Interesting thread guys, nice going! Some help please if possible cause I've been hitting a brick wall for the last couple of days

I had the 0902 bios and now I flashed to 1303

Here are the systems specs

Q6600 Go (1.1625 Vid)
2X2gb Corsair 800 4-4-4-12 at 2.1volts
2X8800gt SLI
1000W PSU

I plan on doing a 24/7 overclock on this machine since it will be used for heavy video editing and gaming (SLI)

With the 0902 bios the quad would not even post at 400X8=3200

Does anyone in here have any experience with this board and a Q6600 G0 and 2X2gb of RAM? If synched and linked gives better results I plan on 400X8 on the cpu and the memory at the default 800 4-4-4-12

Also what are good 24/7 settings for the voltages in the BIOS. I read that "Auto" is a bit weird

Any help and/or recommendations guys?

For a start the vid you mention is wrong, not that it particularly matters, but if you read the Q6600 overclocking thread you would have seen that the Vids only start at 1.200 and go up, the reading you are getting is because you have not turned off C1E or intel speed step, which most people turn off straight away.

The board wont have any problems running the Quad, it's just that the board seems to introduce this massive latency and drop in bandwidth if you are using a quad. If you don't mind all of these problems then keep reading..... If it already sounds to hard, send it back and get something else while you still can.

You will need a fairly high NB voltage, and most likely you may need to pull off the heat pipe cooler and re-seat it with another paste other than what Asus supply. This will help with stability, and maybe extend the life of your mosfets (mine popped and I didn't re-seat)

I dare to say as you want 400 FSB you will be running at 3.6ghz which is fine, you will probably need at least 1.5v NB or higher, especially with 4GB of ram.

Manually set VTT to 1.38v or lower if you can (I used 1.36v-1.38v) because yes, at auto this will sometimes go rediculessly high.

As for PLL I had mine high, managing to get it stable with 1.66v, while some people say its too high, and should just raise the GTL refs (CPU and NB) to +30m, which I also did with no worries. SB volts I set to lowest, though with SLI you may need to raise this.

Hope there is something useful in that.

With Q6700, 4GB of RAM and 1303 BIOS (at least), when I set an FSB over 1200 and then under 1200, I have no way to overclock anymore, unless I load a saved profile made with the same BIOS or shutdown and clear CMOS.
Anyone else with the same problem or is it just me?

Yer it's a power saving option, so it gives a lower Vid. turn off speed step also if you have the option (cant remember and I don't have the board to have a look)

Does this board "feel" any better with one of the 45nm C2d? An 8200 for example? Is 500fsb with one of those 8200's easy to obtain or not? Just curious ...

Btw, The0men you said you need high voltage on NB, and you said 1.5v, But I have been able to overclock my Q6850 to 3.7ghz with the NB voltage set at 1.4v with no problems at all and I always keep the VTT at 1.4v, and overclocking my ram with just 1.4v on the NB as never been a problem for me aswell. End of the day, you need to find what makes your system stable but always start with a low voltage and work your way up untill its stable Daytime Dreamer. And another thing, this board seems to love overclocking those dualcores with not much problems, your cooling would probably give up before these board will.

This is what I'm doing now. One at a time, I reduced every voltage until the system was unstable. Now I'm raising them, one setting and one notch at a time till there's a change in stability. Bit by bit I'm finding out what was overvolted, and should know soon what was undervolted.

What I'm wondering right now is if anyone has played around with loadline calibration or GTL ref?

Loadline Calibration should be off, according to many posts I've read. I have tried it on, and it seems to be less stable.

REF voltages other than RAM:
Under 350 FSB Auto
Over 350FSB +10
Over 400FSB +20
Over 450SB +30

I also run the ram controller the same as these, ie 450 FSB REF +30

I always have Loadline Calibration on because its meant to stop vdroop and that helps with overclocking the CPU and the only REF voltages I have change are the GTL ref for the CPU and NB, I put the CPU one on 40+ and NB one on 20+

Well I just set +30 on all (CPU/NB/DDRII Controller), except DDRII Chanel A/B which I left on auto.

Oh, sry Nits, set the DDRII Chan A/B to REF, if you have the ram set to higher than 800.

Of coarse you are correct in that all boards differ, mine needed high voltage.

But also you have a higher multi than us being locked at 9, so for 3.7ghz you could
have had a much lower FSB, which would also mean that you could use lower
NBv. Not saying you did, but maybe because I don't know what your settings are.

Certainly would not bother booting this board at stock NBv, would start at 1.4v and go up.

Never bothered raising the DDR ref.

But yer try starting at 1.4, I think you may need higher, and certainly look into re-seating that heat-pipe cooler, seems to be the way to go, with loads of active cooling.

Managed to pull out something guys

I am at 350X9 = 3150 which seems totally stable. RAM is running at 933MHZ 5-5-5-15

All volts are raised 2 or 3 steps up, I'll post screens later

I did try to run 360X9 = 3240 but when I tried to check my bandwidth through Everest, when it got to check L1 and L2 of the cpu it bluescreened. Maybe more cpu volts? CPU VTT maybe? If anybody knows please let me know

Would my memory pass memtest86+ if the REFs were out?

I tried a few settings now, but they don't seem to help, so I'm just running memtest with all REF settings on auto, and it seems to be passing...

Just trying with SLI memory set @ EXPERT.

I just keep hitting a "wall" @ 2 3/4 hrs prime. Whatever setting I have tried so far won't let me get passed it. If the sli ready memory setting doesn't help, I'll try raising and lowering each setting by a notch again in case I missed something.

I think I can rule out the memory holding me back since it passed a full round of memtest without error. Does that mean I can take NB core and Vdimm out of the equation?

trying putting GTL ref CPU on 30+ and put VTT on 1.4v also put Loadline Calibration on and see if that helps ya :)

I don't think it matters if they are the same or not, atm I have the ref CPU on +50 and ref NB +20 I havent touched the DDRII REF, never had the need to.

Interesting. I'm just trying +40 on NB/CPU. If that doesn't help, I'll try a bit more VVT and loadline calibration, although I'm not sure that more VTT will help much since increasing it before decreased my stability, but then so did Vcore at one point, so I'm not sure what's going on here :shrug: I'll give anything a try at this stage though :p:
