Yes, the board is part of the X48 family and can be discussed here :)
The board layout and features are somewhat different, DQ6 is the high end with DS5 one level down, then DS4 under that.
Printable View
a comparison from the overhead between the DS4 and DQ6
that is all they had at gigabyte's website...the comparison selection process did not show DS5 model for the X48.
EDIT:...CHECKED TAIWAN'S SITE AND THEY HAD IT...COMPARISON AND IMAGE OF DS5:
It's all combined, makes sense to cover all the boards in one thread.
Didn't realise there was such a jump in performance from X38 to X48.. look at the gaming results
X48 is just a speed binned X38 but it's one hell of a speed bin!
http://www.overclockersclub.com/revi...gabyte_x48dq6/
I've tried to modify the pages title Danny...it won't allow me to. But if you look on page one and my first post it has been modified. It just won't allow the "main" title header displayed to be modified.
I'm with you Ace, DDR3 is a whole diff game.
Review of X48T-DQ6 with comparison of X48-DQ6
Can't agree with the conclusion, DD2 version rarely loses a benchmark and often beats the DDR3
http://www.overclockersclub.com/revi...byte_x48t_dq6/
I'm not sure there was any conclusion made except the fact that since the boards use entirely different ram, bios, and therefor setup, that it's a good idea to have seperate info on the X48T. That I can go to a thread specifically created and maintained for a specific board and get the info I need makes things much less tedious. I don't want to wade through piles of DDR2 bios, settings, voltages, reviews when I don't have any interest in the board, win, lose or other. ;)
errr... the X48T smoked it every bench...
You think I bought c6 DDR3 12800 ram to run at anything less than fully clocked?
It got it's ass handed to it in so many gaming benches
DDR2 wins:
Bioshock by 15%
Crysis 10% win
Call of duty 4 10% win
Call of Juarez 15% win
Knights of the sea 10% win
An overclocked X48 would have kicked it's ass too, sorry to say you wasted your money
i looked through the overclockerclub review and i could not find what bios he used on the the X48T....do you know?
secondly, he used "Turbo" setting for the robust graphics booster...when i used that setting, i found a few of the video bench scores had decreased...i found better results leaving it in "Auto"....SO...maybe the reason for some of his lower video bench scores on the X48T is due to that fact.
another area in the bios he eludes to setting a high MCH Skew control figure to a high value...maybe he was just showing the limit but i never went over 250ps...if i did, it would not even boot and that was with a 9650 and E8500...so...a lot of unknowns...it is to bad he did not show the actual settings so we can all compare the two.
the other factor you have not considered is that DDR2 bios settings or tweaking of a DDR2 board was a walkover from the P965X, P975X, P35 and X38 gigabyte boards...DDR3 is just starting to get perfected.
lastly, your percentages that you show above are a little bloated or over dramatized!..ie, crysis bench is clearly won by the X48T in the 1024 x 768 by 8% resolution and tied on the 1280 x 1024 resolution...there is only ONE bench resolution that the X48 pulled ahead and that was in the 1680 x 1050 resolution...the other reolution bench, 1920 x 1200 was a tie...so, the performance differential is not as dramatic as you tend us to believe...again, the "turbo" setting for the robust graphics booster could have something to do with it since i found it to drop my video bench scores.
you did not totally depict the true overall picture of the two boards performance by not pointing out that the other 3 resolution benches were either tied, slightly ahead or slightly behind....it seems that one resolution stands out big for the X48 and the other resoultions are just so close either positive or negative...it might mean the video driver is not tuned properly to integrate with ddr3 timings.
ddr2 still has its advantages but ddr3 will eventually outpace ddr2 as they improve the chipset and bioses.
You're under the mistaken impression I was looking for an answer.
I'm no genius and that's not what my machine is for but please before you make offhand remarks learn a little about people skills? Read here
don't you wish you could extract the comment now that you know?
it is tanatamount of insensitivity; like hillary clinton mentioning about RFK's assassination especially knowing a few days earlier that it was announced that ted kennedy had an inoperable cancerous brain tumor.
Guys, please!...you're all gone way OT. Gigabyte based threads have for awhile now just grouped DDR3 and DDR2 boards together...the bios are not as different as you might think, memory timings are a little different and how the bios behaves, but the DDR3 and DDR2 versions are basically the same and made from the same basic platform/template.
So i don't understand the need to be creating separate threads. Now to get back to things....here is a brand new X48T-DQ6 review:http://www.overclockersclub.com/revi...byte_x48t_dq6/
bios + info,
I would presume that bios releases would occur at the same time for these similar motherboard category ranges?
Can anyone please tell me when they will bring out new bios for these boards?
Hey guys!
First time poster, Be gentle.Been following this link a while now, I'm a noob with this board and never had a Sapphire 3870X2 or any ATI cards before. So I have a few questions
1. Whats the best way to OC the GPU, apps,drivers,etc........
2. in the bios(i have F6) I try to up my FSB, and it ups the mem also? How do I get around this? Or lower the mem speed as I have the G-skill 1066 and think they can't OC well at all. mem timings 5-5-5-15-T2 V2.2
Couple things you should know I came from the failed GA-680SLI-DQ6 Ver2 board, so I'm comfy in the bios. There's just way to much stuff in there, also I'm used to clocking the Nvidia based GPU'S so totally blind on the ATI stuff.

Any help,
Thank You in advance!!!!
Hello all!
I am a noob to this board and in the middle of a new build. I should receive the last few things to get my frag box together from the brown truck today. I can't wait to get her all put together. I hope I can get some help from everyone getting her overclocked.
You can check my specs in my sig.
Thanks!!!
first you can OC the driver...i say that with nvidia in mind and i expect ATI would allow the same with their driver.
next, OC the GPU itself but more heat will be produced...you might need higher PCIe voltage to support that overclocking of the GPU
last way to OC the video card is increasing your PCIe bus speed....i wouldn't go to high here...i would try up to about 108 or 109 mhz...doing this means you overclock the entire PCIe bus and everything that lives off that bus.
definitely drop your memory divider...it is very simple way to keep from overclocking your memory beyond specs.Quote:

if you are talking about the X48 bios then you haven't seen a DFI X38/X48 bios to compare that against...DFI's bios will burn all your circuit breakers up in your brain:rofl:Quote:

Finally got the setting down or getting them learned I should say.... Never knew there was so many OC options for the GPU in this board, I got into 3.8 with 475 FSB the CIA2 setting was stopping me from booting over 3.400.
tried to boot into 500FSB but no love yet, want to max out this E6750 as I can then move on to my Q6600 chip.
So ran 3Dmark06 got16,842 so far in XP32bit any help taking this chip further up would be greatly appreciated!!
When I drop them I have the choices of like 2.00A 2.66A, but it then repeats but with a D or C after the numbers. Never seen it setup like this before, way to high of a learning curve here:rolleyes:.Quote:

Again thanks for the help!!
here is an excellent chart to describe memory dividers...this should help...chart is compliments of SUPERSHANKS
Thanks Ace!
OK booting into 3.8 @ FSB/475 need help with the settings to go higher here(4.00). I.E. stuff to turn off, any specific stuff.
Settings I've tried have not worked have the mem +.25 just before the red/ CPUv 1.475 /(G)MCH .100 /FSB .20 /PCI-E.20 /CPU and MCH scew con normal.
I'm just missing something obvious to others, but not me....... Again Thanks :)
a Q6600 is difficult to get to 4.0 ghz and also be P95 stable...the highest i could get my Q6600 was to about 3.980 Ghz...BUT...that was NOT P95 stable.
Anybody is using 4x2gb ram @1080 or higher freq on this board?
Ok guys have my system built and am not having any luck getting it overclocked. It is actually saying it is running at 1.60ghz on the Q6600. I hate to be a pain in the ass but I need to know step by step process getting her overclocked. It is my first build from the ground up and need help with the rest.
I want to get her to 3.00ghz and leave it that way for awhile. I have seen that is not to hard to archive and have a cooler just need some help from you guys.
Please Please!!!
Thanks in advance
Thanks for everyones help.
Figured it out.
Yeah well, if you're given all the answers how will you learn?
getting snooty doesn't help your cause.
if you go here Supershanks has an excellent guide in overclocking the X48T model (DDR3) which will be very close in voltage settings except for the memory timings:
I have a GA-X48_DQ6 for almost a week and im happy with it.
For setup see sig.
Settings:
8.5*500 = 4.250 mhz
Vcore 1.4125 in bios
Vdimm 2.15v
Vmch 1.85v
Vfsb 1.20v
DDR1000 @ 5-5-5-15
Attachment 79841
The E8500 with batch Q813A380 is a nice one ! The only thing i miss with this mobo is voltage readings and OS based overclocking control of the vfsb and vmch. Very stable and very good built quality.
Here is c/p of my issues with X48-DS5 mentioned in other post:
Configuration:
- Gigabyte x48-ds5
- q6600 which works on p35-ds4 at stock voltage on 333x9
- tru 120 extreme
- 2x2gb ballistix 800mhz 4-4-4-12 2.1v
- 2x 3870x22
- pc power and cooling 750w
- vista x64
- EIST, C1E, no execute memory, TM2 disabled
Situation:
- prime95 on stock settings works fine
- 333x9 crashes in prime95 almost instant making restart, or crashes after 10 minutes if i set memory to 5-5-5-15 800mhz
- tried Kingmax 2x2gb, no help from them
Tried:
- Memory at 2.3v
- mch and fsb +0.1v
- loadline calibration settings
- cpu at 1.3v (more is not needed, set top of the post)
Thanks for any help.
Found a problem.
Removed second 3870x2, now it passes regularly. Who to blame here? PSU or Gigabyte? I'll chose Gigabyte because 750w is more than enough.
I wouldn't be too sure about that, 2 of the 3870x2's would take an aweful lot of power to run. I would personally lean toward psu before mobo. Is there any way you could get ahold of a bigger psu, just for a day even, to test it out?
Edit - I looked at a review of the 3870x2 at Anandtech and a single one uses 290 watts, under load.
On my system (see signature below) I recorded 1010W power draw on the power supply with a Kill-A-Watt during heavy 3dMark06 tests like the clouds test. So I would say no, 750W is not enough, and I have a Thermaltake 1000W sitting waiting to be installed when I have a minute (I'm going to put in a fixed drain plug too!)
Upgrade your power supply and my guess is it'll stabilize.
I am having trouble with the SMbus on the GA-X48T-DQ6. BIOS F5D, symptoms are:
1. Running cpuid.com HWMonitor 1.09 occasionally only shows the machine name and no data. Running it again almost always fixes it.
2. Running Everest 4.50.1330 while connected to the machine on Remote Desktop, with the OSD enabled for every 5 seconds, will eventually lock the machine up.
Anybody else experience SMbus related issues?
Wow. that's huge .Quote:
I recorded 1010W power draw on the power supply
Wall socket was pulling 1010W just the power supply. Figure 83% efficiency, that means it was providing about 840W of power to the computer. This power supply from PC Power and Cooling is supposed to be able to burst up past 800W for short periods from what I have read. Trust me it made a whining noise I did not like at all but it survived about 5 benchmark runs. I'm going to replace it soon though and got a dedicated APC 1500VA UPS as well just for the computer. Anybody have any comments on my SMbus issue?
Again, Thank you Ace:up:
Thats about where I got it too, so I'm happy for now till I get a better CPU. I have a Q9300 but it seems to be a big dog? Any help/suggestion on it besides throwing it out the window? It would not clock up past 3.5 if I recall correctly, again if anybody has any suggestions on this CPU feel free to jump right in:welcome:.
Also another question, having trouble with clocking both GPU'S in rivatuner. It shows the second one under clocking and when I try to adjust the setting for it in the drop down, after testing them it goes right back to defaults(witch shows as under clocked from the primary GPU)? So I know I'm missing something there, maybe not enough voltage? Gonna get a bigger better PSU after my next pay period. Maybe a tweak in RIVA I'm missing here?

