UH-OH! I just flashed my DS3 with the F4e and now it won't boot...WTF?!?!?!? I loaded optimized defaults in BIOS, rebooted, flashed with @BIOS (checking clear DMI and the other thing) it said flashed successfully, rebooted and BAM power cycles the PSU over and over again. I tried clearing CMOS and everything.

The only thing I can think of is if it reverted back to 1.8VDIMM default like the F1 BIOS had. I could boot my OCZ 2.1V stuff on F3 and F4c...not F1 and NOT this crappy new BIOS. I DON'T have a cheapo stick laying around either!

Dang, I'm screwed! If I lost my RAID array, I'm gonna be pissed - last backup was Friday.

I'll pick up some cheapo RAM tomorrow...AGAIN...and hopefully get this thing to boot. :(

Don't waste your money on the RAM. I just did the same thing with the same results. I'm using Corsair 6400C4 and it can boot at 1.8...the supposed BIOS update was screwed and now so is my mobo. Do not use that DS3 BIOS.

I actually think I might be able to go to 825 or 850. It booted into windows at 850 but I didn't stress test it since I'm still working on getting the cpu up there.

AWESOME, AWESOME memory, considering I paid $109 after rebate for two gigs from newegg.

i've mentioned all of them are beta BIOS and use them at own risks, I don't have every of the boards so I can't test all of them, really sorry for that....:(

Could you be more specific? It means for one thing that we're flashing BIOS that cause the motherboard to die. It means that if I ask Gigabyte about anything (problems with sound and AHCI drivers), their tech support website rejects the question with a database error. I guess this is one situation where the Quad BIOS of the DQ6 would be useful. I would hope Gigabyte tested this BIOS under optimized defaults. I guess Gigabyte can't own every memory module that is manufactured. What is your brand/model of DIMM that you suspect? Are there some that Gigabyte officially approves?

This is not a RAM issue! I got 2 different cheapo sticks of RAM to try out in the board INSTEAD of my OCZ stuff. It did not boot into CMOS with either of them, where on F1, it would. Same stick I used to get things working in the beginning.

REPEAT: This is not just a VDIMM/RAM compatibility issue. The board is GONE...TOAST.

in another forum the boards still work after flashing, however it turns to DQ6 and the GeForce 7 series compatibility issue has fixed.

so I would say this BIOS won't TOAST the board, but better put on hold at this moment.

Well, I'm still confused about what you are talking, but I apologize for taking it personally and over-reacting. I want to be over-clocking, not over-reacting. Maybe you are saying you disagree with that entire Official Core 2 Duo Overclocking Thread. There is even some chance we would agree, for me, I disagree with post-XP OC then running super-pi as the goal of OC. I'd like the to just set up the OC once, to not have to change my OC after XP boots, and I'd suggest a more thorough benchmark than super-pi. People seem to feel that the motherboard should automatically compensate for pre- and post- OS timings. Maybe this problem is unavoidable and is the reason Gigabyte came up with C.I.A. (and EasyTune).

it solved the GeForce 7 compatibilty issue (which made them couldn't oc) and thus they oc more

To anyone with the DQ6, how are you booting at above +0.25vmch? I'm using the F3e bios and whenever I boot at +0.3vmch or above it will boot but won't show any video. I've seen others booting with up to +0.35vmch, but I just can't get it work.

I know that everyones pc in overclocking isnt the same, but trying to make a joke out of it... I just cant see it being a joke tbh. I'd be frustrated if i couldnt overclock properley, and a joke for me wouldnt actually help would it?

You're right, everyone's hardware is unique. I'm not asking to copy exactly someone's bios settings, I'm just asking for some tips as I've tried everything I can think of to get it to boot at higher vmch. :)

Edit: Fixed it, card needs to be in slot 2.

kenofstephen, please remove the F4E bios for the DS3 from this thread before anymore damage is done, I just performed a hex compare using Hex Workshop on 965pdq6.f3g and 965pds3.f4e and the 2 bios files are identical.

The latest beta DS3 (F4E) bios is the latest DQ6 beta (F3G).

DS3 owners do not use that bios.

Can someone please post the links you all are using to get these newer beta BIOS, (ie DQ6's F3G and F4) I checked the links on the first page of this thread and couldn't find them.

BTW, i'm getting my DQ6 today (after a bad P5W) and want to know what you all recommend I flash to for some stable initial bios, right now I have those F3E ones downloaded, but what are your thoughts?

I suggest posting checksums along with the BIOS files. This would detect duplicate BIOS like just happened. And also help people ensure they got a proper download. Ideally these checksums would originate at Gigabyte and be passed all the way down the chain. Also, is there a particular hex offset into the file that holds the string that ID's the motherboard?

I found "965pds3.BIN" at hex offset 0x00090016 in the F4C bios, thats the only string that I could find that made some sense, I haven't checked other bios versions to see if it is the same offset as yet.

Truly identifying that it is the correct bios is not simple with a hex editor since it appears to me that the bios is a compressed image, maybe someone with more programming experience will know what to look for.

