So I just read the last few posts and it sounds like with a new bios the DS series will be able to break the D9 curse? Is this correct or should I read back a few posts? I'm tired of being stuck in the middle 470's..
This is excellent news for all DS users! Any news on the DQ6?Quote:

Can you please list the drives you are using and which board? I do not have any issues with the Seagate 7200.10 series but have not tried the Raptors or Hitachi drives yet. The JMicron controller firmware is one step down currently and we have asked Gigabyte to update it on all three boards.Quote:

Here's what I believe is the best that I'll get using the F8i BIOS.
Attachment 53177
Using these settings Orthos passed 12hrs.
CPU Clock Ratio:.................... 8x
CPU Host Clock Control:.......... Enabled
CPU Host Frequency (Mhz):..... 406
PCI Express Frequency (Mhz):. Auto
System Memory Multiplier:...... 2.00
Memory Frequency (Mhz):....... 812
DRAM Timing Selectable:........ Manual
CAS Latency Time:................. 5
DRAM RAS# to CAS# Delay:... 5
DRAM RAS# Precharge:.......... 5
Precharge delay (rRAS):......... 18
System Voltage Control:......... Manual
DIMM OverVoltage Control:..... +0.4V
PCI-E OverVoltage Control:..... Normal
(G)MCH OverVoltage Control:.. +0.2V
FSB OverVoltage Control:....... +0.2V
CPU Voltage Control:.............. 1.4750
When I tried 420x8 Orthos failed. I couldn't Boot with any FSB above 420. My previous 406x8 using 4-4-4-12 passed orthos for 30 min but failed at 46 min. When I raised the timing to 5-5-5-18 Orthos was still running after 12 hours.
I believe that I have a memory problem. I tried 266x8 3.00 (ddr 800) and this booted with orthos for 30 min. I tried 266x8 3.33 (ddr 885), 256x8 3.33 (ddr 852) and they wouldn't boot. I then tried 280x8 3.00 (ddr 840) and 420x8 2.00 (ddr 840) and they booted.
Waiting for the next BIOS.
I hearby apologize for my mistreatment of Bingo. I was wrong in my assumptions about him and want everyone to know he is the real deal. I should not have lept to conclusions and I very sorry.
Please keep the I told you so's to a minimum. Thankyou!

There is a new beta for the DQ6. I do not think it is ready for public release yet but if it comes close after testing this week then we will try and get it released. We are trying to get any public betas in a "good enough" state so that it will not cripple your system. ;)Quote:

I don't have the dual bios but I once had my DS3 go into a continuing restart with a message on the screen that it was looking for bios on the hard drive and trying to recover. It must have restarted over a dozen times before it eventually found the bios, loaded it and started with the bios that came with this board. I really felt lucky after that experience.:DQuote:

still having problems with usb connected devices and overclocking @ DS4 w BIOS F7b. would be very much appreciated if these are corrected in the final F7 release (along with some OC instabillity issues!) cheers ! :) Also X-FI is fixed, plz gigabyte dont mess with that :)
Im using the ds4(f6 bios) with 2x74gb 16mb cache raptors in raid0. 320gb seagte perp drive and a dvd drive and an ide drive.
I personally always use the latest drivers, and WHQL drivers. When i look in Device Manager i like to see drivers with a modern driver date. New drivers add things and fix things, sometimes they break things...the only way is to test and try.Quote:

Please note i was given this beta in confidence with the understanding i would not make it available publically or privately, as such please do not email or PM asking for said bios, it was given in good faith so as end users to bug hunt etc.
I have however been given the green light to discuss the bios and show screen shots/discuss new features etc. F8b...there are quite a few new items added, most important to me is the fact that the JMicron bios ROM has been updated to version 1.06.59 (DQ6 previously had 1.06.53), the copyright date for this bios has also changed to 2006-2007. Guess they are thinking ahead, as someone else reported with the beta F8i for the DS3, the DQ6 now also has new options in bios for HPET support (Enable/Disable + 32bit/64bit).
With HPET enabled in bios a new item was added to Device Manager, "Intel(R) ICH8 Family PCI Express Root Port 6 - XXXX", disable said option it disappears. M.I.T. has been refreshed, under the section for memory timings it now displays "SPD" data, it shows the default SPD data as reported by the memory, in my case 4-4-4-12 etc. You can still manually alter the memory timings, it's a nice addition...other then this i have not seen any major changes or additions, nor have i tried to alter my bios settings or overclock from my previous settings. I'll be testing as i go along, the one thing that i wanted to see was the Intel AHCI and SATA RAID bios ROM's being updated...they have not. God willing by the time official F8 comes this will happen.
Based on my experience to date this bios is far from finished and not for public release, i've had major issues with overclocking and increasing the FSB from normal 266 to my usual 425FSB. Basically the overclock won't take, if i shut down the PC and power up once again the PC hangs, sits there doing nothing and monitor goes black and won't POST. Only way is to push the reset button, it does POST but upon entering bios the CPU Host Clock Control is set to "Disabled", increasing (G)MCH and FSB voltages does not help. I guess this is to be expected with such an early beta, on default settings it works fine. When i have more observations or future betas become available i'll report back.
I have DS3 and flash to F8i bios and the issue with Team Xtreem Micron D9 is not resolved, I can't pass 450fsb , dont boot...= with F7 bios....
Other problem with board is CpuZ show board bios is F3 date 11/14/2006
and everest show F8i bios date 11/14/2006, cpuz is 1.37, what is the problem??
Thanks

Using Q-Flash you'll see an option to "Clear DMI Data", just reflash and CPU-Z will show the right bios file.

My E6300 is Conroe or Allendale?!!

Richard : use ACDsee to corp images
Somebodynew : Great!
Again any newer BIOS over F7b for DS4?
Basically a conroe with 2mb cache disable... intel found out that some cpu have a bad 2mb cache and so they disable it. that's how ur allendale was born :PQuote:

"All Conroe processors have 4 MB L2 cache; however, the E6300 and E6400 versions have half of their cache disabled, hence they only have 2 MB of usable L2 cache.
The lower end E6300 (1.86 GHz) and E6400 (2.13 GHz), both with a 1066 MT/s FSB, were released on July 27, 2006. Traditionally, CPUs of the same family with less cache simply have the unavailable cache disabled, since this allows parts that fail quality control to be sold at a lower rating." from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Core_2
Wolfdale, dual-core, 45 nm shrink of Allendale, with 3 MiB L2 coming next? btw anyone here have a xeon 3060 yet? does it run on the ds4 board?
btw from that screenshot your conroe is on multiplier is on 6x instead of 7x default if you care.
As HamidFull stated, almost all the I.D. utils were incorrect in their naming of the E6300 and E6400. As you can see in this document even Intel named it Conroe. So they have corrected the "problem" now.
And they aren't broken 4MB cache chips, the cache is delibirately (spelling?) disabled while there's nothing wrong with it. Just marketing purposes, if the E6400 can be overclocked as high as the E6600 there would be no advantage over the E6400 anymore for the E6600. And this way the bigger price difference gets justified, also if someone would really NEED the 4MB they have to go for at least the E6600. If there were E6300 with 4MB they wouldn't get the extra money Intel wants from you:fact: .
With the new BIOS my board reached his top.
I am 100% amazed!
Before I could not boot above 390 with my E6600 and with could not also boot
with E6400 above 420.
New BIOS: BOOT @ 480 with E6600

First time poster. I could use some help. I am putting together a new computer with the DS3, 6600, and Corsair 6400. I have been following the subject here and elsewhere about the various hassles with the board and the different bios upgrades. Here's my question.
How do you upgrade the bios without going through Windows. I fried a MB/Bios chip several boards back when Windows suddenly died in the middle of installing a new bios. First time this has ever happened and I learned my lesson. So what do I do? I see posts about something called Q-Flash and people who upgrade the bios before installing Windows. What is Q-Flash and where do you get it? How do you connect to the Internet if you don't have an operating system installed? Are you downloading the new bios on another computer to a floppy or CD and then moving it over? Or could you download a new bios onto a flash drive and would your new system read that as a drive to access during startup?
Sorry if these seem like stupid questions but I have always upgraded my bios through Windows and that is now out. I appreciate any answers, especially detailed ones. :) If there is a sticky on this somewhere just give me the link and I will read it. Thanks.
ok this sucks hard, i got my ds4 out yesterday to change plugs put it back and now it doesnt boot , no matter what . inifinite reboot. WTF!!!!!!!!!!!

Schaweet! Although I'm very happy with my DQ6 as I'm holding a steady 3.8 ghz (8x476) 24/7.. Just hope they fix the cold boot issue :DQuote:

The term is also used to refer to the complete assembly with the power strip on one end and a plug on the other.