Are you OK inside the BIOS, changing settings?
I would suggest upping the FSB multi then adjust the mem multi to keep it close to stock (at first) then do this in small increments till it will not boot then start adding voltage to the CPU first then, the PCIE, ONLY ADJUST one thing at a time to see the results of the adjustment.
MY 3.6 over clock settings/FSB OVC+0.20/FSB OVC+0.10/(G)MCH OVC+0.150/
CPU voltage 1.462/line load cali. on/MEM you will need to mess with your self to find the voltages that are good. As each is different...........
Always watch your temps when upping the CPU voltage!!! Any voltage for that matter (use Everest Ultimate@majorgeeks.com)
Post back let me know what you find............
Any questions ask first if you don't know!!!
MagnumMan: what are you using to measure the actual wattage pull from the wall outlet?

Again, Thank you to all that posted to this link
Please, read it carefully. :) It was the total system power which means that probably even good 550w PSU could handle one more card.
I found a solution. Disabled loadline calibration and released strap to 2.50A(833mhz ram). However, I still encoutered random freezes in normal usage(not benchmarking) so I had returned to XP x64 and decided to wait because it doesn't freeze on it.
What is the newest bios for the x48t-dq6? I know F4 is the bios but what are the beta bios out, I have F5a but this morning when I started my computer it restarted 3 times before it shut down and I had to clear cmos to get it to go into setup, so i could go onto vista. It been running good for 3 months. (no OCing)
Get F5d it is the best one I found. Stable on a QX9700 air cooled with a Scythe Mugen (massive cooler) at 3.8GHz, didn't have time to find a way to push it higher, was happy with DDR3-1600 and 3.8GHz on the CPU.
See the machine in my signature. In terms of voltage, at full bore this one draws over 1kW from the wall. I have a Silverstone OP1200 in my machine because the Thermaltake Toughpower 1000W was shutting down! Don't underestimate how much you power you'll need.
Hello guys, how are you doing?
I hope you can help me.
I'm running the X48-DQ6 with a E7200 and 2x1GB GSkill DDR2-1066.
Settings:
7x500
RAM 2.4B = DDR2-1200 5-5-5-15

vFSB +0.2v
vMCH +0.25v
vCore 1.30v
http://img295.imageshack.us/img295/3...0pl7hs3.th.gif
I can run a full 1024k self test of Prime Blend (10 iterations), but the system will hang/crash short after I start any 3d application.
Note the +0.2v on the PCIe, without it the system will reboot short after the start of the Prime in Blend mode.
Any ideas on how to get the system 3d stable ?

Has Gigabyte completely forgot about the X48 DS4? They have bios updated for the P45 chipsets already, but still not a single one for the DS4 yet, not even a beta! What gives???
F2a Beta
Not sure what changed but I've been using for a week without problems.
Awesome, I'll give it a try. Is that a good place to look for beta's? Usually I hit station drivers, but nothing has shown up there as of yet.
Well, this is originally from station drivers, but impossible to find on their site....
EDIT - Heres the direct link X48-DS4 Station Drivers
I just wanted to see what you guys are running in your settings for your bios. If you have a minute I would like to compare.
Thanks in advance!
HI all
Just setup my Gigabyte Ga-X48-DS5 motherboard with Q9450. I wanted to run 2 drives in Raid so installed XP with the included raid drivers for IH9R chipset. Initially appeared to run fine however on closer inspection I noted that the MX Revolution mouse was stuttering way to often on simple actions like opening up file manager and accessing the DVD drive. I ran DPC (latency check program ~ BTW if you have Kapersky antivirus it will not allow the file to run) and I was getting massive spikes into the red. Tried disabling the sound card, network adapters etc and it made not an ounce of difference. After a bit of research on the web I noted that someone had a similar issues (not with a Gigabyte board) and the solution was to change back to running IDE emulation on SATA (NOT AHCI or RAID). Tried that and also disable the accessory (non-intel) sata ports and now the PC runs smooth as silk. Not a single stutter. And DPC show all green.
I did try the new Intel Matrix Drivers and I had the latest Gigabyte bios and nothing made a difference until the RAID was disabled.
Got a new bios from Gigabyte (as a response from tech support) - F6D and it seems to have settled the latency issues right down. As noted before there were major stutter with RAID enabled, but even without latency was not quite low enough (up to 1000us sometimes).
Now with the F6D bios the latency is between 10 and 50us. Just an observation though. The CPUID (cpuz) software increases latency by a factor of 2-4 times ?? why. Also, my wireless card (DWA547) shoots up latency to > 30,000us every minutes or so especially when its checking/adjusting signal. Turn the card of and latency remains low low low < 30us.
Just heads up :)
Hey Doompc,
Plus .55 on the DDR? Seems high to me, I have the same MEM DDR2 G-skill 1066 but four sticks. I never volt them that high but do see your over clocking them also, I usually use +.35 or +.40 at the most. But I've not over clocked them on this board yet. If this helps you then cool if not then disregard.....