"DMA mode is fully working" to check this : Go to device manager from system. Under IDE ATA/Atapi controller, right click on primary ide channel (maybe multiple) for properties. Should be under advanced settings tab =>transfer mode.

Lestat ""the F3 bios would reset the bios and let you boot into the bios if you overclocked too far. the F4 bios isnt letting you do that. you have to reset the bios. i dont care for that but hey they are making progress and its a beta so..."

This morning I got "another" F4e BIOS, which they said is "the same as" what I've received yesterday, of course I don't believe it though...

Thanks kenofstephen, good work. I checked the bios with a hex editor and it appeared to be for the DS3, so I flashed it and I am running it now. :D

And best of all, I can enable CPU Host Frequency even at 266mhz without it rebooting with the option disabled, now its time for me to test out the overclocking potential.

Also noticed CPU-Z reports CAS Latency is set to 5 instead of 3 which its never show for me before. :banana:

that's why I use a DVD to boot into DOS mode and then flash the BIOS using the files from HDD.

too complicated, my method is:

1. use the CD/DVD to boot;
2. change the partition to D:\; ( usually I place the utility & BIOS to D:\ directly)
3. type FLASH895.exe;
4. key-in the file name for the BIOS inside the utility;

what is your oc now than ? I think when the f4 bios is realy finished for the ds3 it will do 9 x 450 = 4000+ mhz out of the box, just like a pw5. Well the asus is like 100 $ more expensive so you just want the $$ back i gues :p:

I wanna know if the 965P will handle the 4MB cache procs as well as the 975X...and only BIOS updates will tell us. If you guys with retail chips can hit higher OC's tonight and tomorrow with F4e, I'll refuse shipment on the P5W and get my broken DS3 fixed.

C'mon guys! You OWE me this one! Haha! :D

I wanna know if the 965P will handle the 4MB cache procs as well as the 975X...and only BIOS updates will tell us. If you guys with retail chips can hit higher OC's tonight and tomorrow with F4e, I'll refuse shipment on the P5W and get my broken DS3 fixed.

Using CD's is an excellent idea.

With newer Nero you can also just select File... New, and in the New Compilation dialog select CD-ROM(Boot) which will use that image. Then add your flash utility and BIOS file.

new F4e BIOS is awesome. Couldn't get the 1:1 mem ratio working properly on my current DS3 before, now goes to 515 fsb :) Not sure if mem or motherboard limited now. Can only cold boot up to around 450 fsb, (so e6400 is better choice over e6300).

Also seems to have fixed some of the videocard incompatibility issues (I can plug in my DVI LCD now)

WOW Thrawn. Out of interest what cooling are you using for CPU and Northbridge, atm I'm just using stock cooling and temps aren't the greatest?

Stock MCH, FSB voltage. No extra northbridge cooling. Big Typhoon for CPU (not that it matters for FSB testing at 6x multplier).

There is a lot of variation between the different board temp sensors, so don't expect any real accuracy (my 1st and 2nd DS3 has 15c temp difference on the same CPU/Cooler). The stock cooler isn't much good, noisy and around 10c hotter than Big Typhoon. I'd say for stock cooler, I wouldn't up the vcore from default at all. For something like Big Typhoon, maybe up to .125v etra should be okay for daily usage.

I just flashed F4E on my DS3. No difference in overclocking ability for me. Here are my details:

E6600 week 24 on a DS3. 366 FSB (3.3 GHz), dual prime stable. Ninja+ air cooling, 58C tempwhile priming (coretemp reports 68C). 1.4875 cpu volts in bios, all other bios settings set to auto. kenofstephen, any new beta BIOS for ds4? the f3d that you posted earlier work on ds4 but it changes my model number to dq6. it did, as you mentioned, solve the compatibility problem for geforce 7 series card (i can use dvi already) but i was wondering is there anymore latest beta BIOS for ds4? thanks

ive got a leadtek 7800GTX on a DS4 with F3 Bios.
Just resets itself every time i change anything, this is with 2.1V on Vdimm and Team Xtreem 6400 kit :(

The F4e actually stopped my DS3 from running at CL3!

I can now use FSB400 with 1:1 Memory, which is enough for now.

Inaccepteable however is that I still have to reset the bios each time I restat my computer if I ovverclocked, no matter how stable it is. I hope the final F4 will change that.

Well after alot of playing round with the new DS3 beta F3E bios I have just about run out of patience, while it does overclock for me now I got a FSB wall at about 370mhz and no amount of bios tweaking will get me past it. :mad:

Off to a friends place tomorrow to try my E6400, mem and video in an Asus P5B Deluxe, if things go well this DS3 may very well end up on Ebay, thanks to Gigabyte for the worst new motherboard experience I've had in the last 10+ years of building PCs.

try the same CPU on another board to see which causes the "wall", possibly it's your CPU instead of the board, coz there are so many 5xx FSB cases overhere....if YES, I'd recommend you to sell your CPU and go for the next one instead dude.

I dont want my mobo to become dq6 from ds4 to solve the cas problem! I flash only with qflash and f3d gives me error. I want a bios for ds4. :)
