshots.com/album/562815005UcJRyK
Cpuz shows wrong link width?
Well, 475x8 does not look like it will make it but 450x9 is going well, I do like this cpu, it boots 4G at 1.3V and posts 4.35g at 1.6V,.I need better cooling.
fordf250, what's +30mv?
So, you figure this should work/stable for a Q6600 set at 1600fsb (400mhz)?
cpu volt - 1.32
PLL - 1.6
VTT - auto
NB - 1.6
SB - auto
1.2v - auto
Bridge - auto
Also, I noticed your vmem was 2.22.. you sure you got that with 'auto' for setting?
(fordf250) Oh, I just realized - you may be talking about the Maximus Formula.. or did you get the Striker II Formula as well?
just got the striker 2 days ago, maximus in jan.

http://www.overclock3d.net/gfx/artic...104719955l.gif
http://www.overclock3d.net/gfx/artic...104719876l.gif
As usual, memory bandwidth on nVidia chipset rawks \m/.. (Asus P5E3 Premium (X48) and yung Asus Maximus Extreme (X38) is DDR3 version)
not bad.. not bad indeed!
Max OC on Q6600 G0
http://www.overclock3d.net/gfx/artic...115816821l.gif
Ok.. its time to ditch this POS and go EXTREME! ^_^
One thing you have to realised is that origonal test was done with immature bios etc... so could expect slightly weak OC
Ford250
If using 9x400 to get my 3600Mhz
Would be wise to get latest 1101 bios?
What are you running?
Bios 902. I tried 1101 and it would not change the multi for 475x8.
What are your settings at 400fsb?
400fsb needs +30mv northbridge GTL and 450fsb needs +40mv. I still do not know what is safe for this option, I have posted everywhere but nobody responded even after seeing posts of people wanting Asus to put better gtl control for quads.
1101 bios solved the ethernet not working problem after wake up from suspend to ram.
On the other hand, after turning off and then on the PSU power, there is a beep on boot.
In case of overclocking, IDE DVDs make strange sounds each time I save BIOS settings, save and reboot.
There is definitely something wrong with 1101 BIOS.
I dont understand. My board came with bios 601 and is only purchased 5 days ago. Also 790 is a dif chipset and ddr3.
Or are you saying you would have got the 790i if you new it was about to come out?
I got this board so I didnt need new ram. I will not bye two gfx cards againso once the new 9xxx cards come out I will prolly go back to intel and ddr3, I dont think I was robbed as it cloocks good and runs sli.
Hi guys, recently got my board have high hopes for the mobo over my OLD dead eVGA 780i
From previous experience, my Q6600 needs max 1.4V for 3600Mhz so i know that paramiter :yepp:
I want to do 9x400FSB 24/7 Stable
Memory is Corsair 2x2GB Kit rated 1066Mhz 5-5-5-18 @ 2.1V
CPU -1.4V
Memory - 2.1V
What other volts will i need to raise, and to what?.. to get stable?
btw WeStSiDePLaYa, thanks for that memory tweak post you posted before. boosted my Memory bandwidth a 400MBs @ sandra. :D
Been trying to get
8x450
9x400
8x400
Stable to no avail...
NB 1.6-1.7V tried
PPL 1.6-1.7V tried
CPU vcore 1.4-1.5V tried..
GTL +30mv-50mv tried on both
Which Vcore reading should i trust Asus PC-Probe 2 or CPUz??
Tried linked and unlinked ram also.. prime 95 fails after 5-15 mins
Guys, this chip is insanse. Put a 120mm fan over the memory / NB-sink and when adding a NB overheatprotection at 80C, and with a NBv at 1.6, the computer shuts down after just 30 sec or so.. This thing needs to be watercooled.
Been trying to get 9x400 fsb stable, been a nightmare... until i lowered my 2x2GB rams from 1066mhz to 800Mhz Synced...
Getting 4GB working good speed and oced FSB/CPU seems a no go unless you have perhaps insane NB volts!
Shame as i bought a rated 4Gb kit 1066Mhz.
9x400 ... Ram 1:1 (Sync)
CPU Vcore... 1.475 Bios... 1.392 Cpuz
NB Bios - 1.6 .... 1.63 Real
CPU PLL bios 1.6 .... 1.63 Real
GTL +30MV on both
all other voltage settings left auto
Memory 800Mhz 4-4-4-12-22-38 @ 2.1V
This system scores even with new bios etc quite alot lower then same speed clocks on my Old Asus P5E
250 Cpu Marks lower on CPU and 500 lower overall 3dmark06 (15600down to ....15100)
Hi everyone !
First post here :)
been having nightmare myself with this board lol I manage to clocked my E8500 at 3800 stable without touching at the bios. Its not stable a 4000 on auto, but i have try some of the setting some of you guys did, this board will just NOT boot. no matter what i try...