Give me a few days to look up my info on this if you will?
I installed a baby Q9300, the F7b bios did not recognize it. And in the device manager it showed it as unknown item? Under the CPU it showed nothing, very weird. Not sure if there is a patch or what for it? Also in my bios now, it only show dual bios not quad bios? Any help there is always greatly appreciated!!!
Happy Fourth Of July All !
Just got another bios from Gigatech :) for the X48-DS5 - F6G. Havn't tried it yet.
Will upload both bioses shortly for all to try.
The specs of my system
Q9450 at 3.6Gz
GA-X48-DS5
Corsair Dominator DDR2 1066 4Gb (2x2gb) RAM
Gigabyte 9800GTX (3Dmark 16200, Advantage 8200)
Pioneer S202 DVD burner/BlueRay Reader
Acer AL2616 and Viewsonic VX2640W 26" inchers
Asus Xonar Sound card
G15 Keyboard
MX Revolution Mouse
Returned the DWA547 and got a Linksys Wireless-N card. So, so much better now.
The things that have have a negative impact on Latency (as per DPC Latency program)
- Networking. Both the wireless cards and to a lesser extent the motherboard LANs increase latency when used (the wireless card seems to spike once in a while when checking reception)
- Onboard sound card - Had spikes everytime the onboard sound activated. Now with the Xonar it increases very very slightly but No spikes.
- CPUZ program. Constant overall increase in latency - Can't explain.
Shortly the bios links....
Greetings all,
After careful and diligent research I bought the X48-DS4 for the features I need and for the features I don't. After reading this entire thread and other reviews, I think I made a good choice.
That being said, I've seen BIOS updates for the X48-DQ6 and X48-DS5. Can anyone explain (or your best educated guess) why Gigabyte has not, or is not supporting an official BIOS UPDATE for the DS4? Their first and only release BIOS is still F1 2008/03/21.
Currently using F2a beta.
Thanks.
Thanks for the reply, jaggerwild.
I'm running the GSkill PK @ 1200, +0.55v will do 1.35v, it's cold here and there is good airflow over them. They run @ 1066 with just +0.30 ;)
I lowered to 490 to get the systems 3D stable.
But I want the "magical 500"...
Can you post up your timing for me then? Not sure if I have the PK's gonna check, BRB.
WOW, got the same ones????? OK if you would be so kind sir ?
OK Knight after inputting all the settings for you, I have slow INTERNET. They disappeared FTW, so is there a particular CPU speed your looking for here? As I do not adjust everything all the time on this, like advanced timings on the mem. I never touch them least not yet, Skews I'll touch after getting stability(usually only +100 on second and third setting down, never touched the first one yet).Quote:
Will do just want to compare.

So if you could give me a speed here that your looking for, as it would make it much easier on me, instead of filling in all them settings witch I do not record only the ones I'm changing on the OC.
Thanks man!
Thats cool thanks anyway I have mine running at 3.6 now with rock solid stability. I have learned allot from trial and error. What I love about this board when I start it up I have 3 settings in bios at 3.0,3.20 and 3.6 and I can choose what speed I need for what I will be doing. I have allot of late nights and hours playing with the settings and have loved every minute of it.