Running 1101 bios
I will try some more setting, but if i try to adjust voltage, it wont go past CPUINIT
Like so many who have purchased this board I have entered into negotiations in overclocking, my spec is the following:
C2Duo E6750 Conroe (FSB 333 X 8 = 2.66GHz)
Artic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro HSF
CORSAIR XMS2 6400 DHX (800MHz)
2x XpertVision 8800GT 512Mb in SLi
320gb Seagate Baracuda SATA
Akasa 1000w Gaming PSU
Antec 900 Gaming Case
Striker II Formula (Shipped 0902 flashed to 1101 Bios)
My knowledge of overclocking I would say is of a novice, and as technology grows and becomes evermore multi dimensional I am able to grasp and understand the concepts for example To acheive a performance quality overclock the main factors are of course speed and power and by increasing these factors we of course generate Overclocker Enemy No.1 "HEAT".
My first attempts with this board resulted in RMA I had a board which was shipped with an 0801 bios, my first overclock was to use the built in CPU level up feature and I chose the E6850 mode which naturally emulated my E6750 to the 3ghz aforementioned chip. I soon realised the board had far more capabilites and reflashed the bios to 1001. Something I then noticed more and more was a message that would flash up on screen when saving bios changes "Dipsrom saving Table do not power off or reset" , plus also during boot up "ErrorMSg" would flash briefly for a split second on the LCD POSTER. Anyway one and half weeks after purchasing the board disaster struck I was saving minor changes in Bios law and behold "Dipsrom saving Table" msg came up on screen and stayed there, the PC hung on this screen and stayed there ... the only thing I could do was to power off completey defying the message on screen ... I had now f**ked the Bios, PC would not boot just hung on CPU init on the POSTER, 24 hours later I had my replacement board this time shipped with 0902 bios, still at odd times I get the "Dipsrom" message and since flashing to the 1101 bios during boot on the LCD POSTER I get "ErrorMSg" flash up.
Currently my system is running at 3.4ghz stable (over 6 hours Orthos + 3hours nonstop 3d mark06)
FSB 425 x 8 CPU voltage 1.45v (Bios)
Ram is overclocked to 1000mhz @ 1.85v
One worrying factor is the PCProbe software If i have it running ....all of a sudden alarms start going off for mem voltages dropping to 0.00v or to the other extreme over 3.00v then they go back to normal?????
Does anyone know of a really good guide to manipulating the BIOS on this board and what are the limitations of overvoltage on the NB & SB without extra cooling?
If I OC to 3.45 ghz with minor Voltage increases upto 1.475 I can get stable for 3 hours on Orthos but then it will crash with Blue screen & reboot.
1.475v is just creating too much heat for my liking on Core temp max 79/80*c
So Iam convinced that the stability issues are possibly more to do with FSB & the chipset. Am i right?
Hi peeps been looking on forums for a while and taking tips off ya for o/c me rig with no joy:down:
Any chance some one can help me out?
Just wanna get 3ghz out of it@

Plz can some one post bios setting i feel like i have tried everything:confused:
cheers
Reached a max of 4.7GHz on air when did lapping of both cpu and TRUE
hyb, here's what I've got so far, with your setup. It seems stable so far. Still tweaking, but maybe you could start with that.
FSB = 1400 (350)
MEM = 867 (434)
@ 9 mult = 3.15GHz
Voltages:
CPU Voltage = 1.425
CPU PLL = 1.6
CPU VTT = 1.38
Mem Voltage = 2.2
NB Core = 1.44
SB Core = 1.60
1.2v HT = 1.2
Bridge = 1.2
CPU GTL_REF Ratio = +30mV
NB GTL_REF Ratio = +10mV
DDRII Contr. Ref = DDR2_REF+10mV
DDRII Chan. A Ref = DDR2_REF+10mV
DDRII Chan. B Ref = DDR2_REF+10mV
Mem timing:
tCL = 5
tRCD = 5
tRP = 5
tRAS = 15
Clock = 2 clock
Everything else = Auto
Loadline Calibration = Disabled
Spread Spectrum (all) = Disabled
Anyone else have any suggestions?
Testing with e6600 and q6600 both need +30mv nb GTL to get to 450fsb, e6600 at 475fsb and will try for 500fsb as it did to 540 on max formula.
Good to know! I'm stress testing now with a slight increase in vcore and NB and 1425 (356 | 3.2ghz) FSB instead. If it crashes, I'll pop up NB REF+30.
Do we have a pretty good idea of the max voltage the NB can have if the heatsink is aircooled? 1.5 too much? I have a fan blowing right on it..
cheers mr Wiinter will give it a try tonight:cool:
Your the man Wiinter 3.1 ghz stable just need setting for 3.6 now:D
